Tushar Pardeshi she was absolutely GORGEOUS in her youth. Watch the deer hunter. Her first movie. It’s a classic and a very powerful film. Meryl was absolutely angelic. A stunning natural blonde with porcelain skin and fine features. She was really beautiful.
Glenn Close was great, but I actually enjoyed her in Dangerous Liasons more than Fatal Attraction for whatever reason. Cher really was BRILLIANT in Moonstruck though. She nailed Loretta Castorini. She deserved it.
. I remember the power went out that evening in my neighborhood that night. I used to live in Hollywood, so I decided to go to a gay dance club in West Hollywood to watch it in the bar area were they had t.v. monitors. Been a gay bar, when they announced she won, the screaming from the crowd was so intense it almost felt like a small earthquake .... LOL ..!!! 🤣🤣😂😂😂😅😅 The name of the club was STUDIO ONE.
Her make up artist, hairdresser and assistant came first. I noticed that too. Pity that. Especially since it came from such a fabulous performance in the film. Who knows what we would say with all those spotlights on us.
I didn't realize Holly Hunter was nominated this year. If you haven't seen 'BROADCAST NEWS' with Holly Hunter then you should. Great movie, great writing, great cast ....and Holly Hunter is a tour de force all by herself. Cher was great in Moonstruck. You really forgot it was "Cher" when you were watching it.
She looks so pretty on stage thru her here and when accepting her award:) i think its sweet how she honors thosebthru her and that were nominated with her thru them here:)
It's so unfair isn't? Jamie Lee Curtis has an Oscar but Glenn doesn't have yet? Why Academy? I want Glenn to win an Oscar even if it's a career one. An Honorary wouldn't hurt.
Moonstruck is one of my favorite movies of all time. Having said that Glenn Close probably deserved the Oscar but Cher did too and had already long career ahead of this.
Fun fact: Cher lost an earring walking up to collect her award. Double fun fact: she had no speech ready because she didn't believe she would win, especially because comedy is a very difficult genre to win in.
I feel so disappointed that Glen Close didn't win. Not to say that Cher wasn't great but I feel that Glen totally earned it! Cher looked stunning in her dress!
Honestly, I’d argue both Close and Hunter deserved it more. Cher benefitted a lot from getting snubbed for Mask and for fully going from “pop star” to “movie star” within five years. And it is a solid performance. But she shouldn’t have won.
I can't believe Glen Close didn't win for Fatal Attraction. That was the role of a lifetime for any actress. It's a testament to Cher. Both movies were great with a capital G. Simply splendid.
Cher was so gorgeous in the mid 1980s, don't care about the nasty gibes people comment on about her plastic surgery at the time, it worked brilliantly on that face and body. Deserved win. Great film.
Actually Sally Kirkland was excellent also. This particular year had REALLY deserving winners. CHER has been a star since like forever but with all the jealousy etc.... she had NEVER received recognition from her peers but this year she FINALLY did. VERY deserving and LONG overdue. Glenn has never won an Oscar but she has won everything else RE awards so no I don't feel sorry for her. She'll probably get an honorary Oscar when she is super old. (a few year's from now)
+George Hirst - awards are meant to honor a single performance in a single year. career longevity and/or other awards won couldn't possibly be less relevant.
Neither Cher nor Glenn Close should won that night. It should go to Sally Kirkland. Watch Anna, her haunting performance as new comer actress will terrified the s*** out of you.
@2012endofanerror That reaction is exactly why the poor woman had to run her own nomination campaign by herself. The fact she was even nominated (and also received some less-prestigious awards) is a testiment to her determination.
I've seen all of these films. All of them were incredible actresses in those roles and hats off to Cher for her performance; however I do not believe she should have won FOR THIS ROLE. Not to say she isn't talented or wasn't good in this role or movie but compared to Glen Close or Meryl Strep, she shouldn't have won.
I fervently hope that few years from now another major singer will walk away with Oscar for Best Leading Actress, I'm talking about Lady Gaga, she can actually win the prize for the remake of A Star Is Born.
The first movie Cher was in wasn't Silkwood, with Streep. I guess Cher doesn't want to admit that she was in 2 terrible movies with Sonny called Good Times and Chastity, which she named her daughter after.
Thomas Fleig her very first major film was Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean in 1982, earned her a Golden Globe nominee. While Good Times and Chastity more like a ‘documentary’ feature.
@@tommy9758.... I didn't know there was a film version of Come Back To the Five and Dime. I knew it was a play, that Cher was in, but didn't know there was a film until you said. As far as the 2 earlier movies, I agree that Good Times was more like a documentary, where Sonny & Cher played themselves. However, Chastity wasn't. It was just a terrible movie with terrible script and acting. Unless Cher stole a car and fled to Mexico, where she shacked up in a whore house run by a lesbian madam that tried to seduce her. Either way, Cher still didn't acknowledge that she had done other films before Silkwood.
This award to Cher for "Moonstruck" was a travesty of justice when compared to Glenn Close's wallop of a performance in "Fatal Attraction". "Moonstruck" was like a TV movie in comparison and let's face it, Cher is not up to the acting abilities of Glenn Close.
@@fanshorrormovies6249 this year is kinda stacked for supporting actress. My pick is Karen from Mean Girls for Mank. Amanda Seyfried is currently my front runner for supporting actress. Olivia Colman is also a front runner who will probably end up beating Glen again for The Father. Glens movie is to polarizing.
The idea of Cher winning an academy award almost sounds like a joke. Glenn Close seriously should’ve won. Her performance in Fatal Attraction was far more superior and more memorable than Cher in Moonstruck. Cher’s performance is more forgettable, compared to Glenn Close.
Cher blasts Nicholas Cage twice in the face and that's OK.....no one says a word....a scene that show domestic violence against a man and that's just A - OK
Love Meryl's reaction. True happiness for a friend! You rarely see it.
Exactly !!!!
love that people were cheering and laughing during the moonstruck clip. It shows that people love it!
I have never seen Meryl Streep look so beautiful anytime before. Watching this again and again, only for her.
Tushar Pardeshi Meryl is the QUEEN!!! The top standard!!!
My favorite movie of all time! Cher is stunning and a fabulous actress!
Ditto. I think ms. Close should have won.
Glenn Close was great, but I actually enjoyed her in Dangerous Liasons more than Fatal Attraction for whatever reason. Cher really was BRILLIANT in Moonstruck though. She nailed Loretta Castorini. She deserved it.
Yeah, really made you think she was Italian.
YES She was EPIC in DL. Why does everyone forget that?
Cher was up against some actresses in great movies that year. She did a great job in Moonstruck - she is so talented
Yes
Iyaaa kenapa manggil aku ??
This is one of the best acceptance speeches at the Oscars. She was gracious & genuine👍😎
The only thing i wished is that Cher had stared in more movies. She was really Amazing.. ❤❤❤
I love cher's reactionn lol she's like not a big deal

