Personal canon: The Stunticons were created from Autobot protoforms as dark mirrors to the Autobots Optimus Prime (Motormaster, formerly Nemesis Prime), Hot Rod (Wildrider), Arcee (Drag Strip), Skids (Breakdown) and Jazz (Dead End). They originally bore more of a resemblance to their genetic bases, but after exposure to the Enigma of Combination, they developed more individualized robot modes and their combined form of Menasor.
Honestly I loved that all the stunticons branched out in different directions makes them stand out more. That's why menasor is my favorite combiner because the individuals are just as memorable as the combiner maybe even more so

Not even a combiner with friggin Optimus Prime could wreck shop from the get go, instead being relagated to a four-bot beat up of Devestator, and then never seen again. Volcanicus got trashed in its very first media appearance. Computron's the most intelligent, but takes days to actually do anything. Defensor is constantly held back by the desire to protect humanity. Superion rarely gets a dominant victory over another combiner.
Can't decide between Wildrider and Dead End as my favorite. I guess I'll go with Dead End, I was a depressed kid in the 80's and while I didn't find any kinship with him, I did like the fact not all Transformers were upbeat or aggressive
One cool new origin story I have for them is this. What if they came from the Cybertron colony of Velocitron. As speed loving hooligans who join the Decepticons when the war begins. Sounds cool right?

The first time I was introduced to the Stunticons, was in the Transformers Devastation video game. So I knew very little about them until watching this video. Though there is one cutscene I remember that cracks me up: "No one defeats Menasor! RAAAAH! Must! Complete! Mission!"(tosses the farotaxis in the air) Bumblebee: I did not see that coming.
9:01 Seeing Menasor in Devastation, especially when Marius Urucu swapped his boss music out with Sonic Frontiers' 'Find Your Flame', is all kinds of rad.
It shouldn’t be too surprising how the Stunticons became the combiner team to break out as individuals more than the others. After all cars are the most common alt-modes and these are the Con car guys so it’s only inevitable that when a Generation needs a car Con why not make it a Deadend or a Breakdown. Plus as Masquerade shows us they can literally redeco Autobot into one of this lot. New Mirage figure? It’s a no-brainer to turn it into Drag Strip!
Some of the Stunticon names have also been used for completely unrelated to the group. Dead End was the name of the Minicon partner of Unicron from Transformers: Armada. Even Menasor was used for an individual character instead of a combiner, as the name of a Gigantion drill tank from Transformers: Cybertron.
Fun fact: Blackjack was originally a G1 Micromaster who was a member of the Sports Car Patrol, so he's not an entirely new character, just new to the Stunticon line-up.
At times the Decepticons only consisted of Jets, construction vehicles, cassette players and guns so it kinda of rare that Megatron would create a team of Four cars and Truck to do the mission that the Decepticons can't do
Congratulations, Chris. You deserve those 2,000 subs. The Stunticons are the most memorable of the combiners because each member has their own distinct personality. I wish the TF animated got a 4th season, because I would have loved to see the series incarnation of the Stunticons appear on screen.
And let's not all forget High Moon's Breakdown, Dragstrip, and Deadend; one of which was featured as a story character while the other two were available via custom creation in multiplayer mode. And, of course, Wildrider and Motormaster remained concepts only.
I remember a piece of fanfiction I read somewhere that the Stunticons wild natures meant Megatron would assign them a minder to keep them in line, so that's how I interpreted Blackjack when the Combiner Wars versions came out. And that their forming the chestplate was taking it a step further in that they served as a sort of "key" to allowing them to form Menasor. Sort of like how Ohno was Mighty Orbots' ignition key.
unfortunatelly, they went with white prime, and the black recolor was only for the japanese market. with how everyone in that set was a stunticon recolor, it would have seemed immediate for a special set
Great video once again. I always loved how Motormaster thought he was a match for Optimus Prime and tried to prove it over and over. Also didn't know until years later that the team could be any limb on Menasor or that they could be limbs for Superior!! What a wild concept Autobots and Deceptions able to merge on each other's combiner team.
They also could combine with the Protectobots, the Combaticons, the Terrorcons, the Technobots and the Seacons. The only Combiner groups who couldn't combine with others were the Constructions and the Predacons.
Hence why in Japan they named the wave "Scramble City." North America didn't lean into it, but as they were part of a cancelled "free Combine" line for Diaclone, Takara wanted to take advantage of the marketing and tech they made.
Even though I'm not particularly fond of the Stunticons, one of their best moments will always be Menasor one-shotting Bruticus, effectively taking away Starscream's victory. 😆
Absolutely love the Stunticons, specifically both Breakdown and Dragstrip. Great to get an updated figure of him last year, definitely puts the CW version to shame.
Congratulations on two hundred! Meanwhile, I think it was a good thing that the limbs on most combiners are interchangeable. Always having to be the foot isn't good for morale, which is probably even worse for these guys.
This is kinda why I'm conflicted about the latest Menasor toy. In some ways it's very impressive, but it abandons interchangeability. Heck, it's only optionally a combiner, with Motormaster forming the whole super-robot in a way that's more akin to Powermaster Prime.
@@originaluddite Yup, I've always loved the Scramble City idea from the original toys that Takara/Hasbro used for Unite Warriors/Combiner Wars. I've even picked up extra figures to make my own combiner teams someday with some customizing.
That sounds very cool. Combiner Wars was still one of the best 'play patterns' and I only wish they had presented it a bit more consistently. As for the original Scramble City concept, I love that I only have ten of those toys, across six teams, and yet have two full gestalts.

