The radio message between Osiris and Ana at the end of the story was really beautifully written and performed. If that's the standard for the story then it should be a really solid season for character work
it's the perfect comparison of the writing in the game, Osiris is written so well and Ana sounds like the average twitter user. "i'm here for it" and calling Clovis "Gramps" 💀
Hey Datto, just wanna thank you for everything you do for the Destiny community. I know you’re probably feeling a bit burnt out, just like a lot of the destiny community is, but even then you’re still bringing us content that we all enjoy to see.
Honestly am thinking of changing my build that I've used for the past 2 years cause the content feels hard enough for me to actually invest and think a little
+5 and high enemy density felt amazing to play into as it felt like I had to sink my ammo and abilities into enemies without them either melting or feeling like sponges.
Took a break last season for about two months after weekly story content was over. Hardly played at all in those two months and it really rekindled my enthusiasm to play this game again when the new season launched. Don’t be afraid to take breaks people. It will help fatigue, trust✌️
@@shadowphoenix68 I like how we're making statements like these that are critical for the destiny community to hear but are just basic advice anywhere else. The destiny fanbase is like a group of athletes that doesn't know to drink water every now and then
So many people need to take a break sometimes lol. They all talk about fatigue and dislike for the game and yet continue to spend money and throw themselves at the content
I feel like this is a better Season of the Hunt and a better Season of the Worthy. Some people don’t like reused assets, but it feels better than before by being in one activity.
@@luk4aaaa As long as the story context for it makes sense I'm down for stuff being reused like this. I mean, it's not like we've had any reason to go down to the Exoscience area for 2 years, so it's nice to do something new in that space.
I seriously don't understand the complaints about reused assets. What were they expecting with a warning themed season? Non-warmind environments? Just like last season, of course the fallen ketch will have fallen architecture. That's how it works. This season has a lot more than that too that they're ignoring. The 2 boss rooms we've seen are unique environments. The opening encounters have changed to the existing environments. The actual bunker sections might not have the most variety, but they still have destiny combat with new enemies and enemy combinations. People just like to complain.
I don't mind having re-ussing assets tbh, as long as it's for a story purpose and not exactly the 1:1 copy of the previous usage unless it's reprise like vog or kings fall for example. Last season we got that pirate hideout using assets from dcv-ed lost sectors with different skins like that one lost sector on mars but they decorated it with snow. It's not affecting the story at all for me.
I honestly really like your fair and balanced takes. You don’t just talk about one side, you make points for both sides, for all people, and just plainly lay out the facts and how you feel about it. Very well done
I'm really glad that the Warmind is back into the spotlight. He is my favorite part of the narrative and I love the warmind theme and aesthetic of his bunkers and weapons. Really wish we could call in the Heavy Frame big boi again though.
I feel like us fans of Rasputin are somewhat cursed, since every season focusing on the warmind so far has been considered some of the worst seasons we've had.
@@mango7587 hang on, Warmind was not a bad season at all. Season of the Worthy though... that was arguably the worst season we've had. Not ever the Fourth Horseman could save it.
3:59 The Moon Battleground boss is a Scorn, but when you first fight it Mara remarks that it's wearing House Salvation armour, which means it used to work for Eramis pre-Scorning, implying that it got reanimated as a Scorn solely because of Eramis's failure.
I do believe that Bungie is trying to find new ways to make content harder without using the old ‘more champions + match game’ formula. I’d expect we’re gonna see more of these modifiers going into Lightfall.
The witch queen legendary campgain and this are nice yeah there’s still champs in the heist play list but the amount at least on normal is toned down. Legend heist needs to be seen
This is also shown in the enemy design. Lucent Hive Lightbearers were a first attempt at high threat enemies that aren't champions, and with Lightfall we're getting Tormentors.
Ye legend WQ felt like a decent challenge without being just champ spam. Although they need to either increase the timer for res tokens or take it out completely, it's annoying to wipe because you physically can't cross the map fast enough to beat the miniscule timer
In my opinion, the issue is not the seasonal model, its the core game. Every season, when you aren't doing the seasonal content, you're running core activities. While raids and dungeons hold up well, strikes, crucible, and gambit as our main playlists are severely neglected. None of these have been properly overhauled in any of our major expansions. I'm not expecting much from the season, but I want Bungie to take the time to make the base game more engaging and enjoyable.
Exactly. And this isn't a new issue. People having complaining about the core playlists since pre-Beyond Light and Bungie has done pretty much nothing. So yeah, no shit the player base gets pissed off when it starts to look like Bungie has things exactly they way they want it and they don't feel like changing too much. The idea of this season, next season, and the season after that all following identical models feels exhausting, especially when I load into a strike that's older than my cats.
Gambit literally only just got lightly touched. It also hasn't had new maps ever, literally ever. Pvp finally got some maps I guess? I don't find strikes as much as a slog as I used to but I'm not exactly lining up to do them either. I generally avoid the core playlists when I can because I show them the amount of respect Bungie has shown them, absolutely none
Really starting to dig the seasonal activity. Really makes me nostalgic toward old Destiny 1 strikes especially that final boss where enemies aren't instakilled the second they come out of the fog doors.