Aha ha ha ha. Queen of all gay !
CHER HAS IT ALLLLLLL....BEAUTY, VOICE, GREAT ACTRESS
Of all the people Cher could have dedicated the Oscar to, she decided to thank her makeup artist first and foremost!
Her make up artist, hairdresser and assistant came first. I noticed that too. Pity that. Especially since it came from such a fabulous performance in the film. Who knows what we would say with all those spotlights on us.
She was probably nervous
Beautiful speech, authentic.
You gotta love Cher!
Cher was brilliant!
Yes
I am not sure who was more excited for Cher's win, Cher or Meryl!
Such a great movie! Is there anything she can't do?! Prayers.
Love Cher love the movie one of the greatest cast and comedy ❤️
.My favorite actress......ALWAYS❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love u Cher!!!!!

Shes' not going to be ignored, Oscar!
The one she deserved was her very first nomination for The World According to Garp. If she had won that one she would not still be chasing after it.
Moonstruck is one of my favorite movies of all time. Having said that Glenn Close probably deserved the Oscar but Cher did too and had already long career ahead of this.
there were both amazing , AS was Holly Hunter in one of my favorite movies!!!
Such a toss up between Glenn and Cher!! I loved both of their performances so much, best they've ever acted, two of my favorite movies ever as well.
Fun fact: Cher lost an earring walking up to collect her award.
Double fun fact: she had no speech ready because she didn't believe she would win, especially because comedy is a very difficult genre to win in.
Her other earring fell as she was stepping. It wasn't quite visible.
Cher sitting there like I aint gonna win lol
I'M NOT GOING TO BE IGNORED DAN!
I text that whenever someone fails to respond quickly enough
Der Fremde one of the scariest lines ever spoken in all of cinema 😂 Still creeps out to this day 🤣 Rabbit stew anyone? 😉
CHER ⭐️🎶
CHER WOWW ,THE BEST MOVIE ,IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN HER SECOND OSCAR , MASK!! REMEMBER!!
Moonstruck and Mask in my top 10 of all time. Loved Mask.
I feel so disappointed that Glen Close didn't win. Not to say that Cher wasn't great but I feel that Glen totally earned it! Cher looked stunning in her dress!
There was serious competition back then... Today Glen close would win like 10 years in a row for every movie she would make..
Honestly, I’d argue both Close and Hunter deserved it more. Cher benefitted a lot from getting snubbed for Mask and for fully going from “pop star” to “movie star” within five years. And it is a solid performance. But she shouldn’t have won.
-Glenn Close
-Sally Kirkland
-Meryl Streep
-Holly Hunter
-Cher
Moonstruck the 👌 👍 😍 🥰 ☺ 💖 👌
Glenn Close has been brilliant so many times although Cher was every bit deserving - I mean it's Cher -
A third of a century goes by quick.
I can't believe Glen Close didn't win for Fatal Attraction. That was the role of a lifetime for any actress. It's a testament to Cher. Both movies were great with a capital G. Simply splendid.
Even though Cher stated that she made her first movie with Meryl Streep, Cher had, in fact made three movies before "Silkwood".
i went from Milwaukee where I live just to be there, and I know nobody, but it was such a big thing. I saw her win only outside the building.
As great as she was in "Moonstruck", I think the real reason why the Academy gave Cher the award was to make up for not giving it to her for "Mask".
cher should have won for mask in 1985 and glenn close win for fatal attraction 1987
I love it when Cher gets the Oscar for Moonstruck
