But it's kind of ironic because a little over a month ago I was telling my girl that I would love it if y'all would put out a video Everyday. So I am as happy as I can be. I m in Connecticut just under an acre of land ; Never farmed ; Never owned a horse but find myself addicted to watching your videos and totally amazed at your discipline energy and life habits envious of your ways I guess living my dream vicariously throughout your videos but honestly even if by a financial miracle I was able to a acquire a farm I question myself if I could do it you are amazing as a kid my big brother took me to Vermont late 70s and travel in car I would see people walking up a long long hill with a bag of groceries and say where they going we haven’t passed a house for miles my brother would say Vermont folk are hard people.
Any how I find myself yelling at Jim let the horses drink more water , why work lady pregnant , answer Brenda will ya , give old Buck a day off , let Ken rest his leg , buy some new attachments , pet the horse , why you shoeing horse have the pro do it , etc etc and then watch Jim drive horses and how calm they are and listen to his commands never jittery or super spoked backing up like a lot teams at horse pulls I’ve seen and then this past video of William driving Bill and Ken separate hauling fire wood and William struggling a little then Jim steps in and you really see Jim’s effortless experience and bond with those animals like a work of art ! … I would plate the excavator also hope you never stop the videos thanks for allowing me to view a my dream daily without the work on my part . Wishing you the best of health as long as you can sit up and sip soup or eat apple pie it’s a great day . 😊

Life happens and you people deal with it in such a commonsense way. It's refreshing in today's world where you make do as best you can and work toward a goal. Not instant gratification. Thank you for showing and sharing that. It's how I grew up and still try and live that way.
You need to plate the outside of the bracket that broke off or it won't hold. I'm a Welder that has worked on equipment my whole life. Once something breaks it's never as strong unless you reinforce it. Just a suggestion 😊
Hi folks, been very wet here also. I had land ready to start working last week, then nothing but rain and still more forecasted. I can commiserate regarding bad news in batches. My horse truck quit on me a few weeks ago, and yesterday I laid to rest my best mare. Still have 4 good young four year olds and my old retired mare at 28, but she was the apple of my eye. Will never forget her. I did make a memorial video. Hope the repair work goes smoothly and things get running up to speed there.

Good video. Your breakdowns are similar to 3 appliances breaking down one after the other. Over the years I have noticed that things happen in 3's. 😊😊😊

Yep Jim been there before you know the old saying sometimes when it rains it pours , a friend of mine used to say Mama & Daddy told me I would go downs some rough roads in life but they forgot to tell me I would have to cut the right of way on some of them. Hope this gave you a smile I hope things get better.

During rain and snow, my favorite place to be was in the barn
We had a dozen riding horses when I was a kid and they all were in straight stalls 2 to a stall. No problems ever. After Dad sold the dairy cows and us kids were gone he cut back on the number of horses he converted the barn to 4 box stalls. He doubled the time to clean the barn and the amount of bedding needed.

Equipment failure and to much/not enough rain on a farm can be devastating for crops and profits.

Duke and earl will look so handsome in their new harnesses. Wondering if Brenda could talk more about growing herbs. I have a hard time getting basil to grow.
The way yous farm with the horses reminds me of my grandparents when they farmed with horses it is such a relaxing way to farm no computers
First off you deserve an apple pie Jim! So sorry everything is happening at once. Hopefully the sawmill motor can be fixed fast. The excavator looks like it's pretty old, and things wear out. "IF" I won the lottery I would surely buy you a brand new one! We happen to have a bad wheel bearing on our eighteen year old car. Let's just blame this on the eclipse for want of a better explanation...😉

Jim and Brenda, Looking forward to the Daily Videos. Your fortunate to be have talented people like Brian to repair the the High Hoe and the Kohler Dealer and warranty available and the wheel bearing on the skid steer is a replacement issue. Jim as you know i had Percheron Horses the size of Ken and they lived in straight stalls. Which worked fine . Good luck with all the the necessary repairs to your equipment.

