Hasbro Or 3rd Party? Who Did CHUG Menasor Better, And Cheaper??? | #transformers Legacy Menasor
Dr. Lockdown video: • Legacy Evolution Break...
I have a love hate relationship for combiners what I love about it is it’s satisfying to put together but what I hate about it is how expensive it is
That's why we should get more legends scale combiners
@@kociarzultimate384 like Bruticus ~ I want them in RID 2001 Artic Camo colors and the 2000 CR colors too to pair up with Scourge / Black Convoy xD
@@kociarzultimate384 Sadly, Legends scale is increasing in price.
Newage Devastator can go for $300. :(
@@sssentertainment I just hope Hasbro will do it then, I mean G1 toy was similar size and they are already designed to combine, so it might play out better than Volcanicus, also, why only Devastator, he is not the apex of combiners
@@kociarzultimate384 Hasbro released the combining Dinobots (Transformers Legacy) that are Core Class, which is essentially similar to Legends scale.
I'm down for more Legends/Core combiners from Hasbor/Takara.
"Solid and sturdy"
My Legacy Motormaster would be laughing if his shoulder wasn't broken.
That's rough, man. Shame you had to deal with that.
@@Alcastar607 I have a replacement now.
Probably laughed too hard
The Menasor transforming part when you watch Emgo is pure gold lmao
One thing that bugs me about Legacy Menasor is that they specifically made the leg joint connections so you can't turn them around if you preferred the cars facing front. They basically went with a variant of the combiner wars connection but then made a change that puts in the limitation. Add in the big tower that gets excluded from the combined form and it really seemed like something went weird during the design phase. I do like that Dragstrip's spoiler can kinda be moved to look like brass knuckles for that arm though.
They designed him with the original version of him in mind. In the g1 cartoon dead end and breakdown are faced backwards so I see nothing wrong with him in that regard
@@johnb.8977 They could've done the same thing without making it so that it only worked in one direction. I get that he's meant to be G1 but they specifically redesigned the limb connection so that they're one way. I mean, you can still attach Combiner Wars legs in their place which shows that they didn't need to do it that way.
Based purely on aesthetics, the 3rd party rainbow warriors can get in the bin. 😅 Not my cup of tea combined, individual bots or alt modes.
@@shinzero0271 People didn't like it when Combiner Wars officially turned the legs around (showing the vehicles in front of the legs) so the combiners could have knee articulation. You saw dudes display CW/UW combiners with their legs backwards (vehicle parts behind the legs) as a consequence.
Now people are doing the opposite with Legacy Menasor, and I'm not sure if people are just being contrarians or something.
@@ffnbbq It really just depends on people's preferences. My complaint is that they took away the ability to really choose which way you prefer.
I love that your parents have some interest in your hobby with their video cameos. Wholesome.
You know with things like the unicron debate along with the masterpiece scale figures
I feel like this is one of those times where an official figure comes out on top, because it is cheaper and has better solidity
This comparison honestly kind of feels the exact opposite of the Unicron one. Here there isn't much of a size difference, Hasbro's is cheaper, is more stable, and kind of like how the main reason some went with Hasbro's version was mostly the size, the main reason to go with the Fransproject Menasor is the G2 colours.
@@grand_max66 And more than likely the Legacy Stunticons will come out in G2 colors too. They already did Dragstrip.
well there's an 8 year gap so obvious Hasbro has learned much, even preeeeeeeeetty sure they would have analyzed the FP ver. too when designing theirs. Keep in mind that the FP ver. was more akin to the Superlink / Energon designs that were G1 homages and not actual G1 per se
The FansProject leg bots are based on the IDW Menasor. The leg bots are designed to be pointing down with the trunk portions tilted forward. This uses their exhaust weapons as in the comic. Good video as always thank you.
P.S. I've owned the original run FP Menasor since day one and have never had any major deterioration issues. Yeah the ball joint ankles are a pain and the Motormaster legs are challenging.
yeah got mine back in 2014 as well and has been good to me since then ~ DS is annoying to transform while keeping the windshield in mind but other than that it's a great team !
I see this and can't believe how much they go down :( The original one work much better.
