Oh, I'm looking for a job in the medical team in a cruise ship, but I'm from Venezuela, would you mind sharing if you hire people of specific countries for the medical team?
@@sakurikitty I dont know about countries. I do know the medical staff is usually very small. Even on the largest ships, most likely less than 10 in total. Between the doctors, nurses and other medical staff. It maybe easier to look at more common departments to get started with, and work into medical if thats what you wish.
The comment at 5:30ish about not leaving the life because of fear of not being good enough elsewhere, is one that has also kept many people in the military!
The comment…deep-seated fear that I’m not good enough to do something else… Whatever career path you’re on, at some level, this is very relatable. Thank you for posting that!
I did spend a lot of time on ships (different ones: research vessels) and I find a lot similarities. You really get to know someone much better during a month of a cruise than during a year working with them on land. And yes, all kind of relationships. Actually I think there are more of them on ships than in most other work places.
Recommending therapy is really great. So undervalued. Also congrats on the relationship! You make us so happy so it's awesome to see you happy as well!
Very well documented video about living and working on cruiseships as I worked on ships for about 16 years. I have seen many documentaries of what it is like to work on ships and they created a very negative stigma or a false wonderland. It was really nice that you interviewed crew as well, because they are hardest working and most respectful people that I have worked with in the world. I look forward to seeing more video's from you!!
If it fits your vision, it would be really valuable to learn from you about what it’s like to work on a cruise ship while having a partner on/off the ship. Working on a cruise ship is a bucket list item for me, but now I’m married and I can’t fathom choosing to be separated for months. Can spouses stay on board? If not, how do you personally make it work with your boyfriend? I’d love to know your take on this! 😊
“ because i have a deep seeded fear that im not good enough to do anything else “ 😭 😂 nah you ain’t lying. I just decided to become a electrician but I’m thinking what he’s thinking all the times so i stay as a janitor ( rn ) 😢
We need more people like Alley in the world!!😊 Love your positivity, I’ve been sailing on RCL ever since I was a baby, and am almost Diamnond Plus now, the crew is what makes RCL so great so a big thank you to you and everyone else who works on these ships 😊😊
I love that your sponsor is Better Help. I appreciated that you, who seems so happy go lucky, also face the reality of the ups and downs of life. You seem so genuine. Safe travels!
Thanks, Alley! It is always awesome to get some insight into things that are interesting but kinda veiled from the public eye :) I know that a lot of us here appreciate these kinds of videos :)
Alley! Juan here. I’m getting on board soon, first contract. Your content has been the best I’ve watched on UA-cam ! Very Informative ! Thank you, legend ! Cheers .
Also, with regard to pay, you have to remember that the “compensation plan” for a cruise ship employee looks a bit different than it does for a land-based employee, namely that food and housing are factored in as well to some extent. While I may make about $2k per month after deductions, I have to pay for my own housing out of that, whereas that cruise employee making $500 a month has that cost already deducted. Think of it like apartment hunting: one place I looked at in college said $450 a month plus utilities, while another said $750 a month inclusive. But the $750 a month place also covered utilities, bus pass, and came FULLY FURNISHED. The cost trade off was more than worth it, because it meant that was one less thing I had to consider while living there.
The last expectation reminded me of being on a college crew team. While it's not the same as being on a cruise ship, you're still training and competing together most of the time and everyone knows everyone else's business. You definitely can't hide a relationship if you're dating a teammate.
I never intend on working on a ship (mainly because I get easily sea sick), but it's still fascinating to watch stuff like this. On a side note, this video is very well made, the production values are excellent, the presenter is very engaging, and it's presented in an easy to digest way.
Your a delightful person Alley!! Never let anyone get you down, your first instincts were correct!!! Thankyou for sharing. There are lots of fish in the sea and cruise companies, get em Alley 🎉
Excellent video, Alley! You really hit a lot of questions I have about this lifestyle, and your video skills are quite good here. Well done! Thanks for preparing this. - Mark O
I was just randomly searching for videos about life on cruise ships. This was great. Good work 'Better help' sounds really interesting as well. I clicked. Thanks.
This is a really great video, Alley. I'm super-impressed--it's very polished and really well produced. Interesting topic, good scripting, great editing, excellent accessibility with your interviewing (Officer Ducky will be jealous). You even solved your lighting situation. Thank you for sharing. How long does it take for you to create a long-form video like this one? Do you have process that you follow?
thank you! The hardest part for this one was finding people to interview 😅 I was asking people from all over the ship but time off didn’t always align. I first started working on this one 2-3 weeks ago I think 🤔
RC staff is the best! You all made my trip such a marvelous one of a kind experience 😊. Went on my first cruise last year and the itinerary changed so I was bummed at first but once on the ship most of the staff was sooo amazing and friendly and made my entire stay so memorable and personable ❤❤❤
Working on a Ship, any Ship is lots of work! I was in the Navy, so I worked on a Ship. Remember, a Cruise Ship is a Hotel, and Hospitality is very busy and lots of work. You do travel, but depending on your job abroad, you may not get to leave at port. I looked into working on a Cruise many years ago. I was offered a 6 month contract. Rate of pay was based on what your Job and Experience is. If you’re Single and Young, I found it better. If you have a family, maybe not, you could be away for a while. If you’re claustrophobic, maybe not. The cabins are very small. Thank You Alley for this video, you are amazing 😎👍
It’s all in the mindset… The repetitive routine… Pay depends = USD Forex… Depends also, Luxury vs Mass Passenger… World cruise vs routines island cruise…
(Former cruise line employee) make friends with the shore-ex manager and if you hang out with them in port, it’s usually not a problem to be the last couple people back onboard the ship before it sets sail… they have radio communication with the bridge and security and can let them know that you’re “in line” to get back on the ship with them, and they have to make sure all shore excursions are back before they can board the ship.
I worked in the shoreside hq for a cruise company back in 1999-2001. I’ll never forget meeting with the ships doctor when I first started and asked about their biggest challenge. His response was “Its almost impossible to keep condoms in stock.” At the time they gave them out free to crew members. Ran out constantly. Ship/Dorm life, I guess.
This is a great video with some great information. Thanks to your crewmates for being open and honest. When we cruise, I always ask the stateroom attendant to if they can get off the ship with many saying no. I hope you interview more folks from the different department. It's great to hear their perspective of working on a cruise ship. Thank for sponsoring Better Help. That's good for someone who is struggling. Looking forward to your next video.

I did ntice that. Nice touch.
I believe a lot of people feel that way.
Why? We are all human beings and not where we come from. Why does it matter stating where everyone hails from?

Royal Caribbean 15 years ago for restaurants, bars and several others, was clear in the contract "50 dollars" per month and you had to pursue salary by tips, only after some administrative pressure from some form of informal union. So if this is still on it is not fair that this is not covered in the video.