Yeah this season is really triggering my aesthetic sensitivity, plus I really dig osiris, clovis, and anas dynamic, and i have a good feeling about the dungeon.
@@UMADBRO64 Bro I ain’t defending Bungie, but the negative sentiment has gotten so out of hand it’s ridiculous. Seasonal model is terrible now and Bungie should’ve said something sooner and it looks like they realize that now. Most of the community is complaining more so than usual when they could just drop the game and play when it’s better. Quit forcing yourself to do something you clearly don’t like and the rest of us will enjoy it, bro.
And hopefully an original joke at some point too. Sorry, that's rude. Even if it isn't original, it is still funny everytime I see it, so at least that's true.
I would be down for longer seasons with more mysteries and surprises stuffed in. Seasonal activities feel very similar to each other, there is no need to make so many of them.
the heist difficulty is very nice, season seems pretty cool so far, i wasn't expecting drastic and dramatic changes between seasons like a lot of people and joe said on twitter that they've heard the feedback so it's only a matter of time in my eyes
@@TheLegitAlpha We do lol, iirc we can look forward to some major changes by season 21-22 but there are plans to innovate with lightfall release as well
I really hope Elizabeth comes back, she’s been one of my favorite characters since beyond light and it makes so much sense for her to appear this season
I like that the story and characters are back into the focus. The last seasons here and there felt more like filler episodes while this feels like we're back into the main story again and its nice.
S16 was at least connected to WQ, although it kinda just, ended without any resolutions being made S17 finally addressed the nightmares on the moon, although it was probably more to set up calus for lightfall like S15 did for WQ S18 just kinda came outta nowhere We'll have to see what the rest of season 19 brings story wise
As always Datto with the voice of reason. You have the uncanny ability to perfectly word out what I am thinking in my head regarding D2 and the state of the game. Thank you for putting this out there and I hope more folks listen to this. Does it suck that Bungie has taken this long to even acknowledge the feedback? Of course it does, but companies and corporations (which Bungie is) work at a different timescale.
High-Key season of plunder I was super excited about cuz pirates, but got bored/burned out after doing the weekly stuff and took a break and came back 2 weeks before the season ended and being able to do ALL the seasonal stuff at once felt much more fulfilling and rewarding especially since I had 12 weeks worth of seasonal quests to pop. they popped like candy every other activity. I sympathize with some of the complaints but i'm also big on the "if you don't like it do something else"
Honestly the best thing to do at this point is play twice a week to catch up with the story. After story ends, return at the last two weeks and finish it up as you said. I been doing this for the last 4 season and it makes the game enjoyable. I honestly think people want this game to be something it's not. There isnt enough content to satisfy the hardcore players. The game is a lot more casual than people realize but ironically has a hard time maintaining new players
As a 14 player, the idea of taking breaks is nothing new; But man, Destiny just needs to stop timegating stuff. A week or two for a raid release to give people time to catch up gear and do the rest of the new stuff is fine, but it just leads to burnout and kills hype.
The destiny community is passionate and dedicated as fuck tho. People want the game to improve as there really is no game that can compare to this game in some aspects
This was an on point First Impression video. I really appreciate your pragmatic editorial on community expectations, what to really expect ,how soon, and why.
The story is nice it does seem like we’ll see some cool rasputin/Clovis bits for about 5-6 resets then we wait till the end of the season where it’ll kick off lightfall. I do hope we see Xivu this time and she’s not just some background villain we hear about. The weapons new weapons look cool and the SMG has a fun perk that hopefully we see more of, the Ikelos weapons are nice and crafting is nice the upgrades seem like it’s a bit easier to get red order stuff But lord Datto made his opinion video must follow
I am convinced that the 9x3 grid is where most of the exhaustion comes from. Upgrades that are tied to acquiring red borders being time gated, materials, abilities, etc that in order to get them we need to wait until week 4. They should start with that if they're looking to improve the seasonal model imo
I think most folks that want the seasonal change are kinda forgoting that bungie does plan these out in advance the fact that Blackburn mentioned s21 probably means that s21 is still early enough in production that they can think of changes to make and potentially use on s21 forward. I personally don’t feel the burn out as others do I do see the issues with it but as far as being burned out from what we do? Nothing I always look forward to hopping on and just playing for a hour or so.
One child is yelling at the other child because they won’t respond to their criticisms. When the other child finally does respond, both children can finally see eye to eye and come to an understanding. Communication is very important.
Well said Datto. Don’t feel defeated. There are tons of us who are enjoying the game. Understand that it takes time to make changes and in the mean time finding the enjoyment of what we have. Consider the amount of time we play during the season for 10.00. Can’t go to a movie on 10.00 bucks and that’s just 2 hours and done.
