Yea rarity is a combination of: how hard it is to obtain and how good the mount is. If it's an ugly mount that takes many hours of questing/grinding or a lot of money, people aren't going to want to bother. The MOP world boss mounts are rare just because of low low low drop rate, but now they're much easier to get and will be less rare soon. Which is great, because the previous drop rate was disgusting.

That said, I view the raid boss (usually 1%) with the addition of those 0.5% cata dungeon drop mounts, blue/green proto drake etc as traditional mount collecting. Usually they're rare enough to be quite presteigious, tedious to farm, and they genearlly all look badass. (ashes, invincible, pureblood, storm drakes, hell fire reaver etc). Most of my fav mounts span from Wrath to MOP with rare exceptions outside in WOD and Leigion. Oh, and TBC had raven lord and ashes of alar.
Well it’s also just that the newer expansions haven’t been around as long for people to collect the mounts. For example during WoD I’m sure Pandaria mounts were much rarer than they are today.
Some of these mounts are so rare solely because players aren't interested enough to spend gold or time farming them. Some of the purchable ones have ridiculous price tags and the rare mobs that drop these have incredibly long spawn timers & drop chances. Silent Glider for example is just a darker color variant of a mount that you can buy pretty cheap from Nazjatar. I have never come across the mob that drops it, since the timer is so long, and drop chance is under 1%. I've seen someone with this mount and truly consider them a lottery winner 🏆

I liked it but only because you could get like 20 mounts from it. The actual acquisition of those mounts was quite painful but I like collecting as many mounts as possible, but that's just me. The vast majority of people don't play that way.
To be fair, some of these mounts were a royal PITA to craft. Two of them require a rare drop from Lihuvium in Sepulcher, or turbo RNG from Olea caches. The black recolors all require a raid to do an achievement on trash in Skolex/Artificer's area - for EACH mount. And the wasp and spider lattices are not fun to farm either.

I didn't even know the protoforms existed until I saw this video, because Torghast runs broke me early on in the expansion. I came back and did just enough before Dragonflight to unlock flying in Shadowlands. And I'm loving Dragonflight. Alt friendly, minimal time-gating, meaningful crafting system. And dragonriding made gathering more fun and fair for non-Druids. I've already played Dragonflight for longer than I did Shadowlands. What a difference.
I'm convinced these shadowlands mounts are so rare because people were too exhausted to get them. I know I was. I completely ignored the protoform synthesis stuff and burnt out of anything that wasn't my first covenant.
A note, that in order to get Kua'fon, you also need to get a Pterrodax Egg to drop, which starts the questline to raise Kua'fon from hatchling to mount. The egg itself has a sub 1% drop rate from pterrodax mobs in Zuldazar and Nazmir. Then, you have to do roughly 30 days of dailies, similar to the Venomhide Ravasaur or Winterspring Frostsaber back in Classic.
@DerwinIRL a guildie paid somebody to share it, then shared it with me the day before they fixed it. I started the quest to get it out if my log but it took a while to finish it just to realize it couldn't fly. When they added the part if the quest to let it fly I started working on it asap. My little guy was all grown up lol.
Small correction for the grey riding camel (number 73): even though the zone is stated as Feralas, you get transported to the boss from Uldum where you do all activities to get to the boss (finding camel figurine). Game just doesn't want to let you know where the boss actually is.
Grimhowl isn't just the Dark Iron unlocking mount, that's a single headed core hound. To get Grimhowl you need to level a Dark Iron to I believe fifty but might be sixty, then you have access to a quest chain started from Moira in the embassy that unlocks the doggo and some cool weapon transmogs.
So many of these that I have spent such insane amounts of time trying to get and never succeeded. Surprised to see how many people have some of my personal white whales!
I feel like at this point the game has become so barren, and mounts are released so frequently that some of these mounts are considered "rare" based on the fact that less people are playing the game, or nobody actually wants to farm them because they are undesireable lol.

