- In this video i go over how to catch your Mavic Pro in five different ways. I test each way and help you get to the bottom of the question... What is the BEST way to hand catch your Dji Mavic pro.
Catch your Mavic Pro AT YOUR OWN RISK.
That being said it is really easy to hand catch when there are not gusty wind conditions. I hope this video helps you get more familiar with different ways to catch your drone.

haha, thanks bro! I've been hand catching with auto land since I had my drone, always sketches me out haha! when it doesn't turn off I'm afraid to re-release just incase it cuts off at that moment too. When it doesn't shut off I've always had to tip upside down, and even then it fights it super crazy as you can imagine and makes onlookers weary haha. But now so simple, I can grab, and hold down! simple. cheers mate.
Thanks for watching...

ua-cam.com/video/iSUTt8FxWgg/v-deo.html
I tried to really show all the different ways people talk about hand catching the Mavic Pro.
My favorite way is #3 or #1. i have done #5 Auto many times and it always acts differently so i don't suggest bothering with it. #2 is also a way i suggest staying away from.
hope you guys enjoy the video, please share it.
i tried to make this the most detailed video on catching it as i could.
I found after some updates, there is now one more option, the emergence shut down
Got a new method for you. Well, I say method, it's Method #1 with a different technique. Bring the drone down to catch level, Have the camera look past your right ear (or swapped for southpaw), Reach up and rest the lower frame behind the Gimbal between your thumb and index finger, and firmly grasp it.
I use this method (When I don't revert to classic #1), and when done with proper technique, you can land it the first time, no struggle, no messing around with options. The trick is to know where the sensors are, and avoid them with your catch.
Sean Ozz Is it possible to map the bottom sensors to a soft key? What do you have the soft keys mapped to usually?
Robert E I noticed that and did an update just on it.
Emergency Shut Off Trick For DJI Mavic Air and Pro Drones ua-cam.com/video/vfJBVymiUSs/v-deo.html
Sean Ozz I learned how to hand catch on accident. 100%
I'm getting Kevlar sleeves and gloves but I loved how you showed everything repeatedly. Awesome!
dwin1977able thanks. Lol
It’s much easier than it looks.
Just grab it by the bottom and keep it above your face.
Great advice. Those rotors are sharp enough to cut your finger off (I actually know this from experience--it cut through my thumb like a knife through butter). So great advice all around! We need more solid advice like this!
-Beau
thanks i appreciate it.
it's a very good way to fly in areas you could not but you for sure gotta be careful.
So why not wear heavy gloves for the landing? Must be some good reason. Or not.
Extremely dangerous. Imagine those blades hit your face... I'd avoid any of this at all costs. I'd land in the grass before I catch it. Turn the motors off in air and let it drop into the grass. It's very very dangerous.
Beau Reviews are there any fingerless videos?
@@matthewjeschke please NEVER EVER drive a car. It's much more dangerous than this so if you cant do this safely I am worried for you in day to day life. Maybe a bubble suit might help you survive ??
You should test the suicide technique for landing in long grass.
Go into DJI Go 4 settings.
Ensure emergency rotor cutoff is turned on, which allows you to turn off the rotors mid flight by moving both stick to the bottom opposite corners.
Lower drone to 3-5 feet above LONG grass.
Engage emergency cutout.
Drone falls into grass cushion.
I did that in snow instead on my most recent video. Lol
I once thought I was invisible, believe me, you're not. Good advice and entertaining.
Thanks Sean, Option 3 is by way the easiest, Turn off Landing Protection (just make sure you catch it). It's so cool and protects the gimbal, landing sensors, downward cameras, rotors, air intake - everything. Thanks for inspiring me and my drone (The Puffilin) loves you for it too.
Craig Robinson I agree. That’s the way I do it 99% of the time now.
