Brimfield Flea Market Is The Ultimate Thrifting Spot | How Bazaar | Refinery29

- Some people come across a football field of old stuff - crusty jackets with dirty Kleenex still in the pockets; rows of dusty bottles, some still with decades-old Coca-Cola in it; and patched-up chairs that’s got more holes than actual stuffing - and would rather do anything than enter.
For others, myself included, this is the literal description of The Happy Place. And the happiest of all Happy Places might very well be Brimfield Antique Show, the thrice-yearly, weeklong event that’s considered to be the largest, most reputable, and longest-running gathers of antique dealers in the country. It is a pain to get to, a monster to navigate, and will test your patience, your endurance, and your tolerance to heat, grime, and port-a-potties. But if you’re the latter kind of person, Brimfield is the GOAT.
Follow along with Connie Wang as she explores, haggles, and purchases at this epic market.

"Tips for haggling"
...
*first offer from vendor*
"Great I'll take it!"
Alex J i
😂
Alex J 😂💀
When she asked for a better deal I was like "aw no stop, don't ask for less than $1.50!! That's cruel." And then I realized they meant $150...............
I clutched my invisible pearls when she paid 140$ for a shredded denim rag..... I literally thought they were going to be 25$ when she asked him......
Jason Mascelli when he said one fifty I though it was a dollar fifty cents and that seemed normal to me 😂
Personally I like the first jeans better than the second, and it is cheaper, only $15
I thought it was one dollar fifty cents too and thought oh, ok, that's reasonable - that's how much they're worth.
I thought he meant a buck 50. Like one dollar and fifty cents. NOT $150.00!!! Outrageous. And, by the way, one good washing in the washing machine and they are goners. CHEERS!
I think that situation of 25$ goes only with the sellers who don't know what they are really selling, I think it is a good prize for something 80 years old, would't expect less then 100 :)
Thrift store vendors EXPECT people to haggle, I've been to Brimfield before and actually saw a few store I frequent in the background. You did NOT get a good deal.
I guarantee you are the ONLY person that's going to buy overalls from him at that price.
Leggs "this girl has a camera crew... she's probably rich... i'll stick it to her"
I have no idea why she paid $140 for that but I glad she was happy
I'm from Massachusetts and love Brimfield because I grew up going there, but I would not really classify it as a flea market. It's really more of an antique show. The vendors know the value of their stuff and will charge you a lot for the items- not really where you go to find a bargain. However, it's super fun to walk around and poke through stuff, or if you have the money to go nuts, you can walk away with really fun, quirky old pieces.
When I heard him say 150 I thought he must’ve said $1.50 because that’s how much the overalls should be worth..
Those overalls don't seem sanitary.
140.....for essentially garbage. Wow. You could get a decades old pair of denim overalls at any thrift store in my town for like 2.50....foolishness.
charlaine mcneil maybe 80s but not 40s
They were extra cool, and you were willing to pay it, but you still probably could've haggled at least $20 off. Gotta play the numbers. I like to offer something around 2/3 of what's being asked with a price that high and negotiate from there.
That black blouse under the overalls looked like a random piece of bunched up fabric stuffed in 😂
140? what? At the flea market in my hometown in Europe you get 90% of the clothes for 2€ and most of them were actually very expensive back in the days
I feel like he finds those pants for like $10 at thrift stores or estate sales and turns around sells them for $150
she pay 140 dollars thats why flea markets are expensive this days .. dont spoil the flea market .. rich people.
I'd pay $140 for a unique, treasured garment that stood the test of time that I truly love any day, instead of blowing my money on mass produced clothing that takes a toll on the environment and the people who made those items.
yessss! Everybody is so excited to buy from big fast fashion companies because they have more items for their money, made by people paid a salary that wouldn't even buy you lunch here and in horrible conditions. I would rather pay more for an item, be unique instead of looking like everyone else.
Marjol I still think $140 is a little pricey. I’m an avid vintage shopper, and I’ve gotten dresses as old and older for $30 in better condition. At the same time, she looks fabulous and it truly is a special piece, but astronomical prices keep people away from buying vintage/second hand. Just know you can get unique treasures for much less.
did you not see the holes in the ass? how has that stood the test of time ahahaha she even specifically pointed out all the repairs
They are pretty great and a conversation piece. She's paying for something different and dressing them up works.
Honestly nah 140 is a bit toooo much, for those id pay Deadass 60 dollars max 🤦🏽♂️
"A very reasonable price of 150." Is that guy crazy??? That's typical with flea markets. A lot of vendors that overprice.
I don't think the overalls are quite as old as he's stating they are.. some of the rips/cut outs look intentional
genu o that's what I thought!
