When I hear things like "there's no law that says a company has to pay sick or maternity leave" I ask myself why we call the USA a "developed" nation.
Yeah, even my country, Colombia, a third world country and really corrupt one, has pay sick and maternity leave.

Most people in America are small business owners, or contracted workers, so sick leave doesn’t affect them too much, in-fact, it will likely hurt them if they have to pay their employees while there’s no income. Only people who work for big corporations are affected by sick leave.
Because this country is becoming more fucking disgusting as time goes on.
My mom is 70. I asked her to please lay low and chill out since she’s always on the go living it up. Her response, “If it’s my time, it’s my time mija” I’m like what!? Mom! 😂

Sure, have fun, Mom, but younger people can still get it from you before you have any symptoms. Do your kids and grandkids a favor and stay away if you're gonna throw caution to the wind, or make sure you actually practice good hygiene around them. I see old people coughing all over the place and licking their fingers to ppen produce bags at the store before they touch produce. I so want to cuss and slap them right now. I hope your mom's not that way or good luck.

If she does not care about her life thats her choice but she would be actively spreading the virus to other people who might value their life. Its the same as with vaccines. Protecting you is one thing, but you are also actively protecting others. Tell that to your mom. How would she feel if on of her friends died because she infected them with the virus?

It's not just old people who are at high risk. It's also people undergoing cancer treatment, people with heart conditions and/or high blood pressure, people with autoimmune diseases, people with asthma . . .

THANK YOU!!! my coworkers, four of them, are going to outbreak areas to party this weekend and are laughing at me being worried of getting this from them. i have asthma. a regular cold kicks my ass, and the flu hospitalizes me... this is going to be bad.
Exactly. I'm asthmatic and colds knock me down for more than a week and the flu always ends with pneumonia for me.
You can't really stop the disease at this point. The way I see it, if you're at risk, you need to be quarantined to protect you from getting the disease until it passes or until they develop a vaccine.
In other terms, we will have more deaths than Europe because Americans are very unhealthy even at a young age. Obesity, cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, asthma, COPDs allergies, liver diseases and kidneys as a complication of diabetes and so on. Many are not getting treatment as they cannot afford it. All this will decrease the age of seriously sick from covid-19. The population at risk is very broad in USA
In Italy we have people in their 20's and 30's fighting for their lives in the ICU. Patient 1 was a 38 y/o male who had recently been doing a marathon. He can now breath on its one after spending more then two weeks sedated and on a ventilator. Coronavirus is not a joke and you should be taking more measures to prevent it from spreading.

so if I need a ventilator I'll make sure they bring my comatosed boy into work looking busy.
Yeah people need to take it seriously. Following the death of the 36 yo man, another healthy teenager also died from Covid 19 in China. Scientists had pointed out the cytokine storm, created by one's own immune system while fighting the virus, can be fatal. Look it up. Not only old people are dying!
Aly90r I agree. In Wuhan, my cousin’s two uncles had dinner together just for one time. They all got the virus. One died and the other is I still in hospital. In another case, two people talk for just 15 seconds without a mask and they all got it. Please wear a mask for your family and others.
@@user-tu2dl6iq8w There are no masks in the US anymore, well, except maybe a few at extremely high prices online. Every store has been sold out for a while. It's also not possible to buy hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes in most places. Even rubbing alcohol for first aid is gone.
In Germany we can stay at home when we are sick and continue to get paid wages thanks to the good health care

If it goes on like this, you WON'T even have a live audience anymore. In Italy we are doing way more than social distancing. Everyone who is not required to go out for work reasons, is at home. Hell, I haven't gone out in 5 days. Me and my flatmates only go out to grocery Shop. All of the schools in the country are closed, and we at uni are attending classes online. I hope your govt starts to tale this whole thing seriously, because it is. The only reason why you don't have pur numbers is that you're not running as many tests as we are. Our hospitals don't have enough ICU to treat all the sick, and the situation is spiraling out of control. Please be safe, guys.