Something else to note: the people that are often quite content don’t feel the need to scream about it. Combine the quiet positive crowd with the natural human negativity bias, and it SEEMS like EVERYONE is flipping their goddamned minds about the game being trash but honestly, it’s so, vastly better than the worst I’ve seen. I was shocked people were comparing Plunder to Worthy. Worthy was SO much worse! It made me wonder if people were even playing the same GAME as me! The echo chambers are real.
@@michałnieściór But the player numbers tend to always be lowest on the 3rd season of the year. It was that way for worthy, it was that way for Splicer (all around a really great season) and it's now been that way for last season, too. I'm not sure how much of it can all be contributed to the game's issues, because the game has really, always had some issues of varying intensity and pain. This time to me it feels like the outcry is disproportionate to the actual severity of the issues.
@@elizabethhicks4181 3 weeks late to the argument but there were also a number of big game releases at the same time as Plunder, God of War: Ragnarok being just one example, which naturally pull players away especially in the latter two months of any season.
@@NicholasF153 It's great at a lot of things. Mainly using the beam rn but remember you can shoot 14 bullets and still fire the full beam on the 15th bullet
@@NicholasF153 it's honestly just fun all around. Run it with my Caliban's / radiant hunter with font if might and it puts in work. Don't know about GM viability, as it's a bit of a one trick pony, but definitely fun.
@@elizabethhicks4181 i started using Malfeasance a lot last season as well as Wishender and some other exotics with built in champ mods. I havent played Destiny 2 since forsaken; But always, Datto is the first person I go too see if the new season/ update is worth my sinking my life back into. Thank You Datto
The seasonal model isn't the root of the issue. It's the fact that it's always almost EXACTLY the same. I don't mind the framework of the seasons to have the same base, but each season needs to have something novel about it. I like this season so far because the activity is pretty unique. What I want is the exotic armors to have an interesting way to acquire them instead of lost sectors every season. Destiny thrives on novelty and freshness. Menagerie was amazing because of how new and original it was. That and crucible/core play lists constantly missing out on updates. On day 1 I finished the story and it was back to strikes and crucible. That is where the majority of playtime is spent and it definitely needs help.
Exactly this. People are getting frustrated because it's the same bite sized story and mission per week and then you go back to the defunct core playlists to play the same maps and run the same strikes year after year with little to no updates or loot to chase. No shit there's burnout and telling people to just "take a break" doesn't help when the same problems will still be here when they return. The seasonal model is just exacerbating the fact that the core of the game has been left to rot for years.
I think this season is just the unfortunate example of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Bungie, love it or hate it, cant react quickly and so the feedback they are getting know was never gonna be implemented into this season. With that said, I think going forward bungie needs to reevaluate the activities on offer and maybe do more with core activities season to season instesd of adding new but not new activities that only last a few months
I mean sure. Game development takes a long time, but like Datto pointed out in the video we have been in this slow slog for a looooong time before they just now finally acknowledged all the feedback they've been getting on their lazy model. You can't expect Bungie to change on a whim and make all new content in an instant, but you ALSO can't expect the player base to settle down and wait for the changes THAT NO ONE TOLD THEM ABOUT. I get that they needed time to figure out what new direction to take the game in, but a simple "we hear you, we're looking into it" would have been great...
@@bannedmann4469 they've literally explained why they can't do an expansion as big a forsaken anymore, but we can keep pretending it's possible if u want
Why is that? I'm genuinely asking because, I've only been playing D2 since around WQ. Plus I never heard that the company explicitly explained why it can't do expansions like Forsaken anymore. Thanks =)
The addition of the 5+ to your light level is a really good change, champions kinda ruin the balance but you know. Nice video as always, love ya and keep that amazing work!
I don't think that's far enough. Theory: In addition to taking over the Exo Frame, Clovis ultimately merges his mind with Rasputin and takes the entire Warmind network for himself, betraying everyone.
At this point, Datto is giving first impressions on the community each season. I'll try and tune out the community noise this season compared to the rest of seasons prior. I hope Datto and everyone else will do the same if they value any semblance of peace of mind and not having an excruciating head-ache reading a Twitter/Reddit Post. Thank you again Datto for another based video. I love you no homo.
Great video. I think the biggest thing that I’m struggling with in Destiny is that PvP is in shambles, and that was what helped me with seasonal fatigue. Crafted weapons has also made the weapon grind easier so less play there (double-edged sword). I also wish that rather than having a weekly raid rotator where the master version is locked until that, to let master raids be constantly available. Master raids for old raids would be great. And go ahead and add day one raid challenges as a setting. But like you said, my expectations are too high, only because this game has the potential to be that great.
