I do like when they pull out that punchy, amp-pushed-to-the-brink sound like they do on this track. Super compressed and in your face. "I can't live with out you" is another track where they do that to the guitar. You really have to have your muting down in both hands or it turns chaotic sounding really fast. Great riff, great hook, great short bass breaks and great guitar solo and some wide open spots for Akane to just go nuts. It really has it all. A hidden gem from the early days.
“Shake That” was a staple of their live gigs in the early days. There are many fan recorded 2016 versions of this song, with the maids playing it very well in various dive pubs and small venues throughout the world. This is one of my favorite Akane drum performances. Surprisingly, Misa’s bass work is somewhat low key in this studio version, which is sad because her bass work is amazing throughout this song. I’m glad you finally got around to reviewing this early gem from the maids.

Love the new beginning album. So many good tracks other than thrill and real existence, which is should tell you something. Beauty and the Beast, Freezer and arcadia girl to name a few.
Couldn't agree more dude. I'm tired of the "they did not write this" thing. They recorded them so it has always been Band Maid. Some BM fans are annoying with the who write what shit.
Mr Akutsu who wrote this song I think wrote all their pre Kanami era bangers including real existence, Freezer for example. Don't let me down was also his composition if I remember correctly.
I've had this CD on repeat in my car for the last few days. There are some real bangers on this CD. But my ears really pick up when this song comes on. It's a real rock song. Love it.
Great reaction and it's not one of their songs, but still one of the better rock songs with that older, classic feel. This was also before Saiki's throat surgery in 2017.

I just played my own rip from the New Beginning CD, and Spotify is NOT doing this song justice. I don't know what that sad thing is. Doesn't look like you've ever checked out Freezer, also from the New Beginning CD. Well worth a listen! (I see that Ryan and Wave have checked it out, so I suppose you may have heard it through one of them.)
You get to the end of New Beginning and, after 8 tracks of God-tier hard rock, you're thinking it's just about the best hard rock album you've heard in decades. Then the stone cold pop punk hard rock classic "Shake That!!" cranks up and takes you to a whole new frenetic level of joy. Then you find yourself at the beginning of New Beginning and you're listening to it all over again. Several weeks of continuous play then ensues ... Band-Maid, the best progressive hard rock band on the planet, maybe ever.
Honestly, I can't believe you haven't heard this rocker before! They didn't write this one, but still a top favorite of mine! Really a crime an official music video wasn't made for this, sad. Akane was always this good!

This song is still one of my favorites and I hope they return to this sound one day. Of course, they do it in their own way. Clearly I respect Kentaro Akutsu, he was (is?) important to them.
There is a funny live version of this where Akane does a mad mincho on the drums from start to finish, whilst the rest of the band ends up putting as much distance as possible between them as the stage allows
I think this and "Freezer", from theis album are two of Band-Maid's lesser-known gems. Their latest US Tour show setlist didn't feature any songs from this album. Whether they are trying to get away from the songs they didn't write, or they are just more into promoting their latest album, I'm not sure. They also seem to be playing a slightly smaller set than usual, at just 18 songs.
I don't care if they did not right this. It would not have sounded anything like this if Band Maid was not playing it. What you are hearing is these talented young ladies.

I like this better than half of the new scrambled egg songs they played at Aftershock. I can listen to this CD without skipping a song. The crowed would have loved it. Still jamming but easier on the soul. This is a song.
Long live classic Band Maid. I am not saying that they are not rocking their ass off in the newer songs. There just clashing and missing a grove. The last three CD had some great songs on them, but they chose to play the noisy ones
Classic Band-Maid (pre-Different) is way superior to their newer sound. Older songs like this, which they didn't write but flawlessly executed, are what allowed them to create their most iconic era and catapulted them to become just the consummate hard rock band. Not saying they shouldn't experiment and continue to evolve, but hopefully they get over their obsession with bpm and proggy for prog's sake stuff (not to mention the rap garbage) and can make more songs in this style again.

Yeah the spotify versions of the Ladies songs is subdued or muted. It doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the CD.