The low owner rate on certain mounts in shadowlands proves how unpopular shadowlands was. Though, if you just play it you'll get a LOT of pets and mounts on accident. If you care about these things.
I thought that was the case as well but after going through the data I found that just a lower player count alone wasn't the sole reason. There was a lower player count for sure, but a non-significant factor is that SL was the most recent expansion (minus DF). When going through everything I noticed that most of the mounts from DF were incredibly rare. I'm talking like they dominated the top 30 or so, despite being extremely easy to acquire (a decent portion of those being way easier than the protoform synthesis for example). Even now some of the ottuks from the tuskarr in DF are owned by less players than some of the higher honor level pvp mounts. WoW was for sure down bad during SL but I think it's also worth noting that the data shows a strong correlation between time and rarity. In addition, a lot of the SL mounts weren't really that cool. Take WoD for example. It had a really low player count as well but the mounts looked awesome and they are quite desirable. As such (coupled with the fact that WoD has been out for a while), they aren't that rare.
I'm of the opinion that Nalak and Rukhmar are rarer mounts simply because they spawn mid-air and people give up when they cant get a tag and get annoyed. They really need spawns changed to just be on the ground or platform to allow more people to get tags on them before they just get nuked down by ranged attacks, and just less frustrating to camp/farm
I agree, although Nalak makes up for the short spawn timer. Blizz changed Sha of Anger to die after 2 seconds, so it doesn't die so quick, but that's ridiculously small time still. You need to target & shoot at the boss quick, so I've missed that a few times, as many others, even though Sha is on the ground. Like, why didn't they make it 5 seconds instead?? Back in the day these bosses were up for several seconds so lots of people had time to react
My Human Hunter stays on Zereth Mortis to farm for Protoform Synthesis. The problem with that system is it takes a lot to unlock, you also have to get the schematics and once you get them many require mats and the primary mat drops so little compared to how much you need for one mount. That's likely why so many of them are rare. I still only have four Protoform Synthesis mounts, including the one it basically gives you. The MoP world boss mounts are sad to see on this list because they're so old and we all know how many people are farming them every week because they're crowding the boss area right along with us.
I actually own the Solar Spirehawk and Ivory Hawkstrider! The Solar Spirehawk I got way before the drop chance was increased, on the very first time I killed Rukhmar. The Ivory Hawkstrider took days of farming, and it is something I would not like to do again.

Not a problem - I'm happy to do it! And yea that was a surprise to me too. I think it's a combination of those mounts being out for a while and people figuring out how to sell / commercialize the farming of them
2 Weeks old comment but, because of chromie time both mounts can be farmed in like 5 minutes. Not everyone is aware of that but still quite alot of player so its far from being rare nowdays
Very, very surprised that Desire's Battle Gargon is my rarest mount lol. I really like the gargons and that color scheme was my favorite so I made sure to get it. For anyone that is curious it's not hard to get. You invite the countess to the parties until you are best friend reputation with her, then invite her once more beyond that and if she ends the party in an elated mood the mount will be in her chest she leaves for you. I only was able to get one saddle for the protoform synthesis and that was from an olea cache and I need some schematics from the raid too. I made sure to get all the spiders and wasps since I genuinely like those mounts a lot. Don't even want to think about how much farming it will take to get all the protoform pets lol.
I would like to mention that the reason why this list is practically all BFA and Shadowlands is because that content is the most underplayed. Both expansions were strongly disliked by the community. This list shows it.

surprising how few players actually bothered to level a Dark Iron, i guess i gotta factor in that there are horde players that wont even bother playing an alliance race, and vice versa. being neutral i play any and all races.

I didn't have grimhowl just because I genuinely didn't know that mount existed. With remix being so absurdly easy to level atm consider that one happening right now!
protoform synthesis taking up a quarter of this list isnt surprising i did the math and you need over 10k of the motes just for all the mounts not counting any of the other stuff im surprised jaina elemental didnt make it since you cant solo her at current time