Just can’t forget to turn it back on or it’ll slam the ground the next time you land on the ground
The other day I hiked way up to a ridge that I wanted to fly from. It was a killer place to fly, but there was just no piece of granite or small , flat ground to take off from. I can usually find some little place to take off and land. I ended up not flying there because I was afraid of losing it in the backcountry . I wasn’t sure if it would remember home point. I have really never needed to hand launch/catch before. Searched and found your vids. You’re super funny dude ... easy to watch your vids. Just wanted to see it done , before trying it myself. Looks easy ... I’ll be doing it all the time now. I subbed because of your hilarious narration along with the information. It’s funny how a lot of people make tutorials trying to sound like some serious professor. Your vid style is great, keep it up. So many people making comments about eye safety. Not trying to sound like your mom or anything, but as someone who lost one eye to a framing gun years ago ... might not be a bad idea to wear some good shades. Have a great one.
Thanks for the comment.
It defiantly wouldn’t hurt to have some shades on or something of that nature.
The more you catch it the easier it will become for you as well.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Have a great weekend.
Thanks, after watching this I've been hand catching and sometimes launching for a couple of weeks now and its quite easy after doing it a couple of times.
i just uploaded a hand launch detailed video as well! glad these were helpful!
Awesome, I'm doing the 4th hand catch sensors on with no issues. One tip I do have is always have the sun to your back.
Well done, well described covering all the details in good repetitive detail. When you are doing something that has the potential for injury, you definitely want to be sure what you're doing. Very good!
Thanks. I have a playlist all about hand catching. A more current video with more safety tips.
Sean I’m fairly new to the Mavic Pro and just tried your No.3 option as we will need to retrieve the drone on a vessel.
It worked perfectly! Thx for the great video and examining the various options but No.3 is the best and safest. Cheers Gerard
sensors off is the best for sure!
Sean, you are a legend! Stumbled across your channel tonight and spent the last 2 hours watch your vids (the beep air control made me laugh - sorry).
We do a lot of underwater stuff, but recently just purchased a Mavic Pro so learning as we go - videos like this really help so keep them up!
Love your presenting style! You have a new subscriber! 👌🏻
Thank your your comment made my evening!
Thanks mate! I tried to hand catch my Mavic yesterday, after recording footage of the beautiful woods here in austria, but realized that it was fighting me. So I let it go and landed the usual way. My assumtion would have been to use sport mode nest time so thanks a lot for pointing out that this does not work. I'll stick with method 1. cheers, Mike
MikeOnBike I’ve been using number three 90% of the time.
Just leaving the one bottom sensor off. Works great.
Great tutorial. I hand catch quite often and the one thing I would add is to always take off and catch above head height not level with your face for safety.
Pete Skyrunner I quickly mention to watch your face for sure. I do agree it's easier also to reach up to catch it.
Thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed this , made me laugh, yes just got mavic pro, sold my mavic air the noise, it was good got 4 km out of it . Sub and like
Cam row drone thank you.
The pro is a great product.
Great video, very instructive and clear. I'll be turning off bottom sensors unless I am constrained and will simply hold tight. Thanks Sean!
Thanks. I just made a new version with more detail. Check it out here

Another great video Shawn. THX for the education. I tried hand catching once and when it faught me I almost crapped myself so I never tried it again. Lol. It's time I get out there and practice it again. You just never know when your gonna need to have that know how.
PEACE

DiciurcioCabinets MDiciurcio I've used it 95% of the time on the trip I am on this week.
On a boat today and off a balcony. I bring it in on tripod mode at last minute on approach.
Sean Ozz Hey Sean, thanks so much for always replying to my comment. I know for you that's got to be a big job since I'm not the only one your replying too. I just wanted to say thanks for that. It really makes me feel like I'm a real part of your channel. SO many others just don't put that attention in. I wish you a million subs, so you can get to Colorado, sooner rather then later.
God bless, my friend.
MICHAEL D
DiciurcioCabinets MDiciurcio thanks a ton. It's nice to know it's appreciated. I know I don't have the most high tech videos on the ole UA-cam but I have a ton of fun trying to make them better and better.
Step 5 you have to swipe twice!!! Awesome Video!!!
