    There’s no right or wrong way to play it considering he only really played it in the studio while winging it. He said he even forgot it years later

      Prince was known for doing everything in one take, no just because he was that good, but because he wanted the raw feeling in his music to shine through.

      I just saw a video that some producer was saying Prince would make things purposely hard to cover lol I wouldn't be surprised if that was why he gave that answer too

      +Ozair Rafique Hi Oziar. I wasn't going to do Purple Rain as there seems to be lots of other versions online so I thought I would do songs that don't have tutorials. We did it in the band a few years ago ua-cam.com/video/kUNtpT3kLuA/v-deo.html - great song. When I get a free day I'll do Purple Rain and definitely Little Red Corvette as I don't think anyone else has done this. Next one I'm gonna do is Let's Go Crazy :)

    That intro can not be replicated the more I see people do tutorials. It’s not like it’s particularly hard but it’s such a independent creation & uniquely played by Prince that’s its impossible to replicate exactly like him. This was still amazing tho

  • @akileish23
    @akileish23 8 років тому +6

    Sir, you have no idea how awesome this is! Ever since I heard this song, I always wondered how Prince played the intro (attempting to play it wasn't even considerable until now!).
    As shocking as his sudden death is, it's heartening to see a lot of guitar lessons on Prince's stuff, so that amateurs like myself could comprehend his wizardry. Hope his copyright police won't revert back to being strict and take all these down.

    • @thejaseguitar
      @thejaseguitar  8 років тому

      I think tutorials are safe from the copyright police as I'm not playing any actual recordings in the video.

    • @thejaseguitar
      @thejaseguitar  8 років тому +1

      I made this just a few days before his tragic death. As a result I've been getting so many requests for other Prince songs. I'm trying to do as many as I can to honour such a fine musician.

    • @akileish23
      @akileish23 8 років тому

      +Jason Read But sir, I've been scrounging UA-cam for about 6 months in vain. Then I heard that Prince's people, like Bob Dylan's, are very vigilant on UA-cam and that they take down even tutorials. Even his official videos and live performances weren't available here. I guess they've relaxed it a bit now and the floodgates are open.
      Thanks for the lessons again sir! I hope you find some solace by making these lessons.

    Guitar is about playing things on your own way. That sounds close enough and good enough to get away with. Anyone would recognize it if you played it just like that.

  • @chriscornelius2518
    @chriscornelius2518 8 років тому +10

    Because it is so soon there tends to be hyperbole on the talent of an artist. I was wondering though, because of his ability to play 27 instruments, are the accolades and the praise of Prince's ability on guitar, etc. as people are saying? Some are saying his musicianship is extremely rare and once in a generation if not lifetime. Do you agree?

    Great vids! Yes-along with the strange vocal sound at the beginning,Prince also gives us a dove cooing impersonation at about the 4:40 mark of the song under the "hoo-waoo-waoo ooo-waa" harmony part. Also, a kiss smack sound over the long keyboard solo near the end which I never noticed until recently.

    I prefer memorizing this from a practical view. I really doubt that a lot of these great players go for playing the exact note, the exact same way every time. It's more about being in the moment and capturing a gut feeling on tape. That's what gives some players soul as opposed to just being able to play 75 notes per second in a perfect scale.

    It's not a blues scale as you stated but a basic E minor scale since the blues scale adds a Bb tritone, which is not part of that run. Also, played slower with less frantic wiggling vibrato would make for a better tutorial after the initial performance.

    Thank you for taking the time to post this... but a word of advice... Stop whipping your hand off the neck immediately after playing the last note. It’s a bad habit for a teacher. And slow down. People are looking for notes and hand placement, and you speed through a passage then throw your hand out of frame every time.

    Those chords for the main verses are wrong. Its Am G Am / Am G Em - F - G - Am Youre completely missing the walkup and there's no D.

    Dont mean to be 👿 or anthying and obviously you can play but that vibrato you got is what Steve Vai refers to as the frightened mosquitoe... Slow it down I know its hard... Been there. Try to replicate Zakk Wylde or watch Joe Satch hes got good lessons on vibrato. Btw Thanks for the lesson.

    didn't help, sorry, try to go a bit slower and do a bit at a time rather than rushing, some people can't keep up. For people who could keep up with it, congrats, but for me, it wasn't the best. Jason, you can play guitar well but your teaching needs a bit of work. i'm not saying i could do any better but, as you actually do full tutorials and everything, i think it would help get more people watching. However, this is just my opinion, i hope you take this comment under consideration and i realize you probably won't read this as the video is over 2 years old now, but if you do please don't ignore it. You can do anything you want but, like I said, this is just my opinion. Bye

    I have to admit how frustrating this video is. 5 and a half minutes later, you get to the actual song.

      TheBlackCrown30 !! This guy has some great lessons but regardless of the tempo of the song he has ONE vibrato speed and its a "nervous" vibrato and way too fast most of the time. He also has a terrible habit of sliding his hand up the neck after every single lick he shows. It gets really annoying.