Breakdown gang Breakdown gang Breakdown gang Breakdown gang
Lmao emgo is my go to for transformations too 😅 because sheepwielder says we have class!
Great video as always man!
I am going to say this. Hasbro wins in this case because It is technically optional to buy the full team. Considering motormaster Comes with all the Combination parts so....id rather buy Motor master and pick up the rest of the team at a later date. Then have to spend 400+ dollars on a full team that is arguably "better". So good work hasbro
Its just, the fansproject one, they all just look… off, too skinny, except for breakdown but i still prefer legacy
I love how your family supports your hobby rather than taking a shit on it. Cudos to them
oh yes BIG kudos !!!!
I would still choose official than third party cause tbh not a lot of third party transformers have good qc BUT I’m not saying that the official’s qc is good and it’s just cheaper in general🤷♂️
There's frustrated, and then there's "Fuck this, I'm going to *look up someone else's how-to video on camera* " frustrated.
hasbro revisting combiners is really exciting, and I'm hoping they make a new devastator soon (as a box set or a bunch of single releases, I don't care which), as the quality of figures, especially in articulation, has greatly improved inbetween the CW devastator and modern day figures.
I’m hoping for them to be done on SS86 since the SS team did such a good job with the Bay constructicons
I finally own the SS devastator (with some knockoff version since some are sold out) I gotta say, he's pretty good but the upgrade kit would make him better but it's too damn expensive for me
If they do I hope they release the Unite Warriors set in the US with some retooling to fix a little more. The Unite Warriors version is what I own and it is SO nice.
I want a Devastator in the SS86 line, considering how active the Constructicons were in the 1986 movie.
@@dkkanofkash8798ohhhhhhh, that’d be sick!
that 3rd party motormaster looks like the silver bolt mold
When he type Emgo for help LMAOF.
Just going add this as a separate comment, I have the DNA upgrade kit for Legacy Menasor, and MAAAN does it make a difference. I heavily recommend it if you have the bucks and feel like you want your Menasor to be nearly at perfection. One of their better kits in recent time.
You need to get the upgrade kit for legacy! It makes him so much better!
Honestly I am not sure if I might be a minority, but I genuinely prefer the Legacy one looks wise. It is likely do to me just likeing the more simplistic designs, but I just prefer them.
Its so crazy seeing Fans project Menasor in g2 colors after it just being Wild Rider for what feels like forever
I think they just released the final piece; Motormaster this year ? they were planning it for 2021 and 2020 but lockdowns set things back a bit. I've seen people with the other 4 cars in G2 colors since 2016 and they've been waiting for the final piece since then @_@ FP may have gone bankrupt and died out so someone else took over the production of MM if I'm not wrong
That third party looks so frustrating, I had something similar not long ago with Trojan Horse's Waspinator. Same thing, it looks really cool, but that's all it has going for it, the transformation is a shellforming with nothing staying in place even if its life depended on it, half the joints are too loose and the rest is too stiff. That was my first 3rd party and likely my last, especially after seeing this video if it shows a regular trend like that in them. They look awesome, sure, but I still want quality for my money, especially if it's way more expensive than the official stuff
it was the best Menasor we had since 2013, until the legacy version came out :O if you want comic / futuristic accuracy go for the FP, if you want G1 accuracy go for Legacy ~
@@Noizemaze4if you want G1 accurate go for Magic Square. Sure it's legends scale but it's still the most G1 accurate version of Menasor we have and there is a larger one out there via a knock off company
@@SwedishGundam nah I actually don't like the G1 aesthetics of Legacy, I only bought the set cuz I LOVE it's engineering feat >_> FP on the other hand is almost the opposite; while the engineering was GREAT at the time (like 10 years ago) it's a biiiit lackluster now, just a bit. However the design is a BANGER with updated modern looks for all the G1 guys and are great to look at !_! Which is why half of my G1 - esque toys are CHUG and the ones that are not released in those format I default to legacy >_>
This is exactly why I stopped buying 3rd party combiner figures. I had the TFC Toys Hercules and I couldn't do anything with it. It looked amazing but it was so top heavy and fiddly I just sold it and bought the Takara Unite Warriors Devastator and i is SO much nicer. I love me some Fansproject and bought a lot of their stuff but in general, I've sold off my 3rd Party figs and Fansproject upgrade kits and I'm just going to stick to Hasbro stuff and some small upgrade kits. Even DNA is just missing the mark on their upgrades.
