I have a 500 from a '70 Eldorado. It has been stretched to 540 ci with parts from CAD. It has 600 horsepower and 700 ft lbs torque and easily puts down those numbers.
Cadillac engines where state of the art in the day ... Head gasket was stock .. looks like it's never been apart ....I'm sure it's plastic timing gear too
Oil pump is closer to a Mopar design than a Buick. I'm a Buick guy and the timing cover is a weak spot. The Caddy heads suck. If you fix the couple weak spots these things are incredible. We have one in my buddies 442. (Original motor was gone and frame had been modified already) And in my opinion Olds engines are my least favorite. All stroke isn't good for HP. He did big valves, ported heads, .030 over, forged rods, shaft rockers and a Edelbrock intake. That car pulls like a freight train. Big cam and it still doesn't need a stall converter😂
The caddie eldo 500 is a big cream puff engine the only thing it did real well was to burn huge amounts of gasoline. BUT they will make real power with a good set of pistons and and a hotter cam
that engine had the worse valve train set up in the world. those stupid bosses where the rocker arms ride on were notorious for throwing rocker arms off.

So you do have to pull the intake manifold to pull the heads
Early ones need hardened seats
