"The last thing somebody touched is the problem." Absolutely love this logic and can relate in so many ways
A good diagnoses with a successful fix. That is always a good feeling!
damn right lol
WOW! I was not aware that you didn't have to drop the tank to get to the fuel pump in the 82. How nice of Chevy to make it accessible.
Wow, that's a rather convenient fuel pump job! Especially for a car which is so tightly wrapped around its guts...
Nice job Ben. Back to the basics; fuel, spark and air. People should always just start there.
Great tutorial on how you test these cars to find what is wrong. Keep up the great work to keep these classics on the road.
Excellent another Corvette video!
Thanks Ben
I have worked on the L83 crossfire fuel systems on both 82 and 84 corvettes and the best pump I have used is the original AC DELCO 13 psi at the cross over line works every time
I am in the minority, but I always believed the C-3 Cross Fire set up was about 5 years before it was time. Maybe 10.
I love the Corvette Videos Ben, but I love the Caddy videos too. No matter what it is nice to see you uploading again.
loves me a crossfire video.. thanks
You are correct, we *do* love Corvette content!
I knew 3 people that had crossfires, none of them ran well, but they are good looking cars!
When you say that "none of them ran well", are you saying that they did not run smoothly, were troublesome to maintain, or just slow? They were used by GM, European and Japanese auto makers in one form or another for many years. Of any form of fuel injection ever installed on an American car, the TBI was easily the most reliable.
Lately it seems the first step in troubleshooting old cars is locating the new parts.
looks like the owner has kept up the car nicely..looks great..and now, runs great again..
Damn! That was the easiest fuel pump install I have ever seen! Now I want one and I did Subscribe!
If i ever get rich ....im getting a 82 just like this
I enjoy your blog
Great job Ben! Enjoy your videos.
Your logic is good
Nice to see you Ben,where’s chopstick and noodle lol.thanks John from Arizona
Yet answer satisfying result! Well done!
You did a great job too!!
LORD THATS CLEAN!
Great fix Ben! I remember replacing many different model GM in tank pumps way back when everyone changed over to fuel injection. Same pump. lol. I remember my old co-worker saying. "I don't like this fancy idea of running an electric motor in 20 gallons of gasoline"! What if the motor heats up? Or a wire gets loose"? lol. I miss those days. But i sure don't miss those early Ford ( I think) "variable venturi" carburetors !! Or the early Chrysler "Lean burn" system. Wheeew! don't light a match!
Thanks Ben!
Good repair 👍
Very nice and good looking job Ben!💯✅👍
ITS ALIVE!
Great save and great video
Yay!
Nice clean job, well done
Great Job!
I always enjoy your videos....
Awesome job as always 😊
I have a 96 CE in the garage waiting for appropriate weather if you wanted to swap for a weekend. Just sayin'.
Amazing condition for a 40+ year old vehicle!
Good gold corvette video
Would you ever consider making Q&A video?
Great video! Appreciate the info. I'm curious why you went straight to testing/pulling the fuel pump before testing the other simpler things that could have gone bad like the Fuel Pump fuse, Fuel Pump relay or ECM. Also, would checking for faults via the ODB1 module throw a code that would tell us what went wrong (bad relay, bad ECM or bad fuel pump)?
Nice :)
Excellent car, excellent diagnosis, excellent job. Congrats Ben !!!
More crossfire videos Ben!!!
Back when the Crossfire first came out it quickly earned the reputation for "can't fire" with all the problems the first attempt by GM for electronic fuel injection. The second attempt with Tuned Port Injection ( 1985 ) was much better and more reliable.
I kinda like the shark looking vets.
My friend had one of these and he called it "cease fire injection".
My gas tank must be shifted up as well because my 82 Collector sending unit sits exactly the same. (Side note) That rubber vapor line on the left side of the sending unit had a split and was the reason I wasn't passing California Emissions testing. There are actually 2 rubber hoses on the left and it was the further most one. The hardest to reach one of course.
I am confused about your testing procedure. Looks like you had the fuel pump disconnected from the harness when you rigged up the test light to the wiring harness coming from the car. You turned the key on, the test light came on, but when you cranked the engine, the test light went out... Seems like the test light should come on for just a few seconds when you turn the key on to prime up the system, but it should stay on when cranking... I got lousy eyes so probably just didn't see the light correctly. Edumacate me Ben!
