    Very Good points made here. I had one arm pop out twice !!!!!! I totaly freaked out at this event . The roof colapsed , luck it was the wardrobe rear right side. The wardrobe saved the total roof falling in that corner.
    I managed to push the roof corner back up and placed the safety pole back in. The lifting spring came out and the white retaining clip had failed. I called Bayswater Jayco and they didn"t want to know about it. Book it in for service in 3 months....... what a joke !!!!!!.
    I opened the rear inside the camper under the wardrobe. This was easy to do just fold down the wardrobe and open the ply wood panel.
    Now i needed to unwind the winch slightly to relece the tention on the cables which drives a shuttle slug. This slug pushes the lifting spring up the tube. I supported all the roof external corners so I could un wind the winch very slowly, pushing the slug back down the tube so the spring can go back in the slide tube.
    i wound off 2 turns and went inside to push the slug back along the tube.
    Once enough backing off of the slug the spring will slide back down along the tube.
    I had to get the slug back in the tube free again before I could do this.
    Now the outside square lifting arm can be placed with the lifting spring inside .
    This will go back in easy , then wind the handle back to the up position making sure the arm does not pop out again.
    As the retaining clip is broken make sure the large outer tube stays well down.
    I now prop every corner and guy rope all corners down to the ground with pegs, also tie the foof to a tree if close enough.
    This causes very high stress levels and im not happy with the design of the van lifting system.
    It could be much better as the lifting arms are way to small .
    I will have the arms replaced and serviced in 6 months when I am back in Australia.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks mate. First trip this weekend and this happened on our first test setup. (Unlucky). Wife is stressed off her head about it. This has certainly eased our minds. And a can of Silicone spray is in the van.

    When we bought our Jayco Eagle through a private sale, we were told by the seller that we had to walk around as we were winding up to make sure all of the lower sleeves were pulled all the way down and to never let them go up till the inner/upper sleeves had maxed out 🤦‍♂️
    Only when I had a tube pop out and I researched did I find the complete opposite is true.

      Hi. We have just purchased a 2004 Eagle and got the same advice. As we were setting up the first time we forgot to pull the big post down and one of them came out! I'm guessing the issue was that the small one didn't extend and instead pulled forced the big one out?
      I see you are now of the opinion that the large post should be pulled up rather than down.
      I'm so confused about what is right now?

    What could have happened to the arms while replacing roof. The 2 nd and 3rd arm doesn’t rise by itself causing roof not to rise completely.

    Hi Gerard
    I have a 2012 Jayco Outback Camper.
    Had the same problems with the middle brass lifter arms.
    I installed a 2mm stainless Steel Wire to all 4 middle brass lifters , limiting each middle brass lifter arm extension to 700mm.

    thanks for video, noticed this on 2 of our poles not going up properly,is WD40 ok to spray on the poles?

      Yeah, silicone will hang around a bit longer. Hold a piece of cardboard behind the poll so you don't get any on the canvas.

    I need to adjust the door side up 25 mm. When the green cables are tight I still cannot push the door so it locks into place. Do you have any ideas on adjusting one side cables only.

    • @GerardHand
      @GerardHand  11 місяців тому

      First, check if the cables are twisted, that will limit its travel.

    I did pop out the life arm at about 1/2 way up. Got the spring back in the lifting arm. But arm doesn't want to go back in. Suggestions?

    • @GerardHand
      @GerardHand  Рік тому

      Perhaps the hole is distorted. Or you may need to prop the roof and back off the winch to get the spring further down.

    I need to replace lifter arm on swan out back 2016 is it obvious to tell if it's fixed with screws from top or bottom cheers.

    • @GerardHand

      Nut and bolt at the top and plastic retaining clip at the bottom on the outside. Be careful because the guide rod spring is under tension. Use appropriate prop for the roof and only do one at a time to keep the roof steady. New sqare plastic retraining clips at the bottom would be a good idea with bew lifters. And some silicone spray to lube.

    • @williamreardon191
      @williamreardon191 5 років тому

      Thanks gerard.
      After tension is off.
      Roof up etc.will the lifter
      Slide up and out or is there a fixing inside where spring enters sidewall.above guide bend.

    • @GerardHand
      @GerardHand  5 років тому

      @@williamreardon191 no only the plastic clip at the bottom, so once unbolted at the top hold tension and the spring will hang out the top of the wall. Slide new arm over spring with new retaining clip and bolt back to roof.
