I've been watching you since Fang days, and saw your girls grow up with the channel. When Olive took the initiative to relieve the camera, so Maggie could film where the action was while she was marking the second rat, I was oddly proud of a stranger on the internet I might be mistaken, but I believe thats the first time she showed this teamwork initiative - it was beautiful to witness! Please pass my compliments to her, she has everything to be a great huntress! Also, props to Maggie keeping up with the acrobat rats!!
as a woman involved with biology and conservation work, i LOVE to see that this farmer has set up habitat for local burrowing owls! this is such a wonderful thing to see and I hope this sort of accommodation for native animals can be continued worldwide because it doesn't take much work. For roof rats, would you say falcons would help with this type of job or do they struggle too?
Falcons in general tend to be more bird hunters than mammal hunters (and the ones I can think of that do specialize in mammals couldn't handle a rodent this big), and few species are very good at hunting through trees and brush. A goshawk or harris hawk would do a much better job, in my opinion.
The little terriers were bred to find and eradicate rodents. A friend has a Silky Terrier, and if there’s a mouse or rat anywhere in the vicinity, she will not rest till she gets it. At 7 pounds, she gets in some pretty tight spots. And yes, she does the crazy shaking, also. I think it is to make it hard for the rat to bite her while she is destroying it.
Joseph you are by far the best rat hunter in the world nobody comes even close to you. You should be honoured for what you can do. Simply the best. Outstanding.
Wow! Airborne arborial rats learning that they're not safe from the Mink Man's pack! Both Cherry and Poppy did so well! and it didn't take Bindi and Juno very long to learn to look upwards instead of digging - bravo! As usual, excellent camera work Maggie! Looking forward to the other part of this hunt, & hopefully sequels of this hunt to clear out this farmer's orchard👍
This is my old, long-legged lurcher's favorite channel. My young dog gets too excited aafter a few minutes and has to thrash around with her squeaky toy. 😋
I just love these dogs. And I grew up with a small apple orchard! At the time our Dalmatian and our cats kept birds and vermin away! Now I finally see the benefits.
Thank you Joseph, in Cyprus we have many more roof rats than brown. Grateful for having Whip Snakes which keep the numbers down. HAHA would love to see you train a snake!! 🐶🐶🤗🤗
the young bloods are blending in better than I thought they would so soon!! So cool to watch Bindi & Juno learn new tricks in real time. That poor farmer having rats in his trees?
And the little dogs look promising so far !! I know it's still super early but they look wayyy more serious already than Bella or Tag, can't wait to see how it goes!!!
Joe, I got your book a few years ago and have read it through and then some. Your instincts for animal behavior are similar to Steve Irwin and his family now. Yeah. You and your awesome wife on the camera and the girls. It’s beyond unique with the mink, of course and the dogs. The imagination you use to train these animals is so intuitive and powerful. And much of which is unexplored areas of training techniques. Cripes! Wow✝️👍🏻🇺🇸👊🏻
Juno has learned a lot it seems. She has gotten much better at focusing and is now almost competing with Bindi! Is she your dog? I recall you mentioning that she belonged to someone and you just had her to work with her for a bit, but not sure if I remember correctly
I owned a Rat Terrier for 15 yrs! She loved chasing squirrels in our yard! Maybe had she been QUIET and not warned them, she might have actually CAUGHT ONE. 😂 I MISS LACEY GIRL!
During 7-8 months of the year the leaves shelter them from predatory birds. Then the high-ish dead grass shelters them in the winter. This place needs snakes. Tons of em.
I remember frequenting a local stable as a kid for horse lessons. They had this tiny terrier dog that was just the coolest thing ever in the eyes of my second-grade self. He had the run of the place, able to jump at least four feet into the air. In the hay bale storage room, he had these little tunnel entrances way off the ground that he’d go flying up into and disappear, only to emerge with a bloody muzzle and an exhilarated terrier smile a few minutes later. Every so often he’d start working on a new tunnel, carving his way between the bales to find more rats. Terriers are cool dogs, pit bulls included.
Bindi looks like she's not liking your attention going elsewhere with other dogs lol. Never seen her trying to take other dogs rats. She's really trying to impress ypu and stay number 1 lol. Great content. Would really like to see you try another monitor.
Another cool video Joseph - and your kids are so cute! Would it help if you blocked some of the holes in the surrounding trees after you've found a tree rat so it has let chance of finding another hole to escape into? That seemed to be your biggest problem with these critters during this hunt (that they would escape from one hole to another). Maybe you could plug the holes with the cut-off top halves of plastic bottles (making a sort of funnel) and maybe then some of the rats would, in their haste to escape, still try to jump in the holes and get stuck!
I wonder if one of those $80 thermal cameras, that connect to your phone via USB C would be of benefit. Perhaps put one on a stick with a USB C extension. It might make it easier to check the holes in a tree.
I would suggest building the rats nice little homes in the trees. Leave them up for a time and then see if you can capture them easier. Crazy idea,, but you never know.
Awesome to see the new crew working together for the first time, especially on a new-ish prey. I'm curious whether the mink are good enough climbers to be chasing those rats across branches through trees- probably the rats are too fast and better climbers, mink mostly swim.
I rescued a white dove that was being attacked by rats. I was actually shocked that rats would attack birds. I moved the bird and three days later the bird was back almost in the same spot she was attacked. I took her home. I live in Florida and we call them fruit rats but I guess they are roof rats. I see them on my roof running on power lines. I have a Jack Russell who has been able to catch a few.
In Hawai'i we fight rats and pigs constantly. Our rats come in on ships and multiply in heavy numbers and everyone one of them climb and live in trees. I feel your pain.
That shot of you throwing Bindi at that rat is INSANE!!!!
bindi has to be the smartest dog ive ever seen, hands down.
@@duckmama I can't wait to finish editing that video so you guys can see it!!!!
I was just about to comment the same thing. I haven't even watched the full video yet!!
Right!!! Haven't subscribed since Shirnee
I'm back to see the amazing Minkman
Reminds me of a kitten I used to hold up so he could catch bugs on the ceiling while housesitting. :)
Bindi is more impressive though.
Dear Sir, You are so lucky to have such good doggies!! Thank you for sharing these work videos with us!
those new little dogs seem to have meshed right into the pack and are natural born rat slayers! awesome!