Great video thanks for testing all the options for us, hand catching is the one thing I've been nervous about doing with mine so far but now I'm going to give it a try!
Ollie Putnam be careful. Heads up it hurts like hell if you hit the props.
Sean Ozz I'll bear that in mind haha! Thanks!
Great video, I'll give it a try. Never had to so far but it's always good to be able to.
Comes in handy to know and to be safe and knowledgeable prior to being in a situation to needing it.
Great video. Very thorough. In most cases I'll just fly my mavic in areas that have flat clear terrain. Good to see your examples though.
I’m doing some updates later this summer on this subject.
excellent tips. thx amigo.
Glad it was helpful.
I've tried #1 many times and it works well. I just don't like the fight the motor does. Gonna try # 3 from now on.
# 4 and 5 look like good ways to slice your fingers b/c you gotta have pretty good eye-hand coordination to catch it as it lowers (especially if it's windy)
MehrabS you will like #3.
It’s all I use now.
Perfect - thanks. Was out on the boat and it took what seemed like ten minutes to land on a ridiculous platform I made. And then it missed and I tried to catch it - not a good feeling in my thumb! Tried this out and it is great. Keep it up!
Mark Jordan that is almost the same reason I learned to catch and take off from hand. #3 is what I use on a boat now and pretty much most of the time.
Just be safe about it and your fingers will be ok. Lol
Really nice! I am considering upgrading my Spark to the Mavic 2 Zoom, but one of my main questions is hand landing/take-off. I run a mountaineering and rock climbing vlog and bring my drone with me to the mountains, so it is essential that I can launch it from the hand :) Thank you for showing that that is indeed possible :)
Yes. All these methods work and I’m working on a. New video with my zoom that also works so stay tuned.
You will love the zoom.
Looking forward to that! :)
With the Spark you could grab, quickly turn it around on its head, and then the motors would shut off...have you tried that with the Mavic?
Yep. Did a whole video about it.
ua-cam.com/video/vfJBVymiUSs/v-deo.html
Great tut. :) Greetings from Ireland.
Thank you! Glad it was helpful. I just added a new tips video to go along with this one.
If you catch the mavic pro at the front end so you don't cover the ultrasonics, it doesn't try to get away .keep the videos coming cheers Anton
Renee & Anton Thibault / Bijl that is a way. I personally prefer turning off landing protection.
Thanks for this video. 👍
Great vid Sean, thanks for taking the time to investigate all those. I hand catch a lot too as I am often out in the mountains and other areas with no options. I clipped my fingers once already, but am seeing some good ideas and tips in your video and in the comments. Gotta give it more of a chance. I have been looking at floaters for when I am out on the water too, as I am often stand up paddling and not on a boat, so it's either hand catch or land on the board - ahhh, hmmm, not really!
Ashley Faulkes woah. Yeah landing on a kayak seems like it would be very difficult.
I have seen some people using those large foam balls in water but I'm not sure if they get in your image.
Good luck and watch those fingers!
Many thanks. 👍 👌✌
Seems a lot easier to hand catch than a Phantom...that was always fun lol
great tutorial!
I wouldn't give up on the auto landing so fast, try to pull down the stick after while it's going down, butter smooth...
Matanya Tausig oh trust me. I’ve done the auto land many many times. This was just what happened the day I filmed this.
The auto land has always been sketchy and for me not even close to the safest or easiest way to hand catch.
Good stuff man!! I feel a lot better about doing this after watching this vid!’
Thanks. I made a newer better video. Should really help.
ua-cam.com/video/H8adhCMM2YI/v-deo.html
Great video! Wish I had watched this before I tried landing mine on the back of our boat this weekend.
I have been flying RC planes for 20+ years where we avoid putting our hands near spinning props at all costs. So I have always been against hand catching. With sensors turned off, I was trying to land on my landing pad that was on the back deck of our ski boat. with the drone about a foot from the pad it seemed to hesitate coming down the rest of the way for a few seconds. Those few seconds were long enough for it to drift off center of the pad due to wind or boat drift. When it finally came down, only two feet landed on the deck and the drone tumbled into the water and sank 25 feet to the bottom of the lake. Those few seconds would have been enough to safely hand catch and land.