Test light didn’t go out, it was just very dim. Hard to see on camera but you could see it in real life. The battery was also really low due to the owner cranking it over and over.
@@TheCorvetteBen Thanks for the explanation!
Question; you said a fuel pump or a relay. Couldn"t an old, stopped up fuel filter prevent it from getting fuel to the injectors also? Thanks~
82’s are the easiest to LS swap !
wish more were built in OUR country
I gave a 3 star feedback on a part from Chi na, & Amazon rejected it. Said I didn't follow company guidelines.
lordered a new sending unit with the fuel pump. Of course it wasn't already connected. I am completely lost on how to install and wire the fuel pump to the unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Putting the fuel pump/filter in the gas tank……… let’s find that engineer and beat him unconscious 😂. What a stupid idea
Ben i have an 84 that was working good but one day the crossfire stoped working how would you
DIagnose the problem?
HI Ben is 12 grand a good price for a 74 stingray 40 thousand miles all original your help would be so appreciated
Do you use OME parts ? I never trusted aftermarket I now see at the end you told what you used 😊
Nice job! Question, My gas gauge is not working correctly and I want to check the gauge in the car(82 Vette) witch wire is for the gauge going to the sending pump? Your would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Mr Ben I have a 84 with
Cross-fire and the injectors are not firing.
Help me. 😢
I think it's those high horsepower. 180 horse
Are they really that easy to work on? The c3s?
電気式燃料ポンプがタンク内にあるとは知らなかった。
自分の81年式が機械式の最終型なのか。
@2 min 31 sec you put wires on the black and purple which is blk far right and red middle far left is the tan wire which actually powers the pump motor i know this because i have 82 c3 corvette and i'm not receiving power at tan why?
first I would do a Noid test to the fuel injection on the thottle body carbs if you the noid lights don't show any signal by flashing then its your ECM and nothing you going to do to start the car.
Ben, have you ever put an LS engine into a C3? I am guessing you specialize in C3's so you don't have to mess with ECM, TCM & BCM etc.. LS engines appear to be a lot more complicated than modernized SBC 350's. TY and Best Wishes with your new home and shop.
Hey guys! I have an opportunity to purchase an 82 C3. Overall the car is in great shape. How difficult is it to ditch the cross fire injection and simply convert to a 4 bbl car?
Where are you located.. I need the fuel pump changed in mine.
My 199 c4 takes some time to start when cold. However when warm she starts instantly. Can you give me your advice on what might be the problem? Thanks.
Was there a 4 speed manual available?
Not in 1982. Four speed auto was the only transmission that year.
What happened to the rubber booty that covers the filler neck? Does the 1982 year not come with one? Thanks Ben !
My 82 has the rubber boot..
I have a 93 with a crank no start. It seems like it wants to start but doesn’t. Any suggestions??
Mario,gr8 Vette. I'd start with checking the dreaded Opti spark distributor. Its notorious for failure on GM's of that era.
Why wouldnt you show actually changing the pump in the sending unit
Because it is pretty common sense...
Murvis from Orlando Florida my gas gage don't work what you thank
Fuel sending unit.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CHICKENS ?
You say that it will be a fuse, relay, or the pump, but not the inline fuel filter?? Always change the filter before changing the pump. There is nothing wrong with TBI systems, millions of GM vehicles were equipped with them. Regarding the 1982 Corvette, most complain because it is rather slow, but what do expect from 9:1 compression, a taxi-cab cam and a 2.87 rear axle ratio? Everything in 1982 was slow.
Still made in china
Always Go GM on fuel pumps and ignition modules. Chinese crap is crap.
News flash... everything comes from China these days. Even AC Delco and Delphi parts.
News flash, at least you have recourse when you buy a name brand parts from reputable source, and can replace them if they go bad.
@@TheCorvetteBen Very true Ben. Love the videos and hope you keep doing them. Just pointing out that lots of things come from overseas, some good...and some bad. The common (and over used) blanketed statement of "it from China, so it's junk" is not accurate. What makes things junk are companies that don't have any quality control in place. Although AC Delco has recently gone overseas, for the obvious reason of increasing the wealth of Owner's/CEO's, I believe they have incorporated good quality control... but time will tell. Take care and keep up the awesome vids!
Also, your statement that it had no markings and yet you determined it was automatically from China?
