There are supergroups. There are festival ensembles. And then there's this: The ultimate who's-who of guitar legends, plus a full breakdown of who is playing at which point in the song. Thank you Mark. Thank you Jeff. Thanks to everybody who performed in the track. And a huge thank you to Guy for mixing a monumental piece of music together.
Inspired by this divine session, I made a donation to the German children's cancer charity. I think we shouldn't forget, what these guitars heroes came together for this song. If everyone who hears this, makes a small donation for children with cancer in their country, this work will be even greater than it already is musically.

Mark knopfler is often overlooked when the conversation of best guitarists happen. For me he is one of the greatest and local hero is such a beautiful piece and for everyone to come together to play with him is a testament to how great he truly is
This is the we are the world of guitarists. How many billions of albums have been sold from the musicians in this song? Having this be the final recording of the legendary Jeff Beck. What a way to go out!!!
@@mdiarra2 My first guitar hero was Mark. Remember seeing Money for nothing video when it first came out I was 5 and it blew my mind what is that sound and how is he making that wonderful sound. Been obsessed with the electric guitar and music since then. So glad Tony Iommi was a part of this. My two favorite bands are Black Sabbath Ozzy and Dio era. And The Who. Hell and Heaven to me lol
Guitarists are a dying trade, this should be savoured, Mark knopfler my absolute guitar God, seen him 13 times and been an absolute genius in every concert and the likes I'll never see again, great to hear all those lasting people on here, hope this is around for years and years to come 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

