As an experiment I grew a Tamarillo in a 300 mm hydroponic planter. It was planted in about November 2016 and gave me fruit in February 2018 - I never topped it so it grew huge, about 3 meters high and I had to attach it to the down pipe of my house. After it fruited I have cut it back and planted it into soil so hopefully it keeps on giving. Thanks for your video.
Hi there Interesting story. It will continue to produce for you as long as you're in a temperate climate and don't experience anything other than a mild frost in winter. Tamarillos are frost-tender, so we would recommend wrapping it in frost cloth even if you experience the mildest of frosts. All the best :)
My Tamarillos are being battered by what I think is white fly, I spray and spray but they keep coming back, all underside of leaves are filled with eggs. Should I just give up? Thanks.
Don't give up. We have the same problem at times. See if you can find Neem Tree Oil, make that up and apply three times in total, each application three days apart. You may need to repeat this, but it will take care naturally of the aphids etc which love to attack tamarillos.
I leave in Melbourne I planted 1 tamarillo so I have to get 2 more can u tell me please how long those it take to have fruit year or two?? thank u for your video looking forward to your next one
Hi Kathy Tamarillos take 18-20 months from planting to fruit. Have a look at this article for more information... organicediblegarden.co.nz/2016/05/tamarillos/ All the best :)
Could I ask what you'd recommend in the guild for the Tamarillo? I am growing mine in a very large 15ft vinery greenhouse how often and how many gallons of water would you recommend? It gets to about 40 degrees in here in summer
Any South American subtropicals are good in the guild. Naranjillas, passionfruit, that sort of thing. Subtropicals are shallow-rooted so benefit hugely from mulching which helps regulate moisture levels. Not able really to help with how much to water without knowing your actual conditions, but mulching will certainly help moisture retention.
We would fertiliser twice a year in autumn and spring. Each time we would give the plants some chicken manure or sheep pellets and an application of a well-balanced multi-mineral organic fertiliser - one that has even amounts of NPK as well as other minerals.
what could i do to protect my passion fruit vines in the winter i live in western Maryland the passion fruit plant I brought and potted last summer died I took them out of the pots and through them away I have two new vine inside that are doing great really green and pretty
Hi mate .I would like to ask if passion fruits do well ,when plated in large 15 inch pots . As i have recentley planted in these pots .but not sure how these will progresse.in the future. Thank you very much.
Hi there We think that size of pot is too small for a tamarillo. You might get a crop off the plant in the first year, but we don't think it would survive past that, unless you're growing it hydroponically of course. Fruiting plants need lots of nutrients in their soil in order to produce. Al the best :)

To help us answer this question, are you Maryland in the U.S. or Maryland in Australia?
great tips, thank you!
Did you plant theTamarillo in Autumn or was it a separately filmed video?
We are in the Southern Hemisphere, so March for us is Autumn. Both our passionfruits and tamarillos were planted in autumn.
