The best part of the 650 class is also the insurance prices are much lower than the super sports plus the fact you can ride it for years and not want to get rid of it maybe add another bike to the stable
Continental GT 650 anyone? Yeah it’s still at 47 horses but then the gear box out plays the Yamaha’s and Kawis. I could go on about it but then just a thought. Peace out ✌🏼
Nah bru. INT 650 and GT 650's are boring compared to the MT-07. Cool if you want a 60's beach cruiser or to own a Bonneville's emaciated-generic-cheap cousin, but if you want solid performance mixed with enough HP to have you riding happy for a few years, I would stay away from Royal Enfield.
@@matthewst.andrew10 They are gorgeous bikes at a bargain price. Don't understand the hostility towards them. What's not to like? Just bought one and can't wait to humiliate the sporties on my favourite road. And yes, it will happen.
The fact that aprilla is S tier without being released yet bothers me also it's a supersport bike like r6 and zx6. Street triple and cb/r650 are league above with other midweight bikes like z900 mt09 gsxs750. They're not your typical 650 not from HP point of view and not in the same budget range, They're much more expensive and faster with better parts. 650 class always been budget and newer rider friendly bikes which offers the best bang for your buck. 100 plus HP top premium bikes are not what 650 demographic looking for.
My only problem with the street triple is the reliability, and it is really competing with the likes of the mt09, z800 and gsx750. If we're going off pure performance and enjoyability, I'd take the triumph any day off the week though
@@leventenagy4302 I don't think reliability issues have been a thing with the Striple for years now. It's part of Triumph's bread and butter and now that the engine is powering Moto2 bikes, they REALLY ain't fucking around with that either.
@@leventenagy4302 I really don't understand his ranking and what criteria he was judging the bikes. If the budget and accessibility is irrelevant, Cb/r650 and street triple should easily be S tier they're simply much better bikes with better parts and built quality than any other bike in the list. There is absolutely no reason to pick mt07 or sv650 over cb650 or street triple. But if budget and accessibility is relevant how aprilla's mid weight supersport bike which fully loaded with all of the bells and whistles on the S tier It's easily going to be the expensive one on the list. Btw z800 got discontinued back in 2017 and replaced by z900.
@김지운 It's not just about the price but performance as well. 650cc class usually considered for the people who want a bike which is not too fast nor to slow bike and good option to smartly start on and grow with, Without putting yourself in danger. Gsxs750 is a powerful mid weight naked bike. Which can be too much for inexperienced rider. It had 115HP which all tuned down low. Performance wise it matches street triple and mt09 z900 cb650 and all other mid weight naked bikes.
I should mention that the interceptor and continental gt's are actually well built, simple, and most importantly, sell from $5,800 to $6,000 brand spanking new. I actually really like these machines.
Just bought a Continental GT and will be taking it home in the Spring. Wonder if they would get more respect if they were 4000$ more expensive. The Kawasaki W800 was the same price as my KTM 790 Duke.
@@GrtSatan From what I could tell, the general consensus amongst reviewers comparing the W800 and the GT 650 is that the Royal Enfield had better riding characteristics for $3,000 less. @@peterburch3102 Agreed. Not a hooligan bike by any means but a thoroughly competent all-rounder that just happens to be drop dead gorgeous. Looking forward to riding mine!
And I have (probably not sold in the USA) a Triumph Street Triple S A2 660cc derestricted from 47 bhp to 94 Bhp. Quick enough for me and the triple sounds way better than the twins. Plus it is in bright red ! I don't have one, but the RE Interceptor looks good to me for those who want retro looks at a very good price. Also A2 friendly in UK and Euroland.
@@Perpdawg339 It was a new throttle twist grip from Triumph, and Triumph also have to do some ECU remapping. In the UK, almost 2 years ago (Oct 2019) , this cost me about £200. It was about £120 for the throttle twist grip, and £80 for a Triumph dealers to do the work. I think Triumph are a bit secretive about their ECU maps, so getting a non Triumph dealer to do it could be difficult.
If your into cruisers in this class, the Vulcan S is king, unless you prefer old school styling. It looks nothing like a old school cruiser, it more like a X-divaelS at a price real people can afford. I bought a '17 SE ABS model brand new for less than $8000 all in. Still have it and love it. Love that 650 twin in my bike, great motor.
The Triumph Street Triple is leagues above these other bikes and should not have been in this comparison at all. It absolutely dominates its class. As for the cost? Brembos and Ohlins don’t come cheap
I remember my cousin had a Vstrom650 a year back, went for touring in the mountains, got the bike's body loosen up, sold the next day. The fit and finish you will get from that bike is like a toy. Maybe good for smooth roads but in half-built roads, a 20-30kms stretch will loose your fit. He owns a less powerfull Honda 500x and he is happy with that
I'm 20 years old and got my first bike a year ago, on May 1st. It's a really old bike from 1993, a Honda NTV 650 (which is similar to the Hawk GT you got in the states) for arround 1200€. A carburated 62°V twin with 60hp and a massive 212kg dry weight (460lbs) I Absolutely love it. Handeling is great for a bike with this much mass, the old engine that needs some sweet pillow talk when starting. And the thing is indestructible. Normally at 50.000 miles most would think a bike wont last much longer. Here the NTV is just bearly run in and is good for 3 to 4 times that. Ive never even heard or read about an NTV with an engine failure. Also its shaft drive with a single swingarm. I dont know why but i love older bikes/cars. just old fashion mechanics and no electronic nick nacks.
Dylan G haha so their opinion doesn’t matter, but this is entirely correct “like it or not”??? Right... but you do know that is just an opinion, and that rating bikes into tiers is entirely subjective, don’t you? But nah this is the truly correct order. Never mind there is no actual criteria or objective measures, there is no room for a difference in opinion.
@@emilchandran546 So what you think a bike with 2 more horsepower, but less overall power, less top speed, a pogo stick for suspension, and 2 bananas for brakes is 3 whole tiers above a bike made of premium parts at the same price point? You're on drugs.
[HUN]AntaresSQ01 three tiers of what? Value, performance maybe not. But I would rather have a RE. It’s affordable, got loads of history, it’s kinda in my blood, I’m not Indian but my family is and over there RE’s are super popular. But that’s besides the point, my point was this “tier list” is objectively, meaningless. It doesn’t have any points system or rationale. Therefore it is nothing more than an opinion. And an opinion is not correct or incorrect. Not unless it is backed up by something else. So it really is pointless to say “no ___ bike is actually is an ___ teir”.