@markknopfler sir I am 10 yo and living and breathing your songs. My friends call me out for not liking modern pop. But I can't get over your music. As a Wolves fan, I feel so privileged to have heard this played at St James Park for the 1st time, and saw Mark Knopfler on the pitch. The fact my team lost 3-0 meant nothing!
HANDS DOWN THE BEST COLLABORATION SINCE LIVE AID 1985...LEGENDARY 💖 🇺🇲🇬🇧🇦🇺🇨🇦 🫡 🤘🤟 When all our rock 'n roll heroes have left us, I imagine this is what 'The Great Gig in the Sky' would sound like! I hope this track gets billions and billions of views!! Music has the power to change the world, one heart at a time 🌎 PS: This track will live on forever....What an era the 60s, 70s, and 80s were for epic rock 'n roll, so blessed to have all these heroes.
Words fail me. All I have is to say thank you to Mark and Guy for this from the bottom of my heart, and all those who contributed to this. The most incredible work of art.
Unbelievable. Song means so much as a Newcastle fan as well, hearing it when the Black and White stripes come onto St James Park is one of my favourite things ever. Now with Mark redoing it for such a great cause and these unbelievable musicians taking part. Its unreal. Theres a few more I would have loved to have had on it, Nuno Bettencourt and Richie Sambora to name but a few. But its just mesmerising. Can't stop listening to it.
To anyone questioning how musicians contribute to society: Here's your answer. This is how it's done. Thank you to MK and everyone who contributed to this project! You will undoubtedly touch more lives in a positive way than you'll ever know.
This will go down as the greatest colab ever. Mark, thank you. You will always be an inspiration for generations to come, and will always be one of the most loved humans. To bring this group together, is not only a fitting tribute to how much these amazing artists care, but also to how much they and we love you. God bless you, and my biggest wish would be to one day get to jam out with you. Thank you also for inspiring me to take up guitar seriously. -ac
I’m so honored to have the chance to be alive to see this video clip with such an exceptional attendance ! Thank you Mark and Guy for doing it. And moreover thank you for this charity auction. Bless you 🙏🏼
Only when the video finished playing did I realise I'd just spent ten minutes experiencing one of those spiritual moments in time that nothing but music can give you. So much love to you all ❤❤❤
Now that’s epic! Orianthi caught me by surprise, I thought that was Clapton. Just incredible. Thanks Guy Fletcher for putting this masterpiece together.
Orianthi has been my find on this. Was listening to her yesterday and she rips some solos. I also love Joan Armatrading section. You think Bonamassa has taken you to the top of the him and she’s like ‘hold my beer’
Loved this tune ever since I first saw this in a Dire Straits concert video of the mid 80’s, I think it was live in Wembley when Hank Marvin, another of my old guitar favourites joined the band. Just having Bruce Springsteen and Mark Knopfler on the same record would have made my day. But then to add to these two, Dave Gilmore, Steve Vai, Morello, Hank Marvin, Clapton , Jeff Beck and all the others is just insane something I could not have dreamt in my wildest dreams.
An incredible group of people. I'd love just to sit in a room with them and just hear them talk about one another. Bruce Springsteen is my fav but really I love all of their music. This might be the last stand of true rock and roll and we might've not realised it.
God bless ya Mark, this is a gift for the ages.......Hank, Gilmour, Duane, Jeff, Frampton, Iommi and all those other Legends on the same track. I'm made up.
No words can describe the feeling of listening to this 10 min piece while reading all those names popping up in the video. It is truly amazing. Maybe the most significant musical release of this century.
This was one of the most beautiful tunes ever written and a tune that always takes me home. What Guy Fletcher has done is remarkable and sensitive. He's taken the absolute essence of every guitarist's contribution and made something so good I worry I'll never hear anything like it again. To Mark, Guy and all the legends that contributed, thank you. Thanks for giving this to us and Teanage Cancer Trust. Not much brings me to tears - this does.
Having listened to this many times, I can only describe this as a celebration. First, a celebration of the art of playing guitar, obviously. I cannot fathom anyone who loves guitar not being absolutely moved by this. A celebration of skilled production. I know of no better example. Taking input from over 50 guitarists recording parts all over the world at different times and with different equipment, and bringing it together and making it sound this cohesive and not the musical equivalent of a 20 car pile up is nothing short of extraordinary. Guy and anyone else involved, take a bow. Nothing short of a master class. And finally, it's a celebration of this wonderful song. So simple (even a guitar pleb like me can play it) and yet still so powerful, and so evocative. It's called "Going Home" because this is exactly what that sounds like and feels like. I hope Mark understands how much this song truly means to so many people across the world, and how much obvious respect he and this song command when 60 legends said yes to be involved in this project. I can think of no better testament to his talent and legacy than that.
Jeff Beck is often called the Guitarists Guitar hero, and here he is next to a huge amount of the most important, seminal and influential guitarists to ever pick up the instrument and his playing still sounds in a class of it's own. Hearing so many incredible musicians together is stunning. This is a monumental achievement and I hope does amazing things for the cause.
The Jeff Beck intro really does a number on me. What an awesome collaboration. Thanks for bringing all these fantastic musicians together. It's history in the making. That's for sure.
Speechless. And with the names. This is a timeless piece of song. Simple and so complex. Rich and so catchy. Thank you MK for all these years of music and thanks for all the musical geniuses who joined him.
I’m speechless. These greatest guitarists took an already legendary piece of music and elevated it to a stratospheric level of awesomeness for a cause that brought rivers of tears. Mark Knopfler is the GOAT for putting this together.
My favorite song OF ALL TIME just got WAYYYYYY better!! Much love and appreciation to Mark and all the folks that contributed to this most worthwhile cause. God Bless You.
I knew the opening was Jeff Beck. Thank you MK not only for putting together this awesome version of your great tune, but for honoring the great JB in this way.
I can't stop playing this, truly special! And now we can put names to the parts. I love it how musicians can just come together and put all egos to one side to just create something truly special. An absolute galaxy of stars on this recording and I hope this raises millions for the causes.
Do you know how lucky we all are to have heard these amazing artists come together for an incredible cause? Think about it, all of these incredible masters of their instruments playing together and we are so lucky! 2024 to hear them play! Mark Knopfler you are a genius! You are amazing! Thank you for pulling all of these amazing talented musicians to do this song for a great cause!!!! And thank you to all the musicians, studio personnel, video, sound , down to the last person who had to turn the lights off.
I fall apart every time I hear this version. There are a couple of friends who would have loved to hear it. And we could guess who was playing, and talk for hours about the concerts, songs and music that these heroes endowed us with. Magnificent! Thank you.
Every time I hear this version I get moved to tears. How grateful I am to all these unrepeatable artists. And for me this is the song that definitively ends the debate of who is the best guitarist in history. We all have a favorite, but the best? They all are. All. With the same instrument, it seems that they speak 3000 different languages in this song. Each one of them has its own language, its art, its magic. what a beauty, what a jewel. Thank you, artists.
A few of my favorites I didn't see here: Mick Taylor, Carlos Santana, Dickey Betts, Duane Allman, Bob Weir, Jerry Garcia, Keith Richards. I've loved Mark Knopfler since I first heard him in 1978!
Rage Against The Machine playing with The Shadows. Braid Paisley playing with Black Sabbath. I mean - it's crazy. But in the most beautiful way you could ever imagine. It will never happen again and probably easier to list iconic or virtuoso guitarists not on it than are. It's so incredible.
Majstersztyk... och Masterpiece!!! This is how beautiful people make beautiful music to make the world a more beautiful place. Thanks Mark Knopfler and Guy Fletcher. Just touching a string... Just touching!!!
Guy Fletcher deserves a Knighthood for mixing that with all those parts👏👏

There are supergroups. There are festival ensembles. And then there's this: The ultimate who's-who of guitar legends, plus a full breakdown of who is playing at which point in the song. Thank you Mark. Thank you Jeff. Thanks to everybody who performed in the track. And a huge thank you to Guy for mixing a monumental piece of music together.
The seamless flow of music between Peter Frampton and Sash is epic!
This is one of the coolest things I've ever heard and seen.
Its my life flashing in front of my face as a guitar player
yes definitiv 🎸🎸🎸
Inspired by this divine session, I made a donation to the German children's cancer charity. I think we shouldn't forget, what these guitars heroes came together for this song. If everyone who hears this, makes a small donation for children with cancer in their country, this work will be even greater than it already is musically.
Yes yes yes yes
Started tearing at Jeff Beck’s opening chords 😢
You bet! Very emotional throughout!
Immediate tears. Involuntary. I didn’t even have to blink.
Me too. I saw him at his next to last concert. I choke up every time I put my concert shirt on. 💔
What a truly landmark recording.