I am an owner of the following, #70 Ren's Stalwart Hound I'm pretty sure I have a few others but can't remember. I do have a few more rare mounts that I've not seen many have such as the Voidtallon, but it's not all that special. What is weird is the horrible luck of me getting mounts drop that I already have such as Invincible and flametallon. I'm not allowed to solo run ICC 25H anymore because of the number of times I've had to delete that horse.
I'm surprised Voidtalon, TLPD, Aeonaxx, the Dragon Soul mounts, emerald drake, Rhuv's mount and so on aren't on there, 'cos those I personally consider hard to get (so = rare in my mind haha), but yeah, great and informative video, thank you :D
God the camel. (Lil story if you are interested in reading) I remember I was new in this game, think it was late cata or early MoP, and I was still with my ex. He used to kind of shit on me for not having this and that mount, literally bully. And when one day I flew over a golden looking little statue, I clicked on it and said "Oh! I got a camel mount! Maybe you have this one?" (Honestly I didnt know much about mounts and stuff.) and he goes dead quiet for a little moment and says "no" so I, finally found an oppurtunity to give him a taste his own medicine, but that was not fun for him. He actually made me cry and call up blizz to ask them to delete the mount. Honestly his words and his actions were so cruel, that I am struggling today, but dont worry! I am slowly recovering! Luckly Blizzard didn't delete it, instead Blizzard used their time to comfort me, until I got in a better mood. That's when I fell in love with the game, their kindess made me stay forever. If he didnt force me to call them, I'd probably still be stuck with him today. Thanks blizzard, for helping me out from the abusive relationship instead of helping the camel out from my mount bag. 😂
I have the freaking mount from 12 place doing the campaign and it's somehow rarer than heavenly oynx lol. goes to prove how no one played shadowlands. Before the recent drop changes heavenly onyx was probably widely viewed as the rarest drop mount in game.
Many of the models that are displayed are so off from the real mounts, protoform syn. Mounts are very easy to create when unlocked and are way more detailed then shown in the video, all Mist of Pandaria mounts can be deleted out of the video since they were buyable in MOP Remix now adays

All the shadowlands mounts that are considered rare is bc everybody hates shadowlands and doesn’t want to mess with anything out there bc it’s such a long process and you can’t fly til you get from A to Zereth. I still haven’t unlocked flying out there I got the covenant mounts n left lol.

Same with the Talon's Vengeance hawkstrider. It's very easy to farm the rep if you do PvP, but the mount is very ugly and PvP players don't usually collect mounts, so not a lot of people have it
My rarest mount on this list was #10 with a handful of others throughout the list. I’m still salty that I got the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent recently yet I’m still farming Invincible every week Update: I now have the Thundering Cobalt Cloudserpent AND Invincible. Dreams do come true.
I like that they added the 500 honor mount in Legion and it was imposible to get in that expansion because of crazy amount of grind. Ppl had to find a way to bug out the pvp wq's and some of them got it before it was fixed. I think the "true" ones started poping in Shadowlands xDD
I didn't use the darkshore or world quest bugs and I got mine a couple of months after SL released, so you are spot on. It is just possible that pvp raid leaders who were really hardcore would have got it in BFA, playing on the level.
I didn't know my Ivory hawkstrider was so rare. That was such a fun one to earn at the end of legion.. camping out at Warden towers as a mythic geared frost mage, server hopping and surprising fellow horde players. Their rage whispers and cries of 'I'm reporting you for hacking ' still make me smile every time I mount up.
Obtaining the Spirehawk was one insane story... I'll spare you it.... However it blows my mind it was one of the most rare mounts in the game and communblizzism upped the drop rate to 5%+ from 0.02%.... Unreal... Got that bitch on my first kill tho at 0.02% XD
i'm only missing the blazing drake for the emerald drake achievement. god what i wouldn't give for a dragon soul skip. no surprise that most of these mounts are from shadowlands though. what a hopeless, unfun grind of an expansion.
How much did people hate Shadowlands? I know I did. But the fact that nobody got the Covenant mounts, the Korthia achievements, the Maw achievements or the Zerith Mortis activities- it shows you that might the single most disliked content era in WoW’s history
@@deedgeYT Yeah it was a heck of a grind that took months... and at content BEFORE flying was a thing you could do in Legion... because I wanted a modest-looking white hawkstrider for my priest RP. I still have moments where I reminisce running around Operation: Murloc Freedom or using that World Quest Group Finder addon groups to hop to PvP realms in the Falcosaur areas with full world buffs, Prydaz and the Feign Death hunter leggo for those tokens. It's almost sad how often I pull it out in a mount-off and have the one from Magister's terrace pulled out. Often several full seconds before they realize it's not the same mount.
If you’re querying the way I think you’re querying, by looking at straight population reports, your logic may be flawed in the sense that the data is not very useful or relevant. For example if people prefer one color of faction mount over others, your report makes it look “rarer” where ass all the faction mounts are equally easy to get. Then you mix in this popularity factor with actually difficult to get mounts and now the data becomes irrelevant.
I'm a proud owner of the Ivory Hawkstrider, probably the longest most difficult grind I have EVER done. Until I got the feather that allowed collecting rep in BGs I had to ask my friends to log in while they were busy just so they could AFK and I could farm them for rep lol. It literally took me years bc I'm not a PvPer.
Nah it's mainly because the mounts weren't as cool and it's a pretty recent expansion. No one played WoD either by comparison but those mounts are awesome so people actually want to farm them. Plus they have been out for a while so people have had plenty of time to get them, despite WoD's low player count at the time.
The title is very misleading. Giving the reasoning that not many people in the game have said mount, doesn't mean that it's a rare mount, it just means that nobody really cares about obtaining said mounts such as the protoform synthesis construction or purchased mounts which are not even drops. It was interesting to see where the population of WoW is in the progression of collected mounts.
I disagree - I think when you look at rare mounts the traditional understanding is something is rare if very few people have it. There are a lot of mounts that have a low drop chance (like invincible, ashes of alar, etc.) which are commonly thought of as rare, but they are actually quite common. Mounts like this are desirable and have just been farmed to death over the years which really tanks their rarity. Regardless though if I looked at rarity through a different lens, ie mounts with a low drop chance = rare, it would make comparisons incredibly difficult. There are a variety of rare mounts on this list that are acquired through other means like achievements, honor levels, etc, and the only way to gauge all of the mounts against each other in an objective way would be to do it based on how many people have collected them. For achievement mounts specifically there's no other way to rank them, the number of people who have the achievement is the same as the number of people who have the mount. I can't really gauge them on difficulty with certainty because something that's difficult in my opinion may be not as difficult from another pov. For example, it wouldn't make sense to to try and rank something like invincible (which has been collected by tons of people at this point) vs something like the honor level 500 mount (which has been earned by very few people relatively) based on how they were acquired. Would the low drop chance of invincible be ranked lower or higher than the honor level 500 mount in that case? Is a mount with a 0.5% drop chance that has been collected by 300k+ players more or less rare than a mount that has been earned by 7500 players via the honor system? See how that's an incredibly slipper slope and we're starting to get into more of a subjective territory? The only common ground these mounts have really is how many people have collected them - so I believe that that's the best objective stat to measure them by.
that's the case with quite a few mounts actually - even though they have low drop chances if they are really cool and have been out for a while they've just been farmed to oblivion