Well now…I am very sorry for your troubles, I truly am BUT more videos is a very welcome bit of news. Breakdowns are frustrating, expensive and always at a very bad time but God always gets us through our struggles. I really have no pressing questions but I would love an updated tour of all the upgrades on the farm. I see new shutters and I know William has been working on cleaning up all the loose hay in your loft for repairs so just seeing the daily workings of those kinds of projects and for me it would be fun. Of course being a master gardener seeing Brenda in the garden and greenhouse would always interest me since I’m seeing ALOT of plant material in that “happy place of hers. I LOVE “a day in the life” videos and of course updates on all the working horses and the not working quite so hard animals would be fun. You know Jim and Brenda, I guess just about anything you are willing to share is of interest to me. Don’t forget that I’m also still looking forward to a little information on your hired hand and his Amish lifestyle that you mentioned with the buggy and meeting his horse flesh would be interesting. I buy a great deal of my produce that I don’t grow from the Amish here in Michigan so I know some things but not enough to satisfy my understanding of their culture. I know that there are rules about what the Amish will and won’t share so I understand if you aren’t able to provide any content concerning William. I’m also very interested when you share his wife’s quilting projects with us. If I had one question about your life it might be how you ended up in upstate New York farming and leaving behind your life in Vermont…I think you came from Vermont anyway. Finally…apple pie, coffee and a chat sounds like a good deal, how about it Brenda?!!!:):):)
PG here what an excellent montage of subjects. I loved seeing how Baron got up and down. He thought it through. What a smart/intelligient horse. I was recently in the hospital. Today the Sun broke out after 3 days of rain and I work this afternoon in the grren house. It is very healing for mind, body and spirit. I watched your video then my daughter came in my room to borrow something and she accidential knock over my brand new glass tumblier for water I drink. It crashed onto the fllor and broke. I told her about your video. 😊😊😀😀😄😄
Jim in your last video you were skidding firewood. Can you show us the hook you have with the handle on the single tree? I’d like to see how you parbuckle multiple logs as well. Thanks
The greenhouse the new harness' even Skips paint spot looks so good. I feel the pain when things break down. It does seem to pour when it rains. The part I dislike for myself is that the wheels move slowly in the fixing of it all. I wish you a speedy recovery in all of it.

I have been driving my horse for 26 years and I think it would be interesting to show us when you are sizing the harness for Duke and Earl to show us how you are doing that. And how it should fit.

Hello Brenda and Jim. I am an avid viewer of your channel and really enjoy being a part of your life on the farm. You asked for questions. I was wondering how the two of you met and where and when you met. Not trying to be personal but just a little about the two of you. We enjoy you both so much and it is so nice to see a happy together Christian couple sharing their lives on the farm. Brings back old memories for me as a kid being raised on a farm in central Missouri. Thanks for all you share and God bless you and you wonderful family.

What kind of care do you give to your harnesses to keep them in good working order? Love see all you do on your farm. Pie and coffee chat sounds wonderful!!!
A couple Videos ago you had a beekeeper come in and put Bees collection boxes in your trees I suggested that maybe William would be interested in making B boxes. The vertical ones and the horizontal ones are totally different. The horizontal ones are very expensive. They’re like $500 when you buy them at the store. But I think he could make them a lot better. If he had the blueprints for them it might be a way that he could make some extra money. Just a suggestion. I just got my Bee packages and put them in my vertical beehive boxes. They’re a whole lot cheaper than the horizon boxes. Maybe that beekeeper that put the boxes in your trees could show him. A lot of people like them because you don’t have hardly any lifting.

Have enjoyed your channel for at least three years now. Thank you!. Loved seeing (Bill I think) so carefully stepping over bunches of logs in your last video; can really see his wheels turning. Questions.... Okay. Would like to see how you buck up and split your firewood... Also would like to know what those huge stacks of lumber behind the sawmill are for... Have you ever filled the silos to the top? Also, you numbered the "marshmallows" 1 through 3, I think. Are they all clover/ alfalfa? Do you plant just enough for your horses and cattle, or do you regularly sell it? About how much acreage do you need to plant just to feed your animals? Do you have two skid steers and two excavators, because In think you leave them either at Paul Smiths or in your woods... yet you also have a set at home. How did you meet William? Okay that's all I've got... for now!

I would love for Jim to do a brief segment on how to fit a horse to a harness. We have 1/2 Arabian mare that we want to buy a harness and need to know what size. I know she is a lot smaller horse than you normally deal with but we haven't been able to find anyone to help in our area. My husband and I used to ride and breed Arabians but our health has caused us to stop riding. Our mare has been taught to ground drive and with some more work she should be able to pull a cart and/or small wagon. She is the last of our babies and would love your help to purchase the right size harness.
Brenda, I LOVE your greenhouse!! Wonderful construction and design, Jim!! It looks like it keeps the rain, wind, and snow out well too. You guys might have answered this but how many acres do you farm and how many head of cattle do you typically have? Many thanks!!
I would think the horse stalls are spot on plus they can use the halter rope to pull on to get up if need be

