Incredible feeling this video gave me! The kindness, the appreciation and the warm hearted human interaction. Wonderful people just met and left us feeling : happy!
As someone with a similar body type, it was REALLY nice to see this guy in your video. Until now I always just stuck to bouldering since I did not think I'd find someone to belay me. But if he makes it work with his partner (and the ground ankers) I have hope that I soon can try climbing too.
For top rope, the weight of your partner is irrelevant since the ground anchor does the work. Even for lead climbing there are options. I weight 35kg more than some of my belayers and they can handle it, but most gyms have some options like sandbags, Edelrid Ohm or just tying to an anchor point. This makes them (and me!) feel much safer and more comfortable. In other words, go for it 😊
I'm a 120kg powerlifter and my 65kg girlfriend belays me just fine. We just put a twist in the rope at the top, the extra friction is enough to not pull her into the wall. Some places don't like you twisting the ropes as it wears them quicker, but it does work just fine.
I am not a climber but I occasionally belay for a friend of mine who is heavy (because so am I). His gym knows me and I don't have to pay to get in like the others because I am literally only there to support my friend. He doesn't lead climb that often though and with top rope his other friends can belay him.
Oh do it, man! I have a friend whose husband is literally 3 times her weight and she belays him and vice-versa. When she belays they just put a twist in the rope on top rope. For lead climbing they use a device that helps with the weight difference and a sand bag to give her some extra weight. Gotta give it a try! Not to mention the fact that rope climbing is such amazing endurance and cardio training.
When I was a kid I climbed with my 10 years older brothers, I was bit more than half the weight of them but belayed them even without anchor, sand bag or twists. It worked just fine.

This dude has an amazing attitude. Great teacher, great sport. I give that big man all the praise in the world.
The part where he asked “how often do you need to change the battery” had me dying with laughter.
These are so fun. You have to be the best "I've got no idea what is going on" professional out there doing this. Your acting is superb. Almost forgot. That 2yr climber helping you is a gem. What a great guy.
squirting the liquid chalk into the bag got me
What I love about this series is how nice all the coaches are. Then the big reveal and Magnus is just as nice. It's a great reminder of how good humans can be
Incredible feeling this video gave me! The kindness, the appreciation and the warm hearted human interaction. Wonderful people just met and left us feeling : happy!
You're the only person that is playing a beginner more believable than an actual beginner :D
Squirting the liquid chalk into your bag was so out of pocket and hilarious. You're improvising is going next level. I love it ⚡
In pocket*
Bro the other climber who was “helping him” was an absolute G
I love Manny with the glasses. As a bigger guy myself, he gives me the inspiration to better myself. Seriously, he's such an inspiration, I'm getting a little emotional. Alcohol probably lends to that.
I heard whispers that Magnus was in Sydney and didn't believe it!! 10/10 acting from Magnus (and Paul!) and I'm so psyched to see you showcase the Aussie climbing community, they're a wonderful bunch.
I like how Paul is trying to not burst out laughing the entire time.
I laughed out loud when he turned around in that chair looking EXACTLY like magnus, hahaha. Dude, find someone who does SFX makeup for school, they'd love to put a YT video on their resume and you'll get something awesome.
I like how what you said about the climbing community is so true. As I was watching this video with my wife and kids, I commented how this would probably happen in any climbing gym. Such a wholesome sport/activity.
It's really nice to see how people are willing to help
My favorite thing about these videos is just how fucking nice everyone is when they think he's a beginner. I love the climbing community so much
I am a simple man. I see a Magnus pretending to be a beginner video. I give thumbs up.
I love how manny stopped talking on the last one as he started to realise lol
Magnus disguising himself as Magnus is the best idea for a video yet.
I love these. Even if he gets recognized immediately, Magnus' acting is amazing! Running straight into the wall for the dyno, the liquid chalk in the bag, the gloves over the chalk after. Amazing comedy!
This is literally my favorite series and inspired me to try climbing. I was a gymnast for 10 years and I've finally found something that gives me the same feeling.
so relatable!! also a gymnast for the same amount of time and found climbing a few years ago. it’s been a huuuuge gift 🥹
The moment you put on liquid chalk then proceeded to put on gloves just absolutely killed me 😂😂 the beginner performance is getting better and better each time!
That guy who just hangs around and helps him when he thinks he is a total newbie. What an incredibly nice human being.
