The thing about PS4/PS5 backwards compatibility is that they have the software necessary but Sony never bothered to finish it and make it available to the public. The PS4 has the ability to emulate PS2/PS1/PSP just fine but the emulators were never finished and as a result its a hit or miss whether a game will work. They could have easily released a conversion tool for the PS4 that would simply rip the dics and convert it for the internal emulator but simply choose not to.
I say this all the time. Launch PS3 was the best console Sony has ever had. Sony takes away and then brings the features back later charging more money.
You only need 3 consoles for playstation PS3 fat gets you PS1, PS2, PS3 plus CD, DVD and Bluray PS5 gives you PS4 and PS5 PS Vita when modded gets you PS1, PSP, PS Vita plus minis

Sony has grown to become more and more anti-consumer since the PS4 generation. Remember, the PS3 DID NOT require PS+ to play multiplayer. But that changed with the PS4...... No backwards compatibility on PS4/PS5 is just another slap in the face.

My combo is ps3 slim with cd music, dvd, 1080p blu ray and USB playback, and ps5 with 4k ultra hd, dolby atmos, and headset and microphone support through the dualsense alongside VR and ps4 games. Playstation has been making mistakes lately, but when you find their strengths and utilize them they are SO GOOD
I was thinking about this yesterday and it is mindblowing. Whoever is in charge of these decisions at Sony is literally braindead. How the hell are we moving forward in time and technology yet they are losing features instead of building upon them.
My favorite part of the PS3 is that rumble and other features is managed by invidiual cotroller level so cutting off the rumble motors on DS3's was a only thing because I hate the extra weight they added. It is must do on PS4 and PS5 because those settings are systemwide and don't want to alien friends who actually like them.
Yes. I use an Elgato capture card in my PC. The PS3 HDMI out goes to a HDMI splitter to remove the encryption in the signal. Then from to splitter to my Elgato. The Splitter wants to be either old or really cheap. If it accepts HDMI 2.0 it’s no good as it’ll keep the encryption. It’s best to get a slightly battered 2nd one

I was always PS diehard fan, starting from original PS, then PS2, PS3, PS4 and now i recently bought PS5. And tbh, the PS5 is my biggest disappointment in the entire PS lineup, this is literally pimped-up PS4 with changed housing and software update. Neither PS4 or PS5 can support audio cd playback, mp3, mp4 playback from dvd/bd, multimedia sync with home network, and it doesn’t even recognize music or videos on plugged usb drive. These all things that PS3 did without problems. And it’s not hard to say, that the PS3 is still my number one and i’m probably gonna end up selling my PS5 as well soon.
Ye its absolute wank that I need to play legend of dragoon on teh PS VITA instead of teh PS5. Why is the PS3 and PS VITA store superior to teh ps5 one?

Quick note: All PS3 models can read an run CDs, DVDs and PS1 games. And you can jailbreak you PS3 slim or superslim to play ps2 games on it.