@m: We must be related as the paradoxical notion/superstition belief that adversity, misfortune etc. comes in 3's, is prevalent in our family as well .... lol!
Maybe build a lip on the concrete pad so the water doesn't run in as much. That new harness looks awesome, can't wait to see it on the horses. Skip is so cute and full of energy! Love the greenhouse and the plants, looks great. Shame about that new engine, don't make things like they used to. Since you spend so much time outside and in the woods is there anything specific you use for ticks or are they not much of a problem there? What kind of chickens/guineas do you have? My question is, Jim, how do you know how much weight in logs the various teams of horses can pull. I remember you saying at some stage that they can lose faith 8n themselves if pushed too hard. Usually when life gives you lemons you make lemon pie! Lol But since you got apple trees, you make apple pies! I worked for my brother on a farm. He left me about 2 to 3 days of work to harvest wheat! He was gone two weeks, it took me the whole 2 weeks to get it done. Breakdown after breakdown, I think the time he got back we almost had a new combine! Or as new as a 25 yr old combine could be! Lol Y'all stay safe

Would love a day in the life video, that chronicles/explains the sun up to sundown daily routine of what it takes to run the farm. From feeding the animals, grooming the horses, cleaning the stalls, taking care of the tackle, to bedding down the animals in the evening etc…Your videos give us glimpses of what you do, but I know it takes a tremendous amount of work and dedication to run a farm ! Also do you have goals for the farm and logging operations this year? Will you be doing any pulling competitions this year? Have any of the Paul Smith’s students interned or come to your farm to see how you operate your logging business? I absolutely love watching your videos…you and Brenda do a great job

Leo, the motor you got was off the edger, it won't work on the mill, the shaft turns opposite.
Question regarding the old dairy; where was the milking parlor?
How did you two meet? How old were you? I think Jim was always around horses, were you Brenda? Attitude is what matters when things break … being almost 67 I’ve noticed it does come in waves of sorts. Thanks for all your wonderful content.

I know from friends of mine who have draft horses that they are typically kept in straight stalls. Jim's stalls are plenty wide for his big horses to lay down and relax.
Here in the Texas Panhandle we would love that moisture. I know it's a problem for you guys trying yo get your crops up and going. Just shows how we all have stuff to deal with. Hopefully the engine oil leak will be an easy fix after removing it from the mill. I'm going to guess valve cover gaskets. Thanks for the video!

Hi Jim and Brenda- Oh yes, we have our share of break downs. Some of our equipment belonged to my father-in-law. That doesn't sound too serious until you hear that all three of us are in our 70s. We have been fortunate that folks are still in business who can help us with repairs. We log on our propery, but send out to the mills. I really like your saw mill operation and hope that motor gets repaired soon. About how many board feet do you average a year? All the best ~ Diane

I have a question unrelated to the horses. Curious-Skippy has pretty much full run of the farm and I see him getting super dirty a lot. I have a similar situation with my dog with a similar hair coat, only I have a little bit of farm dirt compared to your larger and more varied farm. So I keep thinking about this question . -How do you clean him up before he goes back inside?
I'd like to hear your thoughts about the different materials used in harness and lines. Nylon vs. Biothane vs. leather.

Jim trains horses… is he also a dog whisperer? Do you plan on showing any dog training clips also? How did you decide to buy the Schipperke breed and why? Has Skippy been all you hoped for? He worries me how close he gets to being trampled by large horses, but it must not be as close as it looks… and those cats too!
Good video, good variety🙌🏼 Dad kept his team side by side in the same standing stall. Often saw them laying down, can’t remember if I saw them laying down both at same time. Question: when you (Jim) was talking in the sawmill, I noticed holes in the roof. When it rains hard does it come in? It did on my tin roof! Had to use special tape to cover them. Thanking you in advance for answering. Good idea/ plan for letting us answer questions👌🏼🤠🇨🇦
so sorry to hear about your equipment breakage, iam sure youll be up and runnin soonsometimes thhese set backs can make us appriciate our lives more in other ways. dont think ive seen it but a video on your farms progress from maybe back to when you first bought and started it

I was actually going to ask if horses lay down to sleep but you showed that they do in fact lay down. I am amazed at what these horses can do. May I ask how old horses like these get?
Ok. You asked for it! Brenda I would love you to show us ( at harvest time) all the things you do with your garden yield. Like how you store your potatoes etc. what kind of salads you make for dinner. I see you have basil in the green house. Or it looked like it. I loved your ..' pie pastry in the pie-pan ' recipe. I want to know what your doing in there when your not brushing horses! 😊 I'm sure your busy. And here's another one. Where does Skippy sleep? When I had dogs they slept with me. But when I see Skippy gleefully tearing around in cow manure I have a feeling you have different arrangements for him.😂

To bad you didn't have a Honda dealer close..I have used them for all small engines for 15 years and never had downtime, and they start !
