After 1947 till 2014, for most of the time India was ruled by the Gandhi family directly or indirectly, so defense equipment was imported from abroad. Because the Gandhi family used to get commission on importing defense equipment from abroad. And if these equipment were to be manufactured in India, then the commission received by the Gandhi family on the purchase of defense equipment would have stopped. That's why the Gandhi family did not do any work on the process of manufacturing defense equipment in India.

Just a correction on Arjun Tank. Arjun uses a rifled Gun not a Smoothbore Gun. It design is similar to a German Leopard 2 tank but Armor and Gun are more capable similar to British Challenger 2

actually no the gun doesn't perform as well as the challenger 2... there is a very big reason indian forces have the biggest invetory of t-90. arjun is a very subpar tank.

Now ISRO had proved that it can also provide the best technology to our Air Force. Our Missiles & Rockets will now be reckoned best in the world. ISRO can manage the soft landing on the Moon it can also provide systems / Rockets / Missiles capable of soft landing on targets like heights of Kargil etc.
Disagree with kalvari and ak203 in the list...these are not indian designed or are made to make india self reliant. There are scores of other weapons fully indian designed and built with IPR rights that doesnt get a mention in the list, like varunasthra/sheyna torpedoes, atags/sharang guns, project 15b frigates, rudram/saaw air to surface weapons, agni series of strategic weapons etc etc....

We had and have enough talent to surprise the world. Our political elite destroyed the R&D sector by constantly importing defense and other technologies owing to lucrative contracts and kickbacks for 6 decades. This largely points out to the political parties in power then. After modi's ascent to power he prioritized self reliance and enhanced our defense capabilities, industrial growth, investments, space research advancement and aggressive foreign policies putting india in its rightful place.
So the difference between congress n the BJP government is clearly visible…

The issue is Not AtmaNirbhar only .... It is the Scale of Production and the Technological prowess that would make a difference. Our gaps are very well known and the effort is extremely slow there --- Metallurgy, Semiconductor Mircochips and Jet Engines --- We are nowhere at the Cutting edge here and will not be in the Near Future !!!

Tanks are Obsolete in the modern battle field as its proved in the Russia Ukraine War.
Even advanced tanks like the Leopard 2 tanks which are way superior to the Arjun Mark II tank have been destroyed by Russia , Russian ATGM's and Lancet Drones have wreaked havoc on any tanks that Ukraine is using.
India should focus more on fighter jets and drones because those who achieve air superiority win the War.

Wanted to watch what we Indians have created in terms of weapons technology but I cannot finish watching the video as my ears hurt from listening to the dramatic annoying doomsday sound every single millisecond and if I reduce the sound I can't hear what is being said, it's simply stupid
