  • We've been asked to react to this band so we did! The boys sat down and listened to a few songs from the Japanese Rock band BAND-MAID and MAN ARE THEY GOOD.
Enjoy their reactions as Yusuf and Manuel question their lives while Brendan has an Anime dance party somewhere in the pits of New Jersey

Japanese chanting? I was in a crowd of Americans at the House of Blues in Chicago chanting exactly like that. They're just compelling live.
"Classic yet innovative." Yes, yes, yes... listening to Band-Maid gives you the feeling that the music is comfortingly familiar, and yet excitingly new at the same time.

Oh, and if you want more Japanese all female bands to check out:
      - Lovebites - Insanely polished power metal act
      - Nemophila - Much harder metal
      - Hanabie - crazed pop metal (opening for Jinjer coming soon to the US)
      - Otoboke Beaver - nutso old-school punk and junk rock
      For other Japanese bands:
      - Asterism - unbelievably skilled trio that plays something they call mass-metal (metal for the masses) and have possibly the best metal guitarist you've ever heard packed into the frame of a 4'8" girl aged 21. I'm dead serious.
      - One OK Rock - Hard rock arena anthem band... I experienced them opening for Muse and Evanescence. Not complex, but they hit hard, especially the vocals.
      For other all female bands:
      - The Warning - young Mexicans, but they speak and sing fluently in English, who opened for Band-Maid in Japan recently (they're great friends). They are getting huge fast, having just played Jimmy Kimmel, and I heard them on Hard Drive featured by Lew Brutus on the radio.
      - The Sixters - six Ukrainian girls that can kick your ass AND make you laugh.

    Here's my rap
Welcome to the BandMaid experience. The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts:
•Bass solos are more likely to happen than not. There's a bass solo in their first video!
•Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be
•Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen.
•Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre!
•You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that.
    •April Fools Day 2019
As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful.
•The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/original lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis.
•10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that.
•More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole.
•Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics.
•Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's.
•As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both.
•Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese. Most songs are full of joy as well.
•They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other.
•Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

No, nothing wild about these ladies, other than their wildly incredible talent. Just a great solid rock band. One of the best I've ever heard in fact. They can be wonderfully nostalgic yet are fresh and yes, innovative. Old school riffing and tasty solos abound but they also have an incredibly deep and diverse catalogue that pulls from many genres. Enjoy the ride, I know I have.

They are home grown and not "Baby Metal" Japanese music industry created. The rhythm guitarist worked at a Maid Cafe and had a dream od dressing like maids and playing hard rock music. She found the guitarist on UA-cam and she worked with the drummer and the drummer went to Tokyo school of music with the bassist. They needed a stronger vocalist and found the lead vocalist through their record label and the rest is history. The best Hard Rock band you never heard of.

Band Maid is the wildest and most unexpected thing to happen in the rock space. Musicians who actually play music. And they sincerely love their fans. And they are all genuinely happy people.
No bloody, angry spiked masks and violent lyrics about how terrible the world is. No tattooed egocentric guitarists who demand your worship because they know how to sweep pick.
Welcome to Band Maid. The best thing to happen in the rock industry in generations. ❤
I just want to add that you guys blindly picked three Band Maid songs at random. You could do that all day long and never find the bad ones. Their Yokohama show was 3 1/2 hours long and 33 songs. They scheduled a follow up show a month later for the 20+ hit songs they didn’t have time to play.

I think great musicians often make bad music. They get egotistical and think they don't need to be entertaining or make an emotional connection with their fans. Or write good songs.
OK, you're really good at guitar. We get it. Give it a rest. I'm not saying this is Band-Maid. I'm agreeing with you.

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 9 годин тому

Well, Saiki's lyrics in HATE? are pretty violent and they are all about how terrible the world is... 😂
Saiki also has some tattoos, so, she falls quite well into that description of "worship me because I'm great" theme.
The only difference is that she is stunningly beautiful, and when a beautiful (and tattooed) girl says a boy cheated on her and she wants him to burn in hell, well... We tend to unconditionally agree with her, right? Especially if she sings about it like a roaring Leviathan of the deep, and her friends back her statement up with violent bass, violent guitar, and violent drums.