The best performance that year was Holly Hunter in Broadcast News.
She rocks
Cher was so gorgeous in the mid 1980s, don't care about the nasty gibes people comment on about her plastic surgery at the time, it worked brilliantly on that face and body. Deserved win. Great film.
Look how pissed Sally Kirkland is at 2:41
3:05 she lost an earing.
Paul Newman. Cher. Moon Struck. Nicholas Cage. Mary Streep. Glen Close. William Hurt. Holly Hunter......
Cher was brilliant and fabulous in Moonstruck, but Glenn Close should have won for Fatal Attraction.

God, I miss Paul Neuman
Holly Hunter, definitely.
Cher deserved for ‘ Mask’ and Glenn deserved it that year for ‘Fatal Attraction’
Glenn should have an oscar
I love Cher, but Glen Close changed cinema with that role.
I agree. Fatal Attraction becomes significant and considered as one of the finest while Glenn's performance is still relevant.
Please go back to presenting Oscars to the actor in this format and NO MORE 5 PRESENTERS
My vote would have been for Glenn Close
GLENN CLOSE is the best!!!!!!
Wow! Powerhouse actors back then.. Nowadays just B rated junk are taken home the trophies..
Neither Cher nor Glenn Close should won that night. It should go to Sally Kirkland. Watch Anna, her haunting performance as new comer actress will terrified the s*** out of you.
@2012endofanerror I dont know her
@2012endofanerror another nominee. I guess it's because her film had been less well-known than the others
Not to state the obvious, but they mention Sally Kirkland and show a clip of her film in this very video.
@2012endofanerror That reaction is exactly why the poor woman had to run her own nomination campaign by herself. The fact she was even nominated (and also received some less-prestigious awards) is a testiment to her determination.
Glen Close should've won that one & I love Moonstruck
Cher always says Silkwood was her first film, I think she must be ashamed of Chastity as that was really her first.
First female Armenian to win.
Glenn Close deserves the Oscar Best Actress in 1987
I've seen all of these films. All of them were incredible actresses in those roles and hats off to Cher for her performance; however I do not believe she should have won FOR THIS ROLE. Not to say she isn't talented or wasn't good in this role or movie but compared to Glen Close or Meryl Strep, she shouldn't have won.
As delightful as her performance was it should of went to Glenn Close.
Should Win : Glen Glose her Best Performance Famale Year 1987
Wallace Souza Glenn Close did not even won Golden Globe for Drama, Sally Kirkland did.
Wallace Souza 1987 is a FEMALE year??? Guess years can be male or female; who knew..😂🤣😂🤣😂
Sally Kirkland here and Kristen Wiig are look alikes here!!!
Always loved Cher’s acting but Glenn Close was the rightful winner.
Glenn Close

Listen, if someone else had to win this, it was Holly Hunter.
@earl.c I agree. She started as the front-runner. If not Holly, then Glenn. The Academy had better choices.
Glenn Close was robbed!
Glenn should have won here, but at least she'll win this year.

1. SALLY KIRKLAND
2. GLENN CLOSE
3. HOLLY HUNTER
4. MERYL STREEP
5. CHER
One of the best movies of all time. Nick cage was wonderful should have won something. The writing was perfect hope the won. It was masterful at best
This still hurts to watch. One of the all-time worst decisions.
The "lady" who helped me speak in this Brooklyn accent? wow....Cher dont you know her name??? very bad.
This win was bullshit. Glenn Close should've won for Fatal Attraction. More like Cher in MoonSUCK!
This was a sham. Glenn Close should have won it for "Fatal Attraction." "Moonstruck" put me to sleep when I watched it...
