In shatner you see the wisdom of age and the maturity of being 90 years old ! He not only is the oldest person to go into space, he is not a professional astronaut as John Glenn was. His discription of going into space was the best I ever heard and I remember the Apollo program !

Hearing the wonder in William Shatner's words while others are celebrating as if it's a bachelorette really makes you realize that he's the only one who really gets what this experience means for humanity as a whole and confirms that in his heart he really is our Captain Kirk! Everyone can hear music but not everyone can truly listen. Sure, Bezos went to space, but like a duck hearing a Mahler Symphony, he wasn't really listening. He was simply a passive bystander. Shatner had his antenni fully deployed and actively soaked in the experience. While everyone else was goofing around in 0 G, Shatner was "listening".

I know we make light of the fact that we just sent Captain James Tiberius Kirk into space for real. But his reaction is the most genuine for us. He knows at 90 he doesn't have the same amount of time left in this life than his crewmates. For them, their reactions were genuine for them. We may not think that, but as they get older, and they have grandchildren, space travel and tourism might be commonplace. But they'll get to share that the guy on the hundred-year-old TV show that Star Trek film #36 or something is based on rode with them on a rocket when it wasn't so common. How cool is that?

I love Mr Shatner's beautiful descriptions. Yes our Earth is a fragile, living, breathing, majestic lifeform in the vastness of space. I think I've heard only one other that's gone into space describe the beauty of this planet. I wish we'd stop spending money trying to go to a dead planet (Mars) and spend it on taking care of ours before we kill it and humanity.

The Earth has been here for 4 billion years. Its taken comets snd large asteroid hits that almost wiped life out a few times. We should move out from our home as a way to ensure species survival. Im not that worried about raising co2 levels versus a comet hit like a bigger tunguska 1904. Ill give u we should be aware of pollution but the real threat to life are big rocks hitting us.

Send more actors/poets/musicians/writers into space, and less champagne-spraying entitled rich people. Bezos could do humanity a giant favor by giving creatives constant free access to these flights, like save 1-2 seats each flight for artists. We need to hear about the earth and space from those who can articulate it well, like Shatner.

Well we could all listen and watch the likes of Neil deGrasse Tyson who is extremely educated and very articulate talking about science and how we know what we know about earth, the stars, climate, vaccines. Unfortunately nearly half of all Americans have closed their ears to all this stuff and now anything there is evidence for they don’t believe but then believe stuff where there is no evidence. It’s staggering but true.
Republicanism and evangelical Christianity are strangling the education of many, many people… but they ‘know’ they are right so why should they listen, study or believe? The earth is flat, we never stood on the moon, evolution hasn’t been shown as fact but creationism has, masks don’t work, vaccines are magnetised … and on and on and on…
