Jim and Brenda, Thank You both for the wonderful episode Of "Working Horses With Jim " Duke and Earl are great looking matched team of Suffolk Punch Horses. For 3 coming 4 year old geldings they did really well for only their second time being hitched together. Jim your tutorial on driving semi= green young horses was excellent . Especially the proper use of the check strap to keep the horses head up so the draft works properly. In drawing the load forward.. I appreciate your statement " A Tired Horse(s) Stand Well ".Also your comment on it takes time and work to to teach and condition a young horse(s) to properly push a heavier load forward. You really need to focus on semi green horse(s) when your picking stones or other farm work . Congrats !!! on how well you were able to back Duke and Earl into loose house. As usual I apologize for the long winded comments. But I'm so pleased for You with the wonderful progress you've made with these wonderful horses.
Duke and Earl were such good boys today. At times they didn’t stand so well, but that all comes with time and practice. Overall, I think they did a great job!
They are beautiful together. And Ken and Bill have been great mentors. You can see them respond to your verbal commands. I really enjoy watching you work all the horses. And like the majority of your viewers I'm glad to see you happy with the colts progress. Thanks for sharing.
Well I see Skippy is still supervisor of all the work and leading the way. Duke and Earl are working well together. Your teaching them is showing when they work. Backing the barn must be hard thing to teach then and they did it well. Thank you Jim and Brenda for another great video. God bless and keep safe.
When I was watching you harness the boys up, that song from the 60s came to my mind..."Duke of Earl"!😂😄🤣 They did very good together. I was real impressed how well they backed the cart into the barn!!!! They look so pretty together!
Brenda I still remember from the video before this when Duke and Earl were with Lady and Bree in the fields ... will be coming for you next boys...and here they are and doing a fantastic job. Jim you are doing a great job with the young one's. They are going to be a great asset to your team. Skippy your supervisor will make Sure of it. I love that dog of yours. God bless you all and keep you safe 🙏 ❤️
Wow, what good boys. Earl stepped over the pole so nicely, and Duke spun in place perfectly. They are standing fairly patiently to be hooked up too, for being so young. They backed up to the stone boat very nicely. These horses are just freakishly good tempered and smart. I fear that people watching will start thinking this is normal progress for any colt, and expect too much of their own horses. I've only ever had one that was this easy. No, they aren't perfect when compared to mature working horses, but compared to most colts of their age they are. I'm not minimizing your training ability either, but these colts are amazing. Their backing the cart in was amazing too. They are both foal champing like Baron did when he was learning. It just shows stress and submission. They are trying their hardest, and they did very well.
Watching picking rocks reminds me of my ancestors farm (that 6 generations lived on beginning before the Civil War)… They had to clear acres and acres of land of trees, stumps and rocks on top of a plateaued hill. I can’t begin to imagine how the accomplished all of that with just horses. Several years ago, my father found a large Native stone club. An amazing find that is now in the County Historical Society in PA.
Philosophical morsel of the day, "A tired horse knows how to stand". Loved it. Thank you, Jim and Brenda for allowing us into your lives for a few minutes each day. Good job backing up both days boys.
Jim this is the video I've been waiting for thank you. Every video you show how great a woodsman and horseman you are. I think now that earl and duke have worked together they will have a better understanding of what's expected of them and will improve by leaps and bounds. Again I thank you.
Great job with the colts Anybody who has any experience with horses knows that this way of training makes very good horses And yes you have to be ready for anything You have a very solid minded team there I still say training has everything to do with a good horse Oh how is Miss Lady doing God bless and have a great day and weekend
Duke and Earl, no problem! They are still learning but they did very well in backing up! Thanks to Bill and Ken, they have done a good job being mentors for them!
excellent, they look great together,,they will be one super pair for you. it truly is amazing the way you choose to do this type of training.thanks for taking us all along.wieh we could be helpers..(Happy Birthday to you Brenda on the 29th..you sure stay in shape) have a good wkend