It looks good and there is nothing wrong with the riding experience but, it's just boring honestly. I have owned one and yes it is reliable, easy to work on and easy to ride and all that. It just dosent have a ton to offer. It makes a good choice for a beginner standard rider but not much past that. I traded mine in after only a few months and got an FZ 09
Well, thanks to Yammie and other youtubers, I actually bought a 125cc bike earlier this year, learned to ride it and now I'm done with it. When I pass my A license next year, I'm gonna get rid of it and probably buy an SV650. Yam has successfully biased me towards this bike.
The Honda's with the inline 4's are S tier imo Like come on... Price aside, the Honda's are better in almost every way shape and form compared to the SV650 and the FZ 07... Build Quality, Breaks, Power, Suspension, are all superior on the Hondas...
Bennet B Yes, you are right about the Honda having better breaks, more power and more advanced suspension, unfortunately the motor sucks. I owned a 1979 CB650 and it had an annoying flat spot in the powerband. Great to know that after 40 years of R&D at Honda that the new model still has a flat spot. On the other hand the SV650 Suzuki is virtually unchanged in 20 years. A top gear roll on in 6th at 100 km./hr. will have the 4 cylinder bikes struggling to keep up. Just think about how good that v twin motor must be to still be competitive after all that time. Your choice flavour of the month by Honda or a proven V twin classic, hard choice !
I think it's worth mentioning that a Harley has a belt drive, which completely removes the Very regular chain servicing that is needed on almost any other bike. I have a sportster 1200 and I would definitely recommend one for a new rider. I'm also enjoying the hell out of my 2018 Yamaha MT 07, it made the top of the list for good reason.
I've owned the SV650 and have the Street Triple R, so know only a lunatic would rank the SV ahead of the Street Triple, the Triumph has almost 50 bhp more than the SV and its build quality makes the SV look like it's been built by the visually challenged.
I’m new to the motorcycle game but I’ve put on a couple before. I was leaning more toward the ninja 650 with clip ons but that cbr650r looks just right. That Aprilia though holy shit man
I want that same aprilia some day but the reliability is the question. It's good all around. Just reliability I'm worried about. It will be expensive too. European things cost alot.
That defines how different we all are in terms of individual taste and preferences. I've ridden harleys but prefer other bikes over it. Not taking away anything from HD but it's just not my cup of tea.

A 650 isn't a beginner bike. BTW Royal Enfield has made some big steps lately on modernizing their frames, suspension etc. I don't know exactly what models have been up graded but I might buy one of those. Need to do a little research on the specs.
Unless you prefer the S40s' old school style, the Vulcan S is better in every way. It's also better than the HD Street 750. The HD Street Rod 750 is more in league with the Vulcan. I crossed shopped several 650 ish cruisers but ended up buying a '17 Vulcan S brand new.
I’m waiting for the New Aprilia RS660 parallel Twin Supersports. The reason why it is a Supersports, makes more HP than the CB650 inline 4 and has fully adjustable suspension with x2 track riding modes. If worried about the seating position, it’s because it’s a 2 cyl that’s why we get that position. The Ninja 400 has a less aggressive seating position than the Previous inline 4 400, also has nearly same power but less weight. Ninja 400 breaks inline 4 400 lap records. I will expect the RS660 to do the same VS 4 cyl in 600 class.
What? What what? The rs660 cant compete with the majority of 600cc bikes purely from a power standpoint. All the bikes in the 600 make 125hp+ standard and the weight while higher still gives them better power to weight.

