The seller wanting $21k for that 2015 Silverado with 130k miles is absolutely insane. No person in their right mind would pay that. Looked like a fairly base model LT too. I have a 2017 4x4 Silverado with almost 190k miles and I’d probably be lucky to get $10k.

I’ve got a 22’ Canyon Elevation with just under 13k on the odometer. Mint condition. One owner. KBB appraised it at between $32 and $34k trade in value and $34 to $36k private party. Insane. Carnax offered me $31k sight unseen. I said no way.

As a former recon manager that got cars ready for the auctions in central PA, (including Manheim), I am appalled at the condition that dealers show a car at this auction. A really good detailer with a good old steam extractor and standard cleaning could have made those cars look far better. People are complaining about how they can't get help. A lot of young men do this as a hobby. Get some talent--pay them good and you have detailers for hire. Kids used to do that with the high-end (Audi, Porsche, Saab, Volvo, and Exotics) & these kids (back in the day) had beepers and a portfolio of their work in big binders. They charged high rates because the managers waited until the weekend to call or needed it done yesterday. It worked out for them and a few bought duplexes & then flipped them. Smart kids.

I agree with a thorough recon. I've attended the Manheim in Dallas a hundred times but this auction shown here is much much smaller and attended by those with buy here pay here lots ( tote the note). No franchise dealer buys anything that has a salvage title. These cars will be noted out and repo'd and noted out and repo'd again and again for a big profit. Any repairs needed will be added to the customer's note. They have their own in house mechanic/recon guy.

If I owned a new car dealership - 1) advertise out the door prices and sell them for that. Have a menu board for extended warranty (cost plus $500) and other items customer can choose from. I would have another menu board showing service hourly rates AND what mechanics are paid per hour. Rates would be below market and pay would be above market. I’d sell more cars and attract better/loyal mechanics. I’d make great profit through volume AND be respected in the community. Honesty sells. Take care of the customer and they will take care of the profits.

I would never buy a salvaged car after having accidentally bought one many years ago. It had been in a wreck and was totaled by the insurance company. It was then sent to a sale where someone bought it, 'repaired' it, and sold it, somehow, with a clean title. I tried it out and it was nice, and it drove straight and true - for the test drive. I bought it and went home, but before I made it home 30 miles away, the alignment went out, and it was riding rough. The frame had been bent in the accident, and it was never going to be a good car no matter how pretty it looked. I got lucky that the dealer helped me replace it with something else, but that came close to being a very expensive mistake at a time in my life I couldn't afford such mistakes. The other thing about 'salvage' titles, and even 'rebuilt', I believe, is that insurance companies don't want to insure them, and if they do, they jack their already nuts monthly premiums up even higher.

So many ppl out there falling for this gimmick having no idea what kind of numbers they are screwing you with. Just make the payment affordable. I emailed back listing several reasons why I was a hard no. The vehicle was 3 trims down from what I have, the price was 5k to high, the interest rate was more then double, and it was 84 months. Not too mention all the other parts I’ve put on. You gotta do it yourself. Shop fees are 150 bucks an hour.

Cut off any back facing zipper handles on your cargo type pants etc. Whoever thought putting zippers back there did not try to drive a car with leather seats for long. I never / rarely use these zippers any way and if they wreck my car's driver's seat, I don't want them. The smarter pant designers use velcro in these areas.