Breakdown was my favourite stunticons among all because of its coolest alt mode and colors Whereas for Earthspark Breakdown, he's totally a friend of Bumblebee in races, just like Velocitronian times. What makes him epic and emotional is that rather than just friends, races, and fun with him, he even sacrificed himself to save Bee from being captured by GHOST.
Fun Fact: Off-road was based on a preexisting Decepticon, Ruckus, whom Hasbro was originally was gonna have on the team for Combiner war but scrapped it in favor of an original character (I.e. Off-Road) partly dud to trademark issues, and partly due to executives feeling that Ruckus didn’t fit in with the Stunticons anyways.
I remember the toy line for Transformers Prime had a solo Dead End figure that was a repaint of Wheeljack’s that made him into a spark-hungry vampire, and the first bayverse movie comic made him into a zombie that ripped the parts of other transformers off in order to repair his body, broken from experimentation. Yeesh.
I love the G1 idea that the Stunticons' insane durability was because they were fitted with forcefield generators that enhanced the Earth materials that they were made with. I don't know why that always stuck with me, but it does explain why they're always able to smash up Autobots without sustaining damage to themselves. Thanks for posting!
Structural forcefields and magnetic/gravity manipulation was the toons easy explaination for the Stunticons being able to do the stunts and collisions they did, and made them stand out against their Autobot counterparts. Sure you had a few that could do neat car tricks, but none dedicated to it like the Stunticons were.
So a funny thing about the botcon 2011 set... It was the middle of the night 3:00 a.m. Eastern midnight Pacific... And Derrick j. Wyatt had posted on Twitter that he needed to see the back of motor masters head... I tweeted back to him. Give me about 5 minutes, 5 minutes later. I sent him a picture of the back of G1 motormaster's head. The next thing I knew we got a preview of the stunticon job animated figure's from botcon 2011! Great episode of the basics as always. Chris! I miss Derrick so much. Still we all do.
Rumble was the one who inspired Megatron to name the Stunticons after they made a demonstration of their powers. Now, the only 80's Combiner team left to cover are the Technobots.
The Stunticons are my 3rd favorite combiner team after the Combaticons and the Aerialbots. They're status as Decepticon road vehicles and the sword-wielding of Menasor are pretty darn awesome and I plan to feature them in my fanfiction as part of a unit led by Scorponok. Those Animated toys are Drag Strip being a recolor of Arcee, Dead End recolored from Jazz, Breakdown from Rodimus Prime, Wildrider from Lockdown, and Motormaster a retool and recolor of Optimus Prime surprisingly. My favorite member is Drag Strip I also love that episode of G1 when Optimus Prime, Mirage, Jazz, Sideswipe and Windcharger tried to impersonate the Stunticons only to be ratted out when Megatron asked them to combine into Menasor. That was pretty funny!
Their appearance in Devastation was awesome, fighting Motormaster one-on-one and then Menasor, and then Menasor's surprise return in the final battle against Devastator where you had to face both at once. Breakdown was also great in War for Cybertron, with some of the best lines and reactions from Megatron.
I once made up a story about the Stunticons, but they were actually classic Decepticons in new bodies. Megatron = Motormaster, Starscream was Drag Strip, Soundwave was Breakdown, Frenzy was Wildrider, and Thundercracker was Dead End. In response, the Autobots made the Airialbots. Optimus Prime was supposed to be Silverbolt, but I didn't finish the story, so I can't say how it would have ended.
Wonderful imagination. It’s funny with our differences we’re still able to have so much in common. In my reimagined cerebral episodes, I made Soundwave a version of Optimus Prime. I would mis-transform Soundwave to resemble a semi. My made up story was a little complex. I always believed because of Soundwave’s loyalty and devotion to Megatron that there was actually some good in him. So, I imagined he strayed away and tried to do good. Because he was so conflicted he didn’t join the Autobots, he just took on the form of Prime’s alt mode and did good deeds so he wouldn’t be recognized by anyone. I could go on for ever about these little episodes I’d create in my head as a kid. Thank you for reminding me.
I do love those wild G2 colors. I also include RotF Oil Pan since he is a redeco of Breakdown, as well as Speed Stars Wreckloose and Hunt for the Decepticons Override to my headcanon.
A lot of these offshoots would make good alternate names if they do more G2 recolors like they did Drag Strip/Shadowstripe. Wreckloose, a play on reckless, is a very appropriate Stunticon name.