Duke & Earl sounds like a pop song I heard in my younger days. You can rent an attachment for the skid steer that will scoop stones, leave soil & haul them to the dump site. I know, I know, it's not working horses but you have limited years to "pick stones" and lots of stones. One day to get all the stones from the farm. Sell the stone boat?
I expect that - with all the training and work you do with your horses - there HAVE to be a few amusing stories you might want to share with us? And Duke and Earl did GREAT!!
Thank you only criticism is you went and spoiled us when you posted videos almost every day I MISS THEM BUT understand especially in the heat hard to do the necessary work PLUS FILM but thank you for what you do and your NEW TEAM LOOKS GREAT TO ME ❤❤❤
LOL If you find some Native American stuff don't tell anyone. I live in Canada we had a farmer digging ditches find some pottery arrowheads and shoes made of animal skin, It was pretty well preserved so he called a Museum to ask if they would like to come and have a look. Long story short the local natives came and said it was an old burial ground and took claim to about 10 acres.
Good morning Jim and Brenda I'm sorry that I'm falling behind in your videos I'm trying to catch up today as it's been busy on our farm I'm so glad to see the boys working together this morning it's always wonderful to see your younger boys working together you're always in our thoughts and our prayers
They did really well! Just a nice chatty video! I liked that! 🙂 They backed in great!! They are a good team! They sure are sweating!! I did enjoy this video!! 💕🙂
They are pretty calm actually when standing, even around skippy, what an impressive team they are at that age, I love Suffolk’s … they backed in the barn just beautifully … 🐴🐴
Duke and Earl are coming along nicely They Look So Good As A Matched Team And They Both Are Filling Out Nicely I Think There Going To Be A Top Team As They Work Together They Are Really Starting To Catch On Thanks For Sharing This With Us Blessings And Please Be Safe ✌️
Glad to hear you used your tractor for some of the heavy work, no shame in that. If you had not said anything most would not have noticed the tractor tracks. Can't wait to see how the corn does over the new tiled ground. Life is good.
Great JOB, Duke & Earl!!!!! You boys did an "AMAZING" Job!! Both of you have great teachers to help you learn your jobs!! God Bless Working Horses with Jim & Brenda!!
Jim at 31:44 the horse on your left (Duke?) seems to have a hoof that is not flat. It seems to be lower on the outside. It my be an optical illusion as the hoof-hair swings as he walks. I'm glad that the weather has improved for you. We have has a very wet Winter and Spring were in Western France, but the forecast for next week is dry, but lower temperatures than normal for late May. Thank you, Jim and Brenda for your videos, I look forward to each evening when they are viewable.
Thanks Jim and Brenda good video. The boys did pretty well. I like how you say it over and again to not trust the young stock. I think it gives them confidence to trust you the teamster.
What a joy it’s been watching the progress of Duke and Earl. I still remember the video when you first brought them to the farm. Wonder how many times Jim has put on and taken off the harnesses side he started being around horses.
I was thinking with all your Suffolk titled gentry, Earl Duke, Baron, and with Lady, if she has a filly Duchess might be a good name. My first Belgian mare was named Duchess, a great old mare. Then you could have Duke and Duchess as a team, and Earl and Baron or Baron and Bree as a team. I always liked to listen to the announcer at the pulls as a kid giving out the names when they started with the same letter of the alphabet.
I have always said "A tired green horse is a good horse", actually Cesar Milan said "A tired puppy is a good puppy". But it works with horses and Children, 😊😊 Maybe some people don't realize horses are not fully mature until 5 years of age, and to ask to much physically until they are mature can possibly cause damage sometimes irreparable. Such as racing 2 year olds and jumping 3 year olds and any futurity, futurities imply 2 year olds. My opinion, Jim and Brenda are awesome with there horses
Wow you've done a great job showing these 2 from the beginning. They look great thank you so much for this content. I keep saying someday, and I am getting closer. But am still a ways off from going for it on a team. By chance could you run through what your feeding them this time of year grain wise?
Questions 1) Hoping during putting harness on horses (or at Q&A session), you might explain how two and three side by side working horses have only two reins that come back to driver. A bit confusing for me. 2) when using horses in the snow, it seems snow does not build up like big snowballs under their hooves. When I was young and riding, that was a winter issue.
Your young Suffex did gr8. Good job Jim. So calm nd steady, you are. Hard to tell the Suffix apart.😢
Loved your videos. Thanx Brenda❤

