Hello great explication for the down speed with more pressure in thé plénum, good picture with the stronger man. I'm Always looking for a good exemple to explain to the New airgunners the good setup between the plénum pressure and the hit of the hammer. Good job to for the interest of the huma regulator 👍

When you tune, have your hammer spring maxed out, start low on the reg just like you did, and increase it till you get to the desired velocity. Then, back off the hammer till you lose velocity, then turn it a couple clicks over that point. This is where you want to be. If you have too much spring at this point, your first shot will be high because of what people call "creep". If you just choose a high reg pressure and increase spring tension till you get to your desired velocity, your fist shot will be low, from the same "Creep" This is because, in this scenario, you are shooting an unregulated gun, and the hammer spring tension is acting as the regulator, and your real regulator is just dumbing down the pressure supply from your main tank, basically acting like the twin regulators in the M3. your velocity, the next day might creep back up till it levels off if you try to tune it backwards, or Unregulated. You are supposed to tune the regulator, to your hammer spring, not the other way around. You can get it right doing it backwards, but you would have to be very lucky.

I originally bypassed the first reg on my M3 because the fX first reg was really inconsistent, worked well for a period, then after a few months started to get creep on the Huma second reg, fitted a Huma first reg also and this has transformed the refill time between shots and also 6 months later not had one bar of creep on the second reg, not one !.

In this one Im using the super high preasure (100-200) but since then I changed it to low preasure. Not much of a difference with the range overlapping, but the super high preasure stacking does win.
Regulators are not different, so just get the springs 🙂

When you shoot an air gun, the transfer of the air cools everything down substantially. So once the plenum gets back to room temperature, the pressure has to go up, I think this is a misconception and wrongly labeled "creep". The same thing happens in reverse in your bottle when you fill it gets warm, then it cools down and there is a couple bars lost. You would have regulate the air temperature in order to control this. What do you think about this theory.

I've changed all my AMP regs with HUMA in 3 FX for this exact reason. OK if you just need to take one or two "recovery" shots every time you shoot it maynot be so bad but when you get to higher calibres it does matter. For example, in a .35 calibre you're getting 26 shots per fill you don't want to be wasting air like that.

  • @johnhorsfield4361

Hi Peter, As you mentioned some AMP regulators perform better than others. I hear that newer rifles have the brass piston now, but my Crown mk2 which is quite old probably has the plastic one, however this rifle does not have a noticeable velocity change over time like my newer Maverick. I only have anologue gauges so can't tell whether there is any creep. Your experience working on the bellville springs and lubricating the parts before re-installing has been mentioned by others and has been recommended as a way of improving shot to shot consistency. Swapping out the AMP regulator for the Huma might improve ones experience but maybe working on the AMP reg first might make changing unnecessary. I really enjoy your videos, you are very particular and want to get the best out of your rifles and it's helpful to others to follow you on your journey.

When I changed the plastic piston with the brass piston I saw just a small improvement, but my amp reg was allready performing really well. So the improvement might be bigger if the reg had been bad from the start. If you havent seen that video, you should check it out 🙂

The Dynamic block has a max capacity of 250 bar reguardless of the regulator. Higher preasures might damage the system.
In terms of max setting on the two regulators the AMP will go to around 190 bar (not entrirely sure of the exact max but around there) and the Huma extra high preasure can be set to 200 bar 🙂

Awesome video and demonstration on both regs Peter I have a huma reg in my fx mk2 25 cal 700mm and a amp reg in my fx m3 22 cal 700mm both work about the same imo I don't have a problem with either one I polish the Belleville washers in both regs it helps out a lot for the reg creep well it did for me ,.make sure you tune your gun correctly I always go 20 to 30 fps higher then my desired fps I use the value adjustment to come down and the hammer tension it helps me out like that for tuning and creep . I used to just tune my gun to the speed I wanted it at and leave it then the next day say for example it was at 900 fps the next day the speed would drop down to like 880 and it would stay there or the spread and SD was very High or all over the place in between shots never consistent when I watched Ted bier the man the legend show us his secret on tuning his gun and Matt Dubber showed us as well how they tuned there guns it opened my eyes on how you have to balance the reg with the hammer tension ,anyways sorry for the long comment I can keep on going talking about this lol thank you Peter I like your channel keep on keeping on be safe my friend 💯

Hi Peter, thanks for the video.
Question: huma-air offers you two regulators possibilities (low pressure range - extra high pressure range) if I install the extra high pressure range in Spain where the joules are limited to 24 means I will break this limiter? or there is any other component limiting the power and I could install that without worries?

I own three FX airguns, all equipped with AMP regs. It seems you just have to be lucky to get a good one. The reg on my Impact M3 had no creep from the factory and worked perfectly fine out of the box. The one on my Panthera had a steady creep of 10 to 15 bar, even after a month of settling in at 120 bar. That one is free of creep now by giving the contact surfaces a good polish. My Maverick on the other end has a bad reg from the factory. Even with a good polish that AMP reg still creeps and has a slow refresh rate. It's just luck of the draw it seems with those regs.
