This is a review of the Setpower RV45D 12 volt fridge/freezer.
My old fridge had a couple of severe problems. When I realized that I needed to replace the old refrigerator, I set out to find a fridge that had every feature that was on my wish list. This Setpower Dual Zone fridge/freezer not only has every feature that I was hoping for, but it is also an excellent product. The build quality is great. And the fridge uses very little power. This Setpower fridge doesn’t have a Dan Foss or SeCop compressor. But I’ve found the compressor to work just as well as my old Dometic CF-24 that did have a SeCop compressor. This Setpower RV45D consumes less power than my old Dometic 12 volt fridge and it operates at the same low decibel level as my old, much more expensive Dometic CF-24.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.

Thanks for the link to the video explaining the 12 volt fridge. Do think you could share a link to your power system. I was thinking of going with the Bluetti Power station. I currently get by with a Jackery. I would really appreciate some information.
Thanks
You’re welcome. I’ve tested several power supplies this is my largest backup portal power supply: ua-cam.com/video/lRajZ6pihs0/v-deo.html
Bluetti makes great systems, too. Although I haven’t tested them out personally.
My van power system is a bit untraditional so I haven’t made a video about it.
When we are home from camping for extended time, I use my portable fridge as a ‘condiment’ fridge. I tend to cook more complex dishes when home and it works great!
When traveling, I use the fridge to supplement the 4 cu ft in the van. It sits between the seat up front. I put a dog bed on top and doggie loves be between hubs and I as we travel down the road
Oddly enough, I think that noise is relaxing.
This has been one of the best lay out of a produce I have seen, thank you
Thank you for the comments about MAX vs ECO settings. I run my little Alpicool fridge off a small AGM lead acid battery, and it never occurred to me that the "lower power draw longer time" might achieve better results and better battery life.
Great job! After watching your vlogs for a while now. I can count on that you will always give your honest opinion.😊
Explained in the most simple way. Thanks 😊👍
Goodness, wonderful, que bien to have a thorough explanation of a fridge/freezer with such honesty. I've seen quite a few just doing to sell and not seem as if they've thoroughly thought out options. This is a saver fir when I can finally hVe one. Muchísimas gracias 🙏
Peeps really like the freezer for ice cream! Yum!
Having the ability to keep frozen peas was my favorite. But, yes, ice cream would be a wonderful addition to the freezer!
Your code saved me $51.48, so thanks. It ended up costing $377.52 which will pay for itself in a few years with reduced energy costs.
Awesome. That’s a great deal!
Thank you Scott 🙋☕🍀
✌🏼
Looks like a really good fridge. Good review.
NICE REFRIDGERATOR
That's a really good fridge freezer. You make a good reviewer Scott. I'm currently using a mains power one with inverter, but I think next time I'll get one like that. They've really thought the design process out well.
What a great video 😃 and mini fridge is really nice looking. I have a really tiny black fridge and i tried it out and works perfectly nice. Kept my soda's cold and sandwich meat. But i think it's to upgrade. Hopefully will see another video soon again. Take care and be safe ❤💙💚💜💛🌷🌹💛💜💚💙❤
Thanks for the review. I am looking for a van now and was interested in a dual zone refrigetor. Thanks again.
You’re welcome
Great blog 💯👍
You really give thorough, honest reviews and offer even suggestions on what might be done differently for small issues. The price point on the fridge is great too.
Thanks Kelly
Great review! Took notes for when my fridge quits! Thank you! 👍
Great Review - looks like the lid opens from both directions too !
Thank you for the great review
✌🏼
Very helpful review. Thanks!
I will soon be using my van for camping and will consider this brand as a possibility (until now Dometic was in my plans). Thank you for opening up my range of possibilities. 👍👍
Dometic makes great fridges. My first fridge was a small Dometic. It was a workhorse for three and a half years.
Great review and a good Fridge/Freezer.
Thanks.
Scott, thank you for giving us a great review of this refrigerator. I have been waiting for a review of a refrigerator/freezer for a long time . Now I know which one to get to keep in my car when I travel for work on Weekends. Much love from Boston MA ❤️
I have been hoping you would have a review of any 12 volt refrigerator because I have come to appreciate and trust your opinions. I find a lot of similarity in your style of “things” in general. I continue to learn so much and to also see so many amazing views of your surroundings is just an added treat !
