me and my best friend we found spectrum 48k in a skip repaired it had years fun out of it, sadly last year his parents pased away he found same spectrum in the loft, amazed they had kept it. even more amazing it still worked, brought back so many memories us playing it and his dad vor mum bringing us cup tea and a snack.

Wish I had my original machine. I have plenty of other C64s including a C64 reloaded 2.0 based unit and the Ultimate 64 which is great. The most important thing is to not use the original power brick, or at least not without a protection cable which stops over-voltage. Those old power bricks will fail and take most of the chips with it.

Found some info on that extra loose cable, connected to the tape desk. It’s based on someone else’s fact/guess work. But it sound wright?! Hope it helps: The bare wire extending from the plug end of the datasette cord is a grounding connection for the "shield" of the datasette cable.
Whilst I have no fact to base this on, I'm sort of convinced that at some point in the datasette development there was found to be RFI either effecting or coming from the datasette, and the designers solution was to ground the shield to the C64/PET/VIC whatever.
I'm also convinced that after they developed the datasette unit further, the RFI issues were solved, but that the grounding "wire" remained. Also why did you sell ALL your games? You still gonna look to test a game on it some day? Lastly. Do you think we see a SYSTEM 3 Collection for Evercade? c64 or Amiga?! 🤔

Lol great info mate. Honestly that odd wire has always confused me. I sold everything to basically fund other stuff. It was unused up the loft.. sometimes wished I hadn't but needs must.. I had a ridiculous collection of games from so many systems.. but money was tight so they had to go. And yeah I think we will see system 3 on Evercade. Probably Amiga.

Why was the later Commodore 64 model bigger than the earlier Commodore 64 model ?

There were 3 different designs as far as I can tell. This version is the C64C.. think the insides had been completed redesigned with lots of different components used or added in comparison to the original C64. Not quite like these days we're we get a slim version of a console.

@@CrazyBurger People have said the version like you have looks more professional than the earlier one some people even said the later ones lasted longer.

Why did you sell off your games John 🤔

    • @CrazyBurger

Madness. Honestly, different circumstances, different times. Initially I sold a lot of stuff back in 2005 to help pay for my wedding.. other stuff been sold through different times to help buy new consoles such as PS4, Xbox series X etc. I dont really regret it, needed the money, didn't have the space for everything.

@@CrazyBurger Retro Gaming didn't really exist back then. Who would've guessed 😀
10 years ago I chucked a whole bunch of original Zzapp 64 magazines away but kept my Viz magazines. Should've been the other way round 😢😢