Happy 75th birthday Maestro. Thanks for the last 46 years of great music. And thankyou in advance for the gems yet to come.
Thanks to all involved in this project. Music is a healing power. Peace and love.
Good Catch! 😉
Ringo Star ; Nile Rodgers; Brian May, Ronnie Wood; David Gilmour; Joe Walsh, The Boss himself and on and on.... 😀
Guitarists are a dying trade, this should be savoured, Mark knopfler my absolute guitar God, seen him 13 times and been an absolute genius in every concert and the likes I'll never see again, great to hear all those lasting people on here, hope this is around for years and years to come 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
9.40 minutes isn’t long enough. I just want to listen to these magicians play and play and play this song all day long. Rock’s greatest supergroup 🎶🎸🤘🏻
85 B-sides, maybe?
We need a directors cut😅 30 min.
Repeat - repeat - repeat ...
It can go on forever !!
I used to think the original version and then the live version wasn't long enough. Now I think that this version isn't long enough.
My eyes are watering. This is larger than life.
Wow, Brian May sounds amazing…What a beautiful interpretation and of course he has the most beautiful sound
He's one of only a handful of players who even the average listener can pick out immediately. One note and you know.
Yeah, his tone is absolutely searing hot here. I've replayed his and Sonny Landreth's features multiple times now.
Thanks to Guy for this fantastic montage. A huge amount of work and a unique result.
you know your living in the right time when your local hero still manages to pull off beautiful things like this. thank you mark knopfler, for everything you have given me.
Sir Brian May, you touch a string and your name doesn't even need to be there, the world knows it's you. Congratulations to everyone
Yep, one note and you know!
Exactly
Finally we can see who is playing! What a masterpiece!!❤
One the most moving tracks I will ever hear in my whole life…..
They need to release a DIRECTOR’S CUT!! 15-20 mins at least!!! Thank you Mark and Guy for this slice of history.
Very nice idea
Exactly my thoughts!
Unmistakable Ry Cooder. Holy cow, there's so many gathered here! Jeff Beck's intro can make me cry. It shows the genius of Mark the maistro.
What Heaven will sound like.
@markknopfler sir I am 10 yo and living and breathing your songs. My friends call me out for not liking modern pop. But I can't get over your music. Sultan of swing was the song which got me my first guitar. .. and now I can play couple of your greatest hits. ❤. My next learning song is this .. my dad says this songs feels like relaxing with family and having good time.
Young man, you have a better ear for great music than your friends! ❤
You have great taste in music, well done and keep learning the greats!!!
I was 13 when I watched Alchemy, and changed my world. So you have 3 extra years of joy than me!
Your friends will follow fashion like sheep, but if you follow your heart, music will be your friend for life
I love your comment young kid! On your way!
Keep it up! 🤘💪🎸
Congratulations to Mark Knopfler and everyone who participated in this act of love, kindness, empathy and solidarity. The most beautiful thing I've heard in a long time... ❤🎶🎵
Truly amazing, l lose my husband to lung cancer 😢this album is a treasure. Sometimes l cry because he is gone. Time heals nothing. You learn to accommodate the pain. I can't imagine losing a child to cancer 💔
Bless you for caring. Thank you
Sorry for your loss,❤

Anyone else who shed some tears?
Yep, me too. How very beautiful ... tears streaming down my face..... stunning. Thank you!
I ahed tears the first time or two. Now this 73 year old body just dances to it on replay after replay.
This is a "Once in a Lifetime" event! Well done Mark!
As a Wolves fan, I feel so privileged to have heard this played at St James Park for the 1st time, and saw Mark Knopfler on the pitch. The fact my team lost 3-0 meant nothing!
Guy Fletcher did a fantastic job.
HANDS DOWN THE BEST COLLABORATION SINCE LIVE AID 1985...LEGENDARY 💖

