When he asked them how they have stayed together for so long they all pointed to Carl. I wonder if it wasn't as much asking Carl to answer the question, but Carl was the answer to the question. He was the glue.
One of the most stiff and awkward interviews ever…. At least for Carl, Bruce , and Al. Bruce and Carl are trying their best, Al seemingly can’t hear at all, and Mike’s having a ball in PR mode
@@theoloutlaw wonder what Carl thought of the question about Mike suing Brian, if I remember it was only a few years later the Mike and Al were also suing each other
@@user-cg7uw9uh6n Well, to be fair, Mike was only getting what he should have got from the early 60's. It was Murry Wilson's fault that Mike missed out on the financial rewards. It's sad because Mike had to sue Brian for something Murry did in the past, and that's why people assume there's 'bad blood' between Brian and Mike. Mike is not a bad guy in all of this, people seem to forget that bit.
1978, Correct! Carl made a fool of himself and was drunk at one of the shows and fell over on stage. Check out his version of 'God Only Knows - drunk' on UA-cam...Yikes! I saw Carl for one of the 92' shows here in Australia, and he was 'outstanding' and 'amazing'! It was like he had something to prove and really wanted to deliver his A game... and he did.
@@theoloutlaw Yes, I have seen the video of that, plus his apology. Obviously Carl was a completely different person. I also read the book by Rocky Pamplin. He went into detail about the 1978 Australia tour.
@@magictransistorradio4933 Carl was messed up at the time, and at his low point, before he picked himself up in the 80's and started kickin' ass again. Those Wilson brothers, sure had their demons. :/
@@magictransistorradio4933That's probably because the statute of limitations had to run out. I'm only half kidding here. Did they really not go to Australia for 14 years? No trips down under in the 1980s?
Wow. Really ordinary interview. Derren was predicable with most of his questions. What was edited out, I wonder? Fans want to see the interview, not music clips.
Since Carl was still alive at the time of Loves lawsuit I wonder how he could go along with Loves revisionist history of his claims of writing lyrics to so many of the early hits? Adding a phrase here and there after a completed effort doesn’t qualify as writing a song in its entirety. The Beach Boys in the early 90’s were cringe worthy and it was all Loves doing, an album like Summer in Paradise was the nail in the coffin and it was 100% all Mike. Without Carl and Dennis they never would have survived the 70’s.
Carl knew better than to respond in public. A comment to support Brian could erupt into a very unpleasant reaction from Mike during the interview. Plus, Carl didn’t want to be drawn into this lawsuit or another! Negative publicity wasn’t welcomed at this time. So easy to just sit back and tolerate; it would all work out one way or another in the end anyway. Carl wasn’t going along with Mike. He was supporting all of the BB’s as a band; this is survival mode.😅
Terrible audio and probably long time delay too, pretty primitive way of interviewing in the early 90's overseas, Thankfully technology has improved. Al's connection clearly wasn't working either.... Derryn Hinch was pretty clueless interviewing these guys as well, in short, the interview was 'doomed' from the beginning.

Great observation, I agree with you :)

Ha yeah! Mike doin' what Mike do best.
I want to say that this was around the time that Al was fired briefly by the band. But Carl backed up Al. I don't recall what the issue was.
Summer in Paradise. Lord help us.
Damn, the interviewer dropped the lawsuit bomb out of nowhere 😂😂 pretty cringy moment when Mike answered
This is so.hard to watch LMAO
literally 😭😭
Is Brian putting on an accent and interviewing The Beach Boys here?
I can't unsee it 🤣
That was awkward
Even watching it in the day, seemed really 'off'.
Yikes!

Could have been worse…No mention of Carl’s indulgences during the 1978 tour. 🤫
Summer in paradise became one their worst albums after still Cruisen . I love if they would release those albums for fans.
Was the previous time they were in Australia 1978 tv special when Dennis, Carl and Brian were on drugs?

Very rough, and about the lowest point in their successful career and right in the middle of a couple of lawsuits to boot. Damn!
Al with his headphone 🤦♂️ there’s about 4 different hilarious moments, none moreso than 2:08
What a cringe interview! One of their worst ever
Hitchy or Hinchy cant remember exactly but didnt really like his aggressive interview style even back in 87-89 when I lived in Sydney.