Same here in Austria. I’m not going to school on Monday for more than a month and hardly any social or fun event is still “existing”. I hope we can do better here but good luck and stay strong, neighbors❤️. ->UPDATE: on Monday all stores except, supermarket and pharmacy etc. will be closed for more than a month I think... things are getting very serious!
I'm in the US. The kids in my city are on spring break next week and they are all getting issued chrome books today. So, here at least, they may not be going back for a while if things get worse.....eta: prayers and blessings to you. Sorry if my comment seemed insensitive. It's all about the projection of might and prosperity to distract from the reality that we really are an overextended empire that is incredibly fragile and on the verge of collapse (our own Department of Defense admits this in its 2017 publication "At Our Own Peril"). I'm saying this as someone who, despite his privileged upbringing, is very much aware of this country's serious economic and social shortcomings that will likely erupt in social chaos eventually.

one of them won’t affect us for the next 100 years. the other is coronavirus. humans are honestly that nearsighted, and it’s sad but true. we only respond to threats once they put us in danger. until then we just laugh at victims. this can be proved by china’s inability to stop the spread. they didn’t see anything taking place but now that things have started rolling it’s already too late.

Miami is raising one forth of the city because in the next few years it 's going to see even more floods and in a few more years raising of the sea. Older people who live without air conditioning are dying like flies every summer, that, oh, how strange! is each year "the hottest ever recorded". Forests in the whole world are burning up at a much faster rate. Everyone needs to act NOW. The effects will be felt among the privileged soon enough.

And Miami’s flooding issue has been happening for over 100 years, but due to the recent increase in severe weather and tidal shifts their floods have risen gradually. Global warming isn’t responsible for anything other than habitat destruction along the poles, which has no effect on humans. None of those things are immediately harmful, whereas coronavirus is already immediately harmful and is already an issue. THANK YOU for finally talking about how most workers in the u.s. don't have the luxury to be out of work if we're sick!! Everyone keeps saying stay home if you're sick, but being bedridden when the regular flu came around last month cost so much out of my paycheck that my student loan and car insurance bills overdrew my account! I've been watching corona coverage like a hawk and battling a fever and cough for several days but I literally can't afford to stay home when I can physically come in to work, even though I know I'm risking getting students sick! And when all of this is over everyone will forget about it and nothing will still change...

Those who can work from home - should. Employers should make this an option. Those who cannot work from home (trade skills) should continue to go to work. By me working from home in my IT job I’m reducing spread of virus for those who don’t have that luxury. As for other workers (drivers, wait staff) who will lose work due to decline in business as the rest of us stay home - we need an economic package to help them make ends meet. It’s a complicated problem but we can’t keep pretending business as usual. Why isn’t the government addressing this? Blue collar workers are the backbone of our society. The stock market decline is minuscule in comparison to what will happen if we lose our millions of blue collar workers.
What was the percentage of Americans who could not afford a $400 emergency? Shudder to think what will happen to service and blue collar workers. Even many white collar jobs do not offer enough time off.
It is doubly frightening because we do not have a president capable of administering during a crisis.
Give those low skill jobs to robots and let the employees do simple problem solving and piloting for the robots.

my former job did not allow an option to work from home. 5 years of unemployment and NOW it takes a virus to allow flexibility.

I'm immunocompromised so prepping at my house has been intense, I just showed my teen that kid being disinfected to prove I'm actually pretty chill. That asking her to wash when she gets in is not such a big deal because I could be soooo much worse 😂

My Introvert ass: I've been trained for this my entire life.
Yeah I understood that guy doing all the things very well. A lot of people do that type of work today, pulling money in from different apps like ride services,food delivery, package delivery. I've done the package and food delivery thing myself at one point.
It's true that most of these people can't afford to stop. Sickness or not. What's worse still is, that's not the only problem with this type of work. Upkeep on one's vehicle for instance. A lot of these people are not mechanics and when your livelihood relies on your car this becomes an issue. I've seen mothers doing this type of work with their kids in the back of the car because they couldn't afford child care. I've seen people who live out of their cars do this type of work.
This type of work is a band-aid on a gaping wound. One of the last means of making bread for some people and a glaring indication of where this country is heading if something drastic doesn't happen. Next time you get food, packages, or even your own butt delivered using an app take into consideration, if not for a moment, what that person's story is.
It might be advantages to keep your distance with a virus and an incompetent government running rampant but remember you can still talk to people. Just don't let them cough on me or I'm pulling out that spray bottle like the dad.