When all our rock 'n roll heroes have left us, I imagine this is what 'The Great Gig in the Sky' would sound like! Wishing all those who have lost loved ones to cancer, love and peace. We will all go home someday. And to the survivors who chose to live instead of waiting to die! I hope this track gets billions and billions of views!! Music has the power to change the world, one heart at a time 🌎
PS: This track will live on forever....What an era the 60s, 70s, and 80s were for epic rock 'n roll, so blessed to have all these heroes.
You are so right! Many blessings!
Amazing... An entire generation of guitar players, who lived to create the style that we take for granted now.
Loved the little homage highlighting Jeff's screaming guitar to open the tune. Would be a perfect fit anyway, but in context it's indescribable.
To anyone questioning how musicians contribute to society: Here's your answer. This is how it's done. Thank you to MK and everyone who contributed to this project! You will undoubtedly touch more lives in a positive way than you'll ever know.
Newcastle United Football Club are super proud to have this updated version of ‘Wor Tune’
Big thumbs up for Guy Fletcher for getting this done !! 👍👍
Kudos to Electric Theatre Collective who made the visualizer video to go along with this amazing music. Very well done!!
Good Morning!! Best 10 minutes of my day❤🎉 Thank You All❤
This will go down as the greatest colab ever.

Caught me out too! Same mistake ……
Orianthi has been my find on this. Was listening to her yesterday and she rips some solos. I also love Joan Armatrading section. You think Bonamassa has taken you to the top of the him and she’s like ‘hold my beer’
I thought it was Lukather
Anche io stupito positivamente da Orianthi. Stesso stile di Clapton..andrò ad approfondire perché è molto melodica 😉
This needs a documentary....... The Making Off.......
yes that would be the bees knees
This is what we were waiting for!! Thank you Mark Knopfler, Guy Fletcher and everyone involved.
Mark Knopfler.... The great❤
So many questions answered!!
Would never have picked up Tony Iommi’s stints - really understated and gorgeous.
He was one of the few I knew immediately, glad years of listening to Sabbath has paid off :)
God bless ya Mark, this is a gift for the ages.......Hank, Gilmour, Duane, Jeff, Frampton, Iommi and all those other Legends on the same track. I'm made up.
Man, that is amazing. And loads of credits to Guy Fletcher who turned all these incredible parts into one masterpiece!
Awestruck by Jeff’s contribution. Phenomenal work by everyone else that contributed, this is an amazing historical event for a great cause!
No words can describe the feeling of listening to this 10 min piece while reading all those names popping up in the video. It is truly amazing. Maybe the most significant musical release of this century.
One word “Wow”!!! Never has so much talent been coordinated into a single song.
This is a masterpiece. 🎸
One of the greatest ever tunes. Worthy of this incredible ensemble.
For the guitar lovers, this is the heaven. Thanks to all.
❤❤❤
Just something about this song, it was written so from the ❤. Just wow and God bless all those that are going through treatment.
Jeff Beck is often called the Guitarists Guitar hero, and here he is next to a huge amount of the most important, seminal and influential guitarists to ever pick up the instrument and his playing still sounds in a class of it's own. Hearing so many incredible musicians together is stunning. This is a monumental achievement and I hope does amazing things for the cause.
when your contacts list is the who's who of guitar heroes from the last 70 years! Great to hear a nice feature from Hank Marvin
This is my 4th watch, it just gets better each time.
Now this is how ya do a charity song. The jam of all jams.
I just can't stop crying. This is heaven.
Neither can I, tears of absolute joy
OMG! I know! Every time I listen to this musical piece, I start bawling like a baby! 😥Beautiful tune!
Thank you.
Pure Magic
Every time I hear this version I get moved to tears. How grateful I am to all these unrepeatable artists. And for me this is the song that definitively ends the debate of who is the best guitarist in history. We all have a favorite, but the best? They all are. All. With the same instrument, it seems that they speak 3000 different languages in this song. Each one of them has its own language, its art, its magic. what a beauty, what a jewel. Thank you, artists.
Incredible! And not a mess, that’s the most extraordinary. So happy and sad altogether to listen to wizard Jeff Beck as the front-player.
A few of my favorites I didn't see here: Mick Taylor, Carlos Santana, Dickey Betts, Duane Allman, Bob Weir, Jerry Garcia, Keith Richards. I've loved Mark Knopfler since I first heard him in 1978!
What? Although just about every name you could imagine is here? Hard taskmaster…
Guy Fletcher wow what a mix that is trulley stunning
Rage Against The Machine playing with The Shadows. Braid Paisley playing with Black Sabbath. I mean - it's crazy. But in the most beautiful way you could ever imagine. It will never happen again and probably easier to list iconic or virtuoso guitarists not on it than are. It's so incredible.
Majstersztyk... och Masterpiece!!! This is how beautiful people make beautiful music to make the world a more beautiful place. Thanks Mark Knopfler and Guy Fletcher. Just touching a string... Just touching!!!
This is musical history. Privileged to be able to share their genius. Grateful to Mark for bringing them together and playing this magnificent song.
