  • We love bows and arrows here at The Slingshot Channel. A good bow has everything we want in a weapon.
    Performance.
    Impact.
    Accuracy.
    Silence.
    and and and.
What it does NOT have is shot frequency. If you are no Lars Andersen (our hats are off!), chances are you will need at least four seconds reloading time between arrows.
That leaves a lot to be desired. It makes the weapon useless against a group of Zombies (or other aggressors) and also it does not allow quick follow up shots for hunting.
But most of all, the slow fire rate simply reduces the fun.
"Instant Legolas" changes that! This simple invention allows complete newbies to shoot four arrows in under four seconds. Basically you are only limited to the time you need to draw back and shoot. You don't even touch the arrows before you refill the magazine.
We feel "Instant Legolas" is one of the coolest ideas we ever came up with.
This invention has been put into the public domain with no limits. You may use it, enhance it, develop commercial products out of it, no strings attached. Good luck!
    A "The Slingshot Channel" Production.

OK, here are a few answers regarding the most common questions/suggestions/comments. Read them before writing a comment in order to save some time.
    1. I do know Lars Andersen and even mention him in my text description. The man is a living legend, but 99,99% of all people (myself included) would not be able to shoot like him EVEN if we would invest 10 years of practice.
    2. This is NOT a crossbow. I have made plenty of repeating crossbows. It is actually easier as the bolts are much shorter. But the disadvantage is the shot frequency. You have to put a crossbow down in order to cock it as the short draw length requires a high draw weight.
    3. I do know the Chu-Ko-Nu (Chinese repeating crossbow) of course and even made my own variations of it, culminating in my full auto drill powered crossbow. But this invention here is different - the biggest advantage is the power and accuracy. A Chu-Ko-Nu (and my full auto crossbow) is a fairly weak "spray and pray" weapon. This thing is a powerful, accurate bow with a pretty good ROF.
    4. Yes, reloading the magazine takes time. That is the case with pretty much every mag based weapon. But this is made for people that need a fast follow up shot, so basically a two shot mag would be good enough to cover that purpose. Insofar it has 50% extra reserve.
    5. Yes, you could build a bigger mag. Yes, you could even build a drum mag. Yes, you can build exchangeable clips with preloaded arrows. Yes, you can attach a release, even one that works like a ratchet for safety. Yes, you can come up with solutions for broadheads. It is called enhancements to a groundbreaking idea. I encourage the world to come up with such enhancements and I would be delighted to see those coming.
    6. Of course I could file a patent. To my knowledge nobody ever attached a magazine like this to a compound bow before. But then the trouble begins. Big companies with huge pockets can/will fight the patent and I would have to defend it. It would take all my time, attention and money to do that. Google Charles Goodyear, my big idol. He invented vulcanized rubber. Without his invention, we would NOT have fast cars because no tires. We would NOT have engines, by all means, as they require rubber O-rings. No slingshots either :) ... Someone copied his idea and then a lawsuit started that ruined the guy. He died in poverty. Ten years later the Goodyear corporation even stole his name without paying a dime to his starving family. No thanks.

JoergSprave That is very awesome that you made it public domain, a smart idea, patent trolls can be absolutely ruthless with no regards or respect to businesses that rely on these inventions.
Besides, open sourcing it gives you the advantage of working with multiple businesses, rather than retaining and limiting your licenses to your own ventures and private parties. You are basically in marketing, so to partner with you to promote the product that large hunting companies can bring to light, is a wiser decision, without the weight of lawyers. :) So in the long run, it may be beneficial to you.

It takes a standard engineer to come up with an original design and patent it, it takes a good engineer to come up with one that can make money and patent it, it takes a great engineer to come up with one that revolutionises an industry and patent it, but it takes an amazing person and engineer to do the latter and put the design in the public domain.

This is not original. The Chinese have done it 1800 years ago, with powerful repeating crossbows as well. (The real life ones you see are based on Qing dynasty repeaters that are designed specifically for unarmoured peasants.)

    • @igorhorvat6080
      @igorhorvat6080 6 років тому +22

master archer yes. But this gives the speed(not accuracy) of a master archer to any grunt that can pull back a warbow.
Untrained archers could fire one shot in 5 to 10 seconds, and in the heat of combat hands are shaky and nocking an arrow could take 2 or 3 tries. this gives 4 perfect nocks in 4 seconds.
That is why early guns beat the bow, as any fool could take it and aim down the barrel.
Same with crossbows, slow fire rate but easy aim.
Not to mention that you can run, jump, maybe even climb easier inclines that require only one hand and have a ranged weapon at ready. Big plus in woodland and uneven terrain skirmishes.

No doubt, this would have been like giving less experienced medieval archers an Ak-47. I'm building this now. I want to get it in CAD, and cut it from the cnc machine. See if I can't get it lighter and thinner, and dampen the noise. Really more of a fun application. But awesome. And I apologize for my other comments. If you own an mp5, you know enough. actual Jörg worked as a high payed manager in his old life and just quitted cuz he was tired of this job and earned enough to life the next years without the need of a job and he was able to focus on a hobby, slingshots. This dude is still makin more cash then the most people nowaday (UA-cam, Sponsors, Product Placements, online Shop with barely expensive ( well, still worth it) items...). If u add the price of all his weapons, guns, rifles, knifes, slingshots and material, his hobby alone is worth more then most of the people houses

It is an amazing invention, and I thank you for making it public domain, it really seems practical for a compound bow as most people who use a compound shoot targets or animals and don't really want to spend a long time learning how to shoot really fast as it is fairly hard with a compound with many sights, but this really just simplifies it, much like handheld machine guns greatly reduced the skill needed to hit a target.

Nice idea Jörg! Just 2 improvements for Mark II: 1) Leave the forward box open so you can stack two-bladed broadheads. 2) Try to make up a quick replacement mount, so you can quickly attach another (pre-loaded) magazine instead of fumbling the arrows into the magazin. That way you can pre-load some magazines and just clip them on. That would be awesome! And cudos to making this idea public domain! I have just one thing to criticise: I missed your slogan "Let me show you its features!", hehe.
