Detroit Sports Decade Of Pain

- Detroit Sports has gone through a decade of pain from 2012-2022. With record-setting losing percentages, terrible trades, mismanagement, and an inability to perform in the postseason, all four teams in Detroit reached new lows at the same time. But with Dan Campbell leading the Lions and the Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings building a young core, Detroit may be poised for a comeback.

As a lifelong Detroiter this video was painful to watch but 100% true. Sometimes being a fan is painful and sometimes it’s pure joy. I’ve watched some of the best ever to play the game. Barry, Calvin, Stevie Y, Zeek, Miggy. Tram and Lou. I’ve celebrated championships, gone to parades, and been in the house for title clinching moments and historic milestones. I’ve cried both tears of joy and pain and I wouldn’t trade it for any other sports city. Don’t feel bad for Detroit sports fans. We’re hardened by the losing and pain. It makes us stronger. Detroit vs Everybody. If you want to feel bad for a sports city it should be Oakland. That’s pain.
Great video. As a fan of Oakland sports teams I can empathize with Detroit fans, but at least all of your local teams arent packing up and leaving
You got the warriors tho 💀
@@wrathofkaneeighty8 Not anymore. They did give Oakland some good years, but i was never a NBA fan.
that we know of
Yeah, I guess the warriors are more Frisco than Oakland now, yeah?
No one calls it Frisco…it’s the City
One thing to note as a Detroit sports fan: nearly everyone I know have enthusiastically cheered on the wins of ex-Detroit stars like Scherzer, Verlander, Stafford, Helm and others with other teams. In most cases people seem to be "its obvious they weren't going to win with us, so we're just happy they get to be on top".
Which means our fan base is soft as shit.
Sick Darren Helm shout-out. Was always a huge fan of his. Great player.
It’s crazy because I’m 29, been a huge Detroit sports and Michigan state fan my entire life.
Basically from the year I was born until 2014 at least one team that I like was competing for the championship or coming really close almost every year. Red wings in the late 90s/2000s, pistons from 02-08, tigers made two World Series/2 more ALCS between 06-13, Michigan state basketball was great in the late 90s/2000s/early 2010s, and msu football was rear in the early 2010s, even the lions were pretty good in 2014.
Watching the lions be good last year was fun as hell but it almost felt weird after the past 10 years of nothing but meaningless sports.
Honestly there have been big what ifs since 2008 with Detroit sports.
What if Pistons didn’t trade Chauncey? Like they could’ve been a 54-58 win team for prob just a couple more years but the finals would be unlikely with the Magic Celtics and Cavs on the rise between 09-10 and they were old but it would still be fun to see the remaining years left of a powerhouse that won a ship’
What if the Wings win game 7 in 2009? They were getting old anyways and a decline was coming but more importantly what about game 7 2013? They prob could’ve played in the Stanley cup since they were the hottest team in the NHL in 2013.
What if the Lions held on to the 24-7 lead? Prob win the SB
If the Tigers stayed healthy and had decent batting…they would’ve made the World Series 3 years straight from 2012-2014 with a title in 2013 and they would run it back in 2014.
What if the Tigers stayed healthy under AJ Hinch and didn’t nose dive awfully in the early season? They would be contenders from 2021-present
This shows how much potential Detroit has for a city sports wise
Atlanta in the 2010s and Phoenix in the 2020s would be up there too.
High quality content. Im praying this channel popsoff
It’s tough man, I’m not a tigers or redwings fan. So my joy revolves around the lions and pistons. The Lions have obviously never won a title. And in my lifetime the pistons haven’t either. And I’m a full grown adult. 2004 was that long ago.
Yeah it has been rough, the last 2 years have been nowhere near as bad as 2018-2020 when nearly every team clinched 1st pick overall in the same year but the heartbreak era that has been going on since the mid 2010s is still VERY MUCH ALIVE. Lions had a phenomenal season but literally blew a 3 score lead which could’ve made history, wings were eliminated from the playoffs at the Final Cut the last 2 years and got robbed by injuries and underperforming free agents too, tigers since 2021 have just been middle of the pack and the Pistons are worse than they have ever been.
You did a very good job on this video. One mistake though, it was not a mistake to fire Caldwell, he was mediocre, it was only a mistake to hire Patricia after
Why would I want to revisit any of this? AGONY
Hey we got the lions and the panthers in the playoffs this year and the redwings almost did
Dan Campbell’s appearance was the true turning point of Detroit sports like literally, not team had been straight helpless and bullshitting outside the Pistons. The whole city has been feeling his energy like the Wings Tigers have been slowly showing that they’re on to something the past 3 years, lions had a quick turnaround and now are SB contenders.
At least the Lions' future looks bright...
Also…. Good vid. I knew We had it bad, but when you really look at the numbers, wow.!
Hopefully the Lions get double-digit wins again this year. It would be their first time ever to go back to back.
Depending on trades, I think the redwings clinch a playoff spot next year.
Tigers are pissing me off, but theyre not too far behind KC, Minnesota, and Cleveland so there's hope.
The pistons are still a young team and I'm ready to one day watch them compete in the playoffs like they were back when I was in middle school and high school.
and now the pistons are 3-30 and went on a 28 game losing streak
And now they have the worst losing record in the NBA with 14-68
Growing pains.
As an outsider, three events were too blame, the Justin Verlander trade the lions Dallas playoff loss, and the playoff loss to the red sox when Joaquin Benoit gave up the grand slam to David Ortiz in game 2 of the 2013 ALCS, also the Tigers not having that lights out closer
I agree 100% because I unfortunately am from Detroit and every Detroit fan knows that the pistons are no good, the wings are not making the playoffs same goes for the tigers and lions and you might as well throw in Michigan football, since they cant win the big one. Youve got a great channel, great job!
I would delete this if I were u. Ur right about the Pistons and Tigers, Pistons just suck and are getting double whammied with a 2nd straight year being worst in the league and maybe even again next year, Tigers Mediocre…EXCUSE ME WHAT??? Lions Wings NO PLAYOFFS UM fball NO TITLE???
@@jacksharon1378wings didn’t make the playoffs. Delete ur comment
@@altqq1755 Lions are the newest NFL powerhouse and UM won it all
This didn’t age well
@@HonoluluBlue81 I feel like since Dan Campbell arrived in Detroit in 2021 it’s been going nowhere but up slowly but surely. Other than the Pistons
If I remember right: the 2003 season was a decade of pain for the Tigers.
You are correct and that post was over 6 months ago and I am wrong because Michigan and so far the Wings have proved me incorrect .
You could have left the wings comment 🙃
Minnesota has had some awful luck with sports too. I feel for you guys, PA has been doing pretty well all around
The Twins have been alright, just can’t make it past the ALDS. The Timberwolves have been pretty good too recently and show a lot of promise. Arguably the wolves have a top 5 player in the league rn in Anthony Edwards.
The reality is only 1 of those 4 teams never won a championship so it’s not that bad.
Easy for you to say if you’ve lived through that. I’m 20 and not old enough to remember the pistons or wings in 04 and 08 (I was born in 04). Tigers haven’t made it to the playoffs since 2014 and wings since 2016. I was twelve then. I’m a junior in college now. 7th grade up to my junior year of college, I didn’t see one playoff game for the wings or tigers. The pistons got swept in 2019, their last playoff appearance, and last won a playoff game in 2008/9. The lions just won their first playoff game in my lifetime and it took until I was 20. I sure as hell don’t see it the way you do.
Each of those teams has been around for 100 years except the Pistons so it is pretty bad
If you can record a VO, why not re-record specific lines in the VO to correct mistakes, instead of putting text over the video?
If the Lions win Super Bowl LVIII, they will put an end to Detroit’s 15-year championship drought for good.
Through 2028, Pistons horrible and mediocre as usual, Tigers might be decent, lions pretty good, Redwings will be a juggernaut very shortly
What’s worst pain? Stinking all the time or endless play off appearances with no championship?
Only a decade? Minnesota fans have had pain for 32 years.
At least we’re not Minnesota thats why I always tell myself. It could be worse
There other sports has won championships there football team is the 1 championship they need.
“The tigers are in the worst division in baseball”
Magically overnight the AL Central has 3 teams above .500 leaving the .500 tigers in 4th so far, but at least they’re not Chicago?
A year later... The wings just blew an EASY playoff birth, the Tigers absolutely should have a shot at the division, and they will... If LITERALLY ANYONE could hit the ball... The Pistons just got shafted AGAIN in the draft lottery, so they'll probably suck again... And the Lions are amazing and we're about to win this division again.
Colorado Avalanche fan, I hope lions wins the Super Bowl next year. F*** the Red Wings till the end of time
1st
The red wings it will be over next season pistons never

