- It Bites perform Once Around The World live in Carlisle. Taken from the DVD 'It happened one night' Go and buy the dvd from www.itbites.com, you won't regret it! *I don't own this footage but thought I'd upload it to share more of It bites live to a wider audience
One of the greatest songs ever written. It has everything. Brilliant drums, guitar, keyboard, bass, light and dark, humour, irony, tragedy, brilliant vocals, just everything a song would ever need. Such an underrated band, with or without Francis Dunnery.
Behind every successful band there is a John Beck :)
Nearly always the unsung hero keyboard player who MD's most of it in the shadows.
(a sweeping statement I know but ....)
Yep, I agree. Love the unexpected drum cues.
@@nikthefix8918 ...esp the one at 6.39
Way way too rushed
The most underestimated prog band there was .They were brilliant 👏👌
Just brilliant!!! Greetings from Sao Paulo, Brazil, the capital of prog rock in South America
Never thought ANYONE would be able to replace Francis. Mr. Mitchel, you are amazing!
If anyone could, it's Mitch.
its so beautiful, spec the very end!
tears running down...
almost emo like genesis ripples...
glad there is some band to do this art-riock stuff👍
What a simply marvellous piece of music..........four extremely talented young men!!!!!
The dude Mitchell is from another planet. Guy can play/sing anything he sets his mind to. IB were actually BETTER 2nd time around with him. By the time they'd reached the OATW album, you could hear the muse deserting them. To come back with the stunning Tall Ships and the equally stellar Map of the Past was amazing. And John Mitchell was an absolutely huge part of that. Do yourselves a favour and check out Frost*, Kino and Lonely Robot. The dude's an absolute phenomenon.
No doubt JM is one accomplished muzo / producer ( i have a tenuous connection with him), and does justice to this song - but it was written by the original line up and for me, Tall Ships was never up there with the first three albums. Just an opinion!
Watched these many times live - this song live is special.
Very talented John Mitchel on vocals and guitar as well, it seemed impossible to replace Francis
IMO the best It Bites song ever
He's using the same rig as me! I've used a Marshall JMP-1 preamp, through a Marshall 8008 power amp and then a Marshall JCM900 Lead 1960A 4x12 cabinet. Not sure what FX units or pedals he might be using, but I have a Yamaha FX500 and FX900 rack units. I've not played properly in many years though, so would need to work hard to get back to the standard I was.
TOO much of the mike and mechanics and not enough genesis
@@EgoShredder That setup SOUNDS terrific. Get back to it!
@@aliensporebomb I am doing slowly but surely. Strangely my guitar technique has suffered far less than my keyboard skills over the same time. Yes the guitar setup is just great, and I had a few others before that. Thanks for the encouragement.
The two guys have one thinh in commom, both are big Peter Gabriel fans.
In my opinion this is a million times better than Frank’s recent live attempts. Ok... he co wrote the song, but full kudos to John Mitchell John Beck and co. This is amazing.
Quite brilliant, guitarist singer did a great job, big boots to fill.
Once around the world is one of the best albums of the 80s. It bites is an amazing band. Beautiful songs played very good by exceptional musicians. John is an amazing musician and singer and this is not an easy song to play. But I miss Francis.
I love everything about this song...about as perfect as you can get
Love this song....love "It Bites."
What an extraordinary band and an underestimated one
John Mitchell does the job almost perfectly but he isn’t Francis Dunnery
John Beck is the core and is dreaming here the dream of his life, he is so emotional
The end of the song is a beautiful interpretation of Supertramp’s Hide in your Shell from Crime of the century album
Bravo!!!
That's a bloody good sum up. I'd never spotted the Supertramp bit before ! cheers.
Huge John Mitchell fan here. Checking out what he's doing besides Frost and Lonely robot. This is really really good. I'm enjoying every minute. Cheers from Sweden! :)
Also the guitar player from Arena.
Such a great song! I bought this on vinyl and realized it was a special version of only 5/9 of the songs. I was so disappointed 😭
Insane musicianship ,,there's no many humans capable outstanding in the space left by Francis dunnery,,this benefits outstanding !
Your never gonna replace old Dunnery but just got to say what a brilliant version 🎸
Frank is a one off and I completely agree with you but if anyone comes close to replicating Frank's guitar fabness, then that's John Mitchell.
True, Frank is a genius and was such an integral part of the IB sound, but hats off to John MItchell, he does a fine job. Sadly when I saw them with JM, they didn't play this song :-( It's great performance.
Great version still great live but francis dunnery hard to replace john still still does a good job band still on top form 👍
Love it. John Beck is awesome
The dude on guitar is fucking amazing....
They sold out the Colston Hall Bristol in 1990, what a memorable gig that was.
Agreed...i was there 😊
@@toddbulky Me too!
Fabulous band👏🏻✌🏻
John Beck rocking a Yamaha EX5 on stage!!! Great machine. The swiss army knife of late 90s boards.
Gracias y Saludos, from Perú🇵🇪
best version since they apart!
simply great!
One of the most beautiful songs in prog, moving and impressive, Mitchel shreds even without Dunnery
My favourite song of theirs...
