A short video where I show an easy way I developed to 'hand land' and 'hand take off' the DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone.
I decided to make this video to help all those who struggle with hand landing and hand take off's like I used to when I started my drone adventure.
As you will see it can be really easy and can happen without any drone grappling.

Good luck, I can tell you that after 2 years of using M2P I dont use any landing pods anymore :). Sometimes when conditions are fine and I have access to clean surface I dont use hand take off and landing.. usually I use flat benches for it :) as its jsut easier to setup the drone when you can put your backpack on a bench. But I would say that half of my take offs and almost all landings are from my hand. With a bit of practice its a really easy, safe for drone and efficient way.

Very helpful, I've been very wary of hand launching but this is a great explanation. You mention the slight movement during take off, might an added suggestion be to take off with your back to the wind to keep your drone from being blown into you?
Thanks.. yeah.. that is a veeeery good point. I feel stupid I didnt pay attention to the wind direction when it pushed it back my way. Hopefully was keeping it over my head :) otherwise would had a dji haircat ;). Anyway.. its important to know that during the take off the drone isn't very stable and everyone has to be careful until its not away in the air.

I'm really wondering, I have a mavic 2 and I'm wondering... Could the navigation sensor data help in any regard with photogrammetry? The drone itself have more than a regular camera, in fact a ton shit of it, would be awesome to know how to record and process that kind of data. Probably will be far from high resolution color pictures, but terrain low resolution height information maybe? What do you think?