My perfect Light Level solution would be a mix of both ideas: Activities have a base floor (power level 1600, say) Once you hit the floor, then the modifier keeps enemies always 5-10 levels above you
THANK YOU, especially for bringing to attention that the past 6 seasons have been consistent in quality, which as someone who's been through the worst parts of the game has been a relief to me, especially Season of Worthy and Undying being prime examples of actually bad seasons. (And even as far back as Black Armory to an extent with all the bounty filler to get a single gun and the actual activity being "throw the ball at the thing", which sure it has the excuse of being the first season but the point is we've actually come a long way since then.) It's also weird to me that people are saying Bungie hasn't done anything new with seasons when they've clearly been experimenting a bit more, like Season of the Haunted having more of a focus on the narrative and exploring a patrol zone that had constant mini-bosses spawning, but you know that doesn't count apparently because people decided they didn't actually like that after asking for a focused Patrol zone experience so it gets lumped in with the other "bad seasons". (Also as a note seasonal content needs to be accessible to casual players so there's only so much complexity this content can have especially when the average Destiny player struggles to pass a ball, which is why we get a new Dungeon or Raid every season now for hardcore players.) And as far as community negativity goes I think one reason why it's been increasing is because more and more Destiny creators are doom posting almost every other week now about "The game is dying" or "Bungie is killing the game" so it's been fanning the flames so to speak, especially when a bunch of people made Season Tier lists and consistently put Haunted and Plunder in low tiers while lifting up seasons like Black Armory and Arrivals in higher tiers. (Like I personally don't get the Rose Tinted Glasses over Arrivals when it was basically Worthy 2.0, public event based content with no matchmaking that required bounties to make any seasonal progress, and it was the start of Sunsetting where we had to earn identical copies of guns we already had just to keep them.)
Yeah the fact that there was an entire patrol zone part of Haunted with secret bosses, recurring events, was almost completely ignored. Same thing goes for the way that allied AI characters have become a regular occurrence when in the past it was only reserved for parts of certain missions. And so on. The community is so negative, it’s almost unbelievable, and I purposefully don’t go into the deep end of it anymore when I used to be more active in discussions.
I hope many people just take a step back and realize its ok to not play the game every day or week. Its ok to feel burnt out. I'll probably just do the seasonal story each week and do other games in the meantime
Yea, that eye battle is crazy! I am all for challenge in story mission I agree with your sentiments, a little transparency is all I ask and they’ve provided it, so I’m fine with it
I dont expect 'more' per se in the season, I just want it to be at least a little different. I really liked the ghost ship and the Crow mission in those seasons, and we havent gotten something like that in a while. and we keep getting the same super drip fed content with different icons and cutscenes between. I didnt notice, but I do like the +5 level modifier you mentioned. I'm over leveling every season, and I hope this may be an indicator that we dont need to level anymore except maybe new expansions. I dont want to do 20 minutes of new content, and then go to core activities Ive done for years, so I can keep playing the new thing and get the new gear. Maybe switch it up and instead of gating the whole thing week by week, gate it behind some reputation, and some puzzle solving or something, shake it up. There are definitely things they can do to be different between seasons and not cost any more time. Maybe include the seasonal exotic in the progress, dont just have the same dang 200 >:( activities to unlock it, maybe make it be something like kill some important guys with the exotic in the new activity (with core activites as a backup when the activity may be gone). I liked when they sort of did that with the trace rifle before witch queen. Its just annoying when the new season immediately feels the exact same as before, I think that is the crux of the complaints, especially when this is the end of the year. Hopefully the dungeon will tie into this season nicely, at least.
Thank you Datto for a thoughtful, measured reaction. I haven't gotten much time this week to play the season, but I managed to finish one character's seasonal story mission steps. It was pretty much exactly the volume and style of content I expected from a new D2 season. I'm equally confused why so many players were expecting this season to be vastly different. I'm excited for the Dungeon. I'm excited to see the exotic mission on the orbital platform. I will otherwise enjoy making numbers go up. (My gear power level, my artifact power level) And of course I will enjoy ticking boxes to earn different seals.
I agree I like the modifier on the battlegrounds missions to make us under-leveled. It feels good, a little challenging but not too challenging for the grind. I hope this becomes the norm.
for me its always been the seasonal activities that make or break the season for me. last season didnt personally like it but this season its alot more fun to grind.
I don't really have a problem with the delivery system of the content. The issue I have is the fact that I played new content for around an hour on Tuesday and I was already done for the week. We need more up front content at the start of the season.
Expectations are way high while Bungie is making 2 other games. People are upset that more dev time and money is not going into their flagship enterprise, not to mention all the content in Eververse. Is Bungie really surprised the playerbase is sick of grinding 5 year old core content. Is it too much to ask to have a dedicated PvP dev team? Gambit, strikes, crucible have all lost content. They added new comp updates with one reward, updated Rose. You reach max rank and eont even get an emblem, not to mention Rose wasnt dropping. Zero innovation in this game anymore. The same seasonal model over and over but we are not supposed to expect more. Because Bungie refuse to put more money and dev time into this game. But they can create new games and obviously more of a skeleton crew on Destiny. This is a problem Bungie created, but we always got a large majority running defence.
