    *Quiz: What movie did I spoof after the intro?😂*
    Using IV-Organics as a spray would have likely repelled these nasty pests.

      You are suggesting some sprays to get rid of pests but what i read that if a plant is healthy and contain the antioxidants and phyto-nutrients, the pests doesn't cause any harm but if plant is deficient in these nutrients then only insect can eat our plants.

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  2 роки тому

      @@meetu295 That may be true in some cases, but pests will also attack healthy plants, causing serious damage.

      @@TheBusyGardener You may be right as i don't have any practical experience but i read some articles that excess of Nitrogen in the soil can invite pests. So if one doesn't use artificial fertilizers, we can avoid excessive nitr

    I've got an infestation of soft waxy scale that is thankfully small so far. They have latched onto two of my avocados, two guavas, and a couple of flowering trees that are still less than 6 ft tall. So far I've been able to minimize the damage by just spraying them off with a water hose every week or so. However, I'm thinking about being a bit more aggressive about them by using a Neem oil, soap, and water spray mix. A bigger problem than the scale seems to be ant colonies all over the garden and throughout the area where I have fruit trees and vines planted. In addition to eating the fruit, the ants protect the scale and encourage their growth.

    My vine has bumps under the top layer of the stems. It causes it to be lighter colored in those places. When i run my nail across them they have little crumb things that come out. What is this?!

    I fear I’m dealing with this situation. I tore out tons of dead vines and deep in the middle was a ball of these scale bugs in a mound of what felt like honey. Should I bite the bullet and just tear it all down and start over? How long will it take to grow back a new full area? My area is approximately an 8x10 area. Love it as a sound barrier to our neighbors pool equipment motors. Thanks!

    I noticed similar scaly insects on my grapefruit tree over the winter. Thankfully it wasn't numerous. I would find a couple each day and would just use a stick to pry them off the limbs/fruit. Interestingly I would find them concentrated on limbs where there was fruit. I used a horticultural oil/insecticidal soap combination and it seemed like it did the trick. I never had an explosion like yours, thankfully.

    I would say mine is at a medium infestation, its also about 3 years old , what do you suggest, its the only thing keeping my bedroom covered from the street traffic

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  2 роки тому +1

      Definitely spray with a horticultural oil ASAP! Consider starting another plant from a clipping on the side so you can replant if needed.

    From what I've read, one of the best ways to get rid of these (or rather, to never have an infestation) is to get rid of the Argentine Ant. Most of our issues with scale and aphids have to do with this wretched little ant. It essentially protects and farms
    Unfortunately, there aren't many great ways to get rid of Argentine ants. Would be great to see if someone can figure it out, as I'm sure that ant does millions of dollars of damage to our fruits and crops out here.

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  Рік тому

      The ants we've got aren't Argentine ants! It's true any of these ants farming these pests makes it so hard to eradicate the pest. 🙁

    Could you prune about 95% of it and leave the base to grow back?

    • @TheBusyGardener
      @TheBusyGardener  2 роки тому

      That is probably too much to prune from an established plant like this. That said, passion fruit is short lived and was already a 2-3 years into a 3-4 year lifespan

    Hi Cameron, sorry to see your passion fruit vine decline from all the scale. My passion fruit vines haven't been as affected, but ants farming scale insects and aphids have been more of an issue on my citrus trees. In addition to the solutions you've described, I have also had excellent results of minimizing their population by wrapping the base of the trunks with tape and Tanglefoot. Here's a good video with the steps if you haven't already seen it: ua-cam.com/video/69ip-oOXdTg/v-deo.html

      Always get rid of every moth. Caterpillars eat plants!

    I guess you're lucky you don't have a Passion Vine Hopper problem. Nasty moth-like creatures, approx 3/8" wide, with gossamer wings. They'll flick out the way if approached. Decimating plants down under. Um, this vid just appeared in my 'recommendations' a year later.
