    I totally agree, super rewarding and one of the best options for beginners. I got a group of nine adult plus fry for almost a year and that is by far the easier and best looking aquarium I ever had. By the way, it looks like I have very similar preferences than yours since I also have an asian hillstream tank. May the Force be with you

    Are these the same ones from the 10 gallon? Cause I've noticed with mine that the alpha male of the colony will patrol an area about the same footprint as a 10 gallon (1ftx2ft). I started my colony with 5 adults in a 20 Long about seven months ago and my colony is pushing 50-60 already and thats just the adults and juvies that started getting their stripes, not counting small fry. I'm about to move them up to a 40 breeder tomorrow and gonna try to keep the colony going with paracyprichromis above them. What do you feed yours Rachel?

    • @RachelOLeary

      @vanquatics7891 6 років тому

      Thanks I saw the O-Nip tabs right after I posted the comment. I also know you sell the multis so I was just curious if these were the same ones from the 10 gallon. Was more wondering if you noticed any change in pecking order within the colony or anything like that after moving them from the 10 to the 75. I guess thats how I should have worded it. Cause I'm about to move my whole colony and just wondering if I should expect any change in behavior right after the move.

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  6 років тому

      yep! same group. They went from lip locking and engaging constantly to a much more chill behavior in the bigger tank.

    Rachael Please help. I lost one of my hill stream loaches today. And then I noticed my loaches and bristled nose plecos acting funny. Darting around jumping from spot to spot. Ammonia was okay and my nitrites were high. Ph was dead on seven. I immediately did a water change and am keeping a close eye on them. The tank is a community tank with neons beings he predominant species. Three Bristol noses and four loaches. Other then that. Cherry shrimp. Any advice on what to watch for ? Keep in mind I’m pretty new to the hobby but I take it very seriously on taking care of my fish. Thank you and have a great night.

    Hii @Rachel Oleary. I'm researching and getting ready to set up an aquarium for shell dwellers to add to my fish room. One question I have that I have not found an answer to is, can one keep more than one species of shell dwellers in either a 75 gallon or 90-gallon aquarium, and are there ane other 'nano' Lake Tanganyika cichlids that would peacefully cohabitate with them? Thank you.

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  5 років тому

      Most of the tangs will eat the shellie fry. Paracyprichromis are a good choice. You probably could get away with multiple species of shellie, though I have to imagine some sort of hybridization could be possible so my inclination would be to have one huge colony of one type, then a rock climbing or top water species.

    • @annalee7403
      @annalee7403 5 років тому

      @@RachelOLeary Thank you for the prompt reply. My main goals are to avoid predation and hybrization, so I will go with your recommendation of one large colony of one type.

  • @Xn7000
    @Xn7000 6 років тому

    What size Escrgo shell do you use for these? None of the vendors I've looked at have really given a good indication of the shell size. I sort of assume extra large is the way to go, but if "large" is well, large enough as well that opens up color options.

    • @dgstanks7447

      XnFM For mine I buy hermit crab shells a various sizes, cause smaller ones work for the young when mom chases them out, medium for females and a couple big ones for your Dominant males. And Escargot shells dissolve

      Naomi Post Nope. they cost the same as if the fish were in stock at petco. Just call them up or to the store and ask to special order them. However, I do suggest Geiler aquatics, they have great pricing on these multifaciatus

    • @-l-2377
      @-l-2377 6 років тому

      PetCo cannot order Multifasicatus, Similis or Ocellatus.
      We order through Fish International and Segrest Farms and both no longer carry any Shell Dwellers.
      Most websites no longer do either, took me a week to actually find these guys and it was Similis I found. (for a reasonable price)
      This fish is becoming rather rare in the hobby get, stock, and breed them while you can.