This season is more exciting and a nice change of pace story wise to go into Lightfall. This video hits it right on the head. Always appreciate your input Datto. You’re a valuable asset to this awesome community
Weakened Clear is better than you think. Slap that on Witherhoard and it weakens the target for the duration of Witherhoard, and then *20 seconds* afterward. Really good for solo play or small groups where Div might hurt damage otherwise. It also pairs nicely with a wave frame GL and Collective Obligation, letting you apply Weaken and then spread it around.
yo Datto, i’ve been keeping up with your destiny content since the beta, even if i haven’t been active on destiny, and just wanna say i really appreciate the energy you find to speak up for how you feel about the game even if that’s not what players want to hear. You do you 💪
I think it would be ballin to see Clovis’ exo body in the Helm become Rasputin, like, Clovis tries to get into Resputin’s head and Rasputin is just like. NO U 🗿 and takes over the exo body but keeps Clovis intact. Always funny when Clovis the egomaniac gets reality checked
Thank you for saying it is going to take time before something changes. People i have talked to have not understod that changes takes time, and definitly can't change when plans and systems are so deeply rooted in the game.
The power delta of the new activity adds so much excitement to combat. It feels like my loadout can actually make a difference rather than be complete overkill.
Thanks for your thoughts as always. Agree with your comments about "just take a break if you're not having fun". I understand content creators needing to generate clicks because mo clicks, mo money and having your bank balance linked to the perceived success or failure of one game must be frustrating and stressful during perceived lulls or periods where nothing is really changing at a level visible to the consumer, but my god am I fed up with the sea of vitriol on the bird app. The community needs more sensible people like yourself and I always appreciate your takes.
Very good review.Other unstoppable exotic devil's ruin.Had to use because I couldn't get hand cannon mod to prock. Also liked Heist because of the five under level. Was not able to just run through.
The exchange between Mara and Osiris was kinda heartbreaking. He was so sad, almost broken when he asks if his sacrifice was worth it. Coupled with the Osiris/Ana conversation the writing and voice acting are through the roof
I had ZERO expectations that Bungie would change anything with the seasonal model. All I’m doing is letting Bungie know that the model and gameplay loop is just not working for me anymore, with my playtime with the game, or lack there of. I’m enjoying other games rn. Would I like to get a 3rd version of the IKELOS weapons with new perks? Sure, but I don’t have the motivation to do so, especially when other games have my attention rn. The only thing the game has that will continuously bring back me to the game every week, is to see what happens in the story. That’s it. If Anyone was expecting an overhaul this season in the seasonal model, are crazy and lack insight on game development.
3:51 I mean all the fallen we see are wrathborn infected by a virus that rewrites the fallen mind and dna to serve, then there’s the scornification (which isn’t a word) of Eramis’ favorite champion in the moon vault. So yeah Xivu is definitely punishing her. Still wish we got more of Xivu she feels so underutilized this season, like her being the villain feels more like justification for the season than her being the villain.
I'm actually having some fun with this season. The seasonal activity isn't a completely braindead chore. It's nothing incredible, but I at least need to track spawns, manage abilities, and be wary of the boss. Not to mention it's a 3 man activity which means I can do the hard mode without needing LFG. I loathe 6 man activities. Except for menagerie, I hold firm that every 6 man activity we've seen has sucked. The new guns are really cool, craftable Ikelos weapons are a nice touch, and there's a new reason to play DSC with some cool weapon rolls. We're getting a new exotic mission soon which has potential to be good. If it's around presage quality then I'll be really happy. With strand coming around, I have reason to do some GM's and restock on shards and prisms. Helps that the GM rotation is pretty good. While this season is nothing spectacular or anything, I feel like people are overreacting. It definitely has the potential to be the best season this year despite being made from the same basic ingredients of the other seasons. Though if the exotic mission really sucks, that will definitely take the wind out of my sails. My only real disappointment is that this was the perfect opportunity to take a good pass at warmind cells. It's this massive part of the sandbox that Bungie has just chopped off despite being loved by fans. With all the light 3.0 subclass overhauls complete, the general staleness of elly welly/CwL builds, and the theme of the season, it would fit so damn perfectly. Time to bring those 3.0 verbs into warmind cells. Make burning cells apply scorch, modular lighting apply jolt, power of rasputin apply weaken. Maybe add some new mods, like collecting a cell granting invis, and adding stasis mods that slow or freeze. A stasis cell mod which allows you to yeet a cell and freeze enemies in a large radius would be so fun. We used to get new mods with seasons all the time, what happened to that? It was an awesome way of incentivizing creativity and build crafting. I'd argue they add more value than the new exotics each season. Such a missed opportunity, cuz without a reason to shake things up, people are just gonna keep using their existing builds.