Both Paul and Manny are great guys! Patient coaching. Love that these videos show how nice the climbing community tends to be
Manny, what a legend. Couldn’t imagine getting coached by a better guy. Great video Magnus 💪🏻
Magnus. Newsflash! You are very famous. My twin sons, who do not climb but play football, know who you are. Anyone who watches UA-cam knows Magnus Midtbo. You cover is permanently blown!
I was surprised to find out my coworker, who is not a climber or ever climbed, knew who Magnus was. I thought only folks into climbing would've stumbled upon him.
He's not very famous, but famous enough that some people recognise him on the streets.
Yeah I’ve only gone climbing once in my life but I still watch magnus just cause he’s entertaining
I am a sailor and I know him 🤣
Can't believe Paul kept a straight face the whole time
This guy was really nice helping out Magnus! What a good guy, climbing community is supreme.
That dude will be a phenomenal teacher one day
Holy that coach was a Saint! Such a good dude! World needs more people like him
The facial feature still looks very much like magnus :D But such a fun disguise anyway
Also the beginner acting is actually on point, i would've believed it!
Yeah his face is too beautiful to hide, for sure, but he always remembers to hide his big firearms- I mean forearms.
I love the little detail at 3:50 where he completely breaks character with that shake.
also at 2:10 the quick grap in the chalk bag
I missed that 😂 you must be a detective
Like the meme of dude walking out of the coffee shop/gambling establishment that immediately clears his hands when asked about gambling 😂😂😂
The guy belaying inspired me to finally start climbing. Really love the inclusiveness and patience to help beginners learn and feel confortable. Great video Magnus!
I changed my mind on man with buns because Manny has proven to me that even manbun kind has a golden heart as well.
Whether the instructor gets fooled or not, I adore these videos! Such a fun concept, and when it ends up coming together perfectly it's just sn absolute *_chef's kiss_*
Agreed, more please! This was a disguise fail but the content is fantastic 😁
That guy in the gym was awesome. Magnus was dead right. He was so patient and was a great teacher. Well done indeed.
The way he full on smashed himself against the wall though that’s real commitment there 6:21 😂😂
Awww I loved this! He was so respectful and motivating. I definitely gotta try this when the opportunity presents itself.
Magnus, as great as these videos are you are never going to be able to get away with them anymore.
You are very well known in the climbing community and everyone that wants to be a climber and has climbed has almost certainly watched your videos.
Keep up the awesome content though.
First guy knew exactly who you were. Magnus can't hide lol.
That jawline don't lie
To be fair it was a terrible disguise 😂.
You aren't just a fantastic climber after all, you are a great human being! Keep it up
This is my home gym, so its awesome to see you climb routes that I see other people avoid on a daily basis. Absolute legend
where is it?
Australia
Same, this is also my home gym. It's wild seeing Magnus climb that Orange 4 that I was just doing last week lmao
Same!!!
Aaw the guy with the glasses is such a sweetheart!! :D What a golden personality he has!
the dude is another reason i have to have trust in humanity. I hopre there r more people like him. I have met a few, but seeing more, it just makes me happy that there r more people as kind, helpful, patient, and motivating like this dude. Big shout out to him. And, Magnus, u r pro-pretender as well. have a good laugh when u pretended to be afraid to let go and fall.😂
If this doesn't prove how kind people are at a climbing place I don't know what will. If you're ever nervous about starting, don't be. Everyone is amazing
That teacher was awesome, he was so patient and helpful
Magnus is becoming the Sacha Baron Cohen of the climbing world 😂
I actually thought that while I was watching! Lol
I like the instructor. He's making climbing easy to understand and fun.
That instructor guy trying not to break character the entire video was great. 😂
The guy holding the rope seems like an absolute legend! What a cool guy!
You gotta get prosthetics to hide your jawline. Its your most defining facial feature aside from eyes.
The liquid chalk in the bag got me. I dont know how he kept a straight face doing that. Also the guy helping is great.
This is absolutely BRILLIANT! We love Eric and would love to see more of him! Magnus - incredible beginner acting as always and what a good guy Manny is! ❤
0:10 subtitles "change my parents even more drastically" yep that'll do it, you won't be Magnus anymore
Thought it was just me
The guy that helped you climbing in the second part really is so helping and patient ❤
Saying Alex Honnold’s free solos were faked, knowing full well he has free soloed with Alex was the cherry on top for me 😂
