- DEALERS DUMPING TRUCKS At Auctions! They Take MAJOR LOSSES!
In this video you will get to see what car dealers are actually paying for trucks at a used car dealer auction!
My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

18000 for a 10 year old work truck with a manual? People are idiots paying these prices.
iIs a toyota and they will ask at least 21500 on the lot. That is insane.
@@whatever-dp9tg Toyotas are great but they are so overhyped by fanboys it's crazy.
@whois3581 Not those 4.0s. Tacomas with that 4.0s last forever regardless which transmission and highly desirable now.
I can sell it for 40k😂
Nah Toyotas are not that great. Definitely overhyped. Solid cars for sure but they have their own problems like everything else.
We are in a timeline when trucks go for 80-120K. That's buying a private airplane levels of money. That's 30 year mortgage money in some rural parts. When trucks are 30-50K again I might buy a new one. (will never happen)
Yup, I'll buy when prices come back to reality. I don't need GPS, cameras, Sirius XM, sensors or any of that garbage. I need a vehicle that can drive from A to B, not the Batmobile. Brand new trucks should be 15-20k tops.
how does that 2014 tacoma go for 18K but the newer ford raptor doesnt even hit 20K?
You don’t think people had similar thoughts 15ish years ago when trucks started cracking over 20k? There used to be a time a new truck was 1k if you talk to boomers.
I bought me a new 6.2 liter Ford 250, 4x4, STX Package in 2018. Paid just under 42k OTD. This same truck today would be close to 60k, if not more.
@@p.chuckmoralesesquire3965
I can sell that Toyota for 40k because it says Toyota and people will mortgage their soul if it says Toyota no matter how many miles. People don't think they break down.
Now that you read that, count how many are out there when you go to work/store/mall
...You'll realize it's a numbers game when you see every 3rd car on the side of the road is also a Toyota 😂
18k for a 10 year old truck with 100k and it’s starting to rust … ppl are insane
And they will sell it for 22,000 I bet. That is way to much!
Toyota has become the Stanley cup insanity for dudes that don't really have a clue what they're buying and just jumping on the popular trend because that's the echo chamber of the internet. Sure, it'll do a pretty good job at performing what it's meant to do. But is it really worth paying 4times the price of what it should be worth, and gossiping on the internet thinking you're in some elite club and that no other "cup" is capable of holding liquid? So much fanboy hype these people should be embarrassed and ashamed of how goofy they've become.
I sold toyotas for a couple years and trust me they break just like the rest of them.
Especially if you don't do the expensive maintenance
5k maximum in the UK
@@KoolKatsFishinggo find a dealer who will let you look at NADA values on that truck wholesale what was paid and retail rate its shape be honest and you'll come back with about 22k to 24k in value
Whats really funny is what was its original sticker price new.
Yes Toyota is my choice of car
I've had some 17 of them over the last 45 years and i won't buy anything else.
My exp with the brand is you can drive them day after day and abuse them and still get 300k miles off one with almost added work or parts. I always buy Factory parts.
My favorite: "Bids start at $20,000....no bids!"
A 10 year old ford F150 factory lifted with some stuff on it? I wouldn't pay $18,000 for it with 170k miles. LOL! I wonder what it will sell for on a lot.
its worth 10
@@Shadow_Banned_Conservative lifted: translation.. all the suspension is shot.. steering components warped... lol
@@ferriswheeler08At 170k miles for sure the suspension is shot. That is all factory though, right? Isn't Raptor an off road package?
@@Shadow_Banned_Conservative ''off road package'' is dealership words for upcharging you with a sticker or logo lol
I’ve been to several car auctions in my life and every one of the I noticed they paid the same as what you would pay at a dealership. I stopped going to auctions when I noticed individuals that would walk around bit to raise the price but never bought any cars!
18k for that garbage Tacoma!????
2wd too!
I hope they checked the frame first lol
@@hochhaul Frame had a sticker on it, so I think it has been replaced.
They will spray paint it up and dickover some unsuspecting poor bastard.