Lesson learned. And it was an expensive one. Hand catching can be safe - especially if you practice the skill and get good at it on land before trying it over water.
I paid $180 to have a diver retrieve the drone but unfortunately at least one of the PC boards is fried and will need to be replaced.
i used to fly RC planes many many years ago so i feel you.
i tried landing on a boat in the ocean many years ago when the 1st mavic was released and almost lost it into the pacific. so hand landing became a thing and it really is just too easy not to do it.
i have a few videos on it and doing it safely with the mini 2 and zoom, and other drones.
a good thing to have up your sleeve.
Really good video! Thanks for sharing! Hurt myself today at a trail trying to land my mavic..that sucked
oh no, what happened?
was it crazy windy or something?
No I just tried to land on my hand but I put my hand way above where I should then I cut myself :( your video was really helpfull I think Im gonna try to use the tip number 4!
glad to hear it was helpful!
i either use way one and just let it fight or i turn the one sensor off and just leave it off.
Turning off all obstacle avoidance is the only reasonable method and there is still a lot of risk involved. Any sudden gust of wind could push it into your body or worse, your face (eye). And you never know when a wind gust is coming. It's not worth slicing yourself open or worse. For me, just land it as it is designed. Really nice video editing and background music by the way. Well done.
gilream thanks for your opinion. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and voice it.
It’s for sure not for everyone. (Just like tattoos. Lol)
A year and a half later I’m working on a couple update videos but with the Mavic Air this time.
Mavic pro was the first drone I ever bought. I’ve bought a few since then, even a dual enterprise. The pro is still the best drone I’ve got.
Thanks for sharing
I was at the top of the mountain and really need to launch it,but so much tall grass like what u said, thanx for sharing i was thingking to do this before but I’m just afraid I will broke my motor,,and the most amazing part when My drone almost hit by a helicopter,I was so fucking nervous and I was at the cliff that time like really dangerous cliff, but luckily everything fine,be responsible drone owner guys, keep it up cheers!
Great information Mr, I am planning to use my magic from a boat with rigging all over the place and have been looking for advice on the hand catch sorted, now I am off to practice (from the beach first), will look through your other vids, subscribed :-)
Thanks for the comment and subscription. I recently did a new version of this video with a few tweaks and updates. Hopefully it’s helpful.
ua-cam.com/video/H8adhCMM2YI/v-deo.html
1 or 4 seems to be the way for me. Great video BTW 😁
Drones and Electric Unicycles thanks. I'm glad you liked it. It was a fun one to make. The cow stole the show. Ha ha
hehe, yes cow was a good part. Wonder how you got the closeup
Drones and Electric Unicycles I filmed that close up with my iPhone 7plus. He just happened to moo at the perfect time. Lol
informative vid - thanks
I painted my extended landing gear neon orange for visibility reasons. I only use them to help me see it in dim conditions. I pretty much hand catch and launch all the time.
on the trip i am currently on i have been hand catching about 95% of the time due to the terrain.
Thanks for sharing
i have a whole playlist of catching tips.
be safe.
Thanks for the video! Now I am brave and could practice a little bit before my wedding shoot tomorrow that will happen open water, on a speed-boat... I am definitely less worried now... Cheer for me! :)))
Hey. I hope it went well. I have a whole Playlist of tips for catching and launching these safely. Glad these helped.
I turned off downward facing sensors and perfect hand catch every time, you have full control and its easy. I think frequent users of the mavic dont really need the downward sensors. Oh, and I sometimes use the leg extenders, if the area is dusty ish etc. I hand launch a lot but its wise to have multiple options to launching and landing.
yes, so easy
nice video, the only thing i will recommend is wearing some protective goggles/glasses, you don't want to get hit but does propellers if something goes wrong.
could not hurt.
i should have watched your video before i cut into my fingers - its good to know those ways now :))
hope you are catching and flying and having a great time all these years later!