For sure - the frogs made my other top 100 rarest mounts list. Very few are willing to ball out for those frogs.

i farmed silent glider for two years, not a lottery winner just a degen guy (i got the mount last year)

Same with the camel which isn't just a drop from a rare in Feralas, first you have to find the statuettes (hard to find and not 100%) in Uldum

An the place is instanced too. So you cant reach there without the figurine.

Can you start as a DK to skip some lvls?
Not anymore. DKs start at 8 now, and get to 10 through their start zone, whereas Dark Irons start at 10 with no start zone, as all allied races do.

I'm talking like they dominated the top 30 or so, despite being extremely easy to acquire (a decent portion of those being way easier than the protoform synthesis for example). Even now some of the ottuks from the tuskarr in DF are owned by less players than some of the higher honor level pvp mounts. WoW was for sure down bad during SL but I think it's also worth noting that the data shows a strong correlation between time and rarity. In addition, a lot of the SL mounts weren't really that cool. Take WoD for example. It had a really low player count as well but the mounts looked awesome and they are quite desirable. As such (coupled with the fact that WoD has been out for a while), they aren't that rare.

I'm of the opinion that Nalak and Rukhmar are rarer mounts simply because they spawn mid-air and people give up when they cant get a tag and get annoyed. They really need spawns changed to just be on the ground or platform to allow more people to get tags on them before they just get nuked down by ranged attacks, and just less frustrating to camp/farm
Idk about Rukhmar but I can't stand farming Nalak because it dies so quickly. It's infuriating lol

I agree, although Nalak makes up for the short spawn timer. Blizz changed Sha of Anger to die after 2 seconds, so it doesn't die so quick, but that's ridiculously small time still. You need to target & shoot at the boss quick, so I've missed that a few times, as many others, even though Sha is on the ground. Like, why didn't they make it 5 seconds instead?? Back in the day these bosses were up for several seconds so lots of people had time to react

My Human Hunter stays on Zereth Mortis to farm for Protoform Synthesis. The problem with that system is it takes a lot to unlock, you also have to get the schematics and once you get them many require mats and the primary mat drops so little compared to how much you need for one mount. That's likely why so many of them are rare. I still only have four Protoform Synthesis mounts, including the one it basically gives you.
The MoP world boss mounts are sad to see on this list because they're so old and we all know how many people are farming them every week because they're crowding the boss area right along with us.
I actually own the Solar Spirehawk and Ivory Hawkstrider! The Solar Spirehawk I got way before the drop chance was increased, on the very first time I killed Rukhmar. The Ivory Hawkstrider took days of farming, and it is something I would not like to do again.

about 99% of this are undesirable mounts. Blizzard needs more ash of alar or black serpent dragon. people are still farming them because thee rare but also look awsome.
ashes of alar is just a legendary mount community wise, but yeah i only go after cool mounts, i don't care about prestige unless the mount looks sick.