Let’s be honest; we ALL thought we were stylin’ in our first car 😂 I had a 1981 Honda Prelude and if you closed one eye and squinted at dusk it looked sorta like an Aston Martin😅
I didnt "think" i was stylin 😂. I was stylin
If you were lucky enough to have a car in high school you were ahead of the game.
My first car was a 1980 Honda civic station wagon
I hope you had the 5 speed, and not the "HondaMatic".
Bro , I drove my first vehicle to high school with a hole in the windshield. A 4" hole and covered with grey duct tape 😅😂
The rack in the back of the black Tacoma is for off-roading it’s not a lumber rack, it’s made for holding a roof top tent and off-road gear it’s called a bed rack, look up overland bed rack and you will see what it’s for. Just letting you know what it’s for
Truck prices are way too much. Simply not replacing my truck at these stupid prices.
I can't believe there are so many high mileage cars. I live in New England. Rust kills our cars before high mileage can be achieved.
yea, if i saw something with 200000 miles thats gonna be an instant no for me lol
High mileage cars are pretty common out here in the US, many of them with over 200k
ive got a jeep wrangler I bought a 2004 RH drive here in NC (200K on the ticker) didn't even have to sand one spot on the frame or body for rust just strip it etch and paint . Everyone from up north is like how's this thing still in one piece , lol.
@@ricksterallain I look at is, thats are car that someone took good care of. I wont pay these asking prices for a high milage car, but in neck of the woods, the pickup truck with 280k miles on it and alil body rust ends up going to 500k+ before it quits and ya pay maybe 2 to 3k for it tops. Last two work trucks I bought with close to 300k miles and got close to 10 years worth of work pulling my landscaping trailer around all day. All the older low milage ones beingup for sale tell me something is wrong with it. Grampa used to always tell me if a truck lived long enough to start rusting, its gonna last a long time if you give it abit of TLC. bought a old 95 ram for 700 dollars, body looked horrendous and retired it with 891k miles on the body/frame and put just shy of 600k on the first motor, the 2nd motor I didnt get to find out how long it would run, idiot T boned me and totaled it. I was so mad I wanted to try to hit the 1mil mark the frame/body.
@@pepsilove6306 no car can survive to 300k miles here, let alone 500k. At 200k you're lucky if it's not completely falling apart. I mean sure, if you want to get a junker for a couple thousand that's gonna cost you a fortune to maintain and last a couple years go for it but its just not worth the headaches. At 200k with the amount of salt here, there's no way that thing is in good shape. Doesn't matter if the frame is aluminum because anything on that car made of steel is gonna be rusted like crazy. ONLY way it could be possible is if it wasn't driven during winter, but even then the salt from being next to the ocean still isn't good.
Tried to buy a new 2500 AT4 Duramax this weekend, they sent me their offer, I asked them to come up $3k on my trade in, they said we're going to pass on your offer, thanks for the opportunity. Didn't counter, didn't say that was the best they could do, just done. It also had $2,500 in dealer add on BS - etching, interior treatment, bed cover...Dealers aren't hurting too bad.
I just bought a new Jeep Wrangler and they dinged me $299 for window etching!
Keep trying online. Only deal with the internet sales manager. Left over inventory. I drove 3hrs to save 3k.
Go to ram they have good deals going on the 2500

Ford, Dodge and GM have made it so middle class people would never buy there products.. because they cant. I make decent money but I don't wanna spend it on a 100K truck. SMH I could but it would be the dumbest thing I ever did as I ate hot dogs for 6 years.
The tip about checking for rust underneath the car is a good one! Especially if you're buying a car from a colder climate 👍
In So Cal. most of the vehicles will suffer from stop a go driving. Body and frame are usually in decent condition as there is rain now and then, no snow.
I bought my '14 tacoma 6 years ago for 9500, thanks to my friend in the car business. Had 64,000 on it. 121,000 now, just replaced the rear brakes.
50 grand for a truck that’s crazy
😂🤣😆
I wouldn’t give 10k
BTW, the Nissan truck you were showing, those were called Hardbodies. Back in California where I grew up in the 80s all the kids have those lowered slammed to the ground.
Mini truck seen.

