One weakness you overlooked on the Yak-9U/P/UT was the engine overheating. Ironically I do not consider it as much of a problem on the Premium Yak-3 VK-107, since it has such insane acceleration, climb, and speed that it allows to cool down the engine after climbing up to around 5-6km altitude (at least it used to allow me to cool down a bit the engine, back when I used to play it all the time)
Also the guns on the Yak-3U and Yak-3VK-107 can be underwhelming at times (I remember these guns being almost useless at certain patches)
Hey luiz, i didnt have big problems with overheating in those models tbh. seemed very manageble. The shvak cannons seemed to work fine as well. The aiming aint easy though, i grant you that.
@@jengar6258 Yeah, definitely the guns need a lot of precision, and in the last few years I got really rusty... Which does not help. Also, the flap could be used at higher speeds than intended if you double tap the flap key, avoiding it deploying too much and avoiding breaking it.
But worthy mentioning that above 400km/h IAS the flap breaks really quickly, making it kind of dangerous
hey, how do you like the Premium Yak-3 VK-107?
I play sim a lot, and I only use 100% throttle when taking off or in a dogfight. You can get away with 92-95% for most of your flying and climbing. It gets fast on its own without being max throttle
La-9 is a good reason to key bind your guns so you can fire them in pairs and double your gun time. Also not a bad idea for some of the Yaks.
perhaps, does limit the stopping power though, and create more hit/crit situations instead of kills. Prolonging your time on the target. But maybe you're right, got to be sharp then though.
Although I've unistalled the game half a year ago, it is still a joy and pleasure watching your vids mate. No intention to change my mind, not regretting a tiny bit, but still keeping "in" with your channel 👍🏻 Thanks for your passion and dedication mate, there are not many like you after so many years :)
Thank you very much brother, Im honored! o7
Yes!
I was waiting so long for the soviet b29 review
o7
I love your videos man! I've gotten so much better by watching this channel. The nation-specific episodes such as this are super helpful
Ty John! much appreciated!
Su-6 (AM-42) is one of my absolute favorite planes ingame, together with the A-26s. Those two are basically the only aircraft I was considering buying talismans for, not because I need them, but as a reward for them being so much fun. (Though thanks to the activity change, I am not spending money anymore. Just had a game doing tactical work, suppressing enemies so that teammates could take them on, only to be rewarded 0SL and RP because activity and close proximity don't give any points anymore. Basically, you are supposed to be dumb and at a minimum get shot at to get any reward or just go ground pound and then get shot down.)
The strange jumps gaijin makes to keep the grind hard. I will never understand their strange choices. They could make so much more money long term if they'd endeared ppl to the game instead of frustrating them. Playerbase would be 5 times bigger as well.
@@jengar6258 Yep, my brothers are no longer regularly or at all playing WT. One is completely in DCS and basically said he cannot stand how much potential Gaijin is leaving at the wayside and just focus on content expansion, grind, and the associated increasing monetization.
In the beginning, I was quite skeptical about Yak-9u's 1 cannon. but man, it destroys planes just in 3-4 shoots.
it does indeed!
Hey, great guide but for the Su-6s you missed that the 4.7 has 37mms too with the 23mms being unlockabale. Main difference is the engine, the m71f engine is better.
Russian 37s are amazing!
ty sir, thanks for that extra info, must have skipped over it.
An hour with Jengar :)
I know the planes preety well, but gosh, what a joy to watch and listen !
Ty sir Michal! o7
You'd be amazed at how well the Su-6 (AM-42) works as a fighter. It's climbrate isn't like a fighter, but without bombs/rockets and the airspawn, it can get up to pretty decent altitude for a 4.7 attacker. The maneuverability, like the other single engine russian attackers, is good enough to let you dance around at a fair speed. The 37s with HE are also a joy to use, being able to thoroughly delete any enemy plane if your aim is good (That or your can turn any SPAA into mince meat in GB).
Also, fun fact, the Su-6 series has an internal bomb bay that can hold either four 50kg or two 100kg bombs, any extras/bigger bombs are mounted on the wing, although I'd recommended using the 50kg bombs over the 100kg ones, since you only get 36kg of TNT with the 100s vs the 50s 25kg but can carry more 50s. Probably the most fun aircraft I've used in ground RB too.
can imagine it being fun in GRB
Yak-3U is just outrageously good fun! Superb plane! :)
Thanks for the Tipps from Soviet Airplanes !!! and I am by Rang IV
im working on rank V, expect it in januari
A fun point with the MiG I225 is that it's turn rate is very similar to the ta152H below 300kmh IAS, being able to dance along planes like the J6K1 (and out do it) and the griffon spitfires!
o7
I225 is a beast. I'm like Jason up there in the sky just Killin.
roger that! its great!
