  • We almost hit a reef in Tahaa!
    We loved Tahaa and Bora Bora. We hope that you can see that from the pictures in this video. The view was amazing from the top of the mountain in Bora Bora and we got to see an octopus really close up at Tahaa.
    We hope you will enjoy it!

      Thank you so much! We really are. It feels great to be able to continue again and we have just been sailing to four atolls in the Marshall Islands for a couple of weeks which we enjoyed a lot. Everything worked fine and we are excited to sail to Micronesia in a couple of days.
      Yes, we try to do 2 movies per months and we really hope we can find internet further on so we will be able to post them frequently.
      All the best to you too! 😊⛵

    WOO HOO!!! I am so happy to hear your rudder is fixed and you are good to go on more adventures! Wind & waves are just normal problems for cruisers. 😃👍
    Interesting, my two favorite cruising channels are you and RAN, and both have had toe accidents!?

      @@HilmaSailing Ah! I took it that you were non-verbally telling Oskar "I'm not going to dignify your silly question with a response". I am a big fan of silly questions/humor, and related with Oskar in that moment. For not knowing how to respond, you gave the perfect response!! 😊👍🧡

    Thanks for the intro. Great news on the rudder! Lots of other repairs still to go, I'm sure. Lisa, don't worry about how you look in the morning. Other girls would need to buy a lot of beer for their boyfriends to look so good. :-D I hope your toe is all better. It was a similar incident (IIRC) on RAN that cut Malin's toe. Ouch, in both cases. What is it with Swedish girls, toes and hatch covers?

    • @HilmaSailing
      @HilmaSailing  5 років тому

      It was actually pretty easy to mount the rudder in the water and that was one of the last things we had to do so we left Majuro a few days later and have now been sailing between some atolls here in Marshall Islands the last weeks. It was beautiful! :)
      Haha, I don't know about that.😝 My toe was better in a few days so that was good and now only half of the nail is blue so it should be back to normal in some months :D Haha, we've heard that. They really do not like us! ☝🏼😀

  • @normanboyes4983
    @normanboyes4983 5 років тому

    Are you going to give some more technical detail/video on the rudder failure and the subsequent repair? However notwithstanding that, pleased to hear you are all good to go now and sorry to learn of the foot injury.

    • @HilmaSailing
      @HilmaSailing  5 років тому +1

      Yes, we will :) We are behind with the video production (sorry about that) but we will make at least an episode about that in the future. We have visited so many beautiful places here in the Pacific so we want to show that first, but in some months we will show you about it all. :) We are great now and so are the toe. :)

    Coconuts on the islets (motus) are not free. The owners use them to make copra, which is the only source for cash for many. I was nearly eaten alive by black and white striped mosquitose on a motu next to Bora Bora. They are born in rainwater in coconuts husks that have been harvested for copra.

    Were you able to find out what caused the rudder to break ?

    • @johnlord7854
      @johnlord7854 5 років тому

      In a previous episode, they found it was galvanic corrosion. A loose wire shorted out and caused the problem over several months. They checked everything before they left Sweden, and it was in perfect condition then. They also pointed out it wasn't a manufacturing fault (I am pleased as I have an identical yacht to Hilma !)
      Kind regards, John (NZ).

    • @HilmaSailing
      @HilmaSailing  5 років тому +1

      Thanks John, that's correct. We will have an episode about it further on but as you say, it's good that it was not a manufacturing fault. :)

    PERDÓN OSCAR

  • @samuaarnivuo4113
    @samuaarnivuo4113 5 років тому

    Afaik Navionics sonar charts use interpolated data based on true(ish) charts. They do not contain any more information than the real charts. Using sonar charts in a decently charted location like the west coast of Sweden is fine. However, it will get you aground in less accurately charted waters.
    If you'd turn the real (normal Navionics) chart on in that bay, you'd see some of the warning signs that the bay is in fact uncharted: there is only 20meter depth curve, and there is 0.3m sounding where it is supposed to be 5-20m deep.

    • @HilmaSailing
      @HilmaSailing  5 років тому

      We show the sonar chart in the video but we navigate from the "normal" Navionics as you are referring to. We reported some under water rocks in that area when we discovered this. Do you think our report made an affect on the charts? We really can't remember that we saw some warnings when we were there. :)

      Judging by how many has had GPS aided grounding on the reef south of Raiatea, I doubt that any changes will happen.

    What is it with you Swedish girls smashing your toes with hatches? :) That happened to Malin from RAN Sailing last year also. I hope everything healed up ok.

    • @HilmaSailing
      @HilmaSailing  5 років тому +1

      Haha, that's a good question! What is it with al those hatches I wonder! :) Yes, thank you. it's still blue (6 months later) but it did not hurt for long so that was good! :)