Research by the police led to their conclusion that I was hit by the car who drove between 90 and 100km an hour = 60mph. They said less than 5% of people who got hit with that speed survive an accident like that. So Prime is right. Never crash your head into a speeding car. Once in a lifetime thing.

In this Transformers podcast discord I go to, have this running joke about the Stunticons being real, because Bob Budiansky made an insane writer's comment in the Marvel comics that only the Stunticons are real and he's met them several times
In terms of the toys, because in the cartoon Optimus Prime and Motormaster were the same size, I won an eBay auction back in 1999 for a G1 Motormaster. I was greatly disappointed when I opened the box to find that motormaster was actually much smaller in scale than Optimus Prime.
9:52/9:53 I had this personal headcanon that this is also meant to be Prime: Wildrider after an unspecified incident refliped his persona from crazy & erratic to skittish & paranoid.
I got myself the Unite Warriors Stunticons for my 22nd birthday. I love imagining them in road battles with ground-based Autobots, trying to run them off the road while still maintaining their disguises.

I'm convinced the tfp Breakdown was originally supposed to be Crankcase when put side by side. Remember, the writers for rid had no clue about the tfp cast. Wildbreak is literally two front halves of a name glued together
My favourite member is drag strip for not just his alt mode but for his Personality ( Reminds me of my own competitive side which sometimes shows up when I’m playing Multiplayer game) and my favourite version of the team is G1 and they will also become my First Combiner team as I have all the Legacy toys, and I’m for Breakdown to get delivered as I pre order it 2 months ago.