.
Duke and Earl would sure look good together in their new harnesses.
What a gorgeous pair! I can’t keep straight who is who but as long as Jim can, that’s all that matters.
Yuuup, I also have a hard time telling them apart !! Excellent job on backing them into the barn - both times !!
Hey Jim, are Duke and Earl true blood brothers ?
Earl and Baron are full brothers. Duke had the same sire but a different Mom so he is their half brother.
Earl has a darker mane and weighs more than Duke; that's how I can tell! Duke has blond in his mane.
Duke and Earl were such good boys today. At times they didn’t stand so well, but that all comes with time and practice. Overall, I think they did a great job!
They look really good together Jim!

Duke and Earl says,,,'backing ain't no problem.'

Duke and Earl are looking great . Good video
Duke & Earl sure are a good looking team and they are coming along nicely.
Duke and Earl did very well on backing up the cart into the barn. No bobbles that I could see.
Thank you Jim and Brenda. You just made a difficult job look easy❤❤❤❤.

Duke and Earl backed the cart like champs, so impressive!

Definitely can be proud on how well they are progressing! Says a lot about Jim and his horses!
Duke and Earl are working great together, be safe and be well,
That was funny watching those two knuckleheads going through the door at the same time. They should be called Laurel and Hardy.
It’s amazing what you’ve achieved with suffolks so soon 👍
They did so well for their first time out. You’ve obviously put time and effort into their training!
Great job with the colts
Anybody who has any experience with horses knows that this way of training makes very good horses

Oh my they did great together. Those boys are learning. Great farm horses right now. So proud of them.
Nice matched pair. Sure made the sweat pop. And we are all waiting for Lady to fulfil the next pair of youngsters.
Greetings from Australia.
Just 3 years old! Amazing!

I love these videos so much!
I wish I had 10% of Skippy energy!😊
Amazing to see Baron next to Duke and Earl when hitching them up.
He is filling out so well.Big thick neck.
Little puffs of dust from the teams footfalls / Haven't seen that in a while !
Good day Duke and Earl .😊
They are a nice team. Like twins.🥰
Very nice. Hello to All, keeping busy in Wisconsin. Thank you . 😊
Duke and Earl Rock
A wonderful sight to see the new teamwork in progress!
I've been waiting for this .
I expect that - with all the training and work you do with your horses - there HAVE to be a few amusing stories you might want to share with us? And Duke and Earl did GREAT!!
The quality of work these 2 young one can do, only goes to show what a great horseman you are Jim.
Thank you only criticism is you went and spoiled us when you posted videos almost every day I MISS THEM BUT understand especially in the heat hard to do the necessary work PLUS FILM but thank you for what you do and your NEW TEAM LOOKS GREAT TO ME

Most people don't understand that just the starting and stopping is huge. The team has a good start will be able to pull well in the future.

Beautiful horses, Earl and Duke.
Sounds like the song, " The Duke of Earl". Was that intended...😊
What a joy it’s been watching the progress of Duke and Earl. I still remember the video when you first brought them to the farm. Wonder how many times Jim has put on and taken off the harnesses side he started being around horses.

They are a couple of good ones! Well done.
Love your tie stalls and watering system Jim . Lady will foal on June 3rd . 😊😊😊
Very Nice Job for Green Colts to gather, Have a Wonderful day.
They sure are a beautiful team!!!
They're going to be just fine
Great video ! Master horseman at work ! Suffolks appear to be very easy going, great horses.

Nice equines....
Those stones would go great on the ponds banks
Job well done!
Nice team