it depends on your preference, every party / company including hasbro has their OWN interpretation and handling on how everything needs to be done, and what to focus on :O
@@Noizemaze4 That's true, I just wish most of these 3rd Party companies focused on making their combiners be not top heavy messes, or fiddly fragile messes that explode if you look at them wrong. I've seen too many videos of people with 3rd Party pieces that are over priced, over designed and fall apart and I even owned some. I got rid of them because I got tired of no QC and no accountability for the over priced combiners they made, and while not perfect, the Unite Warriors Devastator blew the TFC Toys figure out of the water for a third of the price :O
I love Legacy Menasor, he was pretty much sold to me when he was first announced back when Legacy was first shown off via Dragstrip. I’d have to say that my favourite figure out of the set would have to be Motormaster, a clear upgrade from the CW one for sure. I’m just satisfied as a whole, hope for more CHUG combiners in the future!
yeah ............. I wasn't planning on gettin ANY of the team at all but ............. ended up doing so just because of how much I love this Motormaster T_T
I don't think they'll do reruns of the combiners. They did menasor because he's the one that needed the upgrade, but since they've done a selects version of abominus and Volcanicus. I don't see them upgrading the others. Superion is near perfection even without the upgrade kits, and besides they did a selects box set for pirranacon and God Neptune. The only two I see them redoing is Devastator and Predaking because of SS 86. I don't think Predaking was in the 1986 movie, I could be wrong though. Devastator is the only one I see them redoing because of SS 86 like I said
I had serious doubts about the Legacy one after the absolute train wreck that was the Combiner Wars one. Didn't feel the need to experience it to know how bad it was. Legacy though has super surprised me with its quality, simplicity and return to mostly G1 basics. I think I've bought more TFs in the last half year than the last 12. Never had a G1 Menasaur, but the Legacy iteration with Motor Master probably the most accurate we've seen him with a no fuss and stable combined mode is fast rising to the top of my list. Especially now that it's being rereleased with I imagine a lot of the QC issues improved. Dragstrip looks the most fun out of the bunch while others are essentially there to provide limbs for the big guy. Now I really want Legacy to bring back Brutucus as the idea of one Commander and four deluxe class seems to work out pretty well.
I agree. Though personally I'd rather see Superion first. And while I understand the whole "they don't really combine" criticism I can't say I agree with it either. While the idea of a proper "combiner" sounds fun Combiner Wars proved that it was hard to do and I'd rather have a stable fun to mess with combiner, rather than one I have to stand up on life support (heavy figure stand) then never touch again. So in other words I'm all for commander combiner frames. Also I highly recommend the DNA kit for Menasor. Makes him even better.
@@LaneBassingthwaite i believe they recently teased that Superion is next.
@@Lazrael32 YES!!!!
@@LaneBassingthwaite don't take it as fact they could change their mind. But it is a good possibility. especially since they can retool the same mold and it is the most popular Autobot combiner and the "enemy" of Menasor. (I was hoping for defensor myslef)
@@Lazrael32 If that comes true I will be a happy man but if they all feel similar to Menasor I'd probably try to go for them all. Defensor would be cool, as would Bruticus.
"So much stuff is comin' out!"
I think the Hasbro set is good for bot and vehicle modes except for what they did to Breakdown. Dragstrip is hands down the best as they finally did accurate bot and car modes. I have the original FP set with the DMY upgrade kit and I'm currently using that as my Menasor. I still have the CW and UW sets with the upgrade kits and thought about getting rid of them but I like the idea of having different versions of Transformers to compare and display together. I wish these 3rd party companies making Legends scale would do CHUG scale figures. I'm thinking they don't want to ruffle Hasbro's feathers so they don't. I'm currently trying to work on getting all my Combiners to work scale-wise with the Transformmission Menasor as it's too small for my MP collection. Quite a few of the older 3rd party Combiners are bigger than what Hasbro has offered except for their Devastator and Predaking.