Bindi is my fav on this channel! She's just so smart and well trained.
Nice film work following the rats through the trees
The rat Parkoured across half the orchard and still got caught.
That was some excellent camera work! I couldn't have done it.
@@wiuser1745 Maggie Carter has become such a pro you Maggie & Family
Looks like your new pups are going to work out.
Maggie got Juno to listen to her at about the 8 min. mark. Made me chuckle. She has said that the dogs do not listen to her. Good job Maggie.
At 6:10
Love those new pups you must be so proud of those young ladies! Good job dad!
Cherry showing her sense of smell with Bindi and Juno. And there's that crazy shaking by Paps.

The Carter girls are getting so big!
Kudos for loving your family and animals. Your a good man and wife and child are great. Power to the people

Our cats brought our dad mice and rats home every night

What a delightful change of pace. Your new females seem to fit right in. Greetings from San Diego.
Good old fashioned family bonding and fun 😊
Thanks!
Thank you!!! Very generous of you!
This looks like a massive job given how big this orchard is.
Bro I watched you 6 to 7 years ago nice seeing you still making vids
And the little dogs look promising so far !! I know it's still super early but they look wayyy more serious already than Bella or Tag, can't wait to see how it goes!!!
Yes they are DEFINETLY starting out better than both Tag and Bella ended up! Hopefully they keep improving, because we really love them both!
I love the fact that you are getting your family involved in it!
I started watching these videos a few days ago. Very interesting and cool. Thank you for taking us on the road with you
sweet, this looks like it will be a good one, looking forward to it
maggie is just the best with the camera
Man, Bindi is the ratting goat, no if when but's or coconuts ! 😍🐾
You are an incredible trainer. I love that the whole family helps.