    • @MusicMike747
      @MusicMike747 9 годин тому +1

@@VladimirChupin I hear you 👍🏽 The lyrics are one of the reasons why I’m not a fan of “Hate?” It stands in stark contrast to Miku’s lyrics.
While no fan of tattoos myself, Saiki’s arm tattoo “Love is Strong” seems harmless.
Even on their worst day, I still don’t see Band Maid blending with the angry, bloody satanic stereotype metal style.
Love our Maids 💕 and my fellow fans 🤘🏽

I enjoyed this because I had more or less the same reaction when I first discovered them (less than two years ago). I actually ignored the incessant YT recommendations because I thought they might be a fun gimmick or parody band. Nothing wrong with that but I wasn't interested enough to listen. Then I caught part of one of their live videos by chance and I realized how wrong I was. Leaving the occasional comment (or three) on some reactions is my penance.
Such an excellent band with truly interesting music. It's hard to peg what style/sub-genre they play and that's the way the band likes it. It's like supercharged alternative hard rock. And it's damn great.

Thank you for your wonderful reaction. I hear many fans around the world say, "Rock is not declining. It has been perfected in Japan." A characteristic of Japanese rock is the incredible technique of playing each instrument. It is said that the songs use many chords and often change keys. Babymetal, Lovebites, One OK Rock, and many others are active overseas. Band Made toured across America last year, stopping at about 15 locations, and most of the shows were sold out. This year they are touring domestically. Maybe they'll go on an overseas tour again next year? They're releasing great new songs one after another. Enjoy. (Translation software used)🤩

On the costumes: They're inspired by servers in Japanese maid cafes. There's no actual connection to the music itself. The look is mostly ironic and meant to subvert expectations. In that sense, they're kind of punk rock. The other intent is actually genuine as they feel like they exist to "serve" music and fun to their audience. They even call their concerts "servings."
By all available evidence, they're really lovely people, too. Super-accomplished but down-to-earth women with big senses of humor who also happen to be the closest of friends. Their live show is one of the most unique out there. Awesome musical performance with fun and games, goofing off, and several running gags. See them live when they come back to the US/North America. They tour here pretty often.

You were spot on about anime music. It’s not that the band’s sound like Anime music, it’s that these bands are contracted do Anime sound tracks. Band maid have done a number of Anime soundtracks.
All Japanese bands add chanting and call response sections in there songs for the audience. I live in Japan and go to a lot of live concerts ( have seen Band Maid live in Japan a number of times) Japanese audiences are generally very conservative so the addition these section’s allows the audience to get involved.
The other thing I love about live music in Japan is there are no cameras allowed. Which means everyone is actually watching and enjoying the band and you’re not trying to see them through a sea of mobile phones.

Great reaction guys. BAND-MAID have a 130+ song catalogue. Not a band song there, although obviously you will like some more that others. That last video was from the finale of their 10th anniversarry tour at Yokohama arena last November, their largest concert to date. Yokohama arena has 17,000 capacity, not full but a hellava lot of fans their from all over the world. I subscribed to the livestream of it and it was fantastic. They played for more than 3.5 hours and a 33 song set list, hard rock, ballads, acoustic, punky, some almost metal, solo vocals and piano from the vocalist Saiki. The guitarist Kanami is their main composer, but has no selfish ego, she writes a song and puts it out to her band mates to add to and amend. She always writes songs that allow her band mates to shine (often I think restraining herself, often short but sharp solos). You may have noticed the bass is usually featured way up front, not surprising as Misa is such a great bassist. Same members as when they started 2013. I admire the way they have worked, they have done it the old traditional hard way, constant touring at home and in Europe and the USA. Playing very small venues, driiving themselves about and carting their equipment about. Because of this they have honed their craft and are a very tight band, both musically and personally, they (unlike a lot of western bands) are the best of friends. Better stop or I will come across as a fanboy!! Oh other Japanese bands to check out are Nemophila, Lovebites, Gacharic Spin

