DIY Cardiff Renovation: Are we getting close to completing this BUNGALOW renovation!

- Hey Guys,
Welcome back to our channel!
What our channel is about:
We bought this semi-detached bungalow in August 2022 and given ourselves 3years to flip the property and sell on. We have a target budget of £70,000! Natasha is the editor and video maker, while Rhys is the builder (a carpenter by trade). We plan on doing 95% of the work ourselves to keep costs down.
This channel is for documenting our experiences - Good or Bad. This is our first time doing anything like this with full times jobs! Can we stick within our budget? Will the building inspector pass each stage? and the biggest question...will we still be married at the end of the project? Subscribe to find out...

Hi both . Your going to be the plasterer dream customer , those perfect joints are going to make his life so much easier . Some of the boarding installs I’ve seen over years had gaps like trenches and bits totally missing . Well done as always 👍
Thank you, I wanted to make sure there was little room for cracking so scrummed up everything 😂 yes, I have some some cray boarding over the years 😅
Great details, thanks for sharing the calcs. It's coming on lovely now, well done.
Thanks Ched, we always work better under pressure haha 😂
Great progress 👍
The door hinge technique is such a simple way and they look awesome.
Love the colour too. On the handle issue it depends on would be asthetic in centre but think you need to look at how the 2 handles look from a distance.
But again the build is progressing so good.
Thanks Lee, the old saying K.I.S.S, keep it simple stupid. As much as I love all the new carpentry tools and jigs, I still prefer the older methods, heck if I had the time I would chisel all the hinges out by hand 😂
Well done both it’s really coming along now! I’m not sure what they’d look like together but I feel centre of the rail perhaps!
I had a question re the insulation… hoping to pick your brains! Is this 50mm insulation on the back of plasterboard? And is it just as easy as dot and dabbing plasterboard? I also wonder is it different to 100mm celotex? Like is 50mm enough? When we move my biggest fear is having non insulated walls 😂so have been looking at that insulated plasterboard but I have so many questions about it! Would love your thoughts as I know you’ve gone above and beyond to insulate your floors and etc!
Can’t wait to see the plastering next week!
Hey Meg, the plasterboard is 37.5mm and mainly used to try and prevent any condensation forming on the external walls due to them being solid 9” thick brick with no cavity. Some people go for external insulation between 25mm and 100mm then a thin coat render but then you could be trapping moisture in the bricks, as we opted for breathable render and internal insulation to create a barrier from the cold brick and the warm air. Hopefully this helped?
@@Selfbuild_TheJenkins Thanks both! I didn't realise the bungalow didn't have a cavity! Is the bungalow 1930s? You're doing such a great job I am so excited to see the nursery!
@MegC after we moved in the neighbour told us that her bungalow was built in 1924 and ours was built a couple years after in 1926 so our house is almost 100 years old! 🙈 it’s mad to think probably most of Cardiff has homes close to or over 100 years old. Does your bungalow have a cavity? The final coats of paint are going on this weekend and then it’s just the carpet, cannot wait!
well done! are there 2 handles on each door? if so i would go 50/50 to move the 2 apart a bit, if only 1 handle per door I would go centre of the rail. best of luck
Hi mark, yes two handles, that was my thinking and then keep them the same on all the doors 👌