royal enfield 650 should be a lot higher. I know is under power, but it is a cool looking and great priced bike! Its a canvas for that hipster who wants a classic bike with reliability with a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty.
But there was never a full fairer factory sv650. All are either aftermarket fairings or aftermarket bikini fairing lowers. The closest we ever got was a model called the sv650 sport sold in the dying years of the second generation which added Suzuki's own bolt on fairing lowers as standard to try and encourage sales.
You missed the Vulcan 650 S but it also fairly lies within the "D" tier with the other kawasakis. I bought one and regretted it. Now I have both a v-strom 650 and an SV650 (the SV650 is my wife's bike). For rides less than an hour, the edge goes to the SV650; it's just more fun. For longer rides or if you're using a motorcycle for something practical rather than canyon-carving and joyriding, I'd choose the v-strom.
Yamaha V Star 650. Only suggesting because it's the bike I'm currently on and I wouldn't trade it for anything... Until I get my full license and can buy above 650, then it's big boy cruiser time.
Just a heads up: that appears to be a CRF450L on the A list, not the overweight, underpowered unchanged since the 1990s XR650L. There is a shot of the 650L, but the 450 is shown on the list. Im not sure how I feel about knocking bikes down on their ranking based on price. Similarly I wouldn't want crappier bikes rated higher than much better bikes just because they're cheaper. Prices are the one thing that we all know going in. Also, they can change based on location, mileage, new/used, etc. What we want to know is what we're getting for that price, which is what reviews should be.
The Kawsaki Versys 650 is a better road bike than a Suzuki V Strom 650. The V Strom is better as an adventure bike. Go ride a Versys 650. That bike has very good suspension for a budget bike, the parallel twin has a good amount of torque and rev's high. As for maintenance, chain maintenance, oil and brake pads is all you will do. My opinion is you need to reconsider your perception of Kawasaki. Go ride that Versys
Can you make a video comparing twin cylinder 600-650 bikes versus the inline 4 600-650 bikes? There is so much crossover between the numbers it can be confusing which has 60hp versus 120hp
I think the ninja/z deserve c or b tier. Good engines. Good bikes, albeit boring. Slap a decent exhaust on it and get some character and it's perfect for a lot of people.

I had a cb650, went to a zx6r then to an sv650. Cb650 was the least fun to ride but the best all rounder. Zx6r and sv650 are both really good hooligan bikes for different reasons

Fz07 is god tier a lot of lists, best bang for buck, best light weight bike, best twin cylinder engine, most fun bike to own.
The best part of the 650 class is also the insurance prices are much lower than the super sports plus the fact you can ride it for years and not want to get rid of it maybe add another bike to the stable

Just watch the Fort9 vid or something? 😂
100 plus HP top premium bikes are not what 650 demographic looking for.
yeah, there's not much consistency here. If the tier list is aimed at newer riders, why include bikes like the Street Triple or Aprillia at all?

I don't have one, but the RE Interceptor looks good to me for those who want retro looks at a very good price. Also A2 friendly in UK and Euroland.
How do you derestrict it
@@Perpdawg339 It was a new throttle twist grip from Triumph, and Triumph also have to do some ECU remapping.
Leagues above all the bikes except the aprilla at the end which also shouldn't be in this list bc it will be competing with the 600 cc supersports

It's a really old bike from 1993, a Honda NTV 650 (which is similar to the Hawk GT you got in the states) for arround 1200€. A carburated 62°V twin with 60hp and a massive 212kg dry weight (460lbs)
I Absolutely love it.
What about the Vulcan S? Considered the more friendly beginner bike
The Vulcan s is the best 650 Kawasaki. Probably not included on the list because they'd have to put a cruiser in A tier 🤷♂️
Vulcan sucks big time
Best 650 out there is the Norton Superlight, 650cc parallel twin, 270 degree firing, 105bhp, 75 Nm
Good lord this nearly entirely wrong. Yam come fix this.
No its not? Just because your favorite bike isn't s tier doesn't make it wrong lol. The bikes that are listed are correct, whether you like it or not
Dylan G haha so their opinion doesn’t matter, but this is entirely correct “like it or not”??? Right... but you do know that is just an opinion, and that rating bikes into tiers is entirely subjective, don’t you? But nah this is the truly correct order. Never mind there is no actual criteria or objective measures, there is no room for a difference in opinion.
Emil Chandran Yeah you right, my b

The Honda's with the inline 4's are S tier imo
Like come on...
Your choice flavour of the month by Honda or a proven V twin classic, hard choice !
this is the problem with fanboys who rate tier base on inline numbers but not the performance of the motorcycle.

Don't bash my Ninja 650, but I'm going to buy that new Aprillia RS 660. Don't think you could really rank it since it isn't even out yet tbh.

A comparison between the Ninja 650 and the Ninja 636 might be interesting to bring up.

I agree with that. The only reason the vstrom gets more praise is because of the 19 inch fornt wheel and spoked rimes.
Can you make a video comparing twin cylinder 600-650 bikes versus the inline 4 600-650 bikes? There is so much crossover between the numbers it can be confusing which has 60hp versus 120hp