Absolutely grandiose❤❤❤
Anybody else singing the Walker Brothers " Take it easy on your self" at the end? Had the pleasure of chatting to Frank D at a house concert some years ago, he signed my album cover of Big Lad in the Windmill. He pointed at the picture of him and said to me "He's dead now! He nol longer exists" Cleary burnt out by his pharmaceutical experiences. Check out the live performance of Old Man and the Angel in Tokyo 1989, he's fried. You can see it in the eyes. Still played brilliantly, but apparently you can on the old Pepsi.
Phenomenal..!!!

Sublime.
Superb!!
goosebumps.
...polecam świetne, na żywo, ekstremalna precyzja...:-))
***** ...dziękuję, nie zaprzeczam, a dlatego u mnie dla Was jest...:-))
from 5:12 and on, one the most beautiful part of a progrock song ever
For me it starts at 0:00 ...;-)
John Mitchel, tu es un grand. tu as su relever le gand d'une manière magistrale après le départ de Francis Dunnery. Chapeau!!!
john mitchell is perfectly suited to it bites, they are and always have been a fantastic band.
He sounds like a cross between Francis and Peter Gabriel when singing.
@@EgoShredder Francis Dunnery is as close to Peter Gabriel as any singer has come close to. Tone wise and the style wise, John Mitchell is good though.
Now that is how to close a gig off.
Brilliant stuff cant separate mitchel and dunnery
F*****g superb!
That's simply fucking epic.
Lee Pomeroy is the man when it comes to prog basswork!
r i p
@@kevcatnip7589 the Lee Pomeroy that died on the subway isn't the same person. The bass player is alive
I was in backstage, had a pleasure to met Lee after soundcheck in Chicago. Was a YES feat. Anderson-Wakeman-Rabin-Molino-Pomeroy tour in 2018. But, important moment during the soundcheck was when Lee changes bass guitars, a few Rickenbackers and for Rabin-era songs he used(not so sure) Music Man. All of sudden, John and Rick take a short break, Lee throw away pick and starts some Fusion jamm riff, Rabin and Molino join the club! Oh, my goodness, Lee starts soloing and scat sing the same notes like Benson does. I couldn't believe, what a transformation, i thought that Lee is reincarnation of Chris Squire(all the respect and R.I.P.), but these guys, firstly, Lee Pomeroy blew me away.
I had to share this when I saw this video and because of fact that there are so much phenomenal musicians who are almost unknown. Lee is one of them.
Hope you don't mind because of my 'emotional' reply. Jazz Fusion addiction wrote this.
@@chupeauxx Absolutely not! Just reinforces my beleif that Lee is a talent.
@@EddieG1888 Thank you, Eddie!
Your first comment inspired me, made me feel sincere emotional.
Fantastic. Hard to replace Frances but they did it. That John Mitchel guy is amazing.
Epic.
All the joy and fun what they had seems to have disappeared.
I wonder what John Beck is thinking when he looks up and plays that sublime short keyboard solo at 11.25..............
'God, I look like Viv Savage'????
The smile on the bass players face says it all...
Seeing him play at Wembley wirh ELO playing bass with an It Bites T Shirt on was awesome. Fair play Lee.
@@WhitchurchStuff I was there. He gets the best gigs to be fair, and well deserved.
never get tired of this composition...
btw, are they inactive now?
Great to see this, what year was it recorded? 05:33 is a great bit of prog.
Decent version that lads...
wow
Bob Dalton
Great player Bob makes it look so easy
Wait.....Frank....Mitchell?? Somehow that name seems familiar!!!
🎼👌
Excellent band and although John Mitchell is an excellent guitarist and singer, I always miss the unique voice and appearance of Francis Dunnery.
IB are great but This sounds like a medley of five or six good songs.
what happened to Dick Nolan?
joined the kinks and god knows then ...he was a handsome guy
How many original members are here? Anybody?
Two: Bob Dalton and John Beck
I remember this well. I was onstage tuning John's guitars :)
Will Boswell
John Beck is so multi talented. He's fookin ace
So you were!
As said below - Francis he ain't. But John Mitchell doesn't disappoint. Only John Beck remaining from the original line-up, but nevertheless this is an excellent performance
Original Drummer, Bob Dalton is playing here.
Great tune. Shame for Francis, but he made his choice. John is equally capable of "flying around at 9,000 miles an hour".
Seems almost adulterous to enjoy this. Something happened when I was away. Frank morphed into Pete Sampras.. the drummer and bassist have exchanged hair-styles and the top-hat is gone. Also, you can see every bit on the guitar, no hide-aways. Good but odd.
Rikk303 Hey man, you just have to get over change. The tunes and players are still awesome. I'm sorry so many people are just learning about these guys. I've been a fan since 1989 when I saw them in front of Tull. Dunnery was fantastic. I saw them in Orlando and I know the soundman would remember me because I was pestering him to find out more. I could barely see Dalton and had no idea he was adding vox...so thought it was Beck through a doubler...but that kind of doubler didn't exist then. And I love Mitchell....love Dunnery but don't miss him at all.
Pete Sampras ROFL
He did an awesome job, hard boots to fill If truth be known he pissed all over it.
TBH frank fucked up loads of solos. He was over talented and when young over cockey. Great guy. but john was a perfect replacement.
Not as good as FD.
Just a cover...no Francis
Two of the original members are still there, John Beck and Bob Dalton. This version is just as good as the original, would you call Genesis a cover band because the original drummer and guitarist left? Of course not. Yes is the exception, literally no original players preforming in Yes anymore. It Bites is still half of the original band.
Just a cover act without Francis, sorry.