If the season at this point brings some really good weapons, a good story, and enough gameplay for me to want to hit the pinnacle cap, that’s enough for me at this point
My issue with the seasons is how they feel so disconnected. Like 1 season is hive, then next season, oh hey, mithrax needs your help, then it's "you think we forgot about rasputin?" I just feel like the seasons should better flow into eachother
They desperately need better writers. “After spending 3 months collecting the severed limbs of a godlike servant of darkness, we brewed them into an aphrodisiac tea and it made Osiris all better again :)” *??? what ???*
@@fort809 bro I actually laughed when that cutscene played. "Hey guardian, I know you spent the last 3 months folding the fuck outta some pirates and are probably expecting a good reason you collected all those relics"
Datto spitting straight facts and I am all for the message in this video. No one forces you to play the content, if it's boring then go play something else. If you like it, enjoy it but don't say that because you will probably get called a Bungie fanboy. Seasonal stuff is a little hit and miss personally and I do what i enjoy, then I go play something else...it's a wild concept but it works for me
Another thing to keep in mind is that changing the seasonal model entails risk. Doing something new can be great, but it can also increase the chance of a new season being a heavy flop. A new idea could totally fail and bungie will have to ship a very lightweight season as a result. Keep that in mind as well. Change is not always good.
I REALLY like the extra stat mods. It really helps you to get to the next tier and it allows you to free up a 1st mod slot on another piece of armor. I hope they make more off these and one for almost every stat
Thank you for being a voice of reason, Datto, as you usually are. I find the negativity around the game to be incomprehensible. I'm actually playing more now than I have in recent memory, and I've been playing since 2014. I remember the days of content droughts, of 6-9 months of /nothing/, of disappointing activities and silence from Bungie. What we have now is way better. I actually saw someone on another video comment that they "wished it could go back to how it was in D1 like with House of Wolves, that was a way better way to do content" and I was like, absolutely flabbergasted by that. Like... what? That was abysmal and at the time everyone hated it. Would I mind if they switched things up and gave us something new? No, not at all. I like new stuff. But I genuinely don't understand why people are so tired of this model. It gives me a reason to log in and shoot my guns for a few weeks every couple of months.. thats what I want out of this game.
First of all i gotta say I dropped previous to witch queen and came back in plunder since I had no money to pay for the seasons, much less the expansions. However what really got me back was the witch queen free week, got me excited to do things and play the game again and I even soloed Shattered Throne and PoH (which I’ve never attempted before due to time). I gotta say that it’s refreshing to hear from one of the big names in the community that nobody is forcing you to play!
Thank you! THANK YOU!!! You have said, quite eloquently and diplomatically, what I am apparently too old and too grumpy to phrase as such, I.e. “STOP YOUR DAMN WHINING, PEOPLE!!! NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TOO PLAY!!!” Sorry. Got that out of my system. Your insights are pretty spot on, and align with my own almost perfectly. However, even at the times that they don’t, I’ve never regretted subscribing to your content. Bungie addressing seasonal fatigue issues and letting us know they’re changing it up in Lightfall is finally great, I just wish people would actually listen to the devs instead of dropping the 15th video of “Hey Bungie i don’t like this and it hasn’t changed immediately your game is dying I’m done with Destiny”
I think seasonal fatigue has also been a thing that's been felt and talked about for quite a few seasons in a row. No one serious is expecting the entire model to change immediately, but after 6-9 months of radio silence with all changes seeming to be designed to decrease fun while increasing a boring grind it reached a tipping point. I'm glad it's being talked about, and hope the future seasons are better, but I seem to be doing a lot more hoping and coping than I am actually playing the game. The grind and fatigue is just too much. My plan is do less than an hour a week of a dungeon or raid with friends, earn no pinnacles, play a bunch of playlists during the Holiday event to attempt to triple dip my time. Maybe just get try getting seasonal bright dust after week 8, and only doing playlist activities if it's a double XP week. But so much Eververse has moved to Silver only I might not even bother going after Bright Dust at all
Bungie has said they will not do any changes to the seasonal system until after Lightfall's seasons end. This means we have at least one and a half more years of this outdated toxic practice. This criticism has existed since seasons first started. Datto's channel and fans are single handedly doing Destiny's PR and coming up with excuses for legitimate complaints.
15:30: I agree with you. I think the witch queen was alot like the menagerie. WQ campaign set the bar sooooo high. So its been quite a while since we got something that isn't a raid/dungeon that has that WQ level quality. That's what I would guess at least
im with you Datto, I don't know why people were expecting something different with no indication at all from bungie that there would be. Maybe if people took breaks from the game from time to time, they wouldn't have "seasonal fatigue". After all, there are a TON of other games to play.
I feel like the focus on Airborne Effectiveness and the ‘flight’ mechanic of Manticore is all to train us for when the Strand darkness class arrives in Lightfall. Apologies if someone already commented a similar thought.
Great points in this video. This season so far is the first season in a LONG time (maybe next to the witch queen legendary missions) that I was happy for my poor squishy hunter to die. Feels great to have some challenge! Oh and the nostalgia I felt when I heard the Warmind bunker doors open was enough to make me smile. Also, what's an Oolong?
Thanks for being the voice of reason in the D2 community, I feel like you don't get enough recognition for that. Your commentary is always insightful, and I love watching your vids!
