- We've been busy getting ready for summer. In this video we share all the overland modifications and DIY projects we have completed over the last 3 years on this 2019 Toyota 4runner TRD premium overlanding rig. From tires, suspension, off-road lighting to a custom made rear fridge and drawer system, this 4runner is ready for some action.
Below is a list of the gear that I walk through on this rig.

Very good vehicle
Thank you!
Nice looking truck! I like the solar water tank idea. Going to have to incorporate that into my squaredrop build.
Thank you. It works great and simple to make.
Great rear drawer system with an ingenious way to hide a large table! Major props for the mention of Erector Set...takes me way back in time.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Great ideas. This video reminds me of the great Guru instructing people of the windup affect. It is more fun to prepare to do something than it is to actually do it. Example // Start of fishing season. Days/weeks organizing the boat, shopping, mapping your favorite lake and then that day comes and you go fishing for like 2 hrs. 🙃🙃 I hope you can get out there and all these great trinkts you added to your Toyota.
Wow😍 this 4runner is fully equipped for a trip. I'm sure people travelling with you are enjoying it.
Congrats on your channel! Looking forward to your adventures, currently working on my 4R build!
I'm impressed! I can tell you are a perfectionist and it shows. I mean that in a good way. Excellent planning and forethought went into your baby!
Very nice. I am currently in the middle of building out my vehicle. I will be utilizing some of your ideas
Thanks for great breakdown and giving us ideas!! 👌
My pleasure!
Excellent fabrication work!
Thank you
Very nice build and really like the drawer and fridge system. I am not into a lot of Steel in a Overland Build more of a Aluminum guy to save weight, in a Rock Crawler Steel is the way to Go. I am not a winch Guy because they are used so in frequent as traction boards will do a majority of the time and common sense. I also want to preserve MPG as 98% is on road vs off road as mine is a daily driver. I went TRD Pro with Greenland Rocksliders and when the tires wear out I will go 275 70 17R because I will not have to modify suspension, but I will have less ground clearance than you by 1/4 inch. Hope to see you on the trail.
Awesome build!!!
Thank you!
That 4r is ready for combat !
Great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job! Very impressive.
Thank you very much!
Nice rig 🤙🏾
Looks great! I really like how you mounted your air compressor.
I appreciate that. Thank you.
Lots of custom touches.. and you probably saved a ton because you didn't buy the canned solutions. Nicely done!
Thank you. DIY just ads so much more to the overall experience.
I love your setup!!! I was smiling the whole time watching this. Very cool! I am interesting in your modified Viper cut. Is there a template for it? are things pretty exposed once you make the cuts?
I did not follow a template. The C4 high clearance side additions require a really high cut. I didn’t want to be that aggressive so I kept it about 2 inches lower. I just followed the lines on the truck so it looks intentional. You will need to cut and zip tie the fender liner. I would use a dremel with a plastic cutting wheel. It cuts it very nice. And then I just took a vibrating sander and cleaned it up. It’s a very simple mod. I’d suggest marking it with tape first on both sides to make sure you are symmetrical and like the line.
Great video.
I just got the OVS 270 awning for my 4Runner, do you think the rear hatch will obstruct the last 90deg of the awning?
Thank you. From what i have read if you mount the 270 much higher, it will work, but the hatch is the main reason I went with the 180. Let me know how it goes.
What a shame they don’t bring the 4 runner to Australia. I’ve got an outback which is great but not quite as capable. That’s a fantastically thought out setup.
Thank you. I’ve owned an Outback. One of my favorite vehicles.
Yeah but you guys get the 79 series and Prado and diesels.
Hello, great rig! With the Toytec lift needing sway bar mount relocation and diff drop, what modifications were needed to fit the TRD skid plate?
It’s been over a year since I installed the lift so I need to refresh my memory. I know I had to get longer bolts. Some 50 or 60mm from the hardware store. But I think with the radiator drop as well it just bolted right back on with the longer bolts. I’m taking it off in a week or so to do some work. I’ll look and get back to you with my exact solve. It’s mounted solid, so I know I figured out the solution. Stay tuned.
Great, will check back. Thank you.
Nicely done...when is that Toyota Rally? and Where in Wisconsin? Any more info about that? Thanks
Tigerton OHV Park. Weekend of May 19th. This is the first year so it is small. I think there was something like 50 spots. Sold out in about a day. @WanderlostOverland organized the whole thing. Check them out on UA-cam.
Are you happy with the Toytec suspension? I hear the coilovers are prone to leaking. Any concerns from your perspective? Thx! Great video!
Thanks for the reply. I can only find issues related to the shocks leaking on the old Toytec boss coil overs that were also non-rebuildable. I haven’t come across anyone saying they have had that issue with the 2.0 and newer coilovers. The new ones are also rebuildable. Let me know if you’ve heard that about the newer Boss Aluma series.
What brand hose and sprayer is attached to the pvc tank? Thanks!
I got it at a place in the Midwest called Menards. It’s like a Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Nice! You could sell the stuff you made.
Do you pitch a tent or use rooftop tents?
I use a ground tent. MSR Mutha Hubba 3 Person. Great in any kind of weather especially wind and rain.
Nice video! where did you buy the tie downs?
Thank you! I bought them on Amazon. Here’s a link. 22 Pieces Cooler Tie-Down Strap... www.amazon.com/dp/B08T7B4KSP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@@destinationjourney_overland thank you very much
Can ya supercharge that engine? Just wondering if it’s worth the extra power.
Has all the power I need
I don't see your sleep system, what does that look like?
I used a MSR Mutha Hubba 3 man ground tent. ua-cam.com/video/mkl2MRBW1x8/v-deo.html you can see it in this video at minute 2:20
How do you sleep in it?
I use a ground tent
need a gas tank upgrade
Maybe next year!
LRA in the spare location if you have your spare somewhere else.
where do you sleep at ?
I’ve been sleeping in my MSR Mutha Hubba ground tent for years. It has got me through all kinds of weather. It’s amazing in rain and wind.
Great car can I buy it for 800 dollars and a 10 gallon fish tank. That's all I got. No low balls my fish tank is awsome
