    THIS!!!!! I bought my son a 1984 corvette with the crossfire. When asking for help from some of the forums, the amount of comments i got from people telling me to just put a carb on it was insane. I’m trying to teach my 16 year old how to work on cars, not just give up and put a damn fuel toilet on. Ours had a ton of issues, I’ve sorted most of them. Now I have to do a sync, set initial timing, and set my TPS. Tons of people badmouth this injection, it’s legitimately all in the service manual!! Crack that book open, and don’t try to be smarter than GM.

    Joe I have an issue with my 82 vette 350. I had issues of the car not wanting to crank back up after it was warm. Tested fuel pump pulse on cold start up and it works as expected. After its warmed up I can shut the car off and it wouldn't start back up. Retested for fuel pulse and got nothing! Tested relay and eventually found out the relay is getting hot and not working after that. Changed the relay and fixed the restart issue. My concern is that the new relay is getting hot too. About 130 degrees hot. Is that normal? And just so you know I replaced the fuel sending unit with the new relay just to rule out a bad fuel pump that may have had some resistance. What are your thoughts on the relay?

Ripping my 84 Corvette around San Diego/La Mesa today I have lots of mods, AFR heads, crane cam, Renegade intake, full length headers ect. Having a blast. Just about to get a laptop so I can install and tune the Dynamic EFI EBL Flash II system I already bought. • @Joesmusclecargarage
      @Joesmusclecargarage  2 роки тому +2

      Definitely. Aside from the normal; bumped timing, headers and exhaust, CFI cars benefit greatly from a bump in fuel pressure (13-14psi) and HEAVILY porting the intake manifold. Larger bore TBs aren’t necessary until you get more serious into a build (heads, cam, etc). A ported base will support a good bump in HP. As far as a cam, keep your LSA around 112-116 and you’ll be fine with the stock 5055/6026, or a newer 7747/8746 ECM. There are some hard running CFI cars out there, and people badmouth what they don’t understand. It doesn’t take much at all to wake them up.

One thing I didn't care for was that they used steel bolts to secure the thermostat housing to the aluminum intake manifold. • @Joesmusclecargarage
      @Joesmusclecargarage  2 роки тому

      First and foremost I would go through the fuel system. New pump, clean out the lines, and cross your fingers the injectors are still good. Other than that, it’s just normal stuff. Check over the wiring, vacuum lines, etc. If it really has been sitting for 20 years, it would be a good idea to shoot some oil into the cylinders so the rings have a little bit of lube until it fires up. Once it’s running, you can go one other things like timing, TB balance, etc.

    • @Joesmusclecargarage
      @Joesmusclecargarage  Рік тому

      Just cap the line coming out of the EGR solenoid. You’ll be prone to pinging with the EGR disabled. A functioning EGR reduces combustion chamber temperatures, allowing for more timing. Is this on an LU5/L83 or an L03/L05? Without going into the PROM, the ECM will assume the EGR is still functioning and will continue to add timing when it goes to enable the EGR. You’ll need to tune the EGR control out of the PROM. Or…retard the base timing if you’re not going into the PROM.

    Quick question - I'm hearing a ticking sound from the rear (driver side) TBI - is this a sign it's going bad? I can actually hear it while idling and I'm sitting in the driver's seat. LMK when you get a chance - thanks!

    • @Joesmusclecargarage
      @Joesmusclecargarage  2 роки тому +3

      Are you sure it’s coming from the TB? It could be a rocker or lifter. TBI injectors naturally make noise, as do IACs. My passenger side (front) injector is the louder of the two on my car. See if you can get ahold of a stethoscope or a length of heater hose to better isolate the source of the noise.

    Hmm this is where the TBI setup came from. Pretty common Injector and IACV/TPS. Even fuel reg layout looks the same.

    • @KevinJames-yg9eu
      @KevinJames-yg9eu Рік тому

      If you want to get picky, this setup is a pair of throttle bodies off the 2.5L 4-cylinder. GM wanted to put fuel injection on the V8 in the Corvette and F-body, but they didn't have a suitable throttle body already developed, so they came up with Crossfire as a marketing gimmick that allowed use of two throttle bodies that were half as big as they needed to be for the V8. Then they ended up with the compromised intake runners to meet emissions requirements...

    I agree with the simplicity of the CFI engine and would concur that it can be made to run smooth. However, the limitations on the ECM timing advance are very restrictive at best. You are dependent on limited ECM flash availability so to get more power you are looking to increase the throttle body bore. So in short, you can't compare the limitless LS to the restrictive L83. In saying as much, I do not claim to be the CFI or TBI expert by any means.