I find it easier to slide my hand in from the rear of the drone with it facing away from me. The sensors are not triggered and the camera can be on recording the scenery instead of me. Holding the left stick down is the same.
I was trying to but sensors were detecting my hand. Also the back propelers are mounted lower to the front one so there is less space to catch the body without risking your fingers comapred to the front part. But I guess its a good option when you want to keep recording in hand held mode.
Super, czasem celowanie w male ladowisko na ziemi troche trwa, zwlaszcza przy wietrze. Wczesniej lapalismy naszego Phantoma 4 rekami, bylo dosc latwo i wygodnie. Teraz Mavikiem trudniej, jeszcze nie probowalismy, myslalem co zrobic z tymi sensorami, przelaczyc na sport zeby je wylaczyc, ale ryzyko rosnie. Dzieki Twojemu video wszystko jasne, sposob bezpieczny i wypracowany w praktyce, najlepszy jaki widzielismy. Wielkie dzieki! Moge sie zrewanzowac sposobem szybkiego chlodzenia akumulatora zaraz po locie co (szczegolnie przy upalach) wydluza jego zywotnosc.
Powiem ze po 2 latach od nagrania tego video w ogole juz nie uzywam landing padow. Startuje juz wyacznie z reki w sposob pokazany na video i laduje w ten sam sposob. Bardzo ciekawy jestem systemu chlodzenia o ktorym wspomnialas.
@@GrzegorzBaranArt To jest bardzo prosta i tania rzecz. Chinski maly wiatraczek podlaczony bezposrednio USB do plaskiego, cienkiego powerbanku 10000mAh (nawet do tego celu okazalo sie sporo za duzo. Przy okazji, nie warto probowac takim powerbankiem doladowywac smart kontrolera, nas to kosztowalo dosc droga (242 Euro) i trwajaca prawie 3 tygodnie naprawe kontrolera). Na powerbanku stawiamy akumulator zaraz po locie, a wiatraczek z elastyczna szyjka wygiety w ksztalcie "C" dmucha prosto w akumulator. Szybko pozbawia akumulator wysokiej temperatury, a to ona najbardziej im szkodzi i skraca ich zywotnosc. Niestety nie widze tu mozliwosci zalaczenia zdjecia, a je dla Ciebie ztobilem. Co tez moze Ci sie przydac, DJI przyznaje (nie publicznie, ale kiedy im to zglosisz jako usterke), ze wybrzuszajace sie po czasie od temperatury akumulatory nie sa w pelni O.K. i nawet po uplywie gwarancji (u nas bylo juz ok. rok po gwarancji) wymienia na nowe. Udalo nam sie to w przypadku 3 sztuk. Kaza sobie tylko przyslac filmik pokazujacy usterke z numerem fabrycznym i nalepke zdjeta z dolu akumulatora. Pozdrowienia!
@@bmnoskowski3450 Wielkie dzieki za info :). Z tego co wiem akumulatory wybrzuszaja sie jesli sa przechowywane naladowane w 80-100%. Dlatego ja je przechowuje w okolicach 15-30% i laduje dopiero dzien przed samym lotem. To ma tez znaczenie ze wzgledow bezpieczenstwa jako ze akumulatory litowo ionowe przechowywane w 100% naladowania, w momencie podniesienia sie temperatury otoczenia potrafia sie samozapalic .. moze sie to zdarzyc szczegolnie w przypadku transportu samochodem w lecie. Ostania aktualizacja oprogramowania akumulatorow dla M2Pro zmienila odczyt stanu akumulatorow - okolo 20% mocy jest teraz ukryte i traktowane jako 0% (zrobiono to poniewaz akumulator rozladowany do 0% przy przechowywaniu tracil pamiec i nie dawal sie juz po raz kolejny naladowac). Wiec przechowywanie ich wczesniej przy naladowaniu 30% bylo bezpieczniejsze, teraz mozna je przechowywac nieco ponizej 30%. Odnosnie chlodzenia.. na szczescie dla dronow na polnocy UK upal to max 24C a srednia temperatura w lecie to 17-19C wiec nie mam problemow z przegrzewaniem sie akumulatorow, ale czasem w mocnym, bezposrednim sloncu potrafia sie nagrzac wiec dzieki za pomysl z wiatrakiem. Jeszcze raz wielkie dzieki za info odnosnie zwrotow przez DJI kiedy akumulatory puchna, jakkolwiek moje maja juz 3 lata i jak na razie sposob w jaki je traktuje wydaje sie im sluzyc. Pozdrawiam. G
@@GrzegorzBaranArt Masz racje z przechowywaniem, tez podobnie robimy, (DJI zaleca o ile pamietam 50%). Wazne tez zeby nie rozladowywac podczas lotu do zbyt niskiego poziomu. U nas do tej pory wybrzuszaly sie tylko w trakcie lotu. Wyglada to tak, ze dobry akumulator wyjmujac po locie jest juz wybrzuszony. Po ostygnieciu wraca jednak do normy, po naladowaniu tez jest OK. Po dalszej eksploatacji zaczyna juz nie wracac nawet po wystygnieciu. To juz traktujemy jako sygnal konca uzytkowania. Jako dodatkowe zabezpieczenie stosujemy od roku plastikowa opaske (taka do spinania razem przewodow elektrycznych). Nie trzeba za kazdym razem zakladac nowej, da sie ja zsuwac do tylu dla wymiany akumulatora i nasuwac spowrotem. Temperatury masz fajne u siebie, na pewno pozwalaja na dluzszy zywot akumulatorow. Jakie ilosci naladowan osiagasz na jednym egzemplarzu? Do jakiego poziomu rozladowujesz przecietnie akumulator w locie? My w poludniowych Niemczech mamy czesto powyzej 30 stopni latem, latamy tez na podrozach czasem w b. goracych krajach. Nasze akumulatory zaczynaja sie wybrzuszac po ok. 70-80 ladowaniach. Tez mamy ta nowa aktualizacje zrobiona praktycznie automatycznie bo dostalismy po wspomnianej wczesniej naprawie fabrycznie nowy (!) kontroler. Przeszlismy wiec cala instalacje od zera razem z wszystkimi aktualizacjami. Sam wiatraczek nazywa sie (niem) Flexibler USB Ventilator, sprzedaje go firma Pearl, przeznaczony jest do wtykania np. w USB laptopa, zaleta, ze jest elastyczny i dowolnie wyginany. Czy znasz smigielka amerykanskie Master Airscrew Stealth do Mavica 2? Maja pare zalet, uzywamy od 2 lat. Pozdrawiamy!
@@bmnoskowski3450 Nie mam pojecia ile mam ladowan :). Nie latam zbyt duzo ostatnio wiec pewnie niezbyt wiele. Do tego staram sie uzywac akumulatorow na przemian. Wczesniej konczylem lot na 30-35%.. po aktualizacji koncze w okolicach 15-20%. Bardzo dobry pomysl z opaska natomiast jesli zauwazylbym jakiekolwiek puchniecie akumulatora juz bym go nie uzyl wiecej. Dzieki za info o wiatraczku. Do latania uzywam oryginalych DJI Low Noise propellers i nie narzekam jak na razie. Dzieki wilekie za info, pozdrawiam :)
Stupid question, but how do the motors stop spinning by simply pressing down on the left stick? Doesn't that just reduce elevation? I've only flown mine a few times, sorry for the newb question!
Its not a stupid question :). You need to pull the stick back and hold.. and yeah.. this way the drone would decrease the rotors speed and power and lose altitude.. but since you hold it, the altitude doesnt change and drone believes it has landed and simply turns engines off :)

wouldn't it help to put the drone into S-mode to disable sensors?
I guess you can, but sensors saved me many times from being hit by a drone, not to mention that switching is too much hassle since. After dozens of such landings catching the drone this way is really super easy and natural. It just takes some practice.
Just turn off the landing protection feature, and you can easily grab the drone!
That feature doesn't make any sense anyway. Tested it, it doesn't affect landing in either manual or automatic mode.
Thanks, it mkes sense, I guess I can also set up my C1 button to disable all sensors to make it even quicker and more efficient but... the idea behind all of that was to keep it as simple as possible and this way so far works very well for me. Didn't have a single issue with that so far except that the camera likes to turn sideway after engines are off. Weird. Cheers!
@@GrzegorzBaranArt You can set the C1 button to do that? Didnt see that option, but i need that button for other things anyway. Turning off Landing Protection doesnt affect landing, starting, or anything else. I really dont know, what it does. Like i said, i tested it. It does land a bit quicker when turned off, but still everything looks safe. So, because i dont see any advantage turning that feature on, i disabled it and can just grab my drone without any issues.
But if you found out, what Landing Protection does, let me know :)
@@checkoff8281 I have read somewhere you can set it this way but never tried. Since it doesnt work anymore I guess it was an option before the update or something. Regarding the landing protection.. my guess is that it might affect the autolanding landing function triggered from app or while 'return home' is active. But never experimented with it since I prefer to have all sensors active all the time.