I actually have been looking at this particular model myself because I hope to be able to purchase a dual zone product. The features of this Set Power include averting I would hope for. I hope I can take advantage of your discount code before it expires. Thank you and your t-shirt looks great on you !
Thanks Darlene. It’s nice to be in a position to test out products like this.
This fridge has been exactly what I’ve been looking for since I started vanlife.
@@StaticCamperVan Thanks for your great video! You saved me and others I presume a ton of research and apprehension worrying whether I'd make the right choice; the right decision. I am ordering the Setpower RV45 today!
Done deal! Ordered from SetPower today and can't wait to get mine! Thanks again!
@@robertlutz2244 awesome! ✌🏼
So much practical information, great video
Thank you
Right on. Hope you enjoy this fridge...and feezer! 👍😎🇨🇦🍦
It’s been so awesome having a freezer!
Good info .
That is a cool fridge, excuse the pun
Thank you for an excellent, thorough review. I was wondering if there is something that could go around the fridge to lessen the motor noise? Have a wonderful day 👍
Being that I can almost never hear the fridge running, it’s not something that I would consider.
Great review Scott. Good information for anyone who needs one. Your point about Eco mode is also important.
Thanks Liz
Great review!!!!
I ordered one after your good review. I really dislike the size and noise of my home fridge/ freezer since I keep very little in it. I’ll live as simply at my small condo as I do when on the road. But, I’ll still keep the big fridge in case I rent out my place for extra income. (Somewhere, lol)
Good plan
Nice review, I wasn’t aware of the brand. Will check it out
Man's gotta have a cold Beer at the end of the day... 🤘
I don’t even remember what beer tastes like anymore.
@@StaticCamperVan probably not the best idea when your driving lots. Take care 🤟
thanks for a very informational video 😁✌️
I bought the ICECO dual zone last year, at the time it was a deal package with insulated cover included.
You did a fantastic review of this fridge. What would sell it to me is the clip lock lid. My other fridge had a regular close down lid. It created a lot of moisture around the rim especially if the lid wasnt tightly closed. Over time the lid did not tightly close anyway and the sides got mould regardless of whether the fridge was full or not.
I'm in Ireland. I will email the Setpower to see if they ship here. Thanks for this review.
Interesting. I currently have a joytutus fridge. Even though I'm not technically van living (yet) I have found it handy to separate my food away from the rest of the family because I have special dietary needs and the one family fridge gets filled to the max. I got it because I was going to buy a fridge regardless and I thought "why not just get a fridge that can be powered by the DC lighter thing in the van AND can be plugged into a wall socket at home?" I think I saw the review for it from Bob Wells. It's been going for a year now, no issues at all. The Joytutus also has sprung loaded handles and the divider and drain plug. Yeah, I found that I cannot trust the temperature reading on the outside panel so getting a fridge thermometer is a great idea. 💡✔ Thanks Scott. 👍
🦋
Thanks Scott! I was just looking into another brand and you may have just saved me $300. The other brand was only a single zone too.
Thank you. I really appreitiate your review and I trust your opinion.
You’re welcome
Cool! 😊
I wish I had seen this before I bought my ICECO.
Iceco makes great fridges. They are the sister company to Setpower.
But it doesn't have a freezer, alas.
nice fridge Scott... i think its time you moved into a bigger van my friend.. looking tight in yours now..ATB Kenny ;-)
I spend most of my time outside. I’d be miserable with a large van. This van has been just about perfect for me.
Hi Scott! That’s a really nice fridge. Have you recently acquired it? It does look different if I remember right. I’m glad you’re happy with it and serves you well. If I ever have need for one I would definitely check that one out. Thanks for the tip about the internal thermometer too!😎
I’ve had this fridge about a month. It’s been so much better than any of the other fridges I’ve owned.
I just checked Amazon and they don't sell that particular model anymore but they do have similar models. The capacity of the one that I have is 32 quarts or 30 Litres. It's 12/24 v DC and 110 v AC. and it will run for at least 6 to 8 hours on a fully charged Jackery 240. (In case of power outages, another reason I buy this stuff) but ... I checked out Static Camper Van's fridge and it seems to be a much better fridge, although costing more. I'd go with the one Scott shows you all in this video.