Thank you very much for the tips. In my opinion the best option is deactivate the bottom sensors. It seems the easiest and safest way, but I will make sure that the sensors will be active on the next flight. Regards!
Glad it was helpful. I did a more recent one on the same subject.might be worth a comparison.
ua-cam.com/video/H8adhCMM2YI/v-deo.html
I like your necklace. My dog has one like that.
You sir are an amazing dog owner. This baby is custom made by hand and crazy high quality. I’d suggest treating yourself as well.
You've got a great personality man. Thanks for the informative.
The first way works best for me , I don’t see the need to risk my fingers twice for one landing.
I haven’t tried to take off out my hand yet. But landing in the hand is pretty easy for me.
Nameless Bum I used to use number one exclusively. Now I use number three. That one sensor is not something I ever use so I leave it off. Makes flying that much easier.
I found this out and it was my 2nd flight.
It also has some some strength to it.
I think the cow wanted to get in the blog.
So when it saw the camara it gave a good pose.
Lol
Way#6 if I may... I always catch it with the camera facing me (but higher than my head so as to not trigger forward sensors), all sensors on, and the natural gripping position of the hand prevents anything from tripping the downward sensors (if done correctly). No fighting, all sensors on.
i also grab above the head most the time. i have not had it not fight yet and i land it facing all kind of ways.
however i have recently been flying with landing protection off.
it is so easy in that mode. lus over water you are suppose to have it off anyway,
Many thanks for your wisdom, Sean! This really helps --cheers!
Glad it helps.
Great vid - thank you! About to try option 1...
Jim Pengelly watch those fingers. Try number three also. It’s the easiest.
I grab my drone and flip it sideways ...stops the motors strait away no fighting back ... just make one fluid movement. Nice Video well done. KUDOS
Thanks.
I think you might be referring to the emergency stop function.
Emergency Shut Off Trick For DJI Mavic Air and Pro Drones
ua-cam.com/video/vfJBVymiUSs/v-deo.html
This is how you do it with the Spark, ease it down to within reach, come up behind it and swiftly grab it. As soon as you have it gripped, and before it starts to fight TWIST it sharply inwards and downwards at least 90 degrees in whichever direction feels right, which will depend upon which hand you use. I set my new Mavic Pro up yesterday and before it was properly connected to my tablet I had it take off in my house. Not good, I instinctively treated it just like an overgrown Spark and it worked, but I could tell it had a bit more power! It seems if it is tilted over more than 90 degrees the drone thinks it has crashed and a memo from DJI's legal department cuts out the motors faster than you can say compensatory damages.
Haha the cow said Bull to the sensors turning off! Nice video all meat no potatoes!
Thanks.
Tnx Sean 😊
This was actually a very Good tutorials on hand-grabbing your dji for landing. Tnx for all your demonstrations, tips, pros & cons on different techniques.
Anyway...
I have a challenge for you.........
Can you please advice how to safely catch my mavic whilst in a moving object, like a bort coasting at 20 knots or equivalent ?
Many Tnx 👍
i was going to make that video this summer but i never had the chance to rent a boat to show everyone how. if you are moving too fast there really isn't a "safe" way to do it so to speak. you would just be taking the chance with fingers and with missing and it falling into the water.
Sean...cmon what are you talking about.....he needs “please advice coasting on his bort at 20 knots.....and you give him some nonsense about a boat....sheesh.
Good video :), big thumbs up. LOL, Thanks!! I get a kick out of making my Mavic mad by pulling down on it, gets all mad just like in your video.
LouLope thanks!!
I’m working on a new video that I feel is the best and easiest.
Nice. I've subscribed and looking forward to it.
LouLope thank you!!
Hopefully it will help out.
Thanks! DJI should update the Mavic to have Spark's hand takeoff and catching.
zodiacfml I agree!!

Hi Sean, nice videos. Question- can you catch and wrist turn the Mavic Pro to shut it off?