Malfeasance been putting in work through most of the new activity for me, not just good at nailing the Unstoppable gribblys Devils Ruin also pretty good as well. The new Armour is so gorgeous and the activity is pretty fun being a bit more intense to go through with randoms. Can't wait for the new dungeon to drop 🤓👌🏻
The radio message between Osiris and Ana at the end of the story was really beautifully written and performed. If that's the standard for the story then it should be a really solid season for character work
I was pretty sad when I went online and saw people really hating on the story and the voice actor for Ana. Like damn guys, chill out.
So good...
it's the perfect comparison of the writing in the game, Osiris is written so well and Ana sounds like the average twitter user. "i'm here for it" and calling Clovis "Gramps" 💀
I liked it a lot as well, definitely had a good message to take away from it
Definitely was not expecting something like that, was a very surprise
Thanks, Datto. After 7 years playing this franchise, I still value your pragmatic approach and reporting on the game.

@@piplup2009 honestly yeah, this should be Bungie's new power scaling system

+5 and high enemy density felt amazing to play into as it felt like I had to sink my ammo and abilities into enemies without them either melting or feeling like sponges.
Took a break last season for about two months after weekly story content was over. Hardly played at all in those two months and it really rekindled my enthusiasm to play this game again when the new season launched. Don’t be afraid to take breaks people. It will help fatigue, trust✌️

I feel like this is a better Season of the Hunt and a better Season of the Worthy. Some people don’t like reused assets, but it feels better than before by being in one activity.
I agree. I'm digging the Warmind bunkers and Seraph towers mixed with the Crypoliths. The enemy density is nice too
imo if assets are reused to create something new and interesting I don't mind it at all.

The Moon Battleground boss is a Scorn, but when you first fight it Mara remarks that it's wearing House Salvation armour, which means it used to work for Eramis pre-Scorning, implying that it got reanimated as a Scorn solely because of Eramis's failure.
I do believe that Bungie is trying to find new ways to make content harder without using the old ‘more champions + match game’
formula.
But there was major reforms to crucible this season i kinda feel like
Really starting to dig the seasonal activity.

Lol it's just super safe middling cowardice. I have more respect for Skarrow sticking to his shit opinions and fighting for them.
If you dont like it do something else is a cop out that excuses the team from being innovative. How hard is it to not defend bungie?
@@SoccYT because no one is forcing you to play.
As a 14 player, the idea of taking breaks is nothing new;
But man, Destiny just needs to stop timegating stuff. A week or two for a raid release to give people time to catch up gear and do the rest of the new stuff is fine, but it just leads to burnout and kills hype.

The story is nice it does seem like we’ll see some cool rasputin/Clovis bits for about 5-6 resets then we wait till the end of the season where it’ll kick off lightfall. I do hope we see Xivu this time and she’s not just some background villain we hear about.
The weapons new weapons look cool and the SMG has a fun perk that hopefully we see more of, the Ikelos weapons are nice and crafting is nice the upgrades seem like it’s a bit easier to get red order stuff
But lord Datto made his opinion video must follow
Can I just say that I love the voice actor for Clovis? He fits the character really well!

This man is the only man to deliver constructive criticism about the seasonal model and not destructive criticism
“It’s not the seasonal model but it is the seasonal model!” Stfu, you’re being pedantic.
The expansions no longer really expand. Taken King and Forsaken chnaged damn near everything. We don't get that anymore

My perfect Light Level solution would be a mix of both ideas:
Activities have a base floor (power level 1600, say)
Once you hit the floor, then the modifier keeps enemies always 5-10 levels above you
THANK YOU, especially for bringing to attention that the past 6 seasons have been consistent in quality, which as someone who's been through the worst parts of the game has been a relief to me, especially Season of Worthy and Undying being prime examples of actually bad seasons. (And even as far back as Black Armory to an extent with all the bounty filler to get a single gun and the actual activity being "throw the ball at the thing", which sure it has the excuse of being the first season but the point is we've actually come a long way since then.)
It's also weird to me that people are saying Bungie hasn't done anything new with seasons when they've clearly been experimenting a bit more, like Season of the Haunted having more of a focus on the narrative and exploring a patrol zone that had constant mini-bosses spawning, but you know that doesn't count apparently because people decided they didn't actually like that after asking for a focused Patrol zone experience so it gets lumped in with the other "bad seasons". (Also as a note seasonal content needs to be accessible to casual players so there's only so much complexity this content can have especially when the average Destiny player struggles to pass a ball, which is why we get a new Dungeon or Raid every season now for hardcore players.)
And as far as community negativity goes I think one reason why it's been increasing is because more and more Destiny creators are doom posting almost every other week now about "The game is dying" or "Bungie is killing the game" so it's been fanning the flames so to speak, especially when a bunch of people made Season Tier lists and consistently put Haunted and Plunder in low tiers while lifting up seasons like Black Armory and Arrivals in higher tiers.
You hit the nail on the head. A season is bad until another one comes around then it becomes "the good content"
I like this season so far, plus we got a lot of secrets and also a underrated improvement to DSC weapons

The banter between Elsie and Clovis were top notch
I enjoyed 3v3 rift 10x more then 6v6 personally, felt more strategic especially and maybe even exclusively because of being in a premade group.