They sell the one Scott showed, not the one that I have.
My setpower works great good price iceco makes setpower and they use the same compressor as the domatic
Really concise and well done review, having worked on refrigeration the jarring during driving can shorten life of unit so rubber mat underneath could help. Are you going to add additional outside insulation to help with power use and compressor cycling wear ? Thanks
Thanks. I have tried adding insulation on my previous refrigerators. I’ve found added insulation doesn’t make a big difference. That’s why this time, I wanted a fridge with lots of built in insulation.
I’ll be talking more about this in a future vlog.
@@StaticCamperVan sounds good
Thank you thank thank you for this review! I am currently in the market for a 12 Volt refrigerator. Better put, I've been starving off purchasing a Dometic because of their price points. There is a HOBO on UA-cam, will not mention any names, whose reviews I used to follow. However thorough his reviews may be, he endorses products with questionable quality and poor customer service strictly because he's being paid to do so. Very intelligent creator, just with terrible ethics. I feel all of your viewers can vouch for your honesty and authenticity. Job well done Static! Just curious, can we use your code for other products from the manufacturer, or just the 45 qt. model?
You’re welcome. Glad to be able to help.
I’m not sure if the code will work for anything else on the Setpower website.
60w while running? is that Watt Hours? Some other youtuber said he has a much smaller 20L fridge set at 40F and only consumes 70w in total over 24 hours which sounds crazy good. I recently downsized my fridge from a big 31L dual zone to tiny 15L fridge set 40F and just accepted that my setup could not safely sustain a freezer. No longer drinking milk and juices. Good for leftovers and about 3 days of fruits, veggies, cheese and meat.. Storing bread , crackers, coffee and some canned goods outside the fridge where in FL it can get up to 110F - seems fine for a few weeks. Realized I'm just eating out more than I thought I would be.
The fridge draws about 60watts or 5 amps while running.
70w over 24 hours sounds like a magic fridge.
Very nice review!
Have you noticed any difference in temperature readings between the fridge thermometer and Set Point's displayed temp?
This fridge is about two degrees off. My last fridge was 10 degrees different!
Hmmm. Looks like that has a lot of great features. Can you move that divider anywhere you want so that you can determine the size of the fridge side and the size of the freezer size? Congratulations on getting sponsored for the product you wanted!
Thanks. But this wasn’t sponsored (I wasn’t paid for the review).
The divider must be placed in the position I showed in the video.
@@StaticCamperVan Ok. In any case, it looks like this model wouldn't work for me because I primarily need freezer space and just a little fridge space, but I'm not in the market right now. Was just wondering for future reference. Too bad it isn't more adjustable. I think some other companies offer that adjustability. (Maybe iceco?) In any case, enjoy!
@@lacha608 like I stated in the video, each zone in the fridge is independently adjustable. I have the larger size set as a fridge but that is my preference. Either side of the unit can be used as a refrigerator or a freezer.
@@StaticCamperVan thanks. I was wondering about that. Too bad it isn't fully adjustable , though. Like, in my case, I use mostly frozen and just a bit of fridge space, so even with the small side being used for fridge, a lot of that space would.go wasted. I looked at their website and I see.they have a 60qt model too that seems to be the same overall design. If I ever got one of these I would probably go with the larger size, but I would probably want something more adjustable. Too bad, as I see that they have a 3 year warranty on their compressor and some great design features, and you say you're getting very good energy efficiency compared to your other fridge. In any case, glad it's working well for you!
ive been researching this one and the bigger 60D that is only only $30 more.
both have enough room for my needs but only $30 more for the 60D.
i wonder if the 60D uses a lot more power.
still trying to decide and waiting for a sale.
but im also looking at the tc35.
decisions decisions.
It’s a good bet that the larger unit uses more power. Although, this 45 uses about the same amount of power as my old Dometic 24. In other words, the compressor is pretty efficient.
I believe the discount is still active if you use my link.
Is there a power usage difference between using the 12v plug or the 110 plug on the portable power pack?