Andrey Surcek yes. You can but I’d save it just for emergency situations. I made a video about it.
ua-cam.com/video/vfJBVymiUSs/v-deo.html
Really helpful Thxs for the advice, looks like you live in a really lovely part of the world.👍
thanks... this is Austin but i now live in Colorado, check my other videos to see even nicer background and drone footage
thank so much for this complete tutorials & advice
Christian Daniel Berty Tijow - no problem. I’m working on an updated one as well.
Awesome Video 🤔I don’t think I would do it 😏but if I had to definitely No3 ....👀
Yes. Bottom sensors off make it pretty easy.
I did number 1 for around a dozen of times, and last time I did it I noticed the back arms BENDING UP as the drone was fighting hard to get away. Now the small protection plate by the rotating ball joint of the back arms are always slightly bend up. So I strongly recommend AGAINST letting the drone fighting you. Number 3 and 4 are the best options.
Whisper117s number three is the best option. I’ve got a recent tips update posted and a couple more updated ones on the way.
I think I have the best way actually, lower it to slightly over your head, put your hand under it, wait until it recognizes your hand as ground then pull down on the stick (with landing protection enabled) and it will decent nicely into your hands. Keep your hand under the Mavic and follow any side movements but do not change your hand's height. Keep your palm flat and it will just land gently.
I've done this countless times and it has never gone wrong
pretty much this....
That was very useful , thanks.
Maurice, Jr Saad glad it was helpful. Please share the tips with any mavic users you may know. Thanks.
Thanks! Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful. i am working on an updated one just going over the one way i do it now after months or trial and error. hopefully it ends up helpful as well.

Cool Video Bro, Well explained and good information !! Thank You
glad it was helpful. watch those fingers!
Thanks for the methodical testing and best options- I will be using #3 with a Mini3 Pro. Before shutting the drone off, I'll just make a new habit of turning Landing Protection back on. I've seen some grab and flip just upside down, but am not comfortable with that-
I’d highly recommend not doing that with a 3 axis gimbal. Made a video explaining why but to sum it up. It can damage your gimbal.
@@SeanOzz You're talking about the 'flip' method, correct? I can see how it would damage the gimbal- it has to be really sensitive.
Yes
This is an older video but goes over it some

very very entertaining Sean very well done XD! gonna attempt this in the near future as one day i know ill be in a place where ill need to hand catch lol! thanks for the info
just watch those fingers. it will hurt and be pretty bad if you misjudge.
i am working on an updated video showing which way i do it now and what i feel is 100% the easiest way. hope to get it finished this month sometime.
Cool video! I wonder if it was a safety thing that the motors did not power down while using the auto land feature until you actually commanded it to do so by using the joy stick. Maybe to insure that you have a proper grip before it shuts down? Could be a good test.
i will have to check into that!
I usually hold one of the legs at front and push down the left stick and then once the motors off put it on ground or wherever
those legs break pretty easy.
Thanks for this! I liked the video, very helpful, enjoyed the cows. I subbed and have been watching a few of yours now because my Mavic started drifting (when hovering after take off ) just the other day. I had to grab it from above, in low light (and somehow I did it cleanly). After troubleshooting (no luck) I had to catch it again; I couldn't compensate with the controller for the surprising drifting to land it before it would crash sideways. But the rotors gave me a nice smack on two finger tips, and a few minor cuts and blood blisters. No big deal, I think I'm lucky.
videolux.org ouch. That would hurt. Mine has drifted like that as well. I recalibrated it and normally it fixes it. Good luck.
Took some of your tips, did the ol' recal tonight, hoping for the best. Appreciate your reply.
videolux.org no problem. Hope it helps.
Big thanks from Russia, bro with the beard!!!!
You’re welcome. I have an update coming soon on this one.
Great video, thanks for showing all the options.
Stan O'Kella no problem. Hope it was helpful.
Certainly was, just waiting for a break in the rain in the sunny UK to have a go! Great channel and content, keep up the great work.
Stan O'Kella thank you very much!!
Just want to say thank you, found it very helpful...
