This test is of the Canon J21ax7.8B 7.8-164mm f1.8 Broadcast servo zoom lens. It is a very high magnification portable lens. With a normal 21x zoom range and a built in doubler it can reach approx a 42x zoom ratio. Quite an impressive lens for such a compact SD broadcast lens. The lens has a B4 mount and is suited to 2/3" 3CCD sensor cameras, however in this test I have adapted it to a S16 and S35 sensor camera with an optical correcting adapter.

    Does it have autofocus?

Hi Robert, most B4 lenses don't have autofocus. Autofocus is not something you require on professional video lenses. So no autofocus on this lens or any other lens in my B4 lens test series.
      Thanks for the question! 😊👍

Ah yep, that's an easy one to explain. The lens code says "21x7.8" in this case. So you use the 2nd number as the widest focal length of 7.8mm (approx equivalent to 27mm on a full frame camera). Then the 2nd number in this case 21x is the zoom ratio. So you work out its maximum telephoto focal length by doing 7.8x21=163.8.. so it's a 7.8mm to 163.8mm lens. In full frame equivalent that is approx a 27mm to 573mm lens. Which can also zoom further as it has a built in 2x teleconverter which can extend the zoom for S16 sensors. So you can zoom to the equivalent of approx 1000mm lens on S16 cameras.
      Does that explain it?
