Accurate and fast pitch recognition is very hard to do. It can be done with software, but not in real time, because it's slow. This microphone doesn't only do pitch detection either, it also detects the vowel sound you're making. Specialized hardware can do this job much, much faster than computer software, which is why you can't really do real-time midi conversions without special hardware (like the fishman tripleplay for guitar)
Ahh ok this tool is more powerful with the recognition of drums and sounds, with ableton you could only get a note from pitch of your voice, seems to be a nice tool...
Sometimes it's just nice to have these immaterial things like software embodied in a tangible tool. Similarly to how you _could_ read e-books on your phone, but many people chose to read them on Kindles which can do nothing but that.
very cool...been doing similar with Studio One for years. Not all the bells and whistles and not polyphonic, but its amazing how much you can do w/out a keyboard theses days. Add a little Scaler and you've got a hands free production. Thanks for all the great stuff over the years Andrew!
You can probably also use the mic to check if you're hitting the right notes when you sing, or to record a melody that's running through your head before you forget it :)
In High School, 1990, we had a box with a MIDI port and a mic connector that translated sound frequencies into MIDI notes. Such devices have been around probably since the early days of MIDI. Also, with dance music you definitely want a groove, a feel, swing... NOT perfectly quantized as that feels too boring. House has tons of swing to the timing of notes...
I always heard it as "boots and pants" instead of "boots and cats." Also, I'd like to hear the full acapella version of this track, with all your recording sessions dubbed together..
It's cool, but this can definitely be done with software alone if you've already got good (or even half decent) mics. Probably some cheaper alternatives too... But yeah, I really do enjoy the concept in general, a potentially useful additional tool to a producer's arsenal, even if you're just wanting to try put yourself out of your comfort zone.

Great video as always, stay funky.

Soft of! At the moment the software is only available as part of a kit with our mic. The main reason for this being that the results can vary quite drastically depending on your mic and interface combo regardless of quality. Some can work well with a bit of tweaking, whilst others can be pretty terrible no matter what you do. Our mic just guarantees the software performs as well as we've intended, for every user!

I remember thinking "what if" about this type of invention years ago, and then someone went and did it! YES!!! The bane of musicians is having this quick idea that's in their head and then needing to get it out of their head as accurately and quickly as possible without losing it, and at the same time, the tedium of using technology often makes you forget what something sounded like in your head that first time you came up with it. Then you just lose it! That is why these kinds of inventions are always welcome. You can always record rhythms in your voice immediately and then change it up later.

okay yessssss, but why do I need a whole microphone? this seems like something that could be don't purely with software?
it would be
Accurate and fast pitch recognition is very hard to do.
@@frise6183 have you tried if its possible with ableton?
2:05 its like the MCs that talk over underground music. Sick

This is nuts. About 10 years ago I was imagining something like this, and the possibilities. Just wow.
When he started and it played the actual drums I lost my mind

Also, I'd like to hear the full acapella version of this track, with all your recording sessions dubbed together..
You'll love this then.

I'm 100% investing into this!! Thank you for making this vid man! Been a fan for a long time now
This has been something I've been looking for for years!!! I was super excited when NI's 'The Mouth' came out, but this looks perfect!
Vinesauce Joel's John Cena midis, anyone?

very cool! I've played with Audio to Midi in Ableton, but the software here is waaaaaaay better for this. Thanks for the demo Andrew.
I have a friend who used to try to teach me music sometimes. You remind me so much of him.

Even in writing this is super useful! No more hearing a melody and not being able to figure out how to play it just sing and it’ll tell you what notes to play

how do i sing “VOTE” in midi to appease jacob collier
Lol I saw that

@@skippityblippity8656 yeah thats kinda true. Most musicians are really clueless in politics and most of the time they are getting things mixed up. But again its up to them to vote or not. Jacob might vote for Joe I might just vote for someone else.
Andrew im not gona, lie ive been waiting for you to make a video on this ima use this to. Im new to music production so being able to beatbox my beats and what not i feel as though would be so much simpler. I now have to buy it due to this lmao i love you and keep doing you man! love your videos!
This looks like it would would perfectly as just a plugin, so you can also use your voice from the microphone at the same time, or use equipment you already have.
Could also be a great tool if you have problems using conventional equipment like a keyboard, drum pad or any other instrument really due to a disability or alike.
live jungle show with this would be sick
Before you know it you'll be able to use your mind to make music.
Yes, actually
Don’t wooosh me, but, Technically you are using your mind
Great demo, clear, to the point and with great examples of the product in action 👏
I used a vst plugin like 15 years ago that did this. Gonna look on some old drives and see if I can find an instal of it. Thanks for reminding me.
I think that a device like this is so good for turning ideas into music, before you had to take your ideas and transpose them onto a midi keyboard, now you have the ability to take those ideas and put them into a daw without having to think how to convey your ideas onto a keyboard.
Great video as always, stay funky.
"...we don't have these robotic pitches that we hit..."
So what if we just put an auto-tune in front of the input?
Isn't this thing basically a midi-autotune? It only gives out midi notes in half steps, no?
I think you can turn pitch bend off in the UI which will take care of that for ya.
Autotune in front of a (Boss sy-1) guitar synth pedal does an excellent job of voice-to-synth but without midi being involved.
Imagine secretly using this in a beatboxing competition.
This is the best video I've seen on Vochlea. I've been sitting on the fence for months because of the price after converting to CND... you may have convinced me.
I've got to have it. Been waiting 60 years for this. How much bro is it going for. Great Demo you're awesome!!
What is the importance of that specific microphone? Is it just a latency concern?
@@VochleaMusic Are there plans for generalization? I do not have the funds to buy a new mic and interface.

most of the ideas for music come at the strangest times when you're on the road and only have a phone in your pocket. that's the situation I find myself in when I would be utilizing this technology the most
5:48 is very specifically background music for "How it's Made".
Ha yes!!
Ok but honestly. This is just a normal mic, and everything is happening in the software right..?
Was thinking the same. I could see something like this make its way into a DAW.
@@Algorhythmic kind of a bummer if I'm being honest, needing to connect another usb device to my pc is a big no for me. I'm sure this could've been done software only but they did it for anti piracy reasons. At least that's what I think
Laughs in newtone
@@ImNotQualifiedToSayThisBut It has to do with every mic having different hardware, and they need to tune the software to the mic - this gives them the control of the hardware
@@MrSlicednDiced Sure, but why are they selling the software bundled only?
Have just ordered a Dubler after watching this, this piece of kit is awesome!