I'm glad you enjoyed my book! Thanks for the kind words.
I never knew apple trees had so many hollow spaces.
They do when you have roof rats chewing up the poor trees!
@@JosephCartertheMinkMan,
Can the farmer fill in those holes to prevent more vermin?
Apple wood is said to be sweet....I don't know if it's true.
That was awesome! Bindi and the pack figured that tree rat habitat out pretty quickly.
LOL I commented on this early this morning but could not wait so I went to The Exclusive Club & watched it lol
Well done everyone brilliant and the dogs soon picked it up 👌👍👍
Great video Joe and it's always a pleasure watching your team work ❤❤❤
Great job by all! Loved the "by you tube"! Dogs looked on point!

I once watched a video of a UA-camr who used an electric baton to hunt rats in holes, but then his videos simply disappeared from the platform
UA-cam probably kicked him off.
Working dogs (and all breeds have "jobs" so humans must learn what those are) are happy dogs. These dogs are livin' their best lives!! Awesome.
Who knew ?? Rats in trees ?? Way to go, dogs and humans !!!
I owned a Rat Terrier for 15 yrs! She loved chasing squirrels in our yard! Maybe had she been QUIET and not warned them, she might have actually CAUGHT ONE. 😂 I MISS LACEY GIRL!
Love how the girls celebrate each successful catch
Lord they are HUGE rats!! And inside the holes if trees. I am surprised owls or hawks don't come feed on them
During 7-8 months of the year the leaves shelter them from predatory birds. Then the high-ish dead grass shelters them in the winter.
This place needs snakes. Tons of em.
We did find a dead rat that we believe had been prayed on by some kind of bird of prey.

The drive of your dogs are amazing!
I like the way these videos are set up. You get a story on how and why. I'm now subscribed
Pitbulls are great tree climbers 💪
THIS ONE LOOK RLY COOL
My pittie would LOVE this job, Bindi and the pack are living their best life
Great camera work
Que bien que lo pusiste en castellano!🙌
Its good he helps out the burrowing owl, he should try and incourage barn owls as well, both are very fun to watch
Your description at the start was a awesome introduction to your video 🤌🏿
I WATCHED THIS AT 4:30 AM AND WAS ONE OF THE FIRST I THINK 13 PEOPLE TO SEE IT HEHE LOVE UR VIDEOS
heh kudosto the camera lady w the running rat in the trees footage!
The camera lady is Joe`s wife Maggie Carter

Good grief. A treetop rat invasion, but not to worry - we have the Top Team out from the Mink Man Crew. Everything is under control !!
This looks like so much fun, great work everyone!
If the farmer had a tree shaker 😂😂 would have made it a lot easier
😆
Awesome video, training on the fly going after a different set of rats, great job team minkman!
Train a Marten or a Fisher to get roof rats !!
You should get camera collars for the dogs so you could get their perspective of them cstching the rats

Joe you need a weasel😃👍
Think its time for the Mink Man to become the Martin Man 🤣😂
Rattus Rattus is the superior rat.
Bindi is the GOAT no question!!
It seems like one of your more pleasent outings: no digging and no watter waiding and warmer.... Entusiastic slightly older kids.

Mink can climb, but definitely NOT that well!!!
Thanks for the video.
That is hard hunting. I would say roof rats are smarter as well.
Could they be smoked out of the trees using bee hive smokers?
So interesting, thank you!
It seemed Bindi was overly interested the other dogs catch, as compared to other videos? Was that due to little activity?
I noticed the same thing. I think it's like you said, so much work for so little action caused her to be more pushy than usual.
waiting for some vegan to go "all animals deserve life" despite the fact that rats are so damaging.
Try beekeeper smoke in the tree holes to smoke em out?
this was crazy
Wow this has been an awesome video.

Seems to me the little terriers might make great tree climbing assets.
Bindi and Juno got a promotion
Do you need to get the dogs extra vaccinations or something to protect them against rat bites?
Yes, they are vaccinated against Leptospirosis
Amazing team great job
Great video mister
cherry like 1/4 the size of Bindi 😯

Doing good work