Nice to see that he takes help from the legendary transformer toy review guy, ' THE FREEKING GEEK HIMSELF' Emgo
I finally have all the stunticons and I love them all, the only issue I have with menasor are the sword and his legs look kind of stumpy.
i wish more companies did CHUG scale/price but their own designs, i love the look of the fansproject stunticons and i'm getting bored of retreads of old stuff. but alas all 3p companies seem to just be doing legends or mp
One of the designers at MMC actually answered someone's question on why 3P stopped doing CHUG releases and it's because it was causing them to lose money. As by the time of 2018 Hasbro had done a poll in Europe asking fans why they collected 3P and started applying that to Siege and Earthrise. So now that Hasbro had basically killed 3P CHUG without even lifting a legal finger they moved on to the other main markets.
LOL- those days are long gone. Third party used to be geared towards supplementing Generations ect, but now virtually nothing is off the table for Hasbro to make (I recall someone at MMC saying Hasbro has that segment completely locked down). Some, like Mech Ideas, even tried quite hard to price figures like their IDW Ironfist st near Hasbro prices. Though I guess that's why they didn't make much else afterwards.
Plus, there's profit to be made for third parties in doing Masterpiece-like toys where they can charge whatever they like.
Gee I sure do love 20 second unskippable midroll ads
Menasor's my favorite combiner. I still have, and love Fansproject Intimidator, but, in my humble opinion, Legacy blows it out of the water. (As it should, considering it came out, what, ten years later?)
"Ten years later?"
No that's... that's impossible
@@grand_max66 almost, FP was 2013 ~ and Legacy set finished up in 2022 so 9 years :P
I have the G1 color scheme of the 3P set. I’m selling him ASAP lol. Legacy Menasor blows him out of the water. And even if you get the upgrade kit from DNA, it’s still more bang for your buck to go with Legacy.
It's a small detail, but I love how FansProject also decided to base the car modes on real cars. Their Dead End turns into a Ferrari FXX. Breakdown turns into a Lamborghini Reventon. Dragstrip turns into a Caparo T1, which is a F1 inspired, road legal race car. Lastly, Wildrider turns into what I think is supposed to be a Lamborghini Ankonian, an old concept car I stumbled across while trying to figure out what he might be.
YES !!! People always forget to mention this when talking about the designs :D that's why they look sssssssssssssssssuper cool !!!
The G1 gang are based on real cars you twit. Motormaster is a black Kenworth K100 Aerodyne sleeper truck with a long silver trailer. Dead End is a maroon Porsche 928. Dragstrip is a six wheel Formula 1 race car. Wildrider is a dark grey Ferrari 308 GTB. Finally Breakdown is a white Lamborghini Countach just like Sideswipe and Sunstreaker.
I got the toyhax stickers for the 4 deluxe Stunticons, and they look beyond great.
I'm just gonna get em for MM, the trailer, and the upgrade kit Dx the other ones are too much for me
I adore the Legacy Menasor. While I had my issues with distribution, and QA (f***ing Dead End will never be in bot mode because mine is so garbo) I love the combined mode.
He's solid, possible, wears the limbs well. Only thing that I will probably do at some point is buy him a bigger sword. But yeah easily my favorite.
Also he doesn't try to fall over constantly like my Devastater or God Fire Convoy.
Speaking of bad qa, my motormaster has two right thighs. Could not transform to torso mode as a result
@@DewlayLomo Ugh. That is awful, contact hasbro for a replacement. My Dead End just had every tab too tight, so could fix it myself.
I feel it's worth going through the headache to get Menasor completed.
@@DewlayLomo nooooo wayyyyyyyyyy @_@
if I recall, Baltmatrix never reviewed the torso for Fansproject Menasor for the mess it was and his dislike of it
The G2 Stunticons and the one-handed curse!
xD
The shoulder pads on Menasor crack? This is the first I’m hearing of this. What exactly should I be looking out for?
I got the DK-38 for menasor and I was able to use the extension for the trailer real well and it looks a bit better, tho there were parts I didn't change due to them not connecting. Also I use Breakdown's gun to make a faux smokestack for motormaster
I like the Hasbro version more than the 3rd party one. It looks solid and sturdier. I like the colors on the 3rd party one and designs are interesting. My only problem with the Hasbro version is finding them at retail. I would order them online, but their prices are inflated and by the time I complete the set, they will be just as expensive as the 3rd party one.
