    Hopefully those eye bolts will snap or just open up before a cable breaks. I’ve snapped two eyebolts and replaced 3 others over the years when the eyes opened up. Always keep a spare set of eye bolts. Note: you will have to open the eyes a little otherwise the looped cable end won’t be able to be attached.

    Thanks Gerard,
    I have a 2012 Penguin Outback
    You can access both front right and left front pulleys , lifter cables by lifting
    the double bed and removing the cover.
    The rear cables and pulleys can be accessed via the corner pantry and lift up lounge seating
    I have instant inspection access to all 4 corners.
    I cut out some openings of the play wood covers and put clear acrylic sheeting over the openings.
    I also installed LED lighting strips under to give a clear view of cables, winch and all pulleys and cables in all 4 corners.

    Gerard, thanks for the helpful video. Kind of crazy that a man in Australia is more informed than quite a few folks posting from the States. I found my 4 wires wrapped around each other and your tip that they should stay straight helped a lot. May have to replace one cable soon but I git them straight and adjusted.

    Thank you so so much. Very helpful to see it all. I bought a '94 Jayco CardinalSD and it's lift system was reconstituted very poorly. It looked nothing like it is supposed to be, and i would have never known had you not made your video. So bravo mate!!!

    Glad I watched your video,I have noticed today one eyebolt was opened a bit in my 2006 Jayco , Jay series pu,the cable was a little loose so I tighten it a bit,wondering what caused the eye bolt to open in the first place,hope its not a warning that the cable is going to snap!Very informative vid

    Thanks so much for this video! Seeing the lift system described and shown in this way is very helpful for those of us who are pictorial!
    We have a 2000 Jayco Eagle 10 SG gifted to us but needs the twisted winching repaired (hopefully) & one cable is broken. We are in the process of removing the cabinetry & replacing all of the cables.
    Much appreciation from the USA!

    We have a 2008 jayco swan. We love our camper. Thank you for your great video. It has answered a lot of questions and now help us work out why the cables are Twittered. We have had a bit of trouble with them. We need to replace one on the left back. Any hints to how to do that. I'm on Facebook if that's easier for you to connect us.

    Well done, I have a cable wrapped around the tension plate and all four tensioning bolts are bent. New bolts and some mucking around tensioning them correctly coming up for me. PS I think you filmed this with a phone held sideways, that gives the two black bars that appear on the sides on UA-cam. Hold the phone in portrait mode and the vid will fill the screen. Counterintuitive I know.

    Awesome upload Gerard...
    Im pretty handy at projects... just wondering what your opinion as to fitting off / fabricating a cable system sort of aftermarket style to me old ACT pop top camper trailer.
    Getting a bit older now and im finding it a bit of an effort to lift up the roof by myself?
    Keep up the good works and lets all look forward to those trips ahead once the country gets back to ‘normal’

    Thanks so much for this informative video Gerard. I have inspected the cables on our 2019 OB Penguin & found the locking nuts were way down near the eye bolts. Have tightened them up but find there is a very loud clunking noise coming from the gears as if they are slipping when winding down. Any idea what that could be?

    Good video. Was setting up our old Jaylark Jayco for the kids sleepover. Raised it, got to setting the door and adjusting the height and something went! So ended up with a scenario of roof would go up when winding down and down when winding up.
    Pulled the ply access points off to have a look and there it was. Main cable was frayed and one strand had jammed in-between the winch cogs.
    So can see I need to replace main winch cable. Is it possible to use the synthetic winch rope instead of wire to replace it with?

    • @GerardHand
      @GerardHand  3 роки тому

      Some people have used synthetic rope.

      @@GerardHand Cheers mate, found an old fishing shark cable setup in the shed. Same 5mm thick cable so used that.
      So I went about replacing the main cable. Done everything (worst part was securing the cable end to outer drum "gotta be kidding me!!!LOL)
      Measured same length and added 20 cm so to have a bit more on the drum. Everything eventually got done. Found there was a piece missing where the winch handle goes into square tube from winch. It ended up unscrewed itself and was inside the winch handle. So screwed that back on.
      Thought all was good but NO it's not winching properly. Had enough for this arvo and will have another look at it tomorrow.

    How do I stop the cable from catching in between the pulley & the metal bracket?

    • @GerardHand
      @GerardHand  6 місяців тому

      Just ensure the cables are under a little load. So when you pack away and clips on you, wind a little up to keep tension on. Cables can come off pullys when the cable is left slack and travelling down the road.

    I noticed your winding handle has been rubbing on the plastic at the left of the opening hatch (Visible at 1:10). Mine is doing the same. It seems like the handle is wobbling around as I turn it. Any ideas what this could be?

    • @GerardHand
      @GerardHand  3 роки тому +1

      They could have made the opening bigger. But you will find almost every one has a rub mark.

  • @timelessnewbornphotography4093

    Damn helpful! Thanks, if 3 of the cables are wound over each other that would cause issue too wouldn't it? I purchased a used Coromal (similar lift system) and looks like a cables been replaced but other 3 are bound over each other. I've already had to fix main cable as it was stuck on the outside of the winch 🤦
    It goes up n down now but it's a tough wind up. There's not enough info around for these lift systems, thanks for posting!
    Would you suggest inox or grease to lubricate pulleys and winch?

    • @GerardHand
      @GerardHand  Рік тому +2

      Inox will be fine. Main cable off the winch is because of too much slack after winding down. Also pays on pack up after latches go on give a tiny turn on the handle to take up any slack so the cable is not flopping around.

    • @timelessnewbornphotography4093
      @timelessnewbornphotography4093 Рік тому +1