I didn't see anything a good cheese grater, seam ripper, scissors and some hand ripping couldn't achieve ....so I'm kinda doubting how authentic the distress details were.
I would love to see more videos like this of different vintage markets across the U.S.
140 usd for a pair of moth eaten jeans?
that's your opinion, like i agree but it depends on the person. I love my jeans either worn in or brand new
She paid $140 for a nasty, shredded old pair of hideous overalls that will 1000% fall apart in the wash? What the actual f***? 😂
I love this!! More connie please 🙏🏼
Loved the video, the first overalls are my gem, that was how I styled my madewell ones, I live in jumpsuits🙂
when u can find the same pair of overalls in the trash
Lol true😂
Maybe he did found them in the trash for free then sold them for 150, yikes!
I love thrifting or shopping at my favorite consignment boutique! It is so much fun hunting for treasures! When you first tried on the overalls, I wasn't that impressed but then when you created an outfit with it, I thought "OK, great eye!" Love the video!
One of the best made Antique Show videos I've seen - and I run Topanga Vintage Market in LA so I've seen a few! Such a great host willing to learn and enjoy the hunt. It's true her overalls weren't a bargain, but they are collectible, unique and full of the sense of history that she was looking for. Our show is more of a mix between Brimfield and a flea market, where everything is vintage, but not all of the sellers are pros. Good pickins!
Wow! Speachless!
It’s like finding hidden treasures and being a kid all over again...gotta add Brimfield Flee Market on my bucket list.
Very cute those overalls are on you. You styled it nicely. Great job! I love vintage thrift. ☆★♡♥♡
“The Elephants Trunk” in CT is also a great flea market for vintage items.
not sure if anyone else noticed but she obviously had these tailored to fit her more snugly....add that minimum $40 tailoring expense onto the $140 she paid and the tab only rises...ridiculous!!!
Yeah i noticed the cuts were less and it fit her like a snug.
So tailoring and cleanere fee as they look darker than when she bought them
Yes! I tailor my own stuff
Great video! Love the overalls.
Connie is sweet and adorable but I feel like, when it comes to those overalls, she was had....
Great video!! Makes me want to go.
LOVE the way she styled them
😱😱 how did i not know about this?! I grew up in and still live in MA and love markets like this! I now have a new flea market to add to my "must hit open air markets"
More fashion videos with Connie! When did you film this? Last year? It hasn't opened up yet, or did you get an early peek?
you played $140 really what a waste of money
so glad i came across this video! im definitely going lol
I liked how you style the overall at the end~~~~~
She looks great!!!
You know if your going to buy vintage clothing, make sure the are intact and clean. Who on earth waste $140 crappy, filthy denim overalls that are practically rags?
omg I have to go to Brimfield, this is thrifting heaven!
I'm shocked that somebody is willing to pay 140$ for this trash pair of overalls and on top of that - wear it on a night out 😱 And call it fashion. People are going mad these days...
the green jacket at 6:59 is so cute
This looks like heaven!!!!!!!!
and its on the internet.
Crazy!
You all girls are so amazing and I really love your content.
Oh my goodness, you should do an apartment tour! I really like your style!
I totally want to go there !!!!!
I loved the YALE vintage tee at 0:55
And the pants at 0:59
ok going there is my life dream now
She is not just a bad haggler; she's also making a point. $140 goes to supporting the vendors and allowing them to continue doing what they love. It puts food on their tables and a roof over their heads. I wouldn't spend $140 for a knockoff version because that's a drop in the bucket for a huge corporation.
Katherine Wang I think that guy is making a hell of a lot more money than what is required for living necessities 😂😂😂
❤️
The homeless look is in now I guess
I was there! Great video. Brimfield is like Christmas to me!!!
Damn... take me thereeeeee
she rocked it tho
$140? She got ripped off. 😂
I really feel like he was asking $1.50 not $150 but she interpreted it as $150 and he just went with it
OMG ITS MY THRIFTING HEAVEN
Come to Round Top Antiques Fair in TX! :)
that neck trick is defiantly false for most people over a size six
Yeah true. My neck is smaller than my stomach sadly😅
@@pinkheart315 I mean, your neck shouldn't be larger than your stomach. It's a stretch to even say it should be the same size. Can you imagine if someone had a 15 inch waist?
"these are really nice"
*holds up destroyed overalls*
I should go sometime, seeing as I live in Mass.
This is a dream destination to somebody that loves thrifting, i kinda wanna live there
A pair similar to yours just went for $20 on eBay. I'm a vintage dealer from mass, been to Brimfield many times, sorry but you got taken
I know that fashion lovers should be courageous, take risks and love the unusual but... man. $140? The outfit at the end looks really cool though!