That’s for having a level headed and nuanced take on things.
I agree, the difficulty on the new activity feels great. It reminds me of Heroic strikes from D1
for me its always been the seasonal activities that make or break the season for me. last season didnt personally like it but this season its alot more fun to grind.

I don't really have a problem with the delivery system of the content. The issue I have is the fact that I played new content for around an hour on Tuesday and I was already done for the week. We need more up front content at the start of the season.
14:00 to 22:23 is exactly how I feel, glad someone understands how I feel about the current game and that expectations are way to high
I always enjoy your takes on Destiny. Its very balanced, well thought off and reasonable. Great work as always.
I can't believe how much that single tweet from Joe gave me faith in the devs
When datto said “I’ll let you know I always do” fuck man that hit me hard, you’re always here you got our backs we take you for granted my guy.
Our opinion is finally here guys!
Saint and Osiris should have a sex my opinion😊
Praise be, now I know what to think!
yo Datto, i’ve been keeping up with your destiny content since the beta, even if i haven’t been active on destiny, and just wanna say i really appreciate the energy you find to speak up for how you feel about the game even if that’s not what players want to hear.
I do always appreciate when Datto plays exasperated nanny for the screaming nursery that is this community.
🍻
you dickriding bungie that hard is crazy
The music in the first heist mission was really, really awesome.
Now if only they could increase the density of enemies in strikes and the bosses health…
Yeah this new difficulty level is perfect 👌
Very good review.Other unstoppable exotic devil's ruin.Had to use because I couldn't get hand cannon mod to prock. Also liked Heist because of the five under level. Was not able to just run through.
The exchange between Mara and Osiris was kinda heartbreaking. He was so sad, almost broken when he asks if his sacrifice was worth it. Coupled with the Osiris/Ana conversation the writing and voice acting are through the roof
The way Datto says "Ill let you know, i always do." is so weirdly... caring? He sounds like he actually wants ppl to enjoy his favorite game.
A Destiny Break sounds pretty hot right about now
I had ZERO expectations that Bungie would change anything with the seasonal model.
If the season at this point brings some really good weapons, a good story, and enough gameplay for me to want to hit the pinnacle cap, that’s enough for me at this point
hearing all this really bring me some hope!! Thanks (:
We need a Datto summary of the stories in Destiny, honestly such a top tier way to describe what's going on
A VERY sober take on the state of D2. Appreciate it
My issue with the seasons is how they feel so disconnected. Like 1 season is hive, then next season, oh hey, mithrax needs your help, then it's "you think we forgot about rasputin?" I just feel like the seasons should better flow into eachother
Yeah I’d be fine as long as we’re not fighting the hive for literally all of the seasons
They desperately need better writers.
“After spending 3 months collecting the severed limbs of a godlike servant of darkness, we brewed them into an aphrodisiac tea and it made Osiris all better again :)”
Seasonal stuff is a little hit and miss personally and I do what i enjoy, then I go play something else...it's a wild concept but it works for me
Congrats you won a prize
Cheerfully inbox to acknowledge your prize
Thank you Datto, for always being the Voice of Reason.
Personally, I'm having fun with this season and I'm also enjoying the new perks on the ikelos weapons.
God, how good it is to FINALLY hear a voice of reason on the whole seasonal burnout debate. Thank you Datto!
Thank you! THANK YOU!!! You have said, quite eloquently and diplomatically, what I am apparently too old and too grumpy to phrase as such, I.e. “STOP YOUR DAMN WHINING, PEOPLE!!! NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TOO PLAY!!!”
Sorry. Got that out of my system.
Your insights are pretty spot on, and align with my own almost perfectly. However, even at the times that they don’t, I’ve never regretted subscribing to your content. It’s enjoyable, informative, diplomatic in tone, yet sarcastic and world-weary enough to satisfy my inner middle-aged curmudgeon. Thank you, Datto.
The finger on the monkey paw curls*
(Let’s just hope the change is good)
I think seasonal fatigue has also been a thing that's been felt and talked about for quite a few seasons in a row.
@@elsienova4269 I’m pretty sure they said after season 21
15:30: I agree with you. I think the witch queen was alot like the menagerie. WQ campaign set the bar sooooo high. So its been quite a while since we got something that isn't a raid/dungeon that has that WQ level quality. That's what I would guess at least
im with you Datto, I don't know why people were expecting something different with no indication at all from bungie that there would be. Maybe if people took breaks from the game from time to time, they wouldn't have "seasonal fatigue". After all, there are a TON of other games to play.
🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏
Thanks for the update Datto. Oh and congratulations on your voice finally breaking 😊
Excellent plot summary. You got my upvote by 1:20
🤣
I feel like the focus on Airborne Effectiveness and the ‘flight’ mechanic of Manticore is all to train us for when the Strand darkness class arrives in Lightfall. Apologies if someone already commented a similar thought.
i really REALLY liked also the modifier -5 power for the seasonal activity, also the amount of ads is really good
Great points in this video.