A few of my favorite BAND-MAID songs:
THRILL (MV) Their first music video and the one that saved the band. Their music label had decided to drop them, but they gave them one last chance. It got over 2 million views in about three weeks and the record label decided to keep them. 11 years and over 130 songs later they’ve become an international phenomenon.
From Now On (MV) an amazing instrumental
    SHAMBLES (MV) Hard rocker
    MANNERS (MV) a bluesy number
Secret Maiko Lips - (MV) Performed in traditional Japanese Maiko dress and makeup.

Roger Chance and the carrier pigeons strike again. Guys, if start reacting to Band-Maid, someone will give you a full rundown on the band, it's history, it's members, and their huge fandom called the Maidiacs. A lot of us are old geezers who have fallen back in love with rock because of the VERY talented young Japanese females. The will defy each and every rock genre because they create their music often incorporating more than one genre into a song. Now, I suggest you listen to two recently released songs, "Hate?", the official live video, and "Bestie", the official music video.
Another note, Band-Maid and The Warning recently did a two-man concert in Tokyo. During their time together touring Japan and practicing, the collaborated on a song titled "Show Them", which will be released on Band-Maid's upcoming album. They performed the song together for the first time at the end of Band-Maid's set during the concert. Believe me, it's a hard rock banger. There was a bootleg video of the live song on UA-cam which was quickly taken down and the people who showed it were given copyright strikes.

Band-Maid has done a few anime themes: "Glory", "Sense", "Different", "Shambles", "Corallium", and "Protect You".
For Band-Maid, they call their maid outfits their 'Battle Armor' and they call their concerts 'Okyu-ji" or 'Servings' according to their "Maid Café" theme. Mid concert the rhythm guitarist leads the audience in "Omajinai Time" (Magic Time) where she has the audience shouting out a magic spell (basically cheerleading) to bless the concert, meanwhile, the rest of the band is trolling her in various ways. This band has a fierce sense of humor that offsets how seriously they take their music. The joke is that these 5 cute maids are unexpectedly beyond anything you might imagine them to be.
To give their vocalist a break, they do instrumentals. "Onset" and "From Now On" are both awe inspiring.
This is a band you have to see live. They not only perform at a high level of musicianship, their showmanship nails it everywhere on the planet. I saw them last May in Detroit. I had a group of Argentinians moshing next to me who had flown in specifically to see Band-Maid in a small club. During a break the lead vocalist was asking the audience how far they had come to see them. One guy had come from Japan and another from Ireland. When touring Japan they regularly see people who've flown in from the Americas, Australia, and Europe just to see them.
Yes, they are THAT GOOD that you can simply pick songs at random from their catalog and you will not be disappointed. And they're not a 'one-trick-pony', like many Japanese bands, they mix and match genre and they do all of them well.
If you want Japanese bands that do crazy and shocking, Try *Maximum The Hormone* or *Hanabie.* they mix it up in blender and produce miracles. Try "A.L.I.E.N." or "We Like Sweets". Another band that puts the Japanese spin on Heavy metal is all female *Nemophila* -try there song "Oiran"

Band Maid to me are a breath of fresh air from scowling tatted up guy's dressed in black showing off every musical trick that they know in the first 10 seconds of every song. The ladies in Band Maid smile and look like they are having fun. They actually seem to really like and respect each other and and at times appear to be having more fun than their audience ( if that is possible) Band Maid are the most adorable musical badasses in the universe. Their origin stories for each member is amazing. They are The greatest musical superheroes in our galaxy.

There's nothing wild about them except for how wildly good they are. If you want to get more of a sense of "the gap", as they call the contrast between their maid look and their music, look for the video of them performing at Lollapalooza last year and watch through their opening instrumental, From Now On. A lot of people in the crowd probably had no idea they were going to get their faces melted by Japanese maids.