Just a note about the Su 6s the 4.7 Su6 is able to use 37mm guns. They are badass. Tbh I can't see a difference between the two. Even the loadout is the same except the later Su6 has one less loadout. I almost have the next Su 6 unlocked so we will see.
indeed sir, o7
14:18 damn that was awesome
Great overview cheers, watched a few videos already!
Cheers mate! much appreciated! o7
On the Tu-2s there's something mildly annoying that may take some getting used to: you can't drop all the bombs at once if you take the larger payloads, because the external bombs obstruct the payload bay doors, so there's always a delay there. This is especially annoying if you're bombing minibases because on most maps these days you need a fair bit more than 1000 kg of ordnance to destroy them in one pass, forcing you to either do some awkward dive bombing tactics that runs the risk of you running into your own bombs, or turning around and making a second pass because of the delay while your payload bay doors open. Now you may say "just fly it as a CAS plane"...which you can do, but if you want to unlock the skins for them, you have to bomb bases.
dont loose the altitude, unless you have to i would say.
@@jengar6258 I find that by that BR, altitude won't save you, speed matters above all else in ensuring you get a chance to drop your payload if you're in a bomber. It's why the German bombers are so dominant at rank 4 and you rarely see their slower Allied counterparts - they can dive at such high speeds that intercepting them before they reach their targets is almost impossible on most maps. Outliers like the G8N1 exist though, that thing just has so much firepower that you can get away with traditional base bomber tactics in it.
Thankfully, the Tu-2 is fast enough in a dive that it can get away with this, but not fast enough to avoid being caught after dropping its bombs, especially due to that delay caused by the payload doors requiring you to spend more time over the target. The way I fly it when bombing minibases is to make a shallow dive towards the target, drop my first pair of bombs, pull an Immelman as the payload bay door opens, then drop the rest of my bombs as I fly back the other way. The ideal payload for this mission profile is the 4 x 500 kg loadout, as this maximizes the amount of explosives dropped on the target (the 2 x 500 kg, 1 x 1000 kg loadout has slightly less explosives and may not be sufficient on some maps).
Great video as usual man
Excellent presentation Jengar .
Thanks Nikos! o7
Soo informative, gives me motivation to play warthunder. Im very close to tier 4 (1 plane) thanks for the video’s! Could you please do tier 6 & 7 jets???
i will do them eventuelly!
Man I225 is a fucking besst and the entire rank 4 yak line up is so much fun to play
that was since the shvaks are getting better/buffed when used with tracers (previously spark all the way)
yeah, their much better now :)
Great, thanks Jengar! 🍻
np Athif! o7
Fantastic video as always! Thanks!
Thanks Kelvin!
Thank you, Sir. Very nice job.
ty sir! o7
Nice video! I am currently taking a holiday from War Thunder since the current battle pass is even worse than the last one. They even removed the option to get a random rare aircraft loot crate from the war bond shop....
yeah, the neglect of air RB is real.
Yer2 is good in ab. If you get past initial defense, then you can get 10-20 tons of base bombing. Good for challenges.
It blows in rb
absolutely, not a good time ;)
The the yer-2 is PAINFUL to play. Can’t climb, can’t fly even at a decent speed, the cannons are lacklustre, only positive is the Bomb load…basically is outclassed by everything else…oh and the SL bonus, if you get to drop your bombs lol
hehe, agreed!
Can’t wait till rank v guide
Started working on it! o7
You gave the Yak-9U really high ratings but that sum bitch cost a shit ton to repair. Its fun to play but you have to ace every game you play in to make any lions out of it.
Thats a bit exagerated Anthony, you just need to die less often. Which is very possible with that plane!
It seems I-225 may have got nerfed since this video
Insane compression
0 maneuverability
Weapons has 0 accuracy
If you try to roll, plane drift towards a side
Every single plane performs bettdr at high, mid or low altitude than this one
You can crit enemies 5 times, but you lay got 1 round at any part, and you are almost forced to bail off
i hope thats not true, the I-225 is/was one of my favorites in the Soviet line.
@@jengar6258 try it again if you want to confirm, I played it since last patch (fully upgraded, maxed out pilot crew and with the Expert thing thag adds +5 to everything).
I play with Feets and Knots units, but flying at 200kt below 10.000ft you try to do even a small maneuver and it turns crazy, very difficult to aim or properly control.
Also, to add that I play at 175ms 30FPS, so maybe... just maaaaybe, that has something to do. Nonetheless, I don't experience the same thing with any other plane (and when I first unlocked it this thing I commented didn't happened to me)
Thanks for your time, answer and good videos!
I don't think I've heard anyone else say that the 3U has good high altitude performance, I always heard the opposite, that the VK-107 was more well rounded while the 3U is best below 3.5km. If nothing else, that thing's energy retention and acceleration is absolutely bonkers at low alt
Thanks for the time and effort in these videos, started playing just a week ago and its very nice to see what I have to look forward to!
One thing Im struggling with atm is figuring out what kind of ammo I am supposed to take to my planes, how do I decide on what to take? think Im using universal atm but i dont really know why or what they do or if something else is better, any help would be appreciated for my overwhelmed
mind.