depending on what kinda condition the motor and transmission was, just the body being in that nice a shape they go for a fortune in my neck of the rustbelt. I woulda bit on it just to bring it up north and flip it cause I know someone will pay out the nose for it just to project swap it.
Don't forget the Dodge D-50!
Funny how truck commercials show these large screen TV's, computer systems and concert venues built into the trucks. Try building basic transportation that most people can afford.
Let me tell you about my first car since you told us about your first car. It was a 54 Chevy bell air. I lived on long Island with more salt on the road in all the seas in the world. The floor had rusted away. One day the rust caused my muffler to fall to the road. To fix the muffler I took a coat hanger and looped it around my muffler pipe and the parking brake setting. Only problem was when it rained and I drove through a puddle the water would get on the muffler and the steam would get into the car and condense on all the windows. I had a paper towel in the car to wipe the windows. But like you I was bad. I had my car and I was king of the road. Thank you Ben
Mine was a tired old 67 Ford Fairlane my uncle had wrecked chasing a moonshiner. All the county kept was the bubble light.
As a 15 year old, it never occurred to me that running in the ditch tweaked the frame. You couldn't control the steering over about 65, but on those winding country roads, that was a thrill ride!
It was a heavy, clumsy, beast that forever smelled of beer and puke and stale cigars. The heater was a surly AI before the computer era, that only worked when it wanted to, and it had never came with air, just wing windows. That 390 was a good engine, but the electrical system was a nightmare complicated by inmate repairs.
Yeah, but at 70+, I wish I could drive that old heap just one more time.😎👍
😂 that's a great story! The things we did back then to our cars (got my first car in the 70s)!

Agreed, way to go Brandon
People want AFFORDABLE CARS now... not LAND YACHTS that cost more than a rent payment to drive to work.
The fact that these super high mileage cars are getting this much means the used car market is still too high.

Hey, Branden, I judge you to be informative and entertaining at the same time, so there!
Thanks for keeping us informed and entertained.
Everyone in salt areas should be applying an anti rust oil annually or every other year. Here in Canada we have Krown, Rust Check, and Corrosion Free (the best one as tested by Canadian military and what I use now). You must have something similar in the US. My 11 year old Honda had zero rust and my 6 yr old truck is the same. A mechanic recently commented that my truck looks like it’s 1 year old underneath.
Fellow Canuck here, and yes, you are right.
Yes, there's under coating available but a lot of people don't use it 🙄 then they complain that the vehicles rust out 🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️
Thanks for the info
That Nissan Hardbody was in really good shape. I probably would have bought it and driven it as a daily.
Yes. Grew up with 86 and 90 nissan pickup and hard body. Love them. Miss driving those. Absolutely would use as my daily.
I don’t know dude, just watching you to relax little after work for no particular reason. I have been a subscriber for about a year. Keep doing the good work 🎉
Auction prices still amaze me considering the mileage. Keep up the good videos, enjoy the learning and following along!
Talk about Toyotas I was in a Toyota Corolla in Pismo Beach California Uber driver had it he had 47,000 rides and the car had 475,000 Mi on it original engine and transmission it turned 475 when I was in it the guy was my hero they go forever
I enjoy your content. I'm not in the market, but your remarks help me see what's going on in all markets.
Someone paid thousands too much for that clapped out Tacoma.
Then they will add 4000 and sell it
I would say at least 75% of the tacomas that we buy at auction our arbitrated for holes in the frame. You wouldn't guess looking at the top half. They always run perfectly. They're just getting ready to break in half that's all.
Sometimes you can’t see by just glancing underneath either. You have to CRAWL underneath. Get your ass under the truck and look at the interior of the frame.
Crazy how bad the older ones (like early 2010s and back)can be
NC, WA, OR cars are generally rust free and sun-bake free.
To remove stickers from glass or paint, first pull and lift with the help of a razor blade.
Next get a can of carburetor starting fluid . Spray it on the sticky glue. It will disolve it . Wipe off the glue with a rag or paper towel. FINALLY spray area with glass cleaner to remove all the carburetor cleaner. Otherwise it can disolve and discolor the paint.
I own several hundred sticker vending machines . I use this merhod everyday. It works good ! 😊
That Charger your buddy was checking out was a police or detective vehicle, with the hole in the trunk and AWD v8 - could be sweet or could be crap

Just rebuilding my old vehicles….like in Cuba! Great times!
Hey Brandon
Thanks for all the time and effort you spend keeping us informed and entertained. Loved your story about your first car. Mine was a used 1960 Cadillac convertible that I bought in '69 for $225.00
It had a crumpled left front fender that I replaced with one from a junkyard and a transmission that, from time to time, wouldn't go into reverse.
You told us that you thought you were hot stuff in the Tiburon. I was much worse, as I worked as a Cabana boy in the summertime and was always trying to impress the ladies with that ragtop ! 🤦
Thanks again. 👌
I live in maine the salt is aweful .. they spread so much when it's not needed.. no sand even... Its bad you can get a half a wheel barrow at almost any stop sign .. people have trouble even getting alignments on some vehicles... There are plenty up here that have 140k and are completely trashed due to rust and rotted..
That Ford was not a truck, it was an overpriced toy. 😢

