In Vietnam culture, we believe in destiny. God has planned our lives. We must go through what God has planned. Maybe that’s the way to say accepting what’ s going on at the present and looking forward to the better future. We all are feeling the same as you at some point of our lives. Think positively and enjoy life while you can.
Aye!!! That’s the goal, for some reason my “working on a cruise ship || day in Scotland” video didn’t get any action but you should check that one out! I think you’ll dig it :) cheers 谢谢你
Love this Josh. Cruise life is so hard to explain to people. I decided to step away from it for all of the reasons you talked about but I must say the transition is hard. I often wonder if one day I’ll be back. So much of it I miss, especially the sunsets. It’s a peace that you can’t explain. Anyway, love your videos and I miss you buddy! Keep them coming & may God continue to bless you and keep you safe.
It’s so good to see you comment again. I hope you are also doing well. It’s an interesting life isn’t it? I’ve told myself every time I’m on a contract it would be my last but it never ends up being the last one. You can’t really describe ship live can you? That’s why I’m going to document it until the rest of my contract. It’s just something that must be lived to truly understand. It has its highs and lows and if you do it long enough transitioning back to land is almost impossible. I’ve taken very long breaks but it’s always called me back. I definitely am at peace when I see the sunsets out here. May God Bless you as well!
Thank you so much Ana! I am so happy you enjoyed the video! I know you can relate to the experience so it’s good to have you chime in! It’s an interesting life!

One day at a time brother, Mike! I appreciate your support and actually my very first time to Vietnam was working on a cruise ship. If it wasn’t for my job I never would’ve fell in love with your motherland!

Thank you so much for your kind words, I’m so glad you like the video. It’s definitely an interesting experience and one that I feel good about sharing with the world as I know a lot of people are curious about this lifestyle. I will have a new video up in a few days!
I think it’s important to explain how different being a guest entertainer is versus the more “normal” ship jobs. As a former waiter turned golf pro/shore excursion turned deck officer, I can honestly say I NEVER feel lonely. In fact, I have to make sure I prioritize taking time for myself when able.
That’s great to hear Chris, I can’t really speak for your position or anyone else’s so maybe you should make a video yourself and talk about it :) I used to be crew/showband on Carnival so it was still an entertainer position but crew based so I was definitely more involved but being a guest entertainer is different. We have totally different roles and jobs but I’m sure from where you’re constantly engaged with people you’re never lonely! Hope all is well!
I enjoy watching your videos. I had a dream once to work on a cruise ship. I found out that my family was so much more important than my desires. I wish you the best on your journey….remember, life is short.
Hey Doug, Your comment really hit home as I’m at home spending time with my family right now. The older I’ve gotten the more I realize how important my family is and how fast the years fly by. I have unfortunately missed a lot of really important moments and holidays due to my sacrifices but have also made memories and stories that could be in a book. Nothing in life comes without its ups and downs and sacrifices though does it? Once again, I appreciate this comment. Makes me think a bit deeper. Wishing you the best as well, Doug ❤️
Josh: Thanks for taking the time to share your life with all of us. I am also a solo cruiser (most of the time) I've cruised many times on different lines including HAL. I'm Elite on Princess and for now seem to be cruising more on NCL. I will say that Carnival has never been on my list of cruise lines to sail on. I do a lot of research especially when taking a new ship but the reviews I get from Cruise Critic regarding Carnival are never favorable. The price point is very inexpensive but the average cruiser seem to be "cheap" as well. All the fights and all the children drive me to a more relaxed cruise experience. HAL has been my second most cruised company I love them and will be coming back soon for a Hawaii cruise from San Diego. My next trip is on the NCL Epic. Something very new and reviews were mixed at best but NCL has not done me wrong yet so as they say: "Columbus took a chance". Stay well and I will keep an eye out for the next chapter of your adventure.
Hey Ben, Thanks for your comment! Carnival definitely has a different crowd. It’s more party eccentric for sure which is why they’re labeled the “fun ship.” I also enjoy sailing with HAL more than Carnival but I will say working as crew for Carnival is more fun than HAL, it’s just the perks aren’t as good. Better crew life in my opinion. With that being said, I have seen some wild things on Carnival lol. It’s funny to me that carnival corporation also owns a Holland America and Princess so they are all under the same umbrella. I’m going to be posting more about this! Thanks again Ben!
Broo 6:46 i am joining MSC very soon when i was doing my STCW they were showing us vedios of the Costa Concordia, how it was swallowed by the ocean. So when you said the ship can be swallowed by the ocean i swear to God i felt that line, sometime or now since i now have my joining date i am consistently asking myself what have I signed up for, its scary.
Lmao just speaking the truth my guy! The ships look massive when in port but when you’re in the middle of the ocean it’s literally a canoe! I docked next to a Costa ship today in Norway and it was the first thing to come to my mind! I’ve never really been scared out here but to think that it has happened before is always in the back of your mind! I appreciate your comment brother and I hope you enjoy your contract on MSC!
Take your STCW training seriously! The better you can do your safety jobs, the safer you and your passengers will be. Don’t take anything safety related for granted. If you do this, you’ll be okay. Keep a positive vibe and try to brush off the challenging aspects about ship life. You’ll have a good time.

Man, you literally have one of the best, if not best jobs with best living conditions there and pay/work scale. What should people working 12-13 hour shifts every day in security, maintenance, food/beverages say...
Hey Slogirana! Thanks for the comment! So when I first started ships in 2017 with Carnival I had the EXACT same living conditions as everyone else. I lived in a closet space on B deck with another crew member for 7-8 months at a time. I made $2700 a month doing every guest safety briefing, drill, just ask etc etc that all the other crew members were doing as well as my slotted work time 6 days a week. I knew bartenders and servers that were tripling my salary out there from Serbia and other countries where they pay no tax and take home substantially more than me to a country where things cost substantially less. My living conditions were absolutely horrendous, black mold in the shower, roommate from a different department with terrible hygiene etc etc. It was definitely no walk in the park and regardless of my job and pay scale the same mental problems plague all of us out here. If you watched the full Vlog you heard me say that my conditions and everything is a lot better now than what it once was! Also, people love to knock entertainment when they complain but if we’re truly being honest, without entertainment these ships are floating hotels. The people in security, maintenance, food and beverage, housekeeping etc work longer, more grueling hours but didn’t grind for 15 years to be an adequate musician/dancer/singer/performer. I signed my contract, they signed their contract. If you watched my new vlog, you’ll see where I ask my friend who is a dishwasher from India if he likes his work and he says he loves it. Most of these people are extremely grateful for their pay and job regardless of the long hours. It allows them to send money home and take care of their families. Your points are valid now with my status on Holland but it definitely hasn’t always been that way. Every job has its ups and downs out here. Thanks again Slog! If you work on ships I hope you’re well!
@joshbetravelin I didn't mean anything bad by my comment. Don't get me wrong, just compared your situation with other's situations. You're doing well. I'm a bit younger than you, 28.