i like the g1 stunticons my fave g1 stunticon is motormaster and my fave stunticon in combiner wars is offroad because he is a nice guy i own that figure and i find it funny the rid stunticons fight among themselves
Stunticons are one of my favorite combiner team,I know most people prefer the Combaticons but I really like the individual Stunticons' personality and their dynamic with Motormaster, there's alot of potential for these characters but most media often overlooked them, Dead End in Cyberverse is probably the only time in animation where they actually refer to any Stunticons original G1 bio,RID 2015 was pretty close but both ER and Prime Breakdown had different personality from his original appearance.
Aside Devastator, Menasor is my other favorite combiner. I always describe them as my favorite “goons” Just a bunch of bad dudes up to no good. Was so happy to complete the Legacy set. Would love to see them as an entire team again. Though I will say, I never realized how PROMINENT these guys where through out the 2010s. Rather ironic that the team members where featured in all over media but always separate at the same time.
Thanks for uploading this and it was so worth the wait especially after getting all the TF legacy figures and my favourite incarnation is the G1 Stunticons and my favourite member has always been Dead End I like him cuz of his design and Car mode and I prefer his mouth plate instead of his box art design but still love the box art anyway and I so hope you’ll do a video on Dead End in the future. I love prime Breakdown but I do feel his name serves the g1 Breakdown better, I mean a paranoid bot that has mental "breakdowns" while having a power to make other things "breakdown" is just too good.
@ChrisMcFeely "Menasor" was also used as a name for a character in Transformers Cybertron of the Unicron Trilogy. Menasor was a young resident of Gigantion, the planet of giant Transformers. He was convinced by Megatrom & the Decepticons to align with them in an effort to change the rules of Gigantion. And for a while, Menasor fought alongside the Decepticons. However, when Menasor was battling with Metroplex in the lowest & innermost layer of the planet where the Cyber Planet Key of Gigantion was located, Menasor's Mini-Con: Heavy Load, along with Metroplex's Mini-Con: Drill Bit, stopped Menasor & Metroplex from fighting. This immediately led to Metroplex & both Mini-Cons convincing Menasor to change alliances & fight alongside the Autobots to help Primus destroy the Black Hole & save the universe, & to help the Autobots stop Galvatron & the Decepticons.

Funny enough, Off-Road was my first Combiner Wars toy, I remember taking it home, transforming it and being stunned by its Combiner mode, since then, the Transformers toys I have been collecting have mostly been Combiners. I just started with the legacy version, though I only have Motormaster and Dragstrip, as for some reason the stores in my region have never left wave 1 of legacy, and everytime I go online to BBTS or TFS there always only up for preorder, maybe I'll get lucky soon, I'll just have to wait and see. EDIT: I just Checked BBTS after posting this to find Wildrider and Breakdown in stock,, so im gonna work up the money to get them.
This is a team I call very dear. I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea to win. Combiner wars was an ounce I was a static since I don’t really have the means to afford third-party, especially back in 2015 fresh out of high school. Even though it is by no means a good figure, the combiner wars Menasor was the first combiner that I completed that was not an Energon repaint. Motormaster is also the first custom I made years ago

I think the Combaticons have that particular trophy, just from Swindle, but the Stunticons are a close second.
And it shows that despite being powerful together, their relationship with each other are toxic, especially for Motormaster
The Decepticons really do have some of the best and iconic combiners. Their rivalry with Superion was always fun to watch.
It's a real shame it took over 30 years for the Autobots to get anything remotely as cool in terms of combiners.

This is kinda why I'm conflicted about the latest Menasor toy. In some ways it's very impressive, but it abandons interchangeability. Heck, it's only optionally a combiner, with Motormaster forming the whole super-robot in a way that's more akin to Powermaster Prime.
@@originaluddite Yup, I've always loved the Scramble City idea from the original toys that Takara/Hasbro used for Unite Warriors/Combiner Wars. I've even picked up extra figures to make my own combiner teams someday with some customizing.
That sounds very cool. Combiner Wars was still one of the best 'play patterns' and I only wish they had presented it a bit more consistently. As for the original Scramble City concept, I love that I only have ten of those toys, across six teams, and yet have two full gestalts.