2 Weeks old comment but, because of chromie time both mounts can be farmed in like 5 minutes. Not everyone is aware of that but still quite alot of player so its far from being rare nowdays
Very, very surprised that Desire's Battle Gargon is my rarest mount lol. I really like the gargons and that color scheme was my favorite so I made sure to get it. For anyone that is curious it's not hard to get. You invite the countess to the parties until you are best friend reputation with her, then invite her once more beyond that and if she ends the party in an elated mood the mount will be in her chest she leaves for you. I only was able to get one saddle for the protoform synthesis and that was from an olea cache and I need some schematics from the raid too. I made sure to get all the spiders and wasps since I genuinely like those mounts a lot. Don't even want to think about how much farming it will take to get all the protoform pets lol.
Lol as someone who farmed all but 1 protoform mount I can only imagine the pain of going for all the pets - nice job!
I would like to mention that the reason why this list is practically all BFA and Shadowlands is because that content is the most underplayed. Both expansions were strongly disliked by the community. This list shows it.

When hashing the data I noticed that most of the mounts from DF were incredibly rare. surprising how few players actually bothered to level a Dark Iron, i guess i gotta factor in that there are horde players that wont even bother playing an alliance race, and vice versa. being neutral i play any and all races.

protoform synthesis taking up a quarter of this list isnt surprising i did the math and you need over 10k of the motes just for all the mounts not counting any of the other stuff im surprised jaina elemental didnt make it since you cant solo her at current time

I'm pretty sure I have a few others but can't remember. I do have a few more rare mounts that I've not seen many have such as the Voidtallon, but it's not all that special. What is weird is the horrible luck of me getting mounts drop that I already have such as Invincible and flametallon. I'm not allowed to solo run ICC 25H anymore because of the number of times I've had to delete that horse.
Ren's is still a fantastic one to have very nice!
I'm surprised Voidtalon, TLPD, Aeonaxx, the Dragon Soul mounts, emerald drake, Rhuv's mount and so on aren't on there, 'cos those I personally consider hard to get (so = rare in my mind haha), but yeah, great and informative video, thank you :D

I remember I was new in this game, think it was late cata or early MoP, and I was still with my ex. He used to kind of shit on me for not having this and that mount, literally bully. And when one day I flew over a golden looking little statue, I clicked on it and said "Oh! I got a camel mount! Maybe you have this one?" (Honestly I didnt know much about mounts and stuff.) and he goes dead quiet for a little moment and says "no" so I, finally found an oppurtunity to give him a taste his own medicine, but that was not fun for him. He actually made me cry and call up blizz to ask them to delete the mount. Honestly his words and his actions were so cruel, that I am struggling today, but dont worry! I am slowly recovering!
Luckly Blizzard didn't delete it, instead Blizzard used their time to comfort me, until I got in a better mood. That's when I fell in love with the game, their kindess made me stay forever. If he didnt force me to call them, I'd probably still be stuck with him today. Thanks blizzard, for helping me out from the abusive relationship instead of helping the camel out from my mount bag. 😂

I have the freaking mount from 12 place doing the campaign and it's somehow rarer than heavenly oynx lol. goes to prove how no one played shadowlands. Before the recent drop changes heavenly onyx was probably widely viewed as the rarest drop mount in game.

Many of the models that are displayed are so off from the real mounts, protoform syn. Mounts are very easy to create when unlocked and are way more detailed then shown in the video, all Mist of Pandaria mounts can be deleted out of the video since they were buyable in MOP Remix now adays

Same with the Talon's Vengeance hawkstrider. It's very easy to farm the rep if you do PvP, but the mount is very ugly and PvP players don't usually collect mounts, so not a lot of people have it

My rarest mount on this list was #10 with a handful of others throughout the list. I’m still salty that I got the Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent recently yet I’m still farming Invincible every week
Update: I now have the Thundering Cobalt Cloudserpent AND Invincible. Dreams do come true.