Yes, a pretty big power loss happens whenever an inverter is used to change 12v DC power to 110v AC power.
A good estimate would be about 20% less power used by choosing 12v.
Very similar the my ICECO 20 but twice as big. #honestMessiah
ICECO and Setpower are sister companies.
Did you consider any of the COSTCO coolers? (What I like about these is the painless return policy.)
Does Costco sell a 12volt dual zone fridge?
What’s the best toaster?
This is what I use: ua-cam.com/video/UsmtB0r-sBQ/v-deo.html
I’m having problems looking for a link to look at ( buy) the fridge.
There are links in the video description as well as the pinned comment
I gotta be the guy who mentions the elephant smoking cigarettes in the room: the thing is a monstrous size relative to your tiny living space. I'm sure it's a great unit, but you now need to buy a much bigger van. Congratulations, you're now one step closer to accepting that new microwave I've offered you.
Oddly, this 45qt fridge is smaller than the “42qt” fridge I used to have. Pretty sure the old fridge’s numbers were a bit inflated.
And there’s No Smoking!
Scott,
I have the set power aj series fridge or freezer. I use it as a freezer. It didn’t come with the battery bank. Have you used your battery bank? If so how long did it keep it running? I have asked setpower after watching this video but haven’t received an answer. I would still like a user’s opinion. My unit came with an insulated cover which makes it somewhat more efficient
I have the fridge hooked up to my house battery because that is the largest battery and the easiest way to keep the fridge powered.
I have used my Oupes 1200 battery supply with the fridge. It’s almost impossible to give a specific amount of run time. There are a number of factors that change the amount of power that the fridge will pull.
I set my fridge very cold, just above freezing and if the air temperature is about 60°F, the Oupes will run the fridge for between 20 to 30 hours.
If the air temp is about 90° the Oupes will power the fridge for 12 to 15 hours.
Another factor is airflow around the vents. If the fridge gets pushed too close to the wall of the van, it will use double the amount of power no matter the air temperature.
@@StaticCamperVan my mistake. I thought the adapter to the ac current was a separate battery bank for emergencies. I have that too. In my class B I have a three way Dometic fridge and small freezer. I run the serpower on a Jackery solar battery. I’m going to get a 200 watt solar panel installed on the roof to charge the Jackery in quartzite this fall.
Noticed Cheap R V living guy is sold on cheap fridges from china. Buy one every couple of years for $ 300, etc... That's a lot of landfill. What's the warranty on set power? Big issue is how long something will last based on what it costs.................
Bob does lots of fridge reviews because he gets paid to do so.
The 3 year warranty from Setpower is better than a lot of companies out there.
@@StaticCamperVan +BOB IS BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 If he is getting paid he needs to spend some $$ for a haircut
Hahaha. I need a haircut, too!
Does the fridge stay on constantly or do you shut it off now and then because of the solar?
The fridge stays on. I base my solar needs around the fridge.
For proper food safety, I don’t believe that the fridge should ever be shut down.
@@StaticCamperVan yeah, me neither. However, I have been wondering because I've seen some videos they didn't so then I wondered if that was normal lol
From my experience, a lot of people don’t have an electrical system large enough to run a fridge. So they turn the fridge off at night because they don’t have the option of leaving it on
@@StaticCamperVan makes sense. I bought a very small used 12v cooler that also warms. Only paid 15 for it but it says it takes up to an hour to get cool and I am normally not on the road for more than an hour at a time so far, so I've not tried it out yet. It's really small but I could fit a few days of food in it if it was just meat. Anyway, thanks for explaining. Oh, I didn't buy it for the future necessarily. Unless .desperate to get started or something lol but I liked the one you reviewed.
Oddly, those little coolers consume more energy than a fridge. I wouldn’t have enough electricity to use one
Handles that protrude from the side are a waste of precious cubic inches in a vehicle and a better design is to have hand grips holes fashioned directly into the unit.
Unless you have a second freezer, what is the point of having a "cage" for the freezer for cleaning?? Seems like that is not a valid reason for a freezer basket.
Most 12 volt fridges aren’t “Frost-Free”. Meaning, they need to be emptied out from time to time to remove ice build up. Having a cage in the freezer would make that maintenance a little quicker and easier.
😊😊😊
