Nobody should give a shit what the Academy thinks; if you want to find the year's best films, always, ALWAYS go to critics' lists that aggregate films by the year's end. The Oscars are politics, not a reflection of quality or import. Politics. Always has been, always will be.
Interestingly those are FMJ ( full metal jacket) bullets tumbling out of the box. And what the idiot writers don't seem to know is that if you want to kill someone you do NOT prefer FMJ since it is considerably less disabling or lethal than HP (hollow point) or partially jacketed.
Yeah, the way Lars films his movies is annoying as fuck. He thinks he's cheeky by doing this "voyeurism" thing where it's like he's trying to tell the audience "you are watching this sick shit happening, you're no better than a stalker or a voyeur." Antichrist did this a lot.. It was filmed as if someone was stalking the couple and recording them through the bushes. It's all on purpose, but it's really lame and pretentious, and it's irritating because he's more than capable of amazing cinematography, but he opts for his own ego instead.
@@RD-dt6dm He wants FMJ on purpose... Watch the trailer and you'll know why. The writers were actually intelligent. There's a reason why he wants FMJ rounds and there's a reason he only asks for 1 one of them at the end... He WANTS the extra bullet penetration because he's lining 6 people up tied to a log and wants to see how many heads he can explode with 1 bullet.

Hahaha that's the Lars Von Trier stylez he has those cuts in every movie, usually it would be jarring to see but in his movies it feels really natural somehow
Matt Dillon gave a tremendous performance in this film- it's easily in the top 5 of his best career performances- if not the best. Yes, it's sadistic nature, and extreme graphic situations shown during his different murders throughout the film ensure he would never win for best performance or anything mainstream like that. He is so dialed in to his character that the audience ends up feeling strong apprehension along with a sense of impending doom- as his victims likely also experienced. Dillon himself said that the sequence in which he takes the woman and her two kids out shooting, and then proceeds to kill off her kids in front of her one by one before finishing her off - Matt said he cannot watch that, as it's very disturbing to him. I get that.
The whole movie is perfect art. I must say the most painful scene is the verbal abuse of the "girlfriend" he calls "Simple", not the gore in the other killings, but that verbal abuse of the young woman was extremely hard tp watch. The gore though was darkly comical. But the ending, wow, speechless. The whole movie is pure perfection.

Anton is way more terrifying. The guy would've been safe though because he was following his code by asking for ID. If he sold Anton the bullets illegally, Anton would've killed him though. Such an interesting character. I hope Jack is even half as good as No Country for Old Men Edit: After watching this film... Wow. The film was definitely not as good as No Country; it would've been had there not been so many egotistical monologues that were essentially an autobiography about the director, but it was still a great film. I completely revoke my statement about Anton being more terrifying, because at least Anton had a code. Jack has no code at all, and there's one scene in particular that is so cold and disturbing (I won't spoil it) that makes Anton look like Mary fucking Poppins. I never really thought of Anton as a serial killer, more so a hitman.