Thanks for watching. I have a bunch of videos still planned for the mavic pro and an updated hand catching one. I have a more detailed hand launch I posted a couple weeks ago.
I get the mavic air soon and plan to do some comparisons.
#3 landing protection off only! Thanks!
James Chung this is the way I do it now 99% of the time over the last 6+ months. Works great.
Some good tips. Thanks!
thanks for watching, glad they were helpful.
Really wish I watched this video before I shredded my fingers this afternoon. Doh!
Ouch. That sucks. Hope you didn't mess yourself up to much.
I made a newer update you can view here.

Lol i messed myself up trying this without knowledge
@@SeanOzz Finally healed, a month later. 7 scars side by side by side by side, down my index finger, lost half a nail and about a cm of my fingertip. Although at 300+ RPM it probably could've been much worse.
OR I could've watched a video for 5 minutes and avoided it all. Not gonna lie, it'll be a while before I ever re-attempt a hand catch, if ever.
Very cool! Thanks for doing these tests.
no problem, it was a fun one to make.
Great video, some day I'll try this.. with a full face helmet, gloves and shoulder pads 😂
Kevin Martin ha ha. It’s pretty easy. Especially the take off.
Be safe.
It's very easy, I did it in my first flight. Thanks Sean.
Ser lancerlot thanks for the comment. Glad it helped. I’m working on a new catching and take off video this month.
Great video Sean. I'd like to hand catch my Mavic as well, as this would eliminate me having to carry my heli-pad and set it up on my hiking trips. Definitely a time saver, though the thought of it does make me nervous. I might give it a try today though, as it seems to be a pretty calm day here in Austin.
Nice, I almost moved to Austin recently. We decided to go to the mountains instead.
i am working on a new video after months of hand catching with what i feel is the easiest (hint i think it's #3 on this video) just turn off the one bottom protection sensor. just be safe and if it feels wrong then just land it on the ground.
Sean, I just finished my tests by doing three very easy and successful takeoff and landings by using #3 (which I feel is the safest). NO MORE HELIPAD FOR ME!!! This is going to be great! No more caring, setting up, tearing down and cleaning off the spikes. Not only is it going to be a time saver for me, but I can add another minute to my flight time and take off/land anywhere. Thanks again for the video!
awesome!!! glad it was helpful. there are spots on my hikes i fly that a helipad would be useless. so this will help you fly in so many more areas as well! Thanks for sharing!
Just wanted to thank you again Sean for the video. Turning off "Landing Protection" is the best way (safest way) to catch the Mavic. I've even done it in strong, gusty winds with confidence. One just has to be aware that this also turns off the protection of stopping above the ground when doing a fast descent. However, I don't fly mine like I stole it, so that isn't an issue for me. Hand launching and catching the Mavic makes me enjoy it even more than I did (and I didn't think that was possible). Fly Safe!
Awesome!! i have been slowly working on a video all about that way! that and showing a few other weird little things you can do but i don't recommend.
you are suppose to turn that off over water anyway so i just leave it off all the time.
i never use return to home anyway and it benefits return to home the most.
I've got a lot of band aids + I'll give it a try (1) & (4) Thanks.
3 is the best for sure. Check my new video giving more detailed tips and be safe.
really nice video, thanks! I just wish DJI programmed a hand gesture to hand catch easily. I mean how hard can it be right?
That would be a great addition.
You must be in the hill country of Texas ! Maybe around ink's lake or Canyon Lake.
Beautiful country.
In this video I was near lake Travis.
If you like the background in this you will enjoy it more it this newer video.

Nicely done
Curt Edwards thank you very much.
You're great :) thanks
Check out my playlist on catching and take off all out of your hand. Lots of more detailed info in it.
That's some great advice! About number 3, with switching off bottom sensors, you mean only turning off the landing protection? There is no need to turn off the downward vision sensors?
Robberick I’ll have to go double check but one can stay on and they other off with no problems catching it.
Thanks dude appreciate the info
i am working on an updated one coming soon!