The funny thing is, _as studio tracks,_ for Band-Maid, Domination may not be a top 30 studio track, Hate isn't a top 50 studio track, and Freedom isn't a top 60 Band-Maid studio track IMHO. I say that genuinely and others may disagree the exact ranking, but you can ask 100 different Maidiacs for an unranked top 3, 5, 10 and 20 list and you're going to get 100 different responses for each list. They span so many genres of rock as well. The have a unique song for just about every combination of Rock, Metal, Punk and Pop you can think of. I would suggest checking out Moratorium live, Puzzle live and No God live. It's not the best representation of their range, but they're some of my favorites.
You may not agree after only three songs, but I bet you at least understand why Maidiacs believe Band-Maid is the best band today.

Welcome Yusuf, Manuel and Brendan. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 200 million views just on their official YT channel, plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:

BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom.
Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular!
Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on.
But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ua-cam.com/video/7LB_EPS48HE/v-deo.html)
And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. ua-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:
 2023 Yokohama 10th Year Anniversary Concert “Endless Story” ua-cam.com/video/Za1y-RRVd70/v-deo.html
     ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” ua-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/v-deo.html
     Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” ua-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/v-deo.html
     ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” ua-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/v-deo.html
 Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.
And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:
 Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: ua-cam.com/video/DgxU-MVjta0/v-deo.html
     See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: ua-cam.com/video/vjZkNeoGmhc/v-deo.html
If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

    Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen!
Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!!
Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more!
Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party!
MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!
Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans.
    [BAND-MAID NEWS]
 BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo
 The Maids SOLD OUT 2023 US & Mexico tour wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! In addition, their Japan tour finished up with 13 concerts, AND they’re writing and recording for their new album. Their 10th Anniversary Tour concluded at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26, 2023 and in Hong Kong Dec. 21! And their latest 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR SPIN OFF concert at KT ZEPP YOKOHAMA on February 22, 2024, where they played songs not performed at the 10th anniversary tour final at Yokohama Arena, was SOLD OUT, as usual!

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Band-Maid is one of the best bands in our country, especially in live performance. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

These are three songs very representative of their live performances. Band-Maid is a band that composes its own music, drawing inspiration from the classic hard rock of the 70s and 80s but giving it a modern sound by adding different kinds of rock but also blues, jazz, funk etc. They are increasingly asked to do anime songs (Glory, Sense, Different, Shambles) which is a great mark of recognition. The song Protect You for the Grendizer anime will be officially released on July 5. Thanks guys.

If you want something wild, yeah there are some.
Of course they are rock-core, so there's no metal growl, but you can still hear gritty rock voice here and there. And it has to be live version if you want to hear Saiki's
    "grit".
Their recent fast and chaotic style songs have explosive drums (still with multiple rhythmic patterns

    More bands? Ok!
BAND-MAID - Hard rock + punk, metal, pop, blues, funk, etc. 'Puzzle' live, 'Blooming' music video, 'RINNE' mv. 'Dice' mv
*Hanabie* - Harajukucore, a mix of metal, pop, rap, punk, electronica and a little bit of everything else. 'We Love Sweets', 'TOUSOU', and their newest video, 'GIRL'S TALK'.
The Warning - Hard rock band out of Mexico comprised of 3 sisters. 'Evolve' live MTV music awards, 'Automatic Sun' music video, 'Dust to Dust' Live at Lunario.
Saiseiga - A metalcore band with an amazing vocalist. 'Jumble', 'Hanabi', or try 'Sink' for something more ballad-ish.
Banshimoku - Punk, funk, and more. 'Spanky Alien' was my introduction to the band.
Otoboke Beaver - Straight-up punk. 'Don't Light My Fire' has one of the best, yet most simple, videos I've ever seen.
DOLL$BOXX - Metal, electronic, pop, funk, etc. 'Take My Chance', 'Shout Down', 'Monopoly'
Sokoninaru - They play, uh... _super_ technical everything. you'll just have to watch the video. 'Tenohira De Odoru'
Maximum the Hormone - Metal, plus fifteen other genres. Sometimes in the same song. 'Yoshu Fukushu' is a good place to start.
Asterism - Prog metal 3-piece instrumental band. Hal-Ca's guitar skill will explode your brain, 'Gunfire' live session, 'Church' live session. 'Dawn' live
LOVEBITES - Power/thrash metal. 'Holy War' live, 'Thunder Vengeance' live, 'Stand and Deliver (Shoot'em Down)' music video
Gacharic Spin - Rock, electronic, funk, pop, metal. 'Mindset' mv, 'I Wish I' mv, 'Redline' live.
Plenty more bands if you finish this list.