I like that they added the 500 honor mount in Legion and it was imposible to get in that expansion because of crazy amount of grind. Ppl had to find a way to bug out the pvp wq's and some of them got it before it was fixed. I think the "true" ones started poping in Shadowlands xDD
I didn't use the darkshore or world quest bugs and I got mine a couple of months after SL released, so you are spot on. It is just possible that pvp raid leaders who were really hardcore would have got it in BFA, playing on the level.
I didn't know my Ivory hawkstrider was so rare. That was such a fun one to earn at the end of legion.. camping out at Warden towers as a mythic geared frost mage, server hopping and surprising fellow horde players.
Their rage whispers and cries of 'I'm reporting you for hacking ' still make me smile every time I mount up.

Obtaining the Spirehawk was one insane story... I'll spare you it.... However it blows my mind it was one of the most rare mounts in the game and communblizzism upped the drop rate to 5%+ from 0.02%.... Unreal... Got that bitch on my first kill tho at 0.02% XD

@@deedgeYT Yeah it was a heck of a grind that took months... and at content BEFORE flying was a thing you could do in Legion... because I wanted a modest-looking white hawkstrider for my priest RP.
I still have moments where I reminisce running around Operation: Murloc Freedom or using that World Quest Group Finder addon groups to hop to PvP realms in the Falcosaur areas with full world buffs, Prydaz and the Feign Death hunter leggo for those tokens.
It's almost sad how often I pull it out in a mount-off and have the one from Magister's terrace pulled out. Often several full seconds before they realize it's not the same mount.
If you’re querying the way I think you’re querying, by looking at straight population reports, your logic may be flawed in the sense that the data is not very useful or relevant. For example if people prefer one color of faction mount over others, your report makes it look “rarer” where ass all the faction mounts are equally easy to get. Then you mix in this popularity factor with actually difficult to get mounts and now the data becomes irrelevant.

I'm a proud owner of the Ivory Hawkstrider, probably the longest most difficult grind I have EVER done. Until I got the feather that allowed collecting rep in BGs I had to ask my friends to log in while they were busy just so they could AFK and I could farm them for rep lol. It literally took me years bc I'm not a PvPer.

So basically nobody played during BFA, and less than nobody played SL. Those that did wouldn't grind or spend gold for such unappealing mounts.
Nah it's mainly because the mounts weren't as cool and it's a pretty recent expansion. No one played WoD either by comparison but those mounts are awesome so people actually want to farm them. Plus they have been out for a while so people have had plenty of time to get them, despite WoD's low player count at the time.

The title is very misleading. Giving the reasoning that not many people in the game have said mount, doesn't mean that it's a rare mount, it just means that nobody really cares about obtaining said mounts such as the protoform synthesis construction or purchased mounts which are not even drops. It was interesting to see where the population of WoW is in the progression of collected mounts.
I disagree - I think when you look at rare mounts the traditional understanding is something is rare if very few people have it. There are a lot of mounts that have a low drop chance (like invincible, ashes of alar, etc.) which are commonly thought of as rare, but they are actually quite common. Mounts like this are desirable and have just been farmed to death over the years which really tanks their rarity. Regardless though if I looked at rarity through a different lens, ie mounts with a low drop chance = rare, it would make comparisons incredibly difficult. There are a variety of rare mounts on this list that are acquired through other means like achievements, honor levels, etc, and the only way to gauge all of the mounts against each other in an objective way would be to do it based on how many people have collected them. For achievement mounts specifically there's no other way to rank them, the number of people who have the achievement is the same as the number of people who have the mount. I can't really gauge them on difficulty with certainty because something that's difficult in my opinion may be not as difficult from another pov.
For example, it wouldn't make sense to to try and rank something like invincible (which has been collected by tons of people at this point) vs something like the honor level 500 mount (which has been earned by very few people relatively) based on how they were acquired. Would the low drop chance of invincible be ranked lower or higher than the honor level 500 mount in that case? Is a mount with a 0.5% drop chance that has been collected by 300k+ players more or less rare than a mount that has been earned by 7500 players via the honor system? See how that's an incredibly slipper slope and we're starting to get into more of a subjective territory? The only common ground these mounts have really is how many people have collected them - so I believe that that's the best objective stat to measure them by.

that's the case with quite a few mounts actually - even though they have low drop chances if they are really cool and have been out for a while they've just been farmed to oblivion