The raptor went $200 above the Tacoma. I bet the seller wants $22k min. For $18k I would buy that Raptor without hesitation.

it's a ford. that's end of life.
I bet that raptor needs 3-4 thousand dollars of work to be right
@@akane742 Wont dispute that. It can be expensive to replace things on a raptor. That wouldn't be a deterrent for me.

talk about weather not messing with your car, here in NM, it doesn't even rain much. Always dry. Hardly any snow and we use dirt not salt on the snow when it does come. Nothing rusts except people's swamp coolers who don't clean them at the end of the summer. These are much better than the talking head at a desk.

Thanks for giving me an inside look at these auctions.. crazy prices
Manual transmission are usually less than automatic.. unless things have changed
Right, less people know how or even want to bother equals less demand.
Unless it’s a Ram Cummins
Depends on the crowd. For certain sports cars manual is much more desirable. Certain trucks and SUVs too.
Example: I’d expect a manual FJ Cruiser to go for more than an auto.
if its a daily driver family car/ truck usually auto is king, but if it can be used as work truck usually manual is king [at least in my area.] You announce your lot has a manual truck in my area and every lawncare company that does plowing will show up and fight to the death in ya lot in a battle royal for that truck.
Tacoma 4x4 manual will appeal to off roaders.

My 1st new Toyota truck was in 1989 for 9K before taxes and licensing. It was 120$ a month for my truck payment in 1989. I can not believe how expensive it has become since then. The dealer was 60$ a hour back in the day but now they are charging 360$ at the Toyota dealership for one hour in 2024
Eh, thats is like $300 in 2024. Same payment pretty much today.

True. My local GMC dealer usually has 15 - 20 full size trucks. Today they have 95. Plus they are discounted around $9,000 .. !! And one more thing they are offering 1.9% financing for 3 years through GM Finance. These numbers are approaching break even for GM. Not good at all and I expect even more discounts coming soon. Current US standard of drivers say no
@@Demopans5990Just because something is popular does not make it the right choice.
@xshadow737x5
More just referring to the current laughable standards drivers are held to. A lot of US drivers would not be able to get licensed in Europe, especially in places such as Germany.
The NY DMV basically hands out licenses, while also having what is considered to be the hardest road test in the US. Imagine my surprise when I discover that there are road tests that don't even test basics in other states
@@Demopans5990 When me and my ex lived in germany I laughed so hard, back stateside he thought he was the best dang driver in the world, and wouldnt touch a car with a 10 foot pole if it wasnt manual. not even 2 minutes into his drivers test he failed in germany cause he let the car roll back on a hill by maybe an inch or two pulling out of the parking lot. instructor told him to just back it back into the parking spot they pulled out of, he had failed. As a UA-cam judge. 🧑⚖️ i find you guilty for entertaining me.
I have been to a few car auctions with a friend and the one thing I have never understood is why the auctioneer always has to talk in a way that sounds like gibberish.
Why can't they just talk normally so anyone can understand what they are saying?
When you talk fast, you amp people up and get their adrenaline flowing. The gibberish forces people to focus their attention when an item they want goes for sale.. Focused, amp-ed up people are more likely to keep bidding. There is a lot of interesting science behind this if you wish to research.
Cause you may not get to the top of your budget without the auctioneer's spellbinding presentation😳😳😳
Because that makes sense what you said is why the don't .This world becomes more backwards by the day.

I was looking at trucks this past week, and have decided to wait. The dealers are still as cocky as ever, trying to play the monthly payment game, and they hate cash buyers. I’ve waited 3 years to buy a truck, I guess I’ll just have to wait a little longer 🤷♂️
I love that you are down to earth!
Brandon, I like how you're breaking down the diagnosis of these cars. Love the car walkthroughs. Your humor's great. Very fun and educational. Another segment that would be kind of cool would be going through cars with your mechanic on occasion. What do they look for / avoid in the lot, you know? Could probably make a regular episodes of that sort of things I would imagine. And also common repair issues in the aftermath of buying $5k cars, that's something that would be educational too.
