For anyone who might be wondering where they've heard Wallace Shawn before, he was the voice actor for Rex in Toy Story. Yet another iteration of the kind of high strung, flustered character for which he has often been cast. He also played Vizinni in The Princess Bride

Subtitles for anyone who needs help following a Scottish accent, by the way. They are "mostly" accurate.
Many years back, when I was spending a night at a French youth hostel, my fellow guests included a guy from Morocco, with whom I could converse pretty comfortably in French. Another guest was from Scotland, but I could barely make out anything he said to me in English.

I think Wallace is portrayed as a Sensing type, and this is a great example of Sensing vs Intuition. He's intrigued by what Andre is saying, but he doesn't relate to his "out there" thoughts or experiences at all and he likes to keep everything grounded and realistic.
The real Wallace Shawn might be INTP though, or maybe INFP? 🤔
Fabulous video, but I'm pretty shocked that both typologists were thinking there was a higher chance that "guy on the left" (aka Wallace Shawn) was an INFP than that "guy on the right" (aka Andre Gregory) was an INFP. To me this is very clearly a case of ISTJ vs xNFP thinking. Gregory's character could have been an INFP or an ENFP. Shawn's character, on the other hand, is unquestionably an xSTJ. I will never understand why so many people seem to minimize the role of Ne in INFPs, as if INFPs exist in a permanent Fi-Si loop. Needless to say, INFPs are FAR more similar to ENFPs than they are to ISTJs, yet for some reason that is not always recognized as such. Of all the xNxP types, INFPs seem to be the least recognized as being high in Ne, and I would like to get to the bottom of why.
That said, this video is SUPER fascinating and I can't wait to see more videos in this series!!!
INFP is possible, but Andre seemed quite comfortable initiating, being adventurous and letting his Ne take the lead. I felt he was talking more about his ideas than his feelings, and with both he was looking for some feedback, If he was an INFP, he would be a more extraverted subtype of INFP, imho.

@@jonathancampbell5231 , yes, I can see why you both typed him as an ENFP rather than an INFP. (Although that being said, don't INFPs often talk about ideas more than feelings too, due to Fi being introverted and therefore often hidden?) However, regardless of what type of xNFP he was, he was clearly an xNFP, whereas Wallace Shawn didn't strike me as any type of xNFP at all--quite the opposite, in fact, as he was constantly shooting down Gregory's fanciful ideas and theories with pragmatism, skepticism and conventionality. So it's really difficult for me to fathom how he could be mistaken for an INFP more than Andre Gregory, who far more embodied the traits of INFP-ness, even if he was ultimately an ENFP.
@@jonathancampbell5231 also, one other thing--according to Dario Nardi's research on the various subtypes of each type (as described in his interviews on Joyce's "Type Talks"), the creative subtype of INFP is more like an ENFP because they have stronger Ne than other INFPs. So considering that Andre Gregory would clearly be a creative subtype of whatever type he is, I do think there's a possibility he might be an INFP rather than an ENFP.
@@lauraschleifer4721 As far as Wallace Shawn goes, we only considered INFP because of specific moments in the film. On average, he seems clearly ISTJ. It was worth bringing up INFP as a possibility just to address it and say why we thought ISTJ instead. I think he's actually at his most INFP at the very beginning of the film when he's talking about his childhood and how he always thought about art and music, though of course we didn't show that, but that probably just means Creative ISTJ when compared to everything else he says.
INFPs talk about their feelings more than ideas (though obviously they can do both). That Fi is introverted just means they are a bit less forthcoming about it, but once they get going it's easy to see. With Andre, he just seems to be dominating this whole conversation and letting his ideas get ahead of him rather than impose some order on them with introverted judgement- I think that's why he wanted Wally there in the first place, to have someone who can help him make sense of all the ideas and experiences he's having.
INFP-C is certainly possible, but I think Andre is just a bit too adventurous and focused on externalities, experiences and freedom over his own feelings, and his fears of where society is going sound more like EP fears of everyone being trapped by routine and comfort, which are usually things that INFPs are more okay with as their tertiary Si kicks in in our experience.
possibly because the Ne goes forward, while the Si goes backwards in the INFP (Fi Ne Si Te) so they are very flexible going either way - Ne and Si