YUP, and if you wanna make it look "perfect" 3rd party parts from china and decals from Toyhax will set you back to the point where you're paying even MORE than the FP one, and the FP Menasor is almost perfect on it's own imo, the only add on parts it needs are the arm covers in combined form
I love IDW, I love IDW designs. Aside from the combine mode this is not one of those situations for me. While I do love the sleeker look of Fansproject I find the robots and even alt modes less distinctive and for that price it ain't worth it. The Legacy plus DNA kit that I own is amazing and still a far cheaper option. It's one where I can just flip between modes and pose to my hearts content as opposed to this Fansproject one where I'd pose it once, put it on a shelf and never touch it again.
Fansproject has points for using the IDW Phase 1 Stunticons designs but are hand grenades like the RG Zeta gundam and original MG Unicorns while Legacy is using the standard G1 designs and is build like a brick house
the fanstoys aesthetic is peak transformers look though
Perfect timing since hasbro just made another batch of motormaster I grabbed him for 89 instead of the 200$ the after market was asking
I was expecting the donkey to get headshot after laughing.
For me it was breakdown that was stuck on the leg, I just took a file to the pegs and now its fine
All that money spent and you didn't get breakdown's right hand.
A 26 minute long video from one of my favourite UA-camrs? Hells yeah! Bro really said he's 6 ft 3, must be something in the water over there 😂
It's cool you're going to TFNation, I've never been but am considering making the journey, just wondering the best way to get to Birmingham 🤔
I was lucky enough to get the fans project figures (minus Motor Master) at TFCon for $100. So the whole group only cost me ~$250. Glad I have them, but I do feel that they fumbled at the finish line due to QC.
I just ordered the last 2 for the Legacy set. I grew up on the G1 cartoon and I'm trying to collect the most G1 accurate figures I can find. Just got an amazing Optimus Prime yesterday. Can't wait to get Menasor together. I am also getting the upgrade kit for him.
I have an KO RotF Devastator and love it, the worst of them is Overload, his vehicle mode sucks but most of them look and feel really good and they have die cast pieces and all joints are screwed. I have a small G1 inspired Devy KO which is really good too
Fansproject wins by default as a combiner in my book because the limbbots actually *are* the limbs and not just accessories Motormaster wears on his sleeves and shins.
I mean... the original menasor was designed this way as well. So to me they get points for cartoon acuracy.
@@returnedtomonkey8886The G1 toy had the cars as actual limbs. Being accurate to the cartoon design isn't an automatic compliment when it's just a bad design.
Some people prefer the cartoon designs. A lot of the og toys suck
@@hyperdimensionbliss but the point of the newer toys is to be cartoon accurate but I do like the limb bots being more involved in the combiner but I think if they did that the limb bots robot mode would have been way worse in the end so I'm not that mad
Agreed. There’s also the fact that Fansproject looks *much* better. The aesthetics (and/or articulation) take priority over the handling for me, since it’s going to spend more time on my shelf than in my hands.
Why not use the Tigerwing slightly Upscale Magic Square Menasor set in this comparison of price/value? As with the Tigerwing set you can make either the G1 toy look or a toon accurate look. It requires a lil tightening of some spots. But its honestly a great lil set. Even with its issues I still recommend it.
I want to sell my FP Menasor, but my fingers hurt just watching this. Man, he was SO amazing when he came out, but wow, he did not age well. The remolding on the legs for the car connections is so weird!
Fans project looks like toy, hyper skinny wafe like toys, while legacy has that 80's giant robot feel I like so much...
You can plug the Fansproject Cars into the legs normally, you just have to pop out the trunk parts on both. It's how I have mine displayed.
