    I knew this was a precision build when dude literally droped the main caps on the crank. My confidence was strengthened even more when he dumped the rod bearings on the bench full of crap from the last build. The finale act of the precision assembly was the cam lobes clanking around on the cam bearings during the insertion.

    Richard I appreciate what your doing as a true engine builder your helping a lot of us understand the things we thought that were and weren't.... And your making people rethink about the old sayings of engine problems and builds.... And there's nothing like the truth when it comes to engines and power... So thanks again and keep the videos coming my Brother 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

Bucks AND have the ballance pads taken off and pollish the whole rod everywhere so it looks like crome then have them cryro treated then you can spin it and make big relyable power and run a roller cam with 600 lift 270 duration big power and use ford cleveland stainless valves same length as cadi but bigger head and port them and use a edelbrock performer intake with a dominator carb use bbc headers slight mod needed have fun i do in my 70 deville convertable with this motor and all the stuff i talk about and it makes big power

      Think what they would be if stroked .250. The 500's bore to stroke ratio is basically 1:1. Plus there's enough room between the bores the block could probably accommodate 4.500 to 4.625 bores. Provided off course there were castings to accommodate them. A 4.625 bore with a 4.554 stroke would only be 612 ci.

    Wonder if someone can convince Richard to put a Ford 2.3 Lima to work. Using modern day components such the Holley F.I.,with period intake manifolds for F.I. (such as the ones from the Ranger, T-Bird, Mustang).
    Then put the turbo(s) on it, intercooler, maybe even get creative and slide an Eaton TVS1320 onto a custom intake...etc. See how that would compare to a factory Ford Mazda based 2.3 in the current Focus, Mustang, Ranger.

    Purely stock dyno numbers are
    hi compression '70: 330 horse
    lo compression '72+: 300 horse
    Those are flywheel numbers, both without accessories. No restrictions from exhaust system. Both absolutely finished before 4,000 rpm. Not a great deal different. Got that information by fishing for real world side by side tests from a Caddy site. Either way, for a quickie budget build, goes to show that you don't have to go crazy with a radical cam and walking a thin line with compression when it comes to a 500 Cadillac. However, if you do want to build a Caddy with shift points of a healthy small block... it'll cost ya a few pennies. You will be rewarded handsomely with torque numbers well into 600's!

    Never once did I see your assistant put any oil on the wrist pins before pushing the pistons into the block. That is a serious no-no on a pressed pin piston. Please consider some next time. Also the cam was kinda really small considering it's a 500 inch engine. Would have been nice to have access to a flow bench to run one of these heads and see how well they would flow with more lift. A great video however in all respects.

      Have no fear! I'm the assistant and Courtney knows how to build Caddys-don't worry-the pins had plenty of oil. I didn't film every step-was busy dyno testing the other motor-had to run back and forth.

      They have durasteel cast rods, like a Pontiac,and clipped rocker arms. Both will limit the rpm of the engine. The boosted 500 that Richard has he mentioned has aftermarket rods and rockers. The heads are okay but aren't great and you're usually better off playing to it's strengths. If you can get 400hp and 500ft lbs with a factory style rebuild and a couple parts, it's still enough yo have fun. To try and get 600hp out of one is a lot of work.

    • @1996slamster
      @1996slamster 4 роки тому +1

      Because you don't have to. The ports are very similar to a big block Chrysler, so with 500 cubes you're just not gonna be able to spin it much past 4500 and make any power.

    Never use stock rods there junk for the price of new bolts you can get a new set of 4340 of 4130 commonly rods with bolts that screw onto the rod and use a main gerdel for added support and a good oil pump use Ford cleavland valves I put the boss valves in my 1970 small chamber heads and ported them and unshrouded the combustion chambers the way I was taught by David Visard in school the boss valve is 2,225 head size not the seat and go no valve seat is needed because the head n block have 10% nickel in them and with stainless valves it will last for half a million miles you can use a Ford big block intake manifold with a little work I used the Edelbrock performer with a reworked Qjet carb and big block Chevy headers with a little twerking 600 HP and 600 torque is stainable if you do like visard says