Use air targets for aircraft, tracers if you’re night fighting or need to see your line of gunfire for aiming purposes, ground targets/armored targets for ground armor and heavily armored planes, and stealth if you’re comfortable shooting with accuracy without needing any tracers to adjust your shots. Also, check the belt descriptions and look at what shells are used and in what order. Some have more high high explosive rounds, some more AP or incendiary. And be careful with any German aircraft cannons/ammo now. They were historically fantastic and were in the game as well, but Gaijin has nerfed the velocity as well as the fuse sensitivity (against one nation in particular, which I won’t mention). Just get to know the planes and experiment to see what works best for you. Use test flights against the AI planes, but keep in mind the damage models for test flight enemies might be weaker and easier to kill, as I’ve heard - but I may be wrong on that. Just have fun and try not to get to frustrated when you run into “the snail”.
@@catsooey thanks a lot! This will defenitely help me out!
@@tbrreversed6711 Np! 🙂 As Long5hot says, “See you in the skies!” Long5hot is another great pilot/UA-camr and a friend of Jengar’s, so check his channel too. And also you might want to download the PDF called In Pursuit - it’s the best written resource for virtual pilots that I know of.
@@catsooey Just checked him out, sad to see there is no "new" content there but Im sure there are some goldmines to be found from what is already there so will check them out!
Im usually crashing down from the skies but eventually Il get the hang of it and looking forward to meeting you up there then. Will see if I can find the pdf you mentioned, maybe it will be too complicated for me, or maybe it will be perfect, time will tell
I go into the belts on every video these days, so that should help you out!
Hi Jengar, I like that you're putting out reviews for each nation's aviation tech tree tier by tier, however you seem to have forgotten the premium planes in this one. Do you think you could add them in at some point?
Anyway have a good day.
for the bigger nations i will do the premiums in seperate vids.
esperando pelo rank V :) obrigado pelo video incrivel
no comprendo, but rank V will come.
the repair cost is really what stopped me playing this game all to gether. you need about 3-4 kills per game to repair the 9P without making a loss..
You just need to die less, thats all. You got to start playing Air RB with survival in mind instead of kills. It will change something fundamental in your approach.
hahaha yeah righht git gut right break the meta..... !!!! bye
@@MrJob91 okay, dont listen to the guy who's been playing for 8 years. It wasnt meant as an attack.
Can you do an updated review on the yak-3 vk-107?
one day brother, working on us tree atm.
@jengar6258 Do you still use tracers for berezins or do you use something else?
I disagree with the la9 verdict. I think the la 9 is one of the best prop planes in the game. with extremely fast low altitude top speed, amazing acceleration and good roll rate, you can outrun all turnfighters and out-turn all energy fighters!
I didnt experience that as convinced as you mention it, i'll have to revisit someday.
Finally rank 4 =)
roger that!
No premiums?? :( Im quite enjoying the yak 3 vk107 lately, something to do with the 20mm, which do some damage now
roger that.
i185 the russian 190 but with a much better climbrate lmao
yep
Dedication.
Ty Samy! o7
Jengar from the Netherlands?
Could you finish the American tree? Watched rank one but need rank two.
eventually sir, but the ppl have chosen for the british line first. So it'll be rank IV/V israeli, rank V soviets, and then Rank II-V British. After that we'll do a vote for the next nation. If US wins we go for that.
Jengar I understand and respect your choice. Just don't think you should do a rank one then move on without completing the other ranks like you've done for Russia and others. I guess I'll look for them in the future.
@@ketorecipiesandhealthystuf5539 My idea first was to do rank I for all nations. But the ppl wanted nation wise, so we switched after 5 rank I's
I understand. Thank you for your response. I will continue to watch and wait.
The 3U is good at high alt?
Doesn't that engine loose like 600hp as soon as it switches to Gear 2?
I tried it and it while loosing a lot of Horsepower, still flies like a UFO...
yeah, she still does her thing.
Do this for murican stuff
i will once you guys vote for that ;) you choose brits next.
can you do the same with rank 4 British aircraft? please
He'll do British planes after USSR rank V
yeah, brits are next after rank V soviets. I'm saving rank Vi and VII for last, as those ranks are constantly changing atm.
Well it's a fine plane but I'm just mentally retarded and I die a lot but yak9u is a great plane
it is indeed! keep at it! o7
Are you also bankrupted as me?
its a hard time for most ppl atm.
The captions on the video make it impossible to watch, it's giving a dutch-english translation and none of the words make any sense at all it's a bunch of random jibberish, like this on one of the other ussr air guides too
blame youtube for not understanding my dutch accent!
I 225 is terrible
no its not, its excellent.
youre videos are very good, the game is shit, classic P2W
its not p2w tbh, its pay to progress faster.
War thunder is the best worst game
Merci 🤪👑😘