Really love the G2 colors too. I'm gonna get the Hasbro one in G2 colors and keep the OG Fansproject one for G1 colors.
i've noticed he's using different coloured lights which looks awesome
17:54 the toy designers are so nice for including mints with their figures
Still hoping Superion will use a Sky-Lynx-size Silverbolt to unfold into a similar but less-bulky and less-visible armature (I.e. planes on the front of the legs)
i like the G1 astetic of the Legacy Menasor. he is alot more stable from what it looks like. i do not have the Fans Project one but i do have Legacy. it does have its drawbacks like his hands and feet. those feet SUCK! but over all looks better. i do wish that it came with a bigger sword and a rifle but there are upgrade kits i can get for that =) for a min there i thought you where going to throw the Fans Project across the room lolol great video.
I have the Hasbro menasaur, so I had the G1 version as a kid and loved him. Bought the upgrade kit and I have him on my display shelf.
Be careful with the little tabs in the back of legacy dragstrips legs. They can break.
I love how legacy brought back the P34 for dragstrip. It's amazing!!!!
The only aesthetic choice I don't like about FansProject's attempt was which figure they made Wildrider and which they made Dead End. They chose the forms of two Lamborghinis and a Ferrari, and yet made Dead End the Ferrari while Wildrider gets the curvy Lambo. (I know Dead End was a Porsche, but shape-wise I think the Ankonian is closer to a Porsche than the Ferrari.)
I don't yet have Motormaster, Wildrider, or Breakdown, but I plan on getting them because Motormaster is a truck
Also, fun fact: the "wind vein" is the aerodyne sleeper cab
Fans Project one is more colorful flamboyant girly style. Joking lolz 😂
I actually have both so I have some authority on this, it looks like ThatToyGuy actually got a relatively bad QC copy of the fansproject one, all the joints on mine aren't as bad (thought the combine mode foot likes to come off sometimes) there's some things I would like to clear up:
-The combine mode actually has TWO outwards shoulder joints
-I personally have no problems with the car legs going on, must be QC or g2 version problems
-He actually misstransformed the combiner legs, they actually do peg in securely when he mentions they're loose at 23:57
And another thing, I found if you actually bend out the panels slightly on their hinges, it's easier to attach the other half of the trailer in vehicle mode. And I'm surprised he didn't mention this but there is actually rubber (or atleast on the g1 colors version) on the bottom of the combine mode feet that helps him grip surfaces slightly better.
3rd party was good for when you wanted a Menasor, but didn't want the CW version because its posing was crap.
Legacy Menasor feels like an apology for the CW version, and feels a lot more stable and posable than any other Hasbro-released combiner released (excluding Devastator).
For combiners or any transformers toy, if you want to buy 3rd party i suggest you buy a figure from said 3rd party and feel the plastic quality (suggesting buy a figure you would like to own) gotta say, they don't feel like hasbro plastic. As a person who has 3rd party and hasbro, their feeling is different 3rd party plastic is decently sturdy but the feeling is closer to touching a gunpla but hasbro feels so different that it's hard to describe. The 3rd party almost feel like the generations toyline except doesn't feel as sturdy
I had the 1st release of the fansproject menasor. I got so frustrated with it that I threw the whole thing in the garbage.
haha xD
That Fan Toys Menasor, its transformation is similar to a "Beastbox".
The only thing that really bugs me about the legacy menasor is the lower legs.
Proportionally, they desperately need to be longer. Having the cars on the back is also weird, making the legs into grey blocks that try to hide the fact that it's a combiner. The cars also have to fold, which makes the feet weird and gives him this goofy bell bottom look.
If they had the card on the front, if they used the mass of the weird turret thing to make the shins longer, allowing the cars to fit un-folded, menasor could have looked so much cooler.
fansproyect is more like a statue but the hasbro one is more like a toy
yas, that is the right observation. I keep my fp one on display while legacy one is near my desk for me to play with
3:32 Idk if it's just me but there's a bit of a flash while the shot is on screen and it's kind of hard to watch.
Im suprised that fansproject didnt fix the qc issue on this re-run since this mold had really bad qc issue on there first run
I agree with so many points here, as it aligns with my own feelings about both sets of combiners.
As for the unnecessary ratchets in Diesel/Petrol's (aka Motormaster) waist, I removed them, and couldn't be happier. I chucked that needless ratchet to the ends of the ocean.
Why put a waist ratchet?