Breakdown was my favourite stunticons among all because of its coolest alt mode and colors
Whereas for Earthspark Breakdown, he's totally a friend of Bumblebee in races, just like Velocitronian times. What makes him epic and emotional is that rather than just friends, races, and fun with him, he even sacrificed himself to save Bee from being captured by GHOST.
The Stunticons(and all the other combiners) deserve spots in future Transformers live action movies. The Constructicons have had their day.
Fun Fact: Off-road was based on a preexisting Decepticon, Ruckus, whom Hasbro was originally was gonna have on the team for Combiner war but scrapped it in favor of an original character (I.e. Off-Road) partly dud to trademark issues, and partly due to executives feeling that Ruckus didn’t fit in with the Stunticons anyways.
Also cause the Stunticons already got Wildrider as the insane one
I remember the toy line for Transformers Prime had a solo Dead End figure that was a repaint of Wheeljack’s that made him into a spark-hungry vampire, and the first bayverse movie comic made him into a zombie that ripped the parts of other transformers off in order to repair his body, broken from experimentation. Yeesh.
If I'm not mistaken, all that's left for the Scramble-City Combiner teams is a basics episode on the Technobots.
I love the G1 idea that the Stunticons' insane durability was because they were fitted with forcefield generators that enhanced the Earth materials that they were made with.
I don't know why that always stuck with me, but it does explain why they're always able to smash up Autobots without sustaining damage to themselves.

Structural forcefields and magnetic/gravity manipulation was the toons easy explaination for the Stunticons being able to do the stunts and collisions they did, and made them stand out against their Autobot counterparts. Sure you had a few that could do neat car tricks, but none dedicated to it like the Stunticons were.

So a funny thing about the botcon 2011 set... It was the middle of the night 3:00 a.m. Eastern midnight Pacific... And Derrick j. Wyatt had posted on Twitter that he needed to see the back of motor masters head...
I tweeted back to him. Give me about 5 minutes, 5 minutes later. I sent him a picture of the back of G1 motormaster's head. The next thing I knew we got a preview of the stunticon job animated figure's from botcon 2011!

Rumble was the one who inspired Megatron to name the Stunticons after they made a demonstration of their powers.

The Stunticons are my 3rd favorite combiner team after the Combaticons and the Aerialbots. They're status as Decepticon road vehicles and the sword-wielding of Menasor are pretty darn awesome and I plan to feature them in my fanfiction as part of a unit led by Scorponok.
Those Animated toys are Drag Strip being a recolor of Arcee, Dead End recolored from Jazz, Breakdown from Rodimus Prime, Wildrider from Lockdown, and Motormaster a retool and recolor of Optimus Prime surprisingly.

I also love that episode of G1 when Optimus Prime, Mirage, Jazz, Sideswipe and Windcharger tried to impersonate the Stunticons only to be ratted out when Megatron asked them to combine into Menasor. That was pretty funny!
Their appearance in Devastation was awesome, fighting Motormaster one-on-one and then Menasor, and then Menasor's surprise return in the final battle against Devastator where you had to face both at once. Breakdown was also great in War for Cybertron, with some of the best lines and reactions from Megatron.
Plus, a legacy Dragstrip toy is redecoed into a new character named shadowstrip.
I once made up a story about the Stunticons, but they were actually classic Decepticons in new bodies. Megatron = Motormaster, Starscream was Drag Strip, Soundwave was Breakdown, Frenzy was Wildrider, and Thundercracker was Dead End. In response, the Autobots made the Airialbots. Optimus Prime was supposed to be Silverbolt, but I didn't finish the story, so I can't say how it would have ended.
Wonderful imagination. It’s funny with our differences we’re still able to have so much in common. In my reimagined cerebral episodes, I made Soundwave a version of Optimus Prime. I would mis-transform Soundwave to resemble a semi. My made up story was a little complex. I always believed because of Soundwave’s loyalty and devotion to Megatron that there was actually some good in him. So, I imagined he strayed away and tried to do good. Because he was so conflicted he didn’t join the Autobots, he just took on the form of Prime’s alt mode and did good deeds so he wouldn’t be recognized by anyone. I could go on for ever about these little episodes I’d create in my head as a kid. Thank you for reminding me.
I do love those wild G2 colors.
I also include RotF Oil Pan since he is a redeco of Breakdown, as well as Speed Stars Wreckloose and Hunt for the Decepticons Override to my headcanon.
A lot of these offshoots would make good alternate names if they do more G2 recolors like they did Drag Strip/Shadowstripe. Wreckloose, a play on reckless, is a very appropriate Stunticon name.