...and a small pigeon shall lead them, under the watchful eye of His Holiness, TinyHat-san who leads BAND-MAID to the "Unseen World" on the way to "World Domination."
I've been making music for money since 1966, and these ladies are world-class. The best live rock band on the planet.

Current female bands I'd recommend from around the world. Lovebites (Japanese Power Metal, talent level is = to Band-Maid). Fate Gear (Japanese Steampunk). East of Eden (Japanese Rock). Rolling Quartz (Korean Rock and a amazing vocalist). The Warning (Mexico Rock - must see). Honorable mention to Sixsters from Ukraine.

Like hanging with you guys. You played into Band-Maids strengths by only selecting live performances. Some bands dumb down their songs for live shows, Band-Maid does quite the opposite.

I wish reactors would STOP referencing 'Metal' as the genre for BandMaid. They are not Metal. They are hard rock. And other sub genres of rock. but not metal.

    • @ApexRadius
      @ApexRadius 5 днів тому +3

True, they don't fit neatly into any one sub-genre, for sure, and calling them "metal" sets the wrong expectation. But don't be too hard on people. There are plenty of metal elements in their music. I think the idea that they "play multiple genres" is not quite accurate. The vast majority of their music fits into the very broad category of hard rock but incorporates elements/influences from other styles, mostly from other rock sub-genres, including metal. (Not to mention that there's sometimes a pretty fine line between hard rock and metal.)
"One and Only" is basically an alternative rock song but, somehow, incorporates palm-muted syncopated metal chugging in the verses (it's genius). "I Still Seek Revenge," is basically groove metal and has a thrash metal middle section and solo. "Warning" has rock, punk, and metal influences all over it. There are dozens of more examples.
The band listens to metal and like metal, amongst other kinds of music. And some of their other influences, like the Smashing Pumpkins, (Misa), for one, were significantly influenced by metal.

    • @785boats
      @785boats 4 дні тому

@@ApexRadius I can only agree with everything you just said, Apex. Yes they have influences from metal in some songs. But why do people tell reactors that the Maids are a metal band, so that is what the reactors introduce them as.

    • @ApexRadius
      @ApexRadius 4 дні тому

@@785boats I think it's just tricky defining genres/sub-genres, sub-sub-genres, styles, etc. Plus, those definitions have changed over time and, to confuse the issue even more, not everyone agrees on the definitions. Young people might not even consider Iron Maiden as metal, for example.
I think it's right to set the correct expectations. This isn't a metal band, per se. It's a hybridized sound that certainly includes metal. But some people hear agressive distorted guitars, drums, and bass and they define it as metal.

    • @785boats
      @785boats 4 дні тому +1

@@ApexRadius I'm with you on all that man. I grew up in the 70's with Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heap, etc. The foundation of Metal. Then there were bands like Pantera, Motorhead, Megadeath, Saxon, Scorpions, Slayer,. As you said, Some of the younger pups wouldn't consider some of them as Metal.
But I thank the Gods that the Maids do extract some of the Metal DNA from the great bands and weave it into some of their music. As an old 66yo rocker, I love these little women to tiny bits, for what they have done for music over the last decade.
      Cheers.