I really want to go!
when u first bought that pair of overall, i thought the vendor offered a price more than it is supposed to be. but ultimately it is all depends on how u pull if off. at the end of when she style it with that blouse and heel and everything, it was super nice and cute, and authentic! i think it worth it.
hi i'm heading out to Brimfield on Friday night (so hope to see action am Saturday) I too will be looking for early Americana/workwear clothing ..never been before but from what I've researched, the days of "digging for treasure" is virtually over as most things are priced via "ebay prices", how is the QUALITY of the vintage so far from what you can tell? are most of the sellers seasoned pro's ?...if you can get back to me at your earliest I would really appreciate it. thanks.
I live in Brim and we hate the flea market😂. So much traffic... But awesome stuff. And food.
Nice video your a sweetheart
i could buy the same old one here in $5 tops! no way gonna pay 140 fr thay
when you first tried the overalls on I wasn't so sure, but in the end when you paired with that black shirt it looked better.
Kirsten Haley tbh it looks more raggy or ratchet, it's just the shoes that save the whole look :/
Yeah but it still didn't look like it was worth $140
I live in Brimfield, and we dread this cause the traffics insane, but there's some awesome stuff and if I'm gonna sit in traffic I'd prefer it be somewhere i can "window shop" at the same time.
These vendors are so cute
That outfit at the end was terrible. Why would you pair a blouse like that with overalls? The shirt looks all clumped together.
i wanna go omg
Romanian thrift stores are the best.
The chlotes are really cheap and almost new. They usually come from germany or other european countries. You can find chlothing pices from h&m too and the best part is that they all smell like peaches. The initial price for a skirt I bought was 11 dollars, but in the thrift store it was 46 cents.
So, I have a question. Do you try on something you like first, or after you ask how much it is? It would suck to fall in love with something first then find out you can't afford it.
Wish I could go here
Bro my family lives in Brimfeild the flea market you can get so much cool stuff
I thought he meant a buck fifty hahaha...this is crazy man
only vintage denim im interested in is Rockies lol
I can't believe these big brand youTube names actually know where brim field, MA is, most people in Mass don't even know where it is.
Sam Kleinman looks like Pete Wentz. * internally screams *
i would be really careful with vintage denim or other heavy duty type fabric, the fabric may hold up but often the seams are pretty weak. too many times have the straps broken on a vintage army bag or too low of a bend has split a pair of pants.
The reporter didn't do Asian's proud on the haggling
Im in tears. When he said one fifty I thought he mean $1.50 :(
At 0:53 that guy like that guy ( forgot his name ) from "fallout boys"
lol 140 dollars is still expensive for vintage overalls. I only pay that much for clothing that comes from before the 50's, but still good quality (which the overalls weren't lol). Have a 40's dress, with not that much wear, that I paid less for. Clothing after the 50's ain't worth that much, except if it is old Paris high fashion lol
let's drag that pants through the farm and dirt and sell it for 140 then. I don't really agree with the price because I'm a budget thrifter but whatever butters your egg rolls, I guess
I find the first pair of jeans that were made in the 70s a much more better deal for 50 bucks 😩❤️
Wow, you commenters know nothing about denim. $150 for a shell of 80 year old jeans is reasonable. If she chose, she could have them restored to a degree, but she likes the ware and history.
The history in those overalls, the cut, the brand. None of that is around and people pay $500+ for reproductions of it.
She did fine.
thegazette 🙄 a fraction of the population will be impressed by the 80 year old jeans that look like a shredded mess... not worth the novelty to most people
thegazette finally someone who actually understands denim! People just see it as torn ripped up dirty overalls it might be true but I really does have a history behind it and you don’t see pairs like that she bought a beautiful piece of denim for 140 very fair they don’t have those ones at all and where have you seen that brand today!
Wrapping the jeans around your neck must be a joke. Really. You're supposed to wrap the jeans around your waist and that goes from your belly button to the center of your back then it will fit but it's got to be vertically flush with both ends (your belly button and the center of your back). Wrapping jeans around your neck is the biggest lie I've ever heard about fitting jeans, or at least misinformation
The jeans may be from an authentic vintage brand, but $140 is asking a little too much, even for brand new overalls.
y’all really don’t understand vintage denim at all. it doesn’t matter how worn they are, an old piece of denim is hard to come by and it’s arguably the most influential part of clothing history. get a well preserved piece from the 1930s and you’re looking at a $1500-$2000 price tag. you can spend your money however you want but $140 is not a bad price for those overalls
Can you wash pants that old?
sandie lindemeyer
Overall jeans shouldn't be washed often. They have to be hand washed.
The easier way to measure your waist without wearing it around your waist is actually by your hand! Your waist should probably in the same length with the length of your fist to elbow.
Girl, that is not thrifting 😗