Research by the police led to their conclusion that I was hit by the car who drove between 90 and 100km an hour = 60mph. They said less than 5% of people who got hit with that speed survive an accident like that.

In terms of the toys, because in the cartoon Optimus Prime and Motormaster were the same size, I won an eBay auction back in 1999 for a G1 Motormaster. I was greatly disappointed when I opened the box to find that motormaster was actually much smaller in scale than Optimus Prime.

I got myself the Unite Warriors Stunticons for my 22nd birthday. I love imagining them in road battles with ground-based Autobots, trying to run them off the road while still maintaining their disguises.

I'm convinced the tfp Breakdown was originally supposed to be Crankcase when put side by side. Remember, the writers for rid had no clue about the tfp cast. Wildbreak is literally two front halves of a name glued together
My favourite member is drag strip for not just his alt mode but for his Personality ( Reminds me of my own competitive side which sometimes shows up when I’m playing Multiplayer game) and my favourite version of the team is G1 and they will also become my First Combiner team as I have all the Legacy toys, and I’m for Breakdown to get delivered as I pre order it 2 months ago.

i like the g1 stunticons my fave g1 stunticon is motormaster and my fave stunticon in combiner wars is offroad because he is a nice guy i own that figure and i find it funny the rid stunticons fight among themselves
Stunticons are one of my favorite combiner team,I know most people prefer the Combaticons but I really like the individual Stunticons' personality and their dynamic with Motormaster, there's alot of potential for these characters but most media often overlooked them, Dead End in Cyberverse is probably the only time in animation where they actually refer to any Stunticons original G1 bio,RID 2015 was pretty close but both ER and Prime Breakdown had different personality from his original appearance.

I love prime Breakdown but I do feel his name serves the g1 Breakdown better, I mean a paranoid bot that has mental "breakdowns" while having a power to make other things "breakdown" is just too good.
The commercial animation of the Stunticons and Aerialbots toy was so well made and so wrong at the same time!
@ChrisMcFeely "Menasor" was also used as a name for a character in Transformers Cybertron of the Unicron Trilogy.
Menasor was a young resident of Gigantion, the planet of giant Transformers. He was convinced by Megatrom & the Decepticons to align with them in an effort to change the rules of Gigantion.
And for a while, Menasor fought alongside the Decepticons.
However, when Menasor was battling with Metroplex in the lowest & innermost layer of the planet where the Cyber Planet Key of Gigantion was located, Menasor's Mini-Con: Heavy Load, along with Metroplex's Mini-Con: Drill Bit, stopped Menasor & Metroplex from fighting.
This immediately led to Metroplex & both Mini-Cons convincing Menasor to change alliances & fight alongside the Autobots to help Primus destroy the Black Hole & save the universe, & to help the Autobots stop Galvatron & the Decepticons.

Funny enough, Off-Road was my first Combiner Wars toy, I remember taking it home, transforming it and being stunned by its Combiner mode, since then, the Transformers toys I have been collecting have mostly been Combiners. I just started with the legacy version, though I only have Motormaster and Dragstrip, as for some reason the stores in my region have never left wave 1 of legacy, and everytime I go online to BBTS or TFS there always only up for preorder, maybe I'll get lucky soon, I'll just have to wait and see.
EDIT: I just Checked BBTS after posting this to find Wildrider and Breakdown in stock,, so im gonna work up the money to get them.

This is a team I call very dear. I know it’s not everybody’s cup of tea to win. Combiner wars was an ounce I was a static since I don’t really have the means to afford third-party, especially back in 2015 fresh out of high school.
Even though it is by no means a good figure, the combiner wars Menasor was the first combiner that I completed that was not an Energon repaint.
Motormaster is also the first custom I made years ago

Deadend is one of my favorite transformers after seeing him in Cyberverse. Best season 3 character.