That's as silly as putting a ratchet on a tank turret. :/
I have the original release of M3 and apparently it is sturdier than the G2 version. I gotta say that I'm surprised to see that those tiny cars are the same size of the Legacy ones
Btw thanks because i thought i wasnt the only one who absolitely love emgo's review of the set
Just the Fact that we are still looking at and talking about the FP Menasor 10+ years later, Defaults it as a Classic and Clear Winner here.
Yes it is Not Perfect, but it was at the Forefront of 3rd Party, any Party at the time. Also its just looks so good in those G2 colors, not to say the G1 color Intimidator was not nice, it was spot on as well. Long live FP...
YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABSOULTELY AGREE !!!!! Legacy has great articulation and engineering update, but overall FP still knocks it out of the park for me !
the legacy one is more design to be like the cartoon look, thats why the bottom of the car panals are gray, to match with the cartoon
MotorMaster never showed up in my area, so I'm still looking.
DAAAAAMM the wait has surely been worth it!
Born in 1984, so I LEGIT grew up with G1 Transformers, and I have never cared liked or understood what people's fascination with the Stuntacons and Menosaur. The Combiner, and all the individual bots are just to weird for me.
I think the fans project version was from an era where the combiner were not perfected.
FP era of combiners ; had the looks, but not the playability. Combiner wars era ; had the playability, but looked like SHHHHHHHHHHTTTT. Now Legacy embodies and encompasses BOTH of those good traits ~ we've come a long way after almost 10 years ~
"Fansproject re-released..." Wait - they're still around? I get how you feel about Menasor. I do wish H would be a little more laxed on trying strictly adhere to an aesthetic of 30 year cartoon show that was drawn on a budget.
Fan Hobbies gun looks cool
Fans Project ~
I really love both sets and think they’re both awesome. Fansproject Motormaster is one of my favorite 3p figures ever and I prefer the combined mode of the Fansproject, but the Legacy versions are super chunky and solid and fun to play with. Be careful with Fansproject Breakdown’s gun when tabbing it into its vehicle mode storage. It’s the only piece of the Fansproject set I’ve had break on me during play since getting it.
I only have legacy drag strip and breakdown, and I could never find the rest of the stunticons in target.
For me, the only thing Fans Project really comes out in the lead with is the combined mode aesthetic. I hate the fact that, for the Legacy Menasor, 95% of it is just Motormaster's trailer. And yes, I know, they had to do that in order to make it as G1-accurate as possible, since in the cartoon the 'limbs' just attached to already pre-existing legs and arms. It just looks a lot better to me to actually have them _form_ the limbs instead of merely attaching to them. That's why I liked Combiner Wars, the combiner limbs were actual _limbs,_ and not just 'attachments'.
**EDIT** I posted this before I saw the whole video. The arms are the actual bots, while the legs are still made out of trailer parts and the cars just plug into them. So the Fans Project one only gets half credit and that, coupled with the price and the QC issues, make this a definite NOPE for me.
The fan project one is like transformers prime verse (of the designs)
You know what would fix combined mode on both versions? If the limbs were formed from the actual alt modes, look up the original Stunticons and tell me that's not better.
I… like my G2 combiner wars menasor well enough to not need the legacy one. Maybe hot take, but I prefer my combiners to… you know, combine, not make armor for their leader
No comparison, ANYTHING that resembles the 80's animated series for the WIN.
Each of the cars for fans project is $45(USD) and I got motor master for about 120 so in total, fans project is $300
Im still planning to make my own custom using the ROTF bruticus torso and a set of contructicon limbs, the cranes into dragstips and the dozers into breakdowns
My motormaster was yellowed. I contacted hasbro and basically, they didn't care.
If you want a good IDW Menacor, buy the Transform Mission one, although that's Mp sized, not chug. And don't buy the metallic one, it's cheaper because it's plagued with issues.
I see someone here is a person of culture based on their display icon ;)
@@Noizemaze4 well yes kind sir 🧐
Legacy Wildrider is $90 though...
yup, legacy is pretty expensive now that ppl who missed out on EB Games pre-orders are rushing to get it >.>
The g2 motormaster feels like he is made of far softer plastic than the original.
prob not, that's just how the color looks like >.> design has been there 1992 when they cancelled his G2 appearance
