My Democracy Officer personally recommended that I review this old war footage. He said that it will surely give us the leg up if we are to battle for freedom once again with this futuristic foe, and I agree with him wholeheartedly. For Liberty! For Democracy! For Super Earth!
For HD2 players trying to scout info on the future faction, here is a brief summary of their HD1 characteristics: The main threats are input inversion effects and wall generation. Input inversion is exactly what you think it is, and impact both movement, aim and stratagem inputs. All elite units can do that, either via projectiles (those can be destroyed by damaging them) or AoE centered on the emitter. SH-20 bubble shield is a counter to that, as it protects from any control while active. The spherical units are called Obelisks, and do nothing but generate and maintain a wall of force. They can do only one at a time and expose their vulnerable core when doing so, but the wall one shots everything when generated, Illuminates can pass through them, and Obelisks spawn in hordes in highest difficulties, so you can stay locked within the walls. Usual strategies against them are lobbed trajectory weaponry to shoot above the walls and LIFT Jump Pack to escape them. Other units are snipers, invisible melee attackers, melee attackers with dodging and slowing projectiles, drone patrollers with shields and inversion AoE at high difficulty, and the basic infantry is a tripod tank with shield and short range electric attacks. As you have noticed, a lot of them are shielded, which protects them from one-shots and controls. On the other hand, they have no heavily armored units except the Obelisks when closed.
@@cashriney369 Theres also a ministry of truth notice saying that 'supposed illuminate sightings' are to be considered lies by traitors or something. So the game hints that they might not be eradicated too

From what I’ve heard, the illuminates were exiled and had their tech taken away from them And with the leaks that just came out, it seems to be even more true, all the enemies look far cruder than what we see here, almost looking like the covenants
the cyborgs created the automatons (calling them their children), but didnt become them; and the automatons are in fact likely trying to free their creators that are currently busy doing slave work in the mines of cyberstan. The bugs were genetically modified by super-earth to try and make them even better at being harvested for oil, so their evolution, estecially how fast they breed, seems like its due to super earth's meddling as for the illuminates... we will have to wait and see, but they used to be a fairly peaceful specie (note how their two stongest units are mainly non-lethal, with one meant to restrict movement by creating energy walls and the other to confuse their opponent (mind manipulation, in game they invert your controls temporarily if they hit you), but I bet that we will see them far more militarized now, which is a scary prospect considering their technology level and the extra century since the first game (though a lot of their secrets have been stolen by super-earth)

I'm gonna hate fighting these so fucking much in hd2, they were my least favorite to fight in hd1 to where I actively avoided playing missions with them.
I'm not sure I follow the logic that if the orb is similar in both games, then the other game somehow is harder? Anyway, from what I've seen and talked with veterans of both, everything points to HD2 being clearly easier.
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” ― Sun Tzu, The Art of War
What made Illuminates interesting for me was that anti-tank was not required at all, instead majority of their units had shields which performed well against high damage slow firing weapons. They work like the shield generator backpacks. The obelisks (the armored orb-like enemy) generated walls that other Illuminate could fire and move through but blocked your fire and movement. (using Jump Packs was a common way to counter these) By far the biggest threat though was the Illuminate council members who would fire an orb that inverted your controls and stratagem inputs if it hit you. You could however shoot down the orb. I'm really curious how they'll behave in HD2, and Im looking forward to a faction that manages to remain challenging while not requiring insane amounts of anti-tank like the bugs. Edit: The Illuminate didn't have too many ranged units either as you can see in the video, only the council members and beam snipers fire projectiles. A good chunk of the Illuminate are the tri-pod walkers that electrocute you and the cloaked outcasts that dash toward you. It'll be a nice mix of the swarming melee units of the bugs combined with some of the suppressive fire of the automatons.
None of the races require anti-tank, I have shown this by soloing high level RS for both the Cyborgs and Bugs without any anti-tank. Granted it's a lot harder, but not an absolute must. I get what you mean though, but if we consider difficulties 13-15, I'd say the Illuminates probably "require" most anti-tank only because they can pose the biggest threat. The Bugs are countered by pretty much everything and are too easy anyway, and the Cyborgs are easier to run away from. The Illuminates can make that harder due to teleporting enemies and huge swarms of fast units. In-game people almost always bring anti-tank to Illuminates 13-15, yet that's where most of the mission failures happen. Also the Council Member orb doesn't invert your controls, it deals damage and often just insta-kills you. The CM AoE attack inverts your controls. It's the Illusionist orbs that reverse controls, but they are far less threatening than the CMs. For the ranged attacks, you forgot the Obelisk. Those walls can sometimes form up so that they are really hard to dodge, especially if they come from Obelisks that are out of the screen.
I suppose in HD2 it'd be cool if the experimental energy weapons are great at taking down their shields and the you can shred them however you want. I'd be getting Halo ODST vibes too