The City of Detroit is in a decay!
What about the effects of "Dayligh Saving Time"?
I am against DST!
Even as a Michigander, I couldn’t care less about the Lions. At least the Pistons won a championship in 2004 even if they blew the chance at a back to back championship repeat in 2005, literally in the final few minutes of Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The Red Wings too won a championship, back in 2008 and also had a chance to repeat before falling in the 2009 Stanley Cup Final. The most pain I personally feel is as a Tigers fan, however. I was 3½ when they last won it all in 1984, and the awful performances in the 2006 and 2012 World Series didn’t help matters. Barring a miracle they are all but guaranteed a little over a year from now to have gone 40 years without a championship-but hey, that’s better than *65 years* without one, right Lions? LOL
Dc gotta be worst than Detroit
Wait didn’t the nationals and capitals win it not that long ago
@alex-qr6ci He probably talking about currently
@@alex-qr6ci you right but it’s been almost 5 years for both of those
yeah but the pistons haven’t won a playoff game since 2008-09 and last made it in 2019 getting swept. Red wings haven’t made the playoffs since 2016 and tigers haven’t made the playoffs since 2014. I was ten and twelve in those years respectively. Thank goodness for the lions but that took my entire life until now to win a single playoff game.
the nationals and capitals won recently enough. but the redskins and wizards have been terrible
